'Millions of us have shared food with Tina Fey over the years. In 30 Rock, which she wrote and starred in, even her name, Liz Lemon, was food related. In SNL there was Brownie husband and who could forget the cafeteria scene in Mean Girls.Tina came to the River Cafe a few weeks ago and after she put on her Chef's Whites to make tomato pasta in the kitchen, we sat down together to discuss the food she grew up with, the restaurants she goes to, what her family likes to eat, and a ‘very special' and very funny, sandwich.' For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On Ruthie's Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks.  Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe's open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. On the sixth of January, over 250 million Indonesians held their breath, when their national team walked onto the pitch for the semifinal of the AFF championship in a game between Indonesia versus Vietnam. This was a massive game for Indonesia. The players lined up for the national anthem. Ten of them were born and raised in Indonesia, however one stood out: a player from Europe, who somehow became an adored international player for Indonesia. This is the story of the man who is often called the David Beckham of Southeast Asia. Marc Klok was born and raised in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He played as a midfielder in Bulgaria and Scotland, before making a surprise move to the Indonesian league back in 2017. Just a few short years ago a bunch of elite athletes started wearing silicone wristbands with shiny bits of holographic plastic on them (yes, like on a Pokemon card). Why? They claimed the shiny plastic bangles made them faster & stronger & even helped improve their sense of balance. How did they work? Nobody seemed to know… but that didn't seem to matter. Millions of people around the world were willing to buy a Power Balance Band to see what it could do to enhance their own performance. David Beckham and Shaquille O'Neill were on board, and the rest of the world didn't want to miss out.  Our guest Josh Garlepp serves us the gist of how the Power Balance Band craze kicked off, how it peaked, and of course how it crashed when people realised that silicone bracelets with holographic insets don't actually *do* anything much.  Skip straight to the story: approx 10:50 Josh Garlepp shares the story with Jacob Follow Josh on Instagram and TikTok @joshgarlepp Listen to Josh's podcast 'Full Credit' on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/5eokwhUFJuZphyaspSOZdL We recommend the India prank call episode https://open.spotify.com/episode/1QG8AB7bZ1v9lkI37GlCOq  And the Thorpie's Angels episode https://open.spotify.com/episode/10jLMr0zdxeS80K3zJfoM6  We give you just the gist, but if you want more, there's this: Watch the Power Balance Band test video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gIMxjr3n5U Watch Shaquille O'Neal endorse the Power Balance Band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcLt16Otmmc  Watch the Today Tonight story about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF7gvhj6140&t=1s  Follow us on Insta: @justthegistpodcast Send us your suGISTions for stories and guests: justthegistpodcast@gmail.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Imagine for a moment, you are Martha Stewart. It is 1992 and you are the most important woman in the world of food. You say your best quality is your curiosity. So, maybe it was that curiosity which made you drive 25 minutes  to a small restaurant in a warehouse on the Thames, which had opened just a few years before, run by two women whose only experience was cooking for their families.  In this special live episode of the podcast, Ruthie sits with Martha in front of a live audience celebrating the launch of The River Cafe Look Book in New York - talking about books, and about each other. A year ago, I used every bit of access and influence to get tickets to Cabaret for one reason only - to see Eddie Redmayne the star of the show. And last week, conquering my enormous fear of being afraid, I watched him in the Good Nurse and was unnerved how beautifully he made a mass murderer not only empathetic, but almost loveable. All of us in The River Café know Eddie as an enthusiastic eater. On this episode we discuss his life through food but not before we put him to work in the kitchen, fulfilling his life's dream and making pizzas with our chef, Jessica Filbey. Welcome to Out Of The Spotlight. This episode was really tough to record but we really hope it did our amazing friend, Grant Wahl, justice. Grant Wahl was an American journalist who paved the way for soccer in America. Many people also know him as the journalist who discovered a 17 year old Lebron James and put him on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Grant's love and passion for the beautiful game was unstoppable and contagious. If it involved soccer... Grant was there. He treated each player with kindness and was a truth seeker. His goal was to introduce soccer to everyone while bringing communities together. He also fought for equality in the women's game and in life. Grant and Stephanie met back in 2010. Stephanie's best friend and former pro soccer player/reporter, Temryss Lane, was with her that evening and they all quickly became best friends. At that time, there weren't many female soccer reporters. But Grant was always willing to include Steph and Temryss in every conversation, in every event. So we figured that Temryss would be the perfect guest this week to chat all things Grant and futbol with Steph.Grant was supposed to be a guest on Out Of The Spotlight next month, so it's super hard to be writing about him in this manner. As a past tense. However, we find some comfort in knowing that he passed away doing what he loved the most - covering a WORLD CUP. His 8th to be exact. Grant's legacy will live on forever. The impact he has made will never be replicated. He is the definition of kindness. And the true definition of courage. If anyone ever asks what a journalist should be... just look up Grant Wahl. Grant's love for soccer, his many stories, and the people he brought together will live on forever. We're sending all of our love to his wife, Dr. Celine Gounder, his brother Eric Wahl, his entire family, and the soccer community he loved so much.We love you Grant Wahl. THANK YOU.

Ruthie's Table 4 returns for Season 2!For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Dame Judi Dench, Wolfgang Puck and Gwyneth Paltrow, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks.    Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe's open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.   For more information, recipes, and ingredients, go to https://shoptherivercafe.co.uk/   Web: https://rivercafe.co.uk/ Instagram: www.instagram.com/therivercafelondon/ Facebook: https://en-gb.facebook.com/therivercafelondon/   For more podcasts from iHeartRadio, visit the iheartradio app, apple podcasts, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows.   Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

See below for details. 1995 was the year of the Nineties, according to author and journalist Dylan Jones. It was peak Britpop (Oasis vs Blur), peak YBA (Tracey Emin's tent), peak New Lad (Nick Hornby published High Fidelity, James Brown launched Loaded magazine, and pubs were finally allowed to stay open on a Sunday). It was the year Radiohead brought out The Bends, Danny Boyle started filming Trainspotting, Alex Garland wrote The Beach, and Tony Blair changed Clause IV after a controversial vote at the Labour Party Conference. Jones reflects on it all in his new book, Faster Than a Cannonball: 1995 and All That, which features interviews with the key players from the decade, including Noel and Liam Gallagher, Tracey Emin, Goldie, David Beckham and Alastair Campbell. PJ has once again gotten the train down to Cork to see Kevin as the lads agree that the vibes are always immaculate when they're recording in person together but one thing they're not happy about is the fact that the sweet trolley hasn't yet made a return to Iarnród Éireann. PJ was Christmas decoration shopping at the weekend and is feeling all kinds of festive and the lads discuss chaotic gifts they asked Santa for in the past. They then turn their attention to embarrassing moments prompted by a mortifying encounter Kevin had in London with a tote-bearing girl he presumed to be a fan of the pod. They talk about the fact that they don't really get too embarrassed themselves and that it's more-so the little things that send them spiralling. But one thing they both agree on is the fact that David Beckham should definitely be mortified for himself. They then read some listener submissions of embarrassing stories.
