Getting pregnant again after a C-section comes with unique physical, emotional, and hormonal considerations that many women are never told about. In this episode, we break down what to know about fertility after cesarean birth, scar tissue healing, adhesions, secondary infertility, VBAC considerations, pelvic floor recovery, and the emotional impact a C-section can leave on the body.We discuss how scar tissue and C-section healing may affect implantation, why some women experience difficulty conceiving after a cesarean, and the importance of supporting your core, pelvic floor, nervous system, and microbiome before trying for another baby. We also dive into placenta previa and accreta risks, uterine rupture statistics, spacing pregnancies after C-section, and how trauma can remain stored in the body long after birth.Whether you're preparing to conceive after a cesarean, considering a VBAC, healing from birth trauma, or simply wanting to better understand your body after a C-section, this episode offers both practical guidance and compassionate support.00:00 Trailer & Intro01:43 How C-Sections Can Affect Future Fertility03:52 Scar Tissue & Adhesions Explained05:25 Placenta Previa & Accreta Risks After Cesarean10:25 Antibiotics, Microbiome & Secondary Infertility11:41 Birth Trauma & Nervous System Healing15:25 Body Image, Desire & Emotional Recovery18:54 How Long Should You Wait Before Another Pregnancy?22:46 Pregnancy Spacing, Core Strength & Recovery24:29 Signs Your Scar May Need More Support26:15 Pelvic Floor Therapy & Core Healing29:19 Scar Massage, Gua Sha & Red Light Therapy32:18 Supplements & Nutrients for Scar Healing36:35 Preparing for a VBAC After C-Section38:38 Multiple C-Sections & Birth Decisions43:05 VBAC Statistics & Uterine Rupture Risks49:15 Why Birth Decisions Aren't One-Size-Fits-All50:25 Preconception Support After a C-Section51:30 Encouragement for Your Next Pregnancy JourneyResources From This Episode:Get $10 off Evvy Vaginal Test here!Bloom MethodThrive Physical Therapy (Dr. Lauren Mallari Snyder in San Diego)Restore PT - Sarah Grahm (local in Boise)Treasure Valley Pelvic Health Other Related Episodes:All About VBAC Part 1 EpisodeAll About VBAC Part 2 EpisodeVaginal Bugs and the Essential Role They Play Episode The Secret Fertility Factor No One Talks About EpisodeHome Birth Turned C-Section: Dr. Leah's Birth Story EpisodeDr Leah's Second Birth Story EpisodeDetoxing Before Pregnancy: What Actually Matters (And What Doesn't) EpisodeWhen Sex Hurts: The Root Cause No One Talks About EpisodePreconception: What It Is and Why It Matters EpisodeComing Off Birth Control: What Your Body Needs Before Pregnancy EpisodeBreastfeeding While Trying To Conceive EpisodeHealthy As A Mother Podcast | YouTubeHealthy As A Mother Podcast | InstagramHealthy As A Mother Podcast | TikTokHealthy As A Mother Podcast | Merch StoreFind more from Dr. Leah:Dr. Leah Gordon | InstagramDr. Leah Gordon | WebsiteWomanhood Wellness | WebsiteFind more from Dr. Morgan:Dr. Morgan MacDermott | InstagramDr. Morgan MacDermott | WebsiteUse code HEALTHYMOTHER and save 10% at EarthleyUse code HEALTHYMOTHER and save 15% at RedmondFor 20% off your first order at Needed, use code HEALTHYMOTHERSave $260 at Lumebox, use code HEALTHYASAMOTHERUse code HAAM and save 10% at Fond
She was only 25 and already knew something was wrong. If you have one child and are secretly struggling to have another, this episode is for you. Margarita's story of secondary infertility and PCOS shows what happens when “just keep trying” isn't good enough. In this episode of Building Your Family, Lisa Schuman sits down with Margarita Lainez to talk about the often overlooked reality of secondary infertility and PCOS. After having her first child with ease, Margarita assumed a second would come naturally. Instead, she faced month after month of negative tests, dismissive “just keep trying” advice, and the heavy guilt of not giving her son a sibling. Margarita shares what it was like to live this while working inside the fertility world, how she finally pushed for a real workup and received a PCOS diagnosis, and the grief, shame, and loneliness that came with that season. Together, Lisa and Margarita explore self‑advocacy, setting boundaries, protecting your mental health, and finding the right support when friends, family, or even doctors don't fully understand. If you're in the middle of your own fertility journey, especially secondary infertility, this conversation will help you feel less alone and more equipped to ask for what you need. Inside this episode: What secondary infertility can feel like day‑to‑day Being told “just keep trying” when you know something is wrong Getting to a PCOS diagnosis and what self‑advocacy really looked like Shame, blame, and the pressure to “give a sibling” Setting boundaries, finding community, and caring for your mental health What grounded, realistic hope can look like after grief If you're in secondary infertility or on a donor conception path and want help with the emotional and decision‑making side, that's exactly what we do inside Building Your Family.
