Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's trying to rank the quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft class. Which, of course, is a fool's errand. The NFL teams that will spend millions of dollars between now and next April attempting to do that have a 100% chance of getting it wrong. So who cares what anyone thinks now? Arch Manning is probably the prospect in the class with the highest upside, but it's a real question as to whether he'll even come out. You can make good arguments for an against the likes of LaNorris Sellers, Drew Allar, Cade Klubnik, Fernando Mendoza, Garrett Nussmeier and Nico Iamaleava, and there are plenty more that could play their way into that conversation. The real question isn't who's best, it's who will be available when the Steelers are on the clock -- or how far up they'll have to go to get a franchise quarterback. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the Steelers big trade with the Miami Dolphins last week and how general manager Omar Khan is counting on Mike Tomlin and his coaching staff to make the pieces fit. The Steelers got the best of the trade with the Dolphins, adding a more-valuable secondary piece in Jalen Ramsey in addition to Jonnu Smith in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick. But it's not immediately clear how all the pieces will fit together, and if the coaching staff can't make it work, it will open fair questions about the quality of the trade and their future. Estos son los cinco entrenadores que arrancan la temporada en la cuerda floja, con el riesgo de ser despedidos durante o al terminar el año.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the Steelers offseason, including Monday's big trade with the Miami Dolphins, and how much they're focused on trying to beat -- or be -- the Baltimore Ravens. The 2025 season fell apart for Pittsburgh, thanks to a five-game losing streak to close the season that included two losses to the Ravens. The latter, in the playoffs, involved Baltimore racking up nearly 300 rushing yards against the Steelers defense. So how much of what Omar Khan is doing this offseason has been about trying to reverse the trend against the Ravens, and possibly even taking some of Baltimore's ideas for themselves? Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how the trade to acquire tight end Jonnu Smith has continued an offseason-long trend of catering to the personality and scheme of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith -- putting the pressure on him to increase the performance of his offense. The Steelers acquired Smith, making him the third former Smith protege on the current roster, joining Cordarrelle Patterson and Scotty Miller. In addition to players that have played for Smith before, the Steelers have also made moves to help better fit his scheme, grabbing Aaron Rodgers instead of Russell Wilson and drafting Kaleb Johnson instead of keeping Najee Harris. Smith did a good job last year in his first season as the Steelers offensive coordinator, but the unprecedented level of service to his scheme and personality fit this offseason definitely ramps up the pressure to be an above-average offense in 2025. The future homes of the Chiefs and Royals is becoming a Border War. Missouri and Kansas have come up with incentives to build stadiums, or renovate Arrowhead for the Chiefs. The latest development: A letter from Chiefs President Mark Donovan asking Kansas to extend the deadline beyond June 30 for STAR bonds that would be used to pay for up to 70 percent of stadium projects. “Together,” Donovan write, “we have the opportunity to bring the National Football League to Kansas, anchored by a world-class domed stadium, new team headquarters, a state-of-the-art practice facility, and a vibrant mixed-use and entertainment district.” This comes on the heels of Missouri passing the Show-Me Sports Investment Act, which also sweetens the deal for the teams, paying up to half for the teams' new homes. On SportsBeat KC, The Star's sports podcast, veteran Kansas City sports writers Vahe Gregorian, Sam McDowell and Jesse Newell join host Blair Kerkhoff to break down the Border War competition for new or rebuilt stadiums that will cost in the billions. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's once again blockbuster trade between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins. There seems to be a lot of negative feelings about this trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers fanbase, and a lot of them come from the lack of understanding about the relative positional values of safety and cornerback. This week is America's 249th birthday and there are few things more quintessentially American than football. So we have a special treat for you, a conversation with Marissa Solis. She is the steward of the NFL brand and serves as SVP of Global Brand and Consumer Marketing. The National Football League is by far the most valuable sports league in the world. She has been instrumental in widening the aperture and appeal of the game and the enterprise. Demographics made this an imperative, technology made it possible, and with them business of sports - which is as much about playing games as it is about media and entertainment. Exhibit One (of many): the most recent NLF draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the blockbuster trade between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the Cincinnati Bengals new deal on a lease extension at Paycor Stadium. The Bengals and Hamilton County, Ohio have agreed to a $470 million deal to keep the Bengals in Cincinnati for another 10 years. With Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro cautioning that the state budget may not have stadium money for the Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles in it this time around, a local deal like the one the Bengals reached might just be the ticket for when the Steelers' lease ends in 2030. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's a question about the cause of problem players like former Pittsburgh receiver George Pickens. Pickens was in the headlines again on Wednesday after bailing last-minute on a youth football camp in Pittsburgh that he had committed to running, despite his trade to the Dallas Cowboys. What causes players like Pickens to allow to continue to have attitude problems throughout their careers, and is it a rising problem? