The first six interviews were recorded in locations ranging from the Alaqua Podcast Studio in Florida to the remote wilderness of Oregon's South Steen Mountains, to Zurich, Switzerland. Guests include Monty Roberts (Author of The Man Who Listens to Horses), Buck Wilde and Esther Gossweiler (documentarians focusing on Alaskan sea wolves and grizzly bears), Sonya Spaziani (Founder of Mustang Wild), Marty Irby (Animal Wellness Action lobbyist in Washington, D.C.), Emma Clifford (Animal Balance Founder and Director), Odessa Gunn (Animal Wellness Center, Northern California Director) and Ellie Phipps Price (American Wild Horse Campaign President).
Wildlife filmmakers Buck Wilde and Esther Gossweiler return to update Alaqua Animal Refuge Founder and "Difference Makers" Host Laurie Hood about the first documentary ever made about rarely seen Alaskan Sea Wolves, "Dark Wild Howling." The duo shares how Esther patiently gained the trust of an alpha male wolf she named Mosquito, who eventually introduced her to his pups. The film sheds light on the 20,000-year-old question of how wolves became domesticated. Esther is a civilian "Difference Maker" having turned her photography hobby and love of travel into helping people understand and protect wolves. Their film is expected to be completed by the fall of 2023, pending additional funding and donations.** LEARN MORE **Our combined work depends upon your donations and support to keep pushing forward and making real changes in animals' lives. Peter Knights is one of the biggest names in wildlife conservation and advocacy. As founder and president of WildAid, he may be the most influential "difference maker" of our time. In Part One of Laurie Hood's two part interview, Peter describes how he began his life's work as a wildlife trafficking investigator and ultimately founded WildAid, the global leader in the concept of demand reduction—which vigorously combats the illegal wildlife trade, a multi-billion-dollar global industry largely driven by consumer demand. Peter has attracted A-list celebrities—including Danai Gurira, Yao Ming, High Royal Highness Prince William, Lupita Nyong'o, David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jackie Chan, Sir Richard Branson, and Maggie Q—and raised millions of dollars of free advertising to lower the demand for animal products by asking worldwide audiences to embrace the message: "When the buying stops, the killing can too."** LEARN MORE **Our combined work depends upon your donations and support to keep pushing forward and making real change in animals' lives. When doctors told Temple Grandin's mother she had little choice but to institutionalize her severely autistic daughter, her Mom ignored the experts. The pivotal move helped Temple find her way to become an unlikely hero to America's cattle industry and a true American icon. In Part Three of our four part interview, Temple sits down with Laurie and talks about her path to understanding the vital role of visual thinkers and the beauty of bringing together different types of minds. ** LEARN MORE **We encourage you to learn more about the "differences" our guests are bringing to the foreground for animals of all kinds. In the 1970s, Temple Grandin, an autistic female working in an entirely male dominated world of livestock handling, single handedly improved the cattle industry with her brilliant mind, thinking, and perseverance. In fact today, major corporations will not use vendors who do not meet her standards, and half the cattle in the country are raised in facilities that she's designed. Part Two of Laurie's recent four part interview with Temple is both intriguing and eye-opening.** LEARN MORE **We encourage you to learn more about the "differences" our guests are bringing to the foreground for animals of all kinds.Links:LAURIE HOODS DIFFERENCE MAKERSTEMPLE GRANDIN LAURIE HOOD & ALAQUAABOUT LAURIE HOOD'S DIFFERENCE MAKERSOur podcast series celebrates the work of animal advocates from around the globe who have dedicated their lives to animal protection and safety. Monty Roberts is a real-life horse whisperer – an American original whose gentle Join-Up training method reveals the depth of communication possible between human and animal. He's sold six million books, is friends with the Queen of England, and is idolized by generations of horse lovers. That's all because Monty can take a wild, high-strung horse who has never been handled and persuade that horse to accept a saddle, and rider in thirty minutes. His powers seem like magic, but his amazing “horse sense” is based on a lifetime of non-violent training experience. Monty's exceptional insight into nonverbal communication applies to human relationships as well. He's shown the world the benefit of creating trust-based partnerships in horse-human and human-human relationships.Host Laurie Hood recently spoke to Monty at his ranch in Solvang, California. Here are a few excerpts; reflections from one of the World's most passionate and important animal rights protector. For more information about Laurie Hood and Alaqua Animal Refuge visit: https://alaqua.org/For more information about Monty Roberts visit: https://montyroberts.com

Host Laurie Hood, founder and president of Alaqua Animal Refuge, compares techniques with Buck Wilde and Esther Gossweiler relating to her work rescuing potentially dangerous, often abused animals and their work going nose-to-nose with Brown Bears and Alaskan Sea Wolves in remote Alaska while filming a documentary. The tasks are different but their mental approach and body language awareness techniques are surprisingly similar. Lots of great advice and good stories, starting with a recording of Buck and his camera crew being charged by a 900 pound bear while working with David Attenborough. Buck was recorded in State College, PA. Esther was in Zurich, Switzerland. Laurie was at her new state-of-the art refuge in Freeport, Florida.