One year in. And what a year it has been.In this episode I am joined by Katie Rollings, founder of Fertility Action, to mark the charity's first birthday. We talk about everything from the support groups that have quietly changed people's lives, to the campaign work happening at the highest levels of government, to what Katie believes the next big push needs to be: a national fertility strategy. This is a conversation full of hope. There is still so much to do, but the momentum is real, the people are extraordinary, and the case for change has never been stronger. What we discuss in this episode:What Fertility Action has achieved in its first year and the stories that have kept Katie goingHow the support groups actually work and why showing up with your camera off is completely fineThe Trying to Conceive group, the Positive Test and Beyond group, the Secondary Infertility group and what each one has becomeThe in-person walk-and-talk meetups in London and ManchesterThe woman who found her best friend through a Fertility Action support groupWhy the Life After Treatment group has been harder to grow and what Fertility Action is learning from thatThe South Asian support group and why in-person connection is what that community really needsThe new NICE guidelines and the change that barely made the headlines: up to six cycles in selected patientsWhy campaigning at ICB level has not worked and why Fertility Action is now pushing for central commissioningHow fertility treatment compares across Europe and why the UK is falling behindWhy fertility still sits awkwardly between the Women's Health Strategy and the Men's Health Strategy and gets properly covered in neitherWhy Katie believes the UK urgently needs its own national fertility strategyThe education project Fertility Action has launched with colleges and the National Education UnionThe moment a 17-year-old student challenged them in a college debate and what happened nextThe Three Peaks Challenge: why Katie chose it, who is doing it and how to donateFertility Action's birthday celebrations and what the next two years look likeHow to get involved as a volunteerAbout Katie Rollings and Fertility ActionKatie Rollings is the founder of Fertility Action, the UK's newest fertility charity, now celebrating its first birthday. A branded mini series in partnership with Wild Nutrition, celebrating the launch of The Fertility Disconnect report.Secondary infertility does not get the airtime it deserves. And yet, according to The Fertility Disconnect report, 79% of people say they want more children than they currently have. For those with one child, that figure rises to 88%.In this final episode of the Wild Nutrition mini series, Gail and I go deep on one of the most underserved conversations in the fertility space. Gail shares her own ongoing experience of secondary infertility, including her adenomyosis diagnosis, the emotional weight of wanting to grow her family while already being a parent, and why the medical system often leaves people with one child to fend for themselves. This is also a conversation about recovery. About what pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and parenthood actually do to the body nutritionally, and why so many of us enter a second conception journey already depleted without realising it. Secondary infertility is where I find myself too, and it is a topic I have been asked to talk about more. I am so glad we finally did. What we discuss in this episode:What secondary infertility actually is and why it gets so little attentionGail's own experience: breastfeeding, cycles returning, a new adenomyosis diagnosis and the emotional complexity of wanting a second childWhy having one child often means you fall outside the criteria for NHS fertility supportThe injustice of not qualifying for IVF if your partner already has a child from a previous relationshipKey stats from The Fertility Disconnect: 79% of respondents want more children than they have; 88% among those with one childWhy people delay growing their family and how biological timelines do not always align with life circumstancesWhat pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding do to nutrient stores and why recovery is so often skippedThe specific tests and checks Gail recommends for anyone struggling to conceive a second timeWhy thyroid health and iron are the two most common deficiencies she sees in postpartum womenThe increased likelihood of endometriosis, fibroids and adenomyosis diagnoses after childbirthHow to start preparing your body again: the foundations of a recovery and preconception planWhy blood sugar balance, three solid meals a day and sleep are not optionalThe relationship strain that comes with secondary infertility and why therapy can be a real part of the toolkitHow to navigate the language around having one child and find the words that work for youFertility in the workplace: what support is increasingly available and why it mattersWhat Gail would want anyone feeling alone in this to hearKey stats from The Fertility Disconnect report79% of respondents said they want more children than they currently have88% of those with one child said they want more26% cited career progression as a reason for delaying growing their family25% pointed to housing constraints and affordability as barriersLinks mentioned in this episodeThe Fertility Disconnect report by Wild Nutrition:Download the full report at wildnutrition.com/fertilitypodcastFree fertility consultation with Wild Nutrition:Book your free one-to-one with a nutritional therapist at wildnutrition.com/fertilitypodcastExclusive listener offer:50% off Wild Nutrition supplements for 3 monthsA free personal consultation with an expert nutritional