The Pittsburgh Steelers' coaching staff is finally taking shape under new leadership. We'll evaluate the impact of signing veteran slugger Marcell Ozuna to a $12 million deal, along with the acquisitions of All-Star second baseman Brandon Lowe and first baseman Ryan O'Hearn.Plus, the Pittsburgh Penguins are catching fire. With rookie sensation Ben Kindel making history and the team coming off a recent six-game winning streak, there is a serious buzz in the air. Hockey Jesus is ready to tell you why this run is the real deal and how newcomer Avery Hayes just had a debut for the ages. It's going to be a wild ride through the Pittsburgh sports landscape, so let's get into it!
In this clip from the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bitner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to react to the Seattle Seahawks' victory in the Super Bowl. Did Sam Darnold show that GM Omar Khan and new coach Mike McCarthy can win big with free agent QBs? Could 2026 free agents like Daniel Jones, Zach Wilson, Malik Willis or Mitch Trubisky repeat Darnold's success? Or was he a unique option for Seattle last offseason? And how should Darnold's victory impact the view the Steelers should have of in-house options like Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph and Will Howard? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Later, the guys react to the way Seattle won with elite defense and a strong running game. Can McCarthy and new coordinators Patrick Graham and Brian Angelichio mimic that success? Why haven't the Steelers been able to play great defense consistently under former coach Mike Tomlin with top talents like T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward and Jalen Ramsey on the roster? Does GM Omar Khan need to been up his secondary around Joey Porter Jr. with more elite players like Devon Witherspoon and Nick Emmanwori? And are Jaylen Warren, Kenneth Gainwell and/or Kaleb Johnson capable of a big-game performance like we saw from the Seahawks' Kenneth Walker III? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Today is the 20-year anniversary of the Steelers beating the Seahawks in Super Bowl XL to collect ‘one for the thumb.' Ben Roethlisberger has the worst passer rating by a winning QB in Super Bowl history, but he is still the youngest QB to win the game. Is it weird that Ben apparently hates Super Bowl XL because he had a bad game, even though he was the biggest reason why they got there? Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray said the size of staff has really stuck out to him when comparing what Mike McCarthy has put together in comparison to Mike Tomlin. Ray said he's excited to see what Patrick Graham can do with a defense that has more resources than he's used to. Ray said McCarthy called Scott Tolzien to tell him he wasn't going to get the OC job, so his move to stay with the Saints wasn't necessarily his choice. Ray still thinks TJ Watt would fetch the biggest return in a trade, but the salary would scare some teams away. Ray talked about edge rushers being able to age gracefully. Total Request Thursday.

January 30, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 87 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the latest news concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers and their rebuilt coaching staff that is being assembled under new HC Mike McCarthy. While none of the coaching staff hires have been made official by the team, several seem destined to happen at this point. Alex and I go over the news concerning the hirings or interviews of Lunda Wells, Scott Tolzien, Ramon Chinyoung, Adam Henry, James Campen, Jahri Evans, Jason Simmons, and Patrick Graham, who will reportedly be the team's new defensive coordinator. Alex and I also address the news that the Steelers will reportedly retain Tom Arth, Scott McCurley, and Gerald Alexander from the 2025 coaching staff. We move on to discuss the future of QB Aaron Rodgers related to numerous members of the reported new coaching staff in Pittsburgh. We also address the numerous links back to McCarthy when it comes to his perceived staff hirings as of Friday morning. With Graham set to become the Steelers' new defensive coordinator, Alex and I do a deep dive into his coaching career. We talk a lot about his defensive roots, his schemes, his tendencies and much more. We go over his fit in Pittsburgh and his most recent job as the DC with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Steelers have a new wide receiver on their roster as of Thursday, so Alex and I quickly go over the signing of WR A. T. Perry and what traits he brings to Pittsburgh. Steelers AGM Andy Weidl did not get the general manager job with the Atlanta Falcons, so we discuss that bit of news during this show. McCarthy was a guest on WDVE Radio on Friday morning, so Alex and I discuss the main talking points that came out of that 15-minute interview. This 107-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the above recap and we make sure to read and answer a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. On the Friday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko analyze the composition of new coach Mike McCarthy's staff so far. Is McCarthy leaning too hard into prior relationships with assistants like James Campen, Scott McCurley, Ramon Chinyoung and others? Or holdovers from Mike Tomlin's staff including Gerald Alexander and Tom Arth? Or should fans trust the ways McCarthy has compiled staffs in the past as he adds names like Patrick Graham at DC; Adam Henry at receivers coach and Jason Simmons as a defensive assistant? Our duo tackles those questions, then Chris gives his insight on his media scrum this week with Scott Tolzien, a reported candidate to take the role of offensive coordinator. Mike McCarthy says the Steelers are not in a rebuild right now. Is he right? With the QB position in such question, Poni can't help but think they are in a rebuild. Odds makers say that the Steelers are in fact, in a rebuild. Open Phone Friday. Fake John in Robinson says he is switching fandoms to the Baltimore Ravens. JT Brick joins the show to talk about Patrick Graham. JT says that Graham is a very smart guy and is just as good as his players are. Which makes sense since he is the DC of the Raiders. He says that Patrick is going to fit very well with Mike McCarthy.

