Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether the Pittsburgh offense can go toe-to-toe with Cincinnati's in a shootout. In the last five games between the Steelers and Bengals, every time Cincinnati has had Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins available to them, they've scored at least 30 points. The Pittsburgh offense is coming off its worst game of the season, managing just 10 points after a garbage-time touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. But it may be up to that unit to find a way to return to form, and secure victory for the Black and Gold. Can they do it? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. On today's episode, we discuss Alex Highsmith missing a second consecutive practice and Nick Herbig being in line to start against the Cincinnati Bengals. We talked about Teryl Austin talking about having to be careful to not overcorrect in the same way they did in their first matchup when Chase Brown got going on the ground. We also touch on playing inverted Cover-2, different ways to use personnel and much more. Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this! Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how the Pittsburgh defense can handle the star Cincinnati receivers. Last time around, JaMarr Chase and Tee Higgins torched them for over 250 yards, with Andrei Iosivas and Noah Fant piling to make it fan even 350 yards for the top four receivers combined in a 33-31 Cincinnati win on Thursday Night Football last month. This time around, there are different personnel available to Teryl Austin, Mike Tomlin and company, but is there a schematic answer? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the team having a lengthy DNP list for their first practice of the week, including the likes of Alex Highsmith & Broderick Jones. Asante Samuel Jr. spoke to the media for the first time and talked about his procedure and said he feels like he's as healthy as he's been in his NFL career. We also touched on how cool it is to see James Pierre playing at a high level when given the opportunity to do so. Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this! Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the return of rookie quarterback Will Howard from the injured reserve list. Howard has been out since training camp with a broken pinky finger that cost him his best opportunity to make an impact during his rookie year -- the preseason. With Howard now returning mid-season, will he get a real opportunity to show what he can do, or will it mostly be a wasted season for the sixth-round rookie from Ohio State? Alan breaks it down. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the last four games of extremely inconsistent football. The Pittsburgh offense played well enough to win against the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers, but the defense fell apart. Last week, it was the offense coming up well short against the Los Angeles Chargers while the defense held serve. So what to expect going forward? Alan breaks it down. Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the fallout of the team's loss to the LA Chargers. Was this just a bad performance from Aaron Rodgers or a sign of things to come the rest of the way? The team moved on from Juan Thornhill and brought back old friend Sebastian Castro. Was this a surprise? What do they do at FS (behind Jalen Ramsey) moving forward? Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this! Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the team's Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football. The Chargers have the sixth-worst run defense in the league by yards per carry, and while Jaylen Warren had only 31 yards against the Indianapolis Colts last week, getting him going looks like the key to another West Coast win. We also discuss what Teryl Austin had to say about Kyle Dugger jumping on the train and Artie Smith had to say in regard to Roman Wilson's fumble. We then discuss where exactly this team should sit in the pecking order of the AFC and if we believe they have their offensive line of the future. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the roller coaster of emotion that Steeler Nation has been riding the last two weeks. After consecutive losses to the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers, the pitchforks and torches were out, with a large portion of the fanbase wanting to fire Mike Tomlin despite a 4-3 start that had the team in first place. Two days after a win over the Indianapolis Colts, the fanbase is now aflame that general manager Omar Khan had the audacity to stand pat with the very same squad the fanbase wanted to jettison, instead of going all in on winning a championship this season. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the remaining 12 picks in Omar Khan's stash for the 2026 NFL Draft. The Steelers passed on trading away picks at the 2025 NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, deciding they valued extra selections over adding depth at receiver or another position. So what is Khan planning to do with all those picks? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the team standing pat at the NFL Trade Deadline, despite all the buzz about the team adding another wide receiver. The only addition to that room was Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the form of a practice squad addition. So where does the team go from here? Could they bring in Asante Samuel Jr. now that he's been cleared? Mike Tomlin said Jalen Ramsey will once again play free safety. Is that the best use of his services? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the upcoming NFL trade deadline and what Steelers general manager Omar Khan has planned before the 4 p.m. deadline. Khan is certainly looking for a wide receiver, with several irons in the fire, and the name that seems most likely to end up on the Pittsburgh roster is Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the team's victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Is the safety duo of Kyle Dugger & Jalen Ramsey here to stay? Did this game change your mind on how to feel about the team moving forward? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the performance of outside linebacker Alex Highsmith in the team's 27-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Highsmith had four tackles, three for a loss, one sack, one quarterback hit and a pass defended in the victory -- his best performance of the season. The noise has been loud over the past few weeks as Highsmith returned from injury and returned to his starting role, while pushing Nick Herbig down the depth chart. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's Indianapolis Colts rookie tight end Tyler Warren. The Penn State product and first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft has been dominating as a rookie with 492 yards already this season. Mike Tomlin's Pittsburgh defense, on the other hand, was just eaten alive by Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft for two touchdowns and 143 yards. Is there anything from that performance that should give the Pittsburgh faithful any hope that the Black and Gold can stop Warren this week? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's Mike Tomlin's comments about the offense settling for too many field goals against the Green Bay Packers. Chris Boswell kicked four field goals in that game. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the trade for veteran safety Kyle Dugger from the New England Patriots. Dugger comes to Pittsburgh after losing his staring job in New England. The trade price was extremely low, with Omar Khan just swapping day three picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the Patriots are paying most of his salary. So what makes a nearly free cast-off a good fit for the Steelers? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss Mike Tomlin coming to the defense of Teryl Austin, why his answers don't add up in regard to what's going on with the secondary, if it's time to completely ice Darius Slay out of the rotation and where to go from here. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the signing of wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and what he brings to the table. Valdes-Scantling is very familiar with Aaron Rodgers, having spent the first four years of his career with him with the Green Bay Packers, and that should make him able to hit the ground running in Pittsburgh, where the 6-foot-4 field-stretcher can provide something Pittsburgh has not had in its wide receivers room. Does that mean Omar Khan is done making additions to that group? Alan breaks it down.' Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the fallout from the team's loss to the Green Bay Packers. At some point, you are who you are and it's clear the Steelers' defense doesn't have the answer for what is giving them weekly problems through the air. So where do they go from here? Especially if they're down DeShon Elliott? What other buttons can they press? Why did the offense get away from the run game with a two-possession lead? Has their trade deadline focus shifted? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the complete meltdown of the Pittsburgh secondary and what can be done about it in time to salvage results for the 2025 season. Last year, the Baltimore Ravens made a bold move mid-season, bringing Dean Peas out of retirement to help turn the tide of a struggle defense that ended with the Ravens running down the Steelers for the AFC North title. Should the Steelers be open to a similar change -- or even a more drastic one like firing Teryl Austin? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's a key matchup for Pittsburgh on Sunday night football: Packers tight end Tucker Kraft. Last week, Cincinatti bengals tight end Noah Fant went off against the defense for a season high in receiving yards and a touchdown. Kraft is capable of doing much more that, with a season high of 124 coming into Sundays game. Patrick Queen is coming off of one of his worst games in Pittsburgh. Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the injury report and statuses of Calvin Austin III, Zach Frazier, TJ Watt & Scotty Miller. We dive into what Teryl Austin & Arthur Smith had to say about the defensive performances and how Micah Parsons presents a different challenge than Myles Garrett. Would having Aaron Rodgers back in the fold in 2026 make it even more appealing to draft a QB in the 2026 NFL Draft? How much would a win against the Packers impact how you feel about the Steelers? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's about kick and put returns. The Steelers have a solid punt returner in Calvin Austin III and seem to have a quality backup in rookie Ke'Shawn Williams. Willams also worked as a kick returner for Danny Smith's unit, something that has been historically very rare. Why do teams use different players for kick and punt returns and what makes for a good return man? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

What will that mean for Roman Wilson? We also discuss how much Aaron Rodgers is enjoying his time in Pittsburgh both on and off the field. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's about the team's little-used Dime defensive package and if that could help with some of the secondary issues revealed in Thursday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Could a six-man defensive backfield, perhaps containing Brandin Echols in addition to the usual starting five, be helpful, and if it wouldn't have helped against the Bengals, could it be a factor this week against the Green Bay Packers? Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss what Mike Tomlin had to say in terms of injury updates to Calvin Austin III, Miles Killebrew and others. He also touched on not being worried about the playing surface at Acrisure Stadium and why we didn't see a ton of Nick Herbig. It was more about what he didn't say though, which was not placing a ton of blame on the play of secondary for Thursday Night's loss to the Bengals. We also touch on if the team needs to make a significant jump to land a QB in the 2026 NFL Draft, how the marriage with Aaron Rodgers is thriving and the amount of touches Jaylen Warren needs to receive. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the team's young offensive tackles and how they're performing. Troy Fautanu and Broderick Jones have now played six games together as the team's starting right and left tackles after being first-round picks in consecutive drafts in 2023 and 2024. But the team already has an upcoming decision to make about the future of Jones, who will have his fifth-year option either picked up or declined next offseason. Have they been making the grade so far, how much has the team's heavy package with Darnell Washington and Spencer Anderson helped, and can they succeed without it, especially against a tough task like Micah Parsons, Rashan Gary and the Green Bay Packers? Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss if the team will adjust their approach to the trade deadline following their loss to the Bengals. Should they still be seeking WR help or shift focus? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the job offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has done with quarterbacks in his tenure with the team. Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who were successes as Steelers quarterbacks in 2024, have now been benched by their new teams, with Fields set down by the New York Jets on Sunday despite a $30 million guaranteed contract. Fields had the best season of his career with Smith and the Steelers, turned that into a big payday, and has now seemingly turned back into a pumpkin. Wilson was better in Pittsburgh than he had been with the Denver Broncos, but was worse with the New York Giants before his benching for Jaxson Dart. Aaron Rodgers has also had a career resurgence with Pittsburgh and under Smith. Ryan Tannehill had the best seasons of his 11-year career when Smith was his OC with the Tennessee Titans. Smith has never developed a quarterback from draft pick to successful starter, but should his success with other players at the position give the Steelers faith in his ability to do so in 2026? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals and what it means for the 2025 season. A win over Cincinnati would put the Steelers a massive 3.5 games ahead of the rest of the AFC North. That would be the biggest divisional lead for any team since the final week of the 2019 season, and having such a head start at this point in the season is nearly unprecedented. Not even when the Steelers started 11-0 in 2020 did they have such a clear path to a divisional title. There's no such thing as a must-win game this early in the season -- especially when a team is 4-1 -- but if the Black and Gold want a home playoff game, this is the kind of game they have to win.
