Joey Porter Jr. spoke for the first time on Tuesday after being activated from the PUP list. Porter Jr. wants to sign for what he will be worth in the coming seasons. Mark says the back injury was mostly exaggerated. Broderick Jones thinks switching between left tackle and right tackle really hurt him in the pros.
Hour 1 with Bob Pompeani, Joe Starkey, and Mark Kaboly: Joey Porter Jr. spoke for the first time on Tuesday after being activated from the PUP list. Mark Kaboly reported that teams were intrigued by Eli Heidenreich and he might not have been able to be on the practice squad. The Pirates found a way to beat the Giants 13-12 after having a huge lead.
ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi doesn't believe Joey Porter Jr. sitting out games would make the Steelers change their tradition of not negotiating contracts in-season. Aditi recalled what happened with Chris Jones and the Chiefs a few years ago. Aditi told us she will be doing Jets-Titans in Week 1. Aditi said there has to a showing of good faith from Porter to start the ball rolling on contract talks. Aditi was surprised by Elandon Roberts being cut because of what he brings to the locker room more than anything else. Did Aditi have any thoughts on Daejon Love, the guy that faked being a member of the 49ers and swindled several women out of money.
93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff said Max Iheanachor told reporters that he feels ready to start Week 1 at right tackle. Jeff feels like there is a better chance of Iheanachor starting now than there was last week. Is Germie Bernard quickly going to overtake Roman Wilson for WR3? The Steelers used a ton of TEs last year, but that isn't really the style Mike McCarthy plays with – will we see multiple TEs on the field at the same time this season? Jeff doesn't think it was a super serious conversation between Omar Khan and Joey Porter Jr. that reporters caught earlier today. Jeff thinks the franchise tag is ‘100% in-play' for the Steelers to use on Porter. Jeff doesn't buy the threat of Porter sitting out real games. Jeff thought the tone used by McCarthy and Khan were both telling when talking about Elandon Roberts. Jeff doesn't expect Roberts back and labeled him as ‘the victim' of the Steelers going with 4 QBs on their 53-man roster.

Khan's Quotes – What did Omar Khan say to the Steelers media today? Steelers reporter Brooke Pryor from ESPN joined the show. Brooke labeled this as a ‘bonus' week of work since the preseason is over, the roster is set and the regular season doesn't begin for nearly 2 weeks. How many moves will we see the Steelers make from their initial 53-man? Brooke thinks Kevin Jobity is likely the first person to go if the Steelers shuffle around some of their roster. Brooke also expects Eli Heidenreich to be on the chopping block if the team can't find a way to use him on game days. Brooke pointed out that safety and tackle are two spots the Steelers will look to add depth. Is Jalen Ramsey going to be seen at safety following the injury news with DeShon Elliott? Brooke thought the Elandon Roberts cut was a surprise and she would be additionally surprised if he isn't back on the roster in the next few weeks. Brooke said both sides are frustrated in the Joey Porter Jr. contract negotiations, but she isn't sounding the alarm yet because we have seen contracts come down to the wire before. Brooke wasn't surprised at all the Steelers kept 4 QBs and explained why Mike McCarthy didn't want to give up on Will Howard just yet. Do the Steelers believe that much in Roman Wilson entering his third year? Brooke tried to explain how women could have fallen for the Daejon Love scam. Donny Football Debrief – Elandon Roberts was the biggest surprise cut for the Steelers yesterday. Is this going to be a paper move with Roberts coming right back to the roster?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are making headlines after their 28-9 preseason victory over the Green Bay Packers — and there is A LOT to talk about! Drew Allar has Steelers Nation buzzing after an impressive preseason performance, but how much should we really read into what we saw? We break down the film, the hype, and what Allar's emergence could mean for the future of the Steelers quarterback room. PLUS:
August 14, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 8 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I start by talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers bringing ILB Elandon Roberts back on a one-year contract. We discuss how he possibly fits on defense moving forward. The Steelers placed DL Logan Lee on the Reserve/Injured list a few days ago, so Alex and I go over what his future looks like. We also pass along the news that OL Lorenzo Thompson has been waived from IR with an injury settlement. The Steelers won their 2026 preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night so Alex I get right into our full recap of that game. We start our game recap by talking about the play of all three quarterbacks, Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and rookie Drew Allar. We spend a lot of time looking at the play Thursday night of Howard and Allar as it was the first preseason action for both. After talking extensively about the quarterback play against the Packers, Alex and I then proceed to go position group by position group when it comes to the Thursday night game. We mention several players that stood out on both sides of the football and that includes covering the performances of several of the draft picks. The Steelers had a lot of penalties against the Packers, so we note how those need to be cleaned up moving forward into the preseason. Alex and I make sure to go over the snap counts of several players from Thursday night and that includes us noting that RB Kaleb Johnson did not see much action against the Packers. We also run through the long list of players that sat out the Thursday night preseason game. This 86-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we end this show by answering several emails we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Alan Saunders & Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss what Smitty took away from the team's preseason debut. From too many penalties, sloppy special teams, wondering where Kaleb Johnson was, impressive debuts by young QBs and the 2026 draft class, there's a lot to go over. We also discuss how Elandon Roberts' presence can allow the team to play more two-high safety. Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this! What was the downfall of the Pirates season? Elandon Roberts is back with the Steelers. Malik Harrison might be the odd man out.
Packers reporter Tom Silverstein joins to discuss his perspective of the McCarthy and Rodgers dynamic, who might see time for the Packers tonight, how Rodgers approached preseason with the Pack, could Rodgers go rogue if the season falls apart. Chris Hoke jumps on to discuss his son's practice at Pitt, which Steelers he will be focused on tonight, Roman Wilsons's outlook, the battle at right tackle, the trio of edge rushers all playing together, what big changes he wants to see under McCarthy.
It's finally a Steelers gameday again. Things finally feel different with a new coach. Patrick Graham went from a no-name defense with the Raiders to one littered with stars. Poni does a nice impression of Skinner's mom. Will Howard will play in a game for the first time in a long, long time. Allar has no pressure tonight. Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard should get some extended run. Dylan Cook will play but IMax is out. The Steelers can't play this like they did with Broderick Jones vs Dan Moore a few years ago. Lew Nichols could steal the show. Could Kaleb Johnson lose his spot? Daylen Everette and RSJ could get a chance to shine. We have suggestions for a new nickname for Austin. A caller wants more no-huddle. Another is excited about Rico Dowdle. A wrestling question is posed. The Pirates killed their season in a span of 2 weeks. Carmen Mlodzinski was bad again. Callers aren't happy about Don Kelly. We shout out Ryan Scarpino. Donny was at his alma mater this week and gave a speech to the team. Pirates fans trace the team's problems back to ownership. Will there be a lockout? We hear comments from Donny Kelly after last night. What was the downfall of the Pirates season? Elandon Roberts is back with the Steelers. The Wild Things have great promotions. What does Jeff Hathhorn predict of the Steelers' QB rotation. Will Lew Nichols have a moment tonight? The rookies in the secondary have a chance to state their case. What will everyone be talking about tomorrow?
Jeff said the media members at the facility were blindsided by the T.J. Watt injury. Cole Holcomb did well in run defense, but Malik Harrison has been their Elandon Roberts. Jeff would want to play Buffalo in the playoffs over the Texans, Chargers, or Jaguars.
Matthew Stafford and Jim Gray discuss how the Rams stay under the radar amidst their success, the routine that gives him longevity in the league, what it's like to play on Thanksgiving, their predictions for the Cowboys-Chiefs game, and who deserves the Hall of Excellence Award this week. Then, Maxx Crosby joins Jim to reflect on Shedeur Sanders' first start, his heated exchange with teammate Elandon Roberts on the sideline, and the Raiders firing Chip Kelly.
Paul Gutierrez is joined by James Jones and Cynthia Frelund to preview the Raiders' Week 5 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Then linebacker Elandon Roberts discusses Year 10, the defense and more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss what went wrong in the team's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Mistakes were made on both side of the ball, but it still felt like that's a game they typically win. What was different this time? What's the path forward for Kaleb Johnson? The Steelers moved on from Larry Ogunjobi and Donte Jackson and we're ok with it. Why did they let Elandon Roberts go? We were surprised by this and thinks keeping Roberts, the 5th best run defender at linebacker by PFF last year. Minkah Fitzpatrick subbed out for Juan Thornhill is a drop off, but by how much.
The Pirates will wear a jersey patch honoring Dave Parker for the remainder of the season. Jason is keeping his eyes on linebacker and the Steelers moving on from Elandon Roberts. He looked at safety and how Minkah's departure affects the secondary. Jason doesn't know what to think of Robert Woods and Roman Wilson. Can they be key pieces?

