This week's episode of Federal Prison Authority Presents: Around the Block, Bruce and Susan open the episode by answering questions sent in from Facebook. One of the big topics they go over is the sentencing process of inmates and how it may change in the future. While Bruce and Susan acknowledge some of the flaws in the system, they do point to the silver lining of things moving in the right direction and officials being aware of their shortcomings. The next big topic explored is the concept of early release vs hardship release, and Susan explains what they mean and their differences. This week is very informative and answers a lot of listeners' questions. Please feel free to send questions to Bruce and Susan. (The Center Square) – The Washington family of a man murdered by two teenagers in 2004 are speaking out against their potential early release by the state Intermediate Sentence Review Board, while a state House bill proposed this session could allow convicted killers to be released even earlier. In 2004, 14 year-old Jordan Castillo and 16 year-old Robert Suarez stabbed Bob Mars to death outside of Ki-Be Middle School, where he worked as a sixth-grade teacher, as part of a gang initiation. They were later found guilty of first-degree murder, with Suarez sentenced to 26 years and eight months, while Castillo was sentenced to 29 years and nine months.
Dante Wright's story reads like a movie script, but every twist is real. Removed from his home at a young age and raised by various relatives until the age of 15, Dante faced instability, heartbreak, and the kind of challenges that derail even the strongest spirits. But against all odds, a chance encounter with a local judge rescued him from a group home and led him to courtrooms and justice. Now a practicing attorney, Dante shares his remarkable journey - what kept him going, the mentors who showed up when he needed them most, and the grit it took to survive foster care and graduate from law school. We also dive into how his experiences shape the way he practices law today, and what he wants to change about the system he beat. This is an episode about survival, success, and rewriting the narrative.Want to be a guest on Stories from Real Life? Former Prisons Minister Ann Widdecombe reacts to Labour's sweeping sentencing reforms — including early release for serious offenders after serving just one-third of their sentence, and controversial proposals for the chemical castration of sex offenders. In a fiery exchange, Widdecombe slams the government's plan as a response to prison overcrowding rather than a genuine effort to reduce crime or protect victims — and questions the legal and ethical implications of mandatory treatment.
