An independent Australian podcast chronicling the diverse range of fertility stories, as told by those experiencing the treatment.
Two IVF warriors, Yaelle and Lucy, have come together to share their IVF Tales! Yaelle talks about seeking specialist advice, once ready to conceive due to both her and her husband being 40, and being told they would have a 7% chance of conceiving naturally. After this, they both had tests done and took the option of TTC for 3 months- they fell pregnant, which unfortunately ended in miscarriage. After seeking further advice, they decided to see a bulk billing fertility specialist and commenced IVF. Yaelle talks about multiple frozen embryo transfers before seeking a second opinion from another fertility specialist. This led to a different approach to treatment and revealing she had a thin lining. Lucy talks about TTC after being on contraception (to help with period pain) and realizing her cycles were irregular. Her and her husband tried to conceive for 12 months before seeing a GP for some further testing, soon after their IVF journey began. Lucy talks about her first IVF cycle and receiving disappointing results, having a laparoscopy and being diagnosed with Endometriosis and Adenomyosis. Lucy also decided to change fertility specialists. Her second IVF cycle led to some very surprising results! Thank you, Lucy and Yaelle, for sharing your stories.

Alana shares with me her infertility story, which is the inspiration behind her beautiful childrens book called The Magic Baby Lab. Alanas journey began after trying naturally for almost a year with no success. Further investigations were undertaken and her husband was found to have low sperm count. They decided the best chance of success was IVF/ICSI, and that's how two magical babies were created. In todays episode, I sit down and chat with Em from @not.another.bad.egg. Her story so far is an interesting one! Her patience and resilience will pay off as her story continues. The part that got my jaw dropping to the floor was that she didn't respond to the popular IVF drug Orgalutran... absolutely devastating! Ems story still continues, you can follow along on @not.another.bad.egg and also read more stories on infertility and pregnancy loss shared by other women around Australia. Be part of the movement! We are starting conversations and reducing the stigma around infertility! Thanks Em! Wish you all the best and I look forward to your updates.
Taleeha retells her IVF tale. After trying to fall pregnant naturally for a year with no success, they sought help from a specialist, where she was diagnosed with PCOS. Taleeha experienced irregular periods and found it hard to track her ovulation. The first recommendation was to try OI which they did for many months with no success. It was time to see a fertility specialist, and further investigations were undertaken, which still gave no other reason for infertility. IVF was the next step. Taleehas story is a perfect example of 'it only takes one' as they fell pregnant on their first IVF cycle.
Jade talks to me all the way from the other side of the world. Many LOL and WTF moments in this one! Jade hilariously retells her IVF journey and the inspiration behind her memoir The good news is... you don't have Endometriosis. Seeking help from multiple specialists, Jade had success with IVF and now has a beautiful 2 month old girl. Oh and she does actually have Endometriosis (another example of how important it is to advocate for yourself) You can purchase her book on Amazon and Kindle.
Todays episode Maraea talks about her infertility journey. Being diagnosed with PCOS at a young age, she knew she would likely need help to fall pregnant. Maraea would sometimes go over a year without a period, so it was almost impossible to track her cycle. Seeking advice from a fertility specialist the first step was to do a Laparoscopy/Hysteroscopy, however before organising to do this she fell pregnant naturally. Maraea goes into depth about her miscarriages, clomid cycles and failed transfers. She also sought a 2nd option from another fertility specialist who ordered even more testing. Maraeas journey still continues. It was an absolute pleasure talking to Maraea, after ending the recording we spoke for another 30 minutes or so, it was another episode on its own! Wishing you all the best Maraea.
