In this weeks podcast, I dive in to the myth that tough times toughen kids up! If you say to a child who's struggling, you just need to man up a bit. You just need to get through it. They may well appear, just to get through it. But what they're actually doing is burying those feelings and burying those emotions. And what that does is that it teaches them, that their emotions, feelings and experiences aren't valid. Your saying to them, you might have all these emotions, but you need to bury them and that's saying to a child, those feelings and those emotions just aren't valid. And this can be really, really damaging for children. Again, it might look like on the surface they're fine, and they're getting through it. What's happening inside is really different...

In this episode, I talk to Jennie Guay. A friend and the author of Howie Blend: Playdate Adventures with Family and Friends. If you are a single parent, in a same-sex relationship, or part of any other form of blended family then this episode is perfect for you! In this episode, we will be looking at some of the most common mistakes that parents make when children are facing challenges. Everyone goes through challenges, so It's not about trying to prevent them from ever happening. It's about gaining as much as we can and learning from these challenges. So when our children face them it's not just about survival, it's about learning how to grow from the experience. As parents, we should be coaching kids rather than jumping to their rescue. This teaches them resilience and how to resolve things for themselves. This prepares and equips them for similar situations that may arise in the future.
