Girlfriend, if you're tired of the never-ending cycle of body checking, comparing yourself to everyone around you, and feeling trapped in a body you don't recognize, this episode is for you. Host Lindsey Nichol breaks down the 4 categories of body image according to the National Eating Disorder Collaboration and walks you through practical exercises to challenge the negative body ideals that are keeping you stuck. In This Episode, You'll Discover: The 4 Categories of Body Image: Perceptual - The way you SEE your body Affective - The way you FEEL about your body (shape, weight, emotions) Cognitive - The way you THINK about your body Behavioral - How you REACT and engage based on the first three Plus, You'll Learn: How to identify where your "body ideal" came from (and why it might not be real) The truth about social media comparison and "comparisonitis" Why achieving your ideal body still won't make you feel "enough" How conditioning from a young age programmed false beliefs about your body The difference between focusing on being skinny vs. focusing on strength and health Practical ways to shift from body dissatisfaction to body appreciation Key Takeaways: ✨ You are NOT your body - Your body is a vessel, not your identity ✨ Body ideals are conditioned, not truth - Society programmed you to believe skinny is good and fat is bad ✨ Your true beauty is who you are WITHOUT restrictive behaviors ✨ Choice is your superpower - You can choose appreciation right now, today ✨ You can change the way you see, feel, and think about your body - And that changes everything Powerful Exercises to Try Today: 1. The Body Ideal Inventory Write out every detail of your "perfect body." Then ask yourself: Where did this image come from? Is there a specific person (celebrity, friend, family member) that comes to mind? Has social media contributed to this ideal? Would I care about this if I lived alone on an island with no one to compare myself to? 2. The Appreciation Practice Today, look at someone in your life without judging or comparing their body to yours. Find ONE thing you can admire or appreciate about their body. Then reflect on what this reveals about your own body ideals. 3. The Mirror Challenge Look at yourself face-to-face in the mirror and say OUT LOUD: "I am willing to do the hard things. I am willing to make changes in my life. I may not be seeing what is real and true because of false distortion, but I can choose right now to appreciate, respect, and care for me regardless." 4. The Reframe Exercise Choose one body part you criticize. Now reframe it - what can you appreciate about this part? Just like you appreciated something about someone else, extend that same grace to yourself. 5. The Shift from Skinny to Strong Instead of idolizing being skinny, focus on STRENGTH. Instead of weighing less, focus on HEALTH. What would change in your life if you made this shift? Questions to Journal On: What would my ideal body be if I had no one to compare myself to? Would I be restricting food if I lived on an island alone? At what point in my life did someone make me feel "less than" about my body? What if this belief I've held for so long isn't even true - just a programmed distortion? What do I want to be KNOWN for beyond my appearance? Who am I outside of my body? What can I appreciate about myself RIGHT NOW? Powerful Quotes from This Episode: "You are not your body. Your body is a vessel." "Comparisonitis is real and it's poison to your being" "Your true beauty is who you are without restrictive behaviors" "You can be 80 pounds or 400 pounds and you're still YOU" "What if this belief in your heart that you've been believing for so long is not even true?" "Do you not know that your body is a temple? You were bought at a price. Honor your body to honor your creator." - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Who This Episode Is For: This episode is for you if you're: Tired of the never-ending cycle of disordered eating Sick of restricting some days and eating other days Done with the shame game and feeling "not good enough" Exhausted from hating your body while simultaneously punishing it Ready to stop comparing your body to everyone around you Wanting to feel happy, confident, and empowered in your skin Wondering if body acceptance is even possible after years of struggle Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - "Do you not know that your body is a temple? We've all been there. You're scrolling Instagram, checking out someone else's shiny new program, their sold-out launch, or their glossy website, and suddenly, what you've built feels… small. Messy. Not enough. That's comparisonitis. And here's the truth: it's a game you'll never let yourself win. Because every time you get close to what once felt “enough,” your brain moves the goalposts. In this episode of ReWild Your Business, I'm breaking down why comparisonitis is such a creativity killer, how it's the theif of courage. Mimicking someone else's highlight reel will always water down your own brilliance. More importantly, I'll share how to flip the script, shifting from comparison into connection, so you can reclaim your energy, originality, and confidence. If you've been caught in the trap of measuring your work against someone else's yardstick, this one's for you. ✨ Here are the three journaling prompts I share in this episode to help you step out of the comparison trap: Where in my business am I measuring myself against someone else's definition of success? If I stopped comparing myself to others, what would I create differently today? What would my business look and feel like if I only played by my own rules? And don't forget, my upcoming workshop All of You: The Unapologetic Art of Showing Up Unedited is happening on September 30th. If this episode resonated, you'll love diving deeper with me there. I want to take a moment to acknowledge all the incredible mums out there. Whether it's Mother's Day or just another busy day, the role you play in your family's life is nothing short of amazing. Today, I'm diving deep into something we all struggle with—comparisonitis—and the mental load we carry as mums. It's all too easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, whether it's how we look, what our kids are eating, or the seemingly perfect lives we see online. This episode will help you realise that you're doing an incredible job, even if it feels like it's never enough. In this episode, I discuss: Comparisonitis How exhausting it can be.and why it's so important to recognise when it's happening and how to break the cycle. The Mental Load of Motherhood Mums often wear multiple hats every day. I dive into how managing your family's needs can feel overwhelming, and how to lighten the load. Why Perfection is Overrated It's easy to feel like you're failing when things aren't perfect. I discuss why embracing imperfection is key to better mental health and parenting. Filling up our Cup We all need a little self-care. I share some strategies to carve out time for yourself, even if it's just a few minutes a day. If you're feeling overwhelmed or doubting yourself, take a moment to breathe and remember that you're doing the best you can. Your kids are loved, they're fed, and they're thriving. And that's what matters. Show Notes: More about Karina and Nourishing Kids!