Bib shares her incredible story going through IVF and personal loss (losing both her mother and sister in law during their TTC journey). After trying to conceive on their own with no success, they did 6 rounds of Clomid and unfortunately experienced an early miscarriage. Their next step was IVF (seeking help from an IVF clinic in Brisbane, a 5 hour drive from where they lived in rural NSW). Bib shares with me the multiple stimulated cycles, failed transfers, early miscarriages, ectopic pregnancy, and laparoscopies (most of it through the Covid pandemic and navigating border restrictions) Bibs story still continues, as she is currently waiting to do another embryo transfer (with two embryos this time). Wishing you all the best Bib! Thank you for sharing your story. If you would like to share your story, please fill out the survey monkey questionnaire. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Z9HHD9S
In todays episode I talk to Anna about her infertility journey. Anna was diagnosed with PCOS after realizing her cycles were irregular. She didn't respond well to the fertility drugs to help her ovulate, so the next step was IVF. Anna lived in rural QLD and had to travel 2000km to Brisbane to seek fertility treatment. She goes into depth about her miscarriages, including a hospital stay that wasn't well managed by the staff. Anna went through a few IVF stimulated cycles and many transfers, she changed fertility specialists a few times as she felt like there was more to investigate. She is a big believer in advocating for yourself and asking questions. She had two laparoscopies with two different specialists, finding mild endometriosis. In her last stimulated cycle, she had her embryos PGS and was on an immune protocol for a DQ alpha gene match. At the time of recording, Anna was 28 weeks pregnant. In todays episode I chat with Emma. Her IVF journey started after her husband was diagnosed with cancer. As they were very keen to start a family, before starting chemotherapy, they had some sperm frozen. Emma went to a lot of appointments and procedures on her own. She was very private with her IVF journey, and no one knew they had begun treatment until the very end. Emma had a very supportive fertility specialist at a bulk billing IVF clinic. She went through a few stimulated cycles and transfers and now has a beautiful 5 month old boy! Her husband Adam is in remission and they are enjoying being a family of 3! In this first episode of season 2, Simone tells her own tale of infertility with the help of her husband Stuart. The journey began after 12 months of trying to conceive naturally and Stuart deciding to get his sperm tested. They found out Stuart has low sperm count and for them to conceive naturally would have a 1 in a million chance and the best option was IVF with ICSI. After 1 stimulated cycle and 3 failed transfers, Simone had a Laparoscopy. The surgery found mild endometriosis, adhesions and high natural killer cells. They did another stimulated cycle and a had a few more failed transfers (on an immune protocol) before discovering the DQ alpha gene partial match. They completed LMIT in Melbourne and went through another stimulated cycle (doing PGS this time) and a few more transfers. Using their first PGS embryo and on a tailored immune protocol, Simone fell pregnant. A year after their daughter was born they decided it was time to extend their family. The same treatment plan was used to conceive their son (who is now 5 months old). Liked this episode? Please leave a review! This episode was recorded a little differently, as an instagram live! We sat with Donna the founder of The Conceiving Mind, and asked her how to survive the Christmas season while going through fertility treatment. The questions came in from you, our listeners, as we know how hard it can be to get through this ‘festive’ period while being in limbo with your treatment. Donna started The Conceiving Mind after going through fertility treatment herself and noticing a gap in treatment- emotional support. She developed an evidence based online program that guides people going through the three types of fertility treatment in 10 modules. Currently, Donna has partnered with a large IVF clinic in Brisbane to bring her program to their patients. A massive congratulations to Donna and Eve for prioritising patients mental and emotional well being during treatment.More information can be found at: https://www.theconceivingmind.com/https://evehealth.com.au/Make sure to hit subscribe, so when episodes are released they download straight away.If you are interested in sharing your story, please click on the link to be taken to our questionnaire: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Z9HHD9SThanks for supporting us!
This weeks episode brings you Beths IVF journey. Beth describes volunteering to be an egg donor for some friends and finding out she is a carrier for Tay Sachs gene, and how this led to her down the road of IVF. Candidly, she discusses going through a bulk billing clinic, multiple rounds of IVF and early miscarriage. Beth had to actively advocate for herself, armed with information she requested extensive testing on her husbands sperm and her own body, despite her doctor not recommending the treatment. Eventually, she sought a second opinion with a private clinic, had a laparoscopy and was diagnosed with stage 3 Endometriosis and a blocked fallopian tube. We chat quite a bit about miscarriage and the ideas around sharing pregnancies in the first trimester in order to receive support.Since the interview, Beth has undergone her 5th round of IVF, although this time ICSI was the preferred method. They got 14 eggs, 8 mature and all 8 fertilised! Beth was able to transfer two beautiful blastocysts, however, there were none to freeze. She had an implant bleed at 6dp5dt and a strong positive home test the next day, but then 2 days later the home tests got lighter and it was confirmed that sadly Beth was losing her two babes to early miscarriage. Currently, she is engaging with treatment with a private specialist and is potentially looking into egg donation.Make sure to hit subscribe, so when episodes are released they download straight away.If you are interested in sharing your story, please click on the link to be taken to our questionnaire: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Z9HHD9SThanks for supporting us!

So far 8 babies have been born from her donations! Ashley is so passionate about egg donation, and discusses the relationship between egg donation and the recipients. She also clears up any of the questions you had for her.A note below about some information in the episode with regards to the Donor Central Registry. Ashley states in the episode that the child must request the information but not the parents, which isn’t correct (at least for NSW). The parent can request the information if the child is under 18. There is also the option of the parents reaching out to the clinic prior to see if the donor is open to being contacted earlier if it is a clinic recruited donation in Australia.