Mark is all for Rodgers or Mason Rudolph. How many wings is too many? Poni asks if it is a done deal that Patrick Graham is the next DC. Mark hasn't heard anything yet, but thinks it is trending that way and they will announce the whole staff at the same time. Mark doesn't think that McCarthy got hired only because he is from Pittsburgh. Senior Bowl, pizza, and Poni proposes a chicken wing eating contest between the two.
Steelers fans… the Mike McCarthy era is officially here, and the conversation is getting real fast. In this episode of Steel City Insider Podcast, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic joins the show, and we break down why McCarthy's intro press conference flipped the public narrative, what the Steelers actually had to choose from in a tough coaching market, and why the next 12 months come down to one thing: finding and developing the next quarterback. We also dive into the hire of Patrick Graham as defensive coordinator—his background, his scheme flexibility, and why this might be the most underrated move of the offseason. Then we get into the question everyone keeps asking: Is Aaron Rodgers really in play for Pittsburgh? We lay out the factors pointing toward it, what it would mean for McCarthy's transition, and how it changes the timeline for drafting a QB. McCarthy will be the play caller. Scott Tolzien is interviewing to be the Steelers offensive coordinator. Patrick Graham is likely going to be the defensive coordinator. Commanders defensive assistant Jason Simmons is expected to be hired as a prominent defensive coach with the Steelers. McCarthy underachieved with Aaron Rodgers.
Hour 4 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: McCarthy will be the play caller. Scott Tolzien is interviewing to be the Steelers offensive coordinator. Patrick Graham is likely going to be the defensive coordinator. Commanders defensive assistant Jason Simmons is expected to be hired as a prominent defensive coach with the Steelers. Would you trade Stuart Skinner at the deadline? He has been a huge success of the Penguins' success in 2026.
There are conflicting reports surrounding Patrick Graham, who is expected to be the Steelers next defensive coordinator. Some reports say the deal is done, but others say that is not the case and he still has to interview with the team. Graham's defenses don't look good on the surface, but are they as bad as that? His defenses have performed better than the Steelers defense in recent years, which is the highest paid unit in the game. The Raiders have Maxx Crosby, but outside of that, there isn't a ton of talent there and certainly not what the Steelers offer. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray said his understanding is that the Steelers will hire Patrick Graham as their next DC. Ray talked about some of the overturn in the coaching staff and that we could see more coaches under Mike McCarthy. Ray wouldn't be surprised at all if Aaron Rodgers is back as the Steelers QB and thinks it could even be for a raise. Ray expects us to largely see the same Rodgers that we saw last season. Will it look any different in the McCarthy offense? The guys asked Ray about the love for Will Howard and if there is a real chance the kid is the Steelers QB1 by the season opener? Ray expects us to know in 4-6 weeks if Rodgers will be back. Ray immediately jumped to Malik Willis when asked about an outside QB that could be here if Rodgers decides to retire or play elsewhere. Total Request Thursday.