therapistVisit wildnutrition.com/fertilitypodcast to get started. Send us Fan MailMany patients assume that if they have gotten pregnant naturally before, IVF should be simple. But IVF and natural conception are not the same process. In this episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, Dr. Mark Amols explains why IVF is incredibly powerful, but still cannot perfectly duplicate every hidden filter, timing system, and biological checkpoint that happens inside the body. From sperm selection and fertilization to fallopian tube transport, embryo transfer timing, uterine receptivity, egg recruitment, and embryo grading, IVF can reveal parts of reproduction that nature usually keeps hidden. This episode explores why someone may have children naturally but still struggle with fertilization, embryo development, or implantation during IVF. It also explains why a failed IVF cycle does not mean failure — it may provide valuable clues that help guide the next step.IVF is not worse than nature. Nature is not better than IVF. They are different routes toward the same goal. And sometimes in fertility, the route matters. Thanks for tuning in to another episode of 'Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday' with Dr. Mark Amols. What does it feel like to reach the end of your fertility journey , not with the family you imagined, but with the one you have? In this episode, host Natalie Silverman sits down with patient advocate, writer, and blogger Seetal Savla for an honest, moving conversation about secondary infertility, the decision to stop treatment, and the complicated emotions that don't simply disappear after a hard-won pregnancy.Seetal spent six years trying to conceive, went through five rounds of unsuccessful IVF (including one with a donor), experienced multiple losses, and eventually conceived her daughter naturally. Now living in Berlin, she and her husband have made the deeply personal decision not to pursue further treatment , and she speaks candidly about what that letting go actually looks and feels like. This is also a conversation for those of you who are still on the journey. Because the feelings Seetal describes , the sting of pregnancy announcements, the guilt, the grief for the family you thought you'd have , are feelings many of you will recognise wherever you are right now.Trigger warning: This episode includes discussion of pregnancy loss, pregnancy after loss, and the emotional impact of making the decision to stop fertility treatment. What we discuss in this episode:Secondary infertility and what it means when there's no clear diagnosisThe decision to stop treatment , and the grief and relief that can come with itHow to navigate the sting of pregnancy announcements, even as a parentAllowing yourself to feel the 'negative' emotions: sadness, jealousy, resentmentSeetal's two-part answer to the question: 'Do you want another baby?'Donating remaining embryos , and the complicated emotions around thatThe language we use: why 'only child' and 'one and done' don't always fitHow to handle intrusive questions, especially within South Asian communitiesForewarnng friends and family about pregnancy announcements , what actually helpsWhen fertility friendships shift or break downSeetal's in-person support group for South Asian women in BerlinThe power of lived experience communities , and why you don't have to speak to belongSeetal's 13-part Ferring video diary series documenting her final cycle through to motherhoodAbout Seetal SavlaSeetal is a patient advocate, writer, and blogger who supports the South Asian fertility community both in the UK and internationally. Plus, how anti-inflammatory diets and specific supplements can be beneficial and the impact of microplastics and certain fragrances on hormones. Dr. Natalie Crawford, board-certified OB-GYN and REI, answers your fertility questions. I've been trying to conceive for a year for our third child. We're both 35, live a very health-focused lifestyle, and I've done five rounds of letrozole without success along with extensive testing. What should the next step in evaluation or treatment look like? When using letrozole, does it make a meaningful difference if it's taken on cycle days 3–7 versus 5–9, especially depending on whether you ovulate regularly? I have high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, and am about 50 pounds overweight, with two miscarriages in the past year. How do metabolic factors like these actually impact fertility and miscarriage risk, and what should be addressed first? I've been on birth control since my teens and currently have a hormonal IUD. When Magan and her husband weren't conceiving easily like they did with their first, she did everything in her power to see change. She worked with a chiropractor, tried Whole30, used supplements, and met with her local OB. One year later, nothing had changed. She wanted answers quick, but when she read about NaProTechnology and a restorative approach to reproductive health issues, she decided to give it a try. From there, she learned more about herself than she ever thought she would and found a new motivation and peace that she didn't think possible. She was pretty pleased with the outcome, too. I know you'll enjoy hearing the honest story of Magan's journey with secondary infertility.NOTE: This episode is appropriate for most audiences, but does include discussion of intercourse.SHOW NOTES:Ep. 102: Client Story - Rebecca (Secondary Infertility)Ep. 10: Endometriosis 101Ep. 11: Ikea's Story – EndometriosisSend a textSupport the showOther great ways to connect with Woven Natural Fertility Care: Learn the Creighton Model System with us! Infertility doesn't just affect your body—it can