On their weekly podcast, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey react to the Steelers' offseason moves so far. How do moves for names like DK Metcalf, Kenneth Gainwell, Darius Slay and -- potentially -- Aaron Rodgers compare to GM Omar Khan's action in his first two seasons? Does this group compare well with the 2023 NFL free agency class that included Elandon Roberts, Larry Ogunjobi and Isaac Seumalo? Or the 2024 group that included Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Patrick Queen and DeShon Elliott? Will a lack of NFL draft picks naturally lead to a less bountiful offseason? And how should the stockpiling of compensatory picks for 2026 factor into this conversations? Later, the guys get into some college talk with Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia all stating spring practice. Are eyes on Drew Allar in Happy Valley as he looks to shake off a College Football Playoff loss to Notre Dame? Can he get the most out of a loaded roster that includes returnees such as Nick Singleton, Kaytron Allen and more? And are receiver transfers Devonte Ross and Kyron Hudson enough to help the passing game as it loses Tyler Warren to the NFL? In Morgantown, what kind of difference can the return of coach Rich Rodriguez make? And can Eli Holstein, Desmond Reid and the Panthers emerge from mediocrity? Our duo tackles those questions. Then in the third segment, airing on the PG Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason get into predictions for the Pirates and the MLB season. How many wins will manager Derek Shelton's club rack up? Can Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller and the pitching staff push them over the .500 mark? Or will the lineup led by Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds and Ke'Bryan Hayes continue to struggle like it has in years past? What should we make of Carmen Mlodzinski earning a rotation spot? How will the catching situation play out with Endy Rodriguez making the Opening Day roster and Henry Davis starting in Class AAA? And why haven't we hear from owner Bob Nutting this spring?

Steelers insider Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is joined by 93.7 The Fan's Austin Bechtold on the latest episode of Chipped Ham & Football to break down all things NFL free agency. Has GM Omar Khan made enough moves as of Tuesday, and is it now Aaron Rodgers or bust for Pittsburgh's starting QB spot in 2025? The guys discuss the new-look Steelers defense with Monday's signings of Malik Harrison and Darius Slay