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's a question about a new NFL Draft trade trend that Omar Khan has jumped on. The Steelers' trade of George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys contains both a third-round pick in 2026 coming from Dallas to Pittsburgh, and a swap of 2027 NFL Draft picks, with the Cowboys' fifth-rounder coming to Pittsburgh in exchange for the Steelers' sixth-rounder. This type of trade is a relatively new trend around the NFL, but Khan has been a keen adopter. What are the benefits and why do NFL teams like this structure? Alan breaks it down. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's putting to bed the incessant rumors connecting the Steelers to Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey has been on the block for months without a deal coming to the forefront, and the Steelers have been repeatedly connected to him, despite the lack of an obvious fit or need. ESPN's Adam Schefter put those rumors to bed for good on Tuesday, saying it's unlikely that the Steelers will acquire the former All-Pro. Instead, it seems much more likely that Ramsey will head to the West Coast, where he'd prefer to play, and the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams have more obvious fits for him in their depth charts. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether the team will be looking for a new stadium when their least expires after the 2030 season. Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro told reporters on Sunday that the state does not think funding new stadiums for the Steelers (2031) and Philadelphia Eagles (2033) when their current leases expire should be a priority. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has been publicly noncommittal about whether the Eagles will pursue a new stadium when their lease expires. The pivotal moment in National Football League history that we shall explore today is the remarkable 1961 season of the Green Bay Packers, a year that heralded the inception of a formidable dynasty under the esteemed guidance of Vince Lombardi. Following a narrow defeat in the previous championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Packers rebounded spectacularly, culminating in a resounding victory over the New York Giants with a score of 37 to 0. This victory not only secured their championship but also marked the dawn of Lombardi's legendary tenure as one of the greatest coaches in the annals of football. We shall delve into the strategies employed by the Packers, examining the contributions of key players such as Bart Starr and Jimmy Taylor, alongside a discussion of the defensive prowess that stifled the Giants' offense throughout the game. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how the change from Russell Wilson to Aaron Rodgers will change the way offensive coordinator Arthur Smith goes about his business. The relationship between Smith and Wilson had famously deteriorated by the end of the 2024 season, with stories leaking in the media about Smith restricting his ability to make changes to plays at the line of scrimmage. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether the Steelers should pursue cornerback Jalen Ramsey as a trade option. The Miami Dolphins are trading Ramsey, the 30-year-old, seven-time Pro Bowler, in what is apparently a mutual decision. The Steelers are already set at outside corberback with Darius Slay and Joey Porter Jr. in the fold. They could use Ramsey as an option in the slot, where he would certainly be an upgrade over Beanie Bishop. But he is due $21.1 million over the rest of the 2025 season -- a hefty sum for any cornerback, let alone one playing in the slot -- and it's unlikely that a move to a more phyiscally demanding position at 30 years old would be the thing that would please the disgruntled Dolphins corner. Bernard Keane says the council must preserve the current model, which gives the province's lesser counties the best chance of reaching the decider.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the signing of strong safety DeShon Elliott to a two-year contract extension on Monday, and whether general manager Omar Khan made a good deal. Elliott has agreed to a two-year contract extension with $12.5 million in new money, which will make him just the 30th-highest-paid safety in the NFL, despite a strong season with the Steelers in 2024. The Steelers just went through two weeks of OTAs and one week of mandatory minicamp, and now have five weeks off before the start of training camp 2025 at St. Vincent College. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers looked at the team's three-day mandatory minicamp, which wrapped up on Thursday. Rodgers signed with the Steelers two weeks into the three-week offseason period, missing the first two weeks of optional OTAs before coming to town and signing for the mandatory minicamp. Rodgers didn't do much this week, with head coach Mike Tomlin choosing to hold him out of team periods while he gets up to speed with the offense. But we did get to see Rodgers throw this week, and even at 41 years old, one of the most talented quarterbacks in NFL history can still rip it. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. It's a reasonable question, with the quarterback returning to the Black and Gold after one year way in Tennessee, but coming to a new offensive scheme under Arthur Smith. But when talking about a player with as much NFL experience as Rudolph, especially one whose biggest issues in live NFL game-play have come when under the kind of pressure and duress that simply won't be replicated in the practice setting of OTAs, well his performance at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex doesn't really mean that much. Irv's books and blog writings moved to the center of scrutiny of WWE co-founder and former chief executive Linda McMahon's unsuccessful 2010 U.S. Senate candidacy in Connecticut on the Republican ticket.Over the last four years, Irv's work has helped elevate the story of widespread traumatic brain injury and its consequences for National Football League players and other professional and amateur athletes. His reporting has identified Dr. Joseph Maroon – medical director of WWE, team neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and a widely quoted NFL consultant – as being among the key figures in manipulating research that was slow to identify and take seriously evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy. In the process, the $10-billion-a-year pro football industry was protected and NFL-affiliated doctors profited.