quietly strain your marriage in ways no one prepares you for.In this solo episode, Jacqueline talks openly about how infertility, IVF, pregnancy loss, and long fertility journeys can impact a relationship—not just during treatment, but long after you've successfully grown your family. She talks about the emotional survival mode couples often slip into, why communication can break down, how grief and coping styles differ between partners, and why those patterns don't automatically disappear once a baby arrives. If anything, they can be harder to address when you're busy raising a family and expected to “just be grateful.”Jacqueline also shares why she believes therapy should be part of the fertility process—not because something is wrong, but because infertility is traumatic and relationships deserve support. If you've ever felt disconnected from your partner during or after infertility, this episode is for you.In This Episode, We Cover:Why there should be a “warning label” on fertility treatmentsHow infertility quietly rewires a marriageWhen love starts to feel like logistics and survivalDifferent coping styles and emotional labor between partnersWhy therapy can be a powerful support during fertility treatmentHow infertility impacts relationships after pregnancy or completing your familyLingering trauma, grief, and coping mechanisms that don't just disappearA gentle journaling prompt to help you reflect and reconnect✨ Join my email list Be the first to hear about upcoming events, resources, and community offerings: https://motherhoodintended.kit.com/✨ Connect with me on Instagram Daily reminders, honest posts, and behind-the-scenes moments: https://www.instagram.com/motherhood_intended/✨ Apply to be a guest on the podcast Have a story or perspective you feel called to share? Sisters in Loss Podcast: Miscarriage, Pregnancy Loss, & Infertility Stories
Have you heard of the term blighted ovum? A blighted ovum happens when a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall, but the embryo does not develop. Cells develop to form the pregnancy sac, but not the embryo itself. A blighted ovum occurs within the first trimester, often before a woman knows she is pregnant. Today's guest experienced a blighted ovum on her secondary infertility journey. Angelica Gunn had her miracle daughter after experiencing preeclampsia and a NICU stay, she was ready to grow her family. After months of trying with no diagnosis she found out she was pregnant at her 7 week appointment there was no heartbeat. Angelica waited until 12 weeks for an ultrasound to find out she had a blighted ovum a sac without an embryo. She then experienced two more difficult miscarriages before getting pregnant with her rainbow baby. In this episode Angelica takes us on her secondary infertility journey, her 3 miscarriages, and her rainbow pregnancy journey. This episode is for you to listen to if you have experienced a blighted ovum, secondary infertility or a miscarriage and how sharing your story will help others. Sisters in Loss Podcast: Miscarriage, Pregnancy Loss, & Infertility Stories
October is Pregnancy, Infant and Child Loss Awareness Month. All month long we will honor our babies gone to heaven far too soon. Have you heard of recurrent pregnancy loss? Recurrent Pregnancy Loss is defined by two or more failed pregnancies and is considered distinct from infertility. When the cause is unknown, each pregnancy loss merits careful review to determine whether specific evaluation may be appropriate, and after two or more losses, a thorough evaluation is warranted. Today's guest experienced 5 miscarriages after having her baby girl, one being an ectopic pregnancy where she lost her fallopian tube, and then was diagnosed with secondary infertility. Anesha Stanley's first pregnancy ended with a miscarriage in 2014. Three months later she found out she was pregnant with her rainbow baby girl, Sinai. She waited two years before trying to conceive again. In 2017 we began experiencing recurrent pregnancy losses. Miscarriage #2 on January 14, 2017. An ectopic pregnancy #3, November 1, 2017 was treated with methotrexate. Anesha went onto experience two more losses and was diagnosed with secondary infertility and tubal failure. In this episode, Anesha takes us back to what it was like experiencing the highs of finding out she was pregnant and the lows and pain of miscarriage. She shares how she felt after being diagnosed with secondary infertility and tubal failure, and how and why she started her non profit Keys of Hope Foundation and became a Sisters in Loss Birth & Bereavement Doula. On today's episode of The Wholesome Fertility Podcast, I'm joined by Brooke Harmer (@thewellnourishedmama_), the founder of The Well Nourished Mama, a nutritionist and postpartum health expert who supports women through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Brooke's journey began as a food blogger helping college students eat well on a budget, but after becoming a mother herself, she shifted her focus to helping women heal nutritionally after birth and prepare their bodies for future pregnancies. In this conversation, we explore how pregnancy, birth, and postpartum dramatically shift a woman's biochemistry, gut microbiome, and hormonal balance, and why many women facing secondary infertility are actually experiencing a deep nutritional depletion. Brooke shares the foundational habits and healing foods that help rebuild nutrient stores and support fertility, whether it's your first or third time trying to conceive. From bone broth and Brazil nuts to the power of minerals and full-fat dairy, this episode is packed with essential advice for replenishing the body and preparing for a thriving pregnancy.

