Radrizzani reflects on the Bielsa era, the club's identity as the sole footballing focus of a proud Northern city, and the burden of expectation rooted in the 2004 Champions League semi-final side (then the sixth-biggest club in world football on £90m revenue). Brownlee, a lifelong Leeds fan, adds the fan's perspective — pride and connection to the city matter as much as trophies.Turnaround clubs vs. trophy assets. Radrizzani's core investment lens: the difference between a turnaround play like Leeds (high appreciation, but one relegation can wipe out value) and buying a top club, now the preserve of sovereign wealth funds and private equity. First, a few numbers. This year Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta will spend more than $700 billion building AI infrastructure. There are 1,500 data centers in development across the country. AI-linked stocks make up at least 40% of the S&P 500. These are the kinds of numbers that make some economists jumpy. If this whole AI thing doesn't pan out, they warn, we're headed for the mother of all crashes. But Azeem Azhar is not one of those economists. He and his team recently spent months turning the AI economy inside out, and they just released a report called The State of the AI Economy. It contains surprising answers to what has become an increasingly pressing question: is this the biggest bubble ever blown, or are we building the durable machinery of a radically more abundant world? Tim Vickery goes further back to uncover the forgotten matches that helped create one of international football's fiercest rivalries. The story begins with Britain's enormous influence on the development of football in Argentina and the surprisingly warm relationship between the two countries. In 1951, Argentina became the first team from outside the British Isles to face England at Wembley. Despite losing late, Argentina returned home celebrating a defeat with honour. But by 1964, everything had changed. Argentina had adopted a tougher and more defensively disciplined style. Their victory over England in Rio profoundly influenced Alf Ramsey and his ideas about what England would need to win the 1966 World Cup. Tim explains how that forgotten encounter planted the seeds for England's eventual World Cup triumph and the controversial quarter-final between the countries two years later.
