The only sitting U.S. president to ever be arrested was Ulysses S. Grant, who was busted THREE TIMES for the same crime: speeding. The first was 9th April, 1886, when he tore through Washington, D.C. in a horse-drawn buggy. General Grant scoffed at the idea of getting arrested and simply rode off: the 1860s version of flipping the bird. Grant's love for fast horses wasn't just a reckless hobby—it was part of his identity. Even at West Point, he was known more for his exceptional riding skills than his military prowess, and his ability to charge fearlessly into battle on horseback had made him an unstoppable force in the Civil War, leading the Union Army to victory. But back in peacetime D.C., his speed-demon tendencies weren't quite as heroic. The streets were packed with pedestrians, and reckless buggies had already caused serious injuries, so law enforcement was cracking down. Just three months later, he was caught speeding again. This time, he played it cool, paid the fine, and didn't cause a scene. But the real kicker came in 1872, when Grant—now a sitting U.S. president—was arrested yet again. This time, the officer in question was William West, a Black Civil War veteran turned policeman. The encounter was almost poetic: a president known for fighting for African American rights being held accountable by a Black officer who had once fought for the Union. I greet you in Jesus' precious Name. It is Monday morning the 19th of June 2023, and this is your friend Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start with Psalm 37:11:But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.Then we go to Matthew 5:5 Jesus says:Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.Meekness does not mean weakness, not at all! In fact, the meekest man who ever lived, according to the Bible, was Moses and there was nothing weak about Moses. He took a whole nation through the desert for forty years - no weak man could have ever done that! The Lord wants you and I to be meek. Meekness is not a natural quality of man but rather something that needs to be grown by spending much time in the presence of the Lord. I would like to use the analogy of a spirited horse which is under saddle. It is a beautiful sight to see. You see, a wild horse that has been tamed to accept a saddle and a harness, a bridle is a picture of the bible's concept of meekness. Monty Roberts, The Horse Whisperer, has got an amazing ability to gentle a horse - he doesn't break horses' spirits, he gentles them. He can get a wild horse to come into meekness in an hour. He can put a saddle on a horse that is never been ridden before. He did it in front of Queen Elizabeth and her mother and the old lady, because both of them loved horses very much, he brought that old lady literally to tears because she saw how that horse, a thoroughbred, was tamed, gentled into meekness, in an hour and had a jockey on its back. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to gentle us. Do you see in the scripture which I quoted, Psalm 37:11, that the Bible tells us those who are meek delight themselves in the abundance of peace? A meek person is a peaceful person. If you want the Lord to gentle you as it were, to become meek, you have to submit yourself to the Holy Spirit just like a horse submits himself to his rider. The horse is not broken, it is in complete control. When the rider tells him to run, he runs immediately but he learns submission and meekness is what is required in these days.Jesus bless you and have a lovely day.

Julia Williamson started riding horses at the age of four. No one in her family has any background in horse or ranching. She grew up in a typical suburban neighborhood. Horses have always been part of her life. She never stopped learning about and from them. She eventually turned her passion into a profession at the age of 18. A lot of her work is focused around “problem horses” and rehabilitation. Throughout the years of being exposed to the main problems she sees going on between horses and humans, she has learned that compassionate horsemanship is what gets the long-term results, change, and connections that people are looking for and longing for. Heart-to-heart connection is an understanding of how the horse communicates and what the horse tries to tell us, and why. She believes that by learning what to look for and how to correctly interpret the signs, we can prevent further problems in the future and generally raise the level of education and awareness in the equestrian community. Julia has the purpose and passion for spreading the wisdom of horses and for sharing the joyful moments they bring to her life. She has over 163,000 followers on Instagram in a very short time, and the videos that she posts are mesmerizing.

EP276: This week's guest is Lindsay de Swart, a Shamanic Coach, Energy Medicine Practitioner, Life Coach, Hypnotherapist, and Horse Whisperer, who has worked with women for 17 years to help them rekindle their 'inner spark' and gain courage to live their next chapter fully. Lindsay recently relocated from Canada back to England where she is from. She's a mom to 3 teenagers, loves outdoor adventures, and loves coaching women and horses,  helping them to heal themselves and each other! Lindsay and I talked about: How her Shamanic coaching practice unfolded so serendipitously. How her horse Penny came into her life and taught her what she needed to know to become a Horse Whisperer. How she uses horses to get information about what's going on with her clients. Our shared love of horses and the tv show (that my husband and I are now watching) that inspired her to become a Horse Whisperer. Lindsay got into personal development as a way to break generations of depression in her family. What she learned in the process is that she didn't have to be a victim of depression or other mental health issues and that she could live differently. So during 2020, at age 50, she dove into a whole new chapter of growth and deepened her training with energy medicine studies and Shamanic coaching.
