With #BlackLivesMatter at the forefront of our minds, Grace delves into why protesting isn't always a solution to injustice. Those who choose to protest, however, should follow it up with concrete actions, such as buying and supporting Black businesses, lobbying politicians who offer more than mere symbolic support of Black people, and more. For Black women, however, protesting places us at the risk and mercy of a system/state that rarely punishes those who attack or victimize us. Black women are statistically twice as likely to be arrested and incarcerated than our non-Black counterparts. When any action we carry out can be misinterpreted as aggression - is it safe for us to march and protest in the streets?Don't forget to rate/review this show on Apple Podcasts and share it with your friends and family. Black Lives Matter doesn't always include Black women. Despite the fact that the movement was started by three Black women, or the fact that Black women are its biggest supporters, the movement often ignores instances of police brutality and violence against Black women, all the while honing in on those enacted against Black men.