On the Wednesday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko to analyze the next moves in front of new coach Mike McCarthy now that he's been introduced. Can anyone from outside the Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher coaching tree really coach the defense the same way after McCarthy's commitment to keep the 3-4 scheme in place for now? Does that decision open the door for Teryl Austin to return? Or will he give way to reported candidates including Jason Simmons and Patrick Graham as the franchise looks to get more from a unit led by names like Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt, Jalen Ramsey and Joey Porter Jr.? Our duo tackles those questions, then pivots to offense. Will McCarthy cultivate a larger staff that Tomlin did under coordinators including Arthur Smith and Matt Canada? Opening space for younger coaches to rise through the ranks? Or will he try to keep the circle tight? Will he choose an OC from his own coaching tree, which includes reported candidates like Scott Tolzien and Lunda Wells? Or could he look outside at a name like Nate Scheelhaase, should the Browns decide not to target him in their own coaching search? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss Mike McCarthy's staff starting to take place as he is bringing in Adam Henry to be the new WRs coach and Patrick Graham as the new defensive coordinator. There will also be some retention from Mike Tomlin's staff, as Scott McCurley, Gerald Alexander and Tom Arth will all be retained. The team also requested to interview Bubba Ventrone for their special team's coordinator role. Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this! Learn more about your ad choices. 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff told us Patrick Graham as DC is likely, but not official just yet. Jeff said Lunda Wells as OC has some smoke to it, but again, nothing official. Jeff told us the Steelers are ‘setting the table' for an Aaron Rodgers return and if he wants to come back, it will happen. Jeff described Will Howard as the ‘in-house' option and would rather them just run him out on the field next season and let the chips fall. Is Jonnu Smith on his way out the door? Jeff thinks this change sets up well for Pat Freiermuth. He would be surprised if Kenneth Gainwell isn't viewed as a priority this offseason. Jeff reported to us that the Steelers front office told Rodgers they need to know ‘within a month' if he will return. Jeff likes the foundation on the defense that the next coordinator will be able to play around with.
BREAKING NEWS: The Steelers and Mike McCarthy are close to hiring Patrick Graham as the team's DC. The guys think it's ‘uninspiring' as McCarthy's first big move. Graham seemingly did more with less with the Raiders in the last few years, so what will he do with the league's highest-paid unit? The guys thought we'd see a former head coach become the DC. A caller mentioned Al Harris. How do others feel about Patrick Graham? Poni also doesn't like that the Steelers are retaining multiple guys from last year's staff and one makes him feel like Aaron Rodgers will be back. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike said there was reason for Mike McCarthy speaking highly of Aaron Rodgers yesterday and it wasn't just about wanting the QB back – it still, ultimately, comes down to Rodgers wanting to play. Mike said Rodgers coming back doesn't make sense because he's not close to the same player as he was when he worked with McCarthy. Mike expected the Steelers to get a coach that was wanted and sought after by multiple teams – they did the opposite with McCarthy, who only really had one option. Mike talked about the Steelers zigging in the coaching process when they are used to zagging and going with a young, up-and-coming assistant coach. Mike said the ‘QB whisperer' stuff with McCarthy is very over-blown and often walked into situations that already had great QBs.
Mark Kaboly said ‘absolutely yes' when asked on the midday show if Aaron Rodgers will be back in 2026 for a Steelers reunion with Mike McCarthy. Yuck. Why would that be a good idea? The guys are looking for good reasons, if there are any, for Rodgers to return next season. We discussed Kaboly's admiration of the Steelers always being the same team. ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi had a breakdown on Patrick Graham, who is expected to be hired as the Steelers next defensive coordinator. The guys asked Aditi about the hiring of Mike McCarthy and what the staff and team could look like next season. She thinks McCarthy's main goal is to figure out the quarterback. Are the Steelers going to run it back with Aaron Rodgers? She was surprised by how high everyone was on Will Howard in the press conference. She thought it was a little odd that the entire staff got told to go home after Mike Tomlin stepped down before the decision was even made on a new coach. Aditi would have loved Jim Schwartz getting a call from the Steelers and thinks it's an ‘insult' to assume Schwartz, who is known to run a 4-3 defense, can't adapt to a 3-4. Aditi predicted that Howard will be the Steelers QB in Week 1 next season. Donny Football Debrief – Pitt football is adjusting their capacity for home games next season.
The Steelers reportedly found Nate Scheelhaase ‘too inexperienced' to be considered for a head coach job. But the guys did note that Gerry Dulac referred to Scheelhaase as the ‘hottest of commodities' in the next year or two for teams looking for a head coach. Why didn't the Steelers take a chance on him? 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff told us Patrick Graham as DC is likely, but not official just yet.