In this episode, I delve into the pervasive issue of extraversion bias and its impact on mental health. Many introverts grapple with a world tailored to extrovert ideals, often leading to feelings of misalignment and pressure to fit in. We know that this societal preference can significantly affect someone's mental well-being, leaving we introverts feeling inadequate at various stages of our life. I share my perspective on how aligning with dominant role models who exude confidence can exacerbate conformity bias and contribute to an environment that feels oppressive. I explore strategies for recognising these biases and avoiding 'comparison'-itis; the habit of unhealthy self-comparison that fuels anxiety. I then share why reciprocal support networks are important for maintaining our mental wellness. *** Key Points *** Recognise Extraversion Bias Avoid 'Comparison'-itis at all costs Build intentional support network #MentalHealth #Introverts #FlourishingIntroverts *** Resources *** Visit https://hub.flourishingintroverts.com/resourcesp for tools and resources mentioned during the podcast.

Matt Church shares his revolutionary approach to building a fulfilling business centered around your unique expertise and preferences rather than chasing market opportunities. He explains why the "third choice" of running a practice (not just a job or business) creates more freedom, impact, and alignment with who you truly are. Key Takeaways You have three choices: get a job, start a business, or run a practice – and running a practice around what you know gives you more control and fulfillment Your differentiation comes from preference and selection, not trying to broadcast how special you are to everyone • Work from your essence, expertise, and experience to create something unique without the pressure of being completely different from everyone else The "vacation test" is brilliant: would you go on vacation with your clients? If not, they're probably not your ideal clients About Matt Church Matt Church is one of the world's leading strategic thinkers and speakers, known for helping people prepare for tomorrow by taking action today. It is a privilege to be self-expressed and it's a privilege to do so in service to others." - Matt Church "Action precedes confidence. It's much better to launch, to ship, to put yourself on the other side of a declaration and then figure it out. Because we can spend a lot of time on this side getting it right, going ta-da! And it falls flat on its face." - Matt Church "The times we've been most successful is when we've been the most focused – on the audience, the product, the offer, the goal. It's easier to market. Have you ever had a project derailed by a shame attack? Shame can sweep through, telling us we are not worthy, acceptable, or enough. It can be amplified by comparisonitis, where we judge our messy insides with our perception of other peoples' shiny exteriors. Val Nelson, a career and business coach, specialises in working with highly sensitive and introverted individuals. She wrote this article about dealing with comparisonitis and shame attacks, which I was excited to dive into with her. Many people have felt like black swans in a world that often fails to provide the right conditions for HSPs to thrive. While shame is not exclusive to quiet and gentle souls, it can be particularly challenging for those who have learned to view their natural needs and preferences as a problem to hide, dismiss, or overcome. So I invited Val onto The Gentle Rebel Podcast to explore how shame can cause us to shrink back and hide from their dreams, ambitions, and needs. I wanted to explore the words "comparisonitis" and "comparonoia," which can leave us feeling isolated and alone as we look at the world around us and tell ourselves unsupportive stories. In Our Conversation, Val and I Explore: The nature of shame attacks and the signs of one appearing How humour and playfulness are one of our most significant resources Why it's so hard to give ourselves what we need in the face of shame (even when we know what we ought to do) Personal experiences of shame attacks Val and I have been through recently How to listen to the message beneath the noise when we feel like things are not going to plan What it means to take ourselves less seriously (without undermining the integrity of our work) Over to You What are you taking away from this episode? Have you experienced a shame attack? I'd love to hear from you in the comments, via a message, or through social media. Links Val's website Connect with Val on Linkedin Would you like to strengthen your defences in the face of bubbling shame attacks and "comparanoia"? If so, I would love to help you develop a strategy to use through a Pick The Lock call.