Madeline Fry Schultz, the Contributors Editor at the Washington Examiner talks about the myth of “family planning” and the realities of secondary infertility.
Welcome to What I Wish I Knew After Pregnancy Loss. In this raw and deeply moving episode, I'm joined by teacher, children's writer, and IVF warrior Jodie Fitzsimmons, who shares her unexpected five-year journey through secondary infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, IVF, and the eventual arrival of her rainbow baby at age 41. After a smooth first pregnancy, Jodie never anticipated the emotional terrain that followed when trying for a second child. Through years of failed cycles, grief, physical exhaustion, and emotional breakdowns—paired with the pressure of being an “older mum”—she found solace in writing and connection. Her words have now become a lighthouse for others navigating similar terrain. This episode is a heartfelt invitation into the unspoken spaces of motherhood, womanhood, and identity after loss. We also reflect on the importance of recognising the silent suffering of partners, the underestimated emotional toll of IVF, and the healing that comes through storytelling and community. In This Episode, We Explore: What secondary infertility can look and feel like The emotional toll of IVF and recurrent pregnancy loss Navigating pregnancy after loss with fear and resilience The impact of infertility on relationships and mental health Why writing and storytelling can be a powerful healing tool The unspoken grief of male partners in fertility journeys Finding community, validation, and voice through vulnerability
Secondary infertility affects so many of my patients. In today's podcast episode, I'm talking about what happens when someone has no trouble getting pregnant for baby number one and then struggles to conceive another child. People in this situation often don't know what to do because this is so new to them. I'm sharing everything you need to know about secondary infertility: the causes, treatments, and some of my tips. The truth is, secondary infertility is overwhelming and upsetting. You want to make sure that you have people around that support you, so I also encourage you to share this episode with your family and friends, so they know how to support you going through something that can be soul-crushing. Send us a textGetting pregnant isn't always simple. And for 1 in 6 women, infertility is part of the story — and it's messy, isolating, expensive, and absolutely life-changing.In this first episode of our April Infertility Series, I sat down with three BADASS women — Gwenna, Cassi, and Megan — who know this journey all too well. Gwenna spent 12 years trying it all — 8 rounds of IVF and endless shots to no avail. But in the end, two incredible surrogates helped bring her two boys into the world. Cassi never expected to struggle after having her first son naturally. But four and a half years of trying, and many miscarriages later, she found herself in a world of acupuncture, functional medicine, and asking questions nobody could seem to answer. And Megan — mama to 7-year-old Miracle Maren — opens up about miscarrying alone at home, failed IVF, and the ache of wanting a sibling for her daughter. This episode is raw. It's emotional. It's full of heart, and hard-earned wisdom from women who've lived it.Infertility isn't the whole story — but it sure as hell shapes you. Make sure to share this episode with someone who could benefit from hearing these stories. This community is here to support you no matter if you are in the thick of it or experienced infertility years ago. Stay tuned for the next episode dropping Wednesday, April 16th at 8am with Jess, Jessie and Allie. And until next time...Keep Moving, baby.

(Trigger warning: secondary infertility, miscarriage)1:8 couples will experience secondary infertility. Allie Karagozian, Occupational Therapist, momma, and founder of @holdingboth, always knew she wanted to be a mom. After using fertility treatments to conceive her first child, she was overjoyed to become a mother. When she and her husband were ready for a second child, they were met with secondary infertility troubles. From that hardship, @holdingboth was created with the mentality that it is okay to be thankful to have a child, but still grieve not being able to have another. Allie wants to bring more awareness to secondary infertility and through her business she provides support and a safe landing place for those families walking through it. Allie wants you to know that it's important to take care of your mental health during the journey of secondary infertility. She highly recommends that you and your partner seek therapy through any outlet you feel comfortable with, whether that's through your insurance, BetterHelp, or support groups like the ones Allie hosts. And if you're a friend of someone going through infertility, it can be hard to know what to say and ask. Allie gives us a great insight as to what thoughtful questions to ask to show you care without causing overwhelm. And if you are going through a pregnancy loss, we want you to know it's okay to ask for help. Ask a friend or family to take your other children for the day so you can rest. And please give yourself some grace during this time. We understand this is a sensitive topic, and if listening to this episode is too much right now, we understand, and encourage you to tune back when the timing is right.