Comparisonitis is the thief of joy, it's the energy of unworthiness, as compared to others or to where we think we should be, and it's a huge problem when it comes to stepping forward into your power in life and business. We all do it - but what can we do about it? I'm talking this through because it's something I see in clients and women I have been journeying with in my own studies, and it's origin and impact can be subtle, yet run deep. It can stop us believing in ourselves, trusting ourselves, and fulfilling the soul purpose we're here to live out. It can keep us poor, stifled, unfulfilled, and afraid. And it's time we cut through the BS to be more of our wild, powerful selves, so we can be the leaders we need to be, and be supported to do what we're here to do. I'm talking through:Why we compare ourselves as a root cause and some of the common triggers that paralyse us,How it shows up in my menstrual cycle, and how I can watch out for this in my life and biz,The harmful effects of comparing ourselves to others, and the ways it keeps us small and scared, Embodied, cyclical and energetic strategies for breaking free from this energy when it strikes, so we can step forward and own our individual worth, magick and power. How to cure comparisonitis starts by understanding the cause and that this isn't just a “you” problem. It's something that impacts you, your confidence, your sense of self, and your well-being, so it feels deeply personal. Since it's internal, comparisonitis feels like a habit of comparing yourself to others in one or multiple areas. It's usually triggered in an area that already feels endangered in some way – often things like financial success or belonging. It turns into a cycle of validation seeking where you feel inadequate or less than, doubt yourself and your abilities and seek validation from others which tends to further erode self-esteem. It's also framed as an individual issue even when noted as being exacerbated by things like social media. But you can tell there's more to it both in what feels threatened and how it's exacerbated. In this episode of Unlimited, I'm exploring the causes of and how to cure comparisonitis. Some of what I'll cover in this episode include:Losing my self and self-trustSacrificing authenticity for belongingSurvival mode upholds societal normsEngaging individual and collective healing4 steps to recalibrate your inner compassThank you for listening! I'm back with another bonus episode for you today! HER Style Collective, my 90-day interactive group coaching program, is starting in just 5 days. I'm SO excited to dive in and I can talk about the benefits of this program all day long. But I don't want you to take my word for it. My students are the best testament to its success. So I invited 3 of them on to share their stories with you in bonus episodes throughout the weekend! Yesterday, you heard Aliya's story and today, we're turning it over to my client, Ashleigh. Ashleigh enrolled in my now retired Wardrobe Refresh Program (which followed the same step-by-step framework as HER Style Collective in a DIY format) a little over a year ago while she was pregnant with twins and juggling her sweet toddler, married life, working from home and all the things. It was a big leap for Ashleigh to invest in herself and take on this program. Since then, we've been able to design the perfect Personal Color Palette for her as well and it's been a joy to see her success in implementing what she's learned. Listen in today as Ashleigh shares about her struggles to adapt her style after transitioning to motherhood and working from home, having a lack of confidence in her wardrobe, and a pretty common case of comparisonitis. You'll also get to hear about how she learned to trust her style intuition, reworked her wardrobe without having to buy lots of new pieces, and finally stopped buying the same black t-shirt over and over and started shopping with strategy and intention! The timing of this episode is pretty ironic. I was walking home from dropping Vinnie off at school this morning and couldn't shake this ominous, anxious feeling. I was thinking about some projects I have coming up and had these little wee bits of self-doubt creeping in. Then I popped on to social media to see that the entire rest of the world 100% had their lives figured out on this Monday morning and my wee bits of self-doubt blossomed into a rapid onset of Comparisonitis. A few hours later, I sat down to look at my content calendar and see that I'm supposed to talk to you all about positive thinking today. Haha. I see you Universe - just smiling down on me… So, here's the thing. Positive thinking is a critically important coping skill and the advantages of positive thinking cannot be overstated. But those of us who tout it certainly are not incapable of waking up with a case of the Mondays, as I did today. The power of positive thinking is that you can use it as a tool to navigate a tough moment or as a way to ground yourself #everydamnday. It can be a cornerstone of your life if you so choose. When it comes to the long-term integration of positive thinking as a coping skill, the advantages of positive thinking become glaring and beautifully evident. In fact, there are 5 advantages of positive thinking that are especially impactful across your lifetime. 5 Advantages of Positive Thinking: Resiliency and grit More rewarding personal and professional lives Enhanced relationships and kindness toward others Improved physical health, esp heart health and immunity Decreased symptoms of depression and anxiety* *This is definitely not to suggest that positive thinking is a treatment for clinical depression or anxiety. We talk this through in the episode. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety, please talk to your doctor. In this episode, I talk you through 5 advantages of positive thinking and 4 ways to use positive thinking as routine coping skills in your daily life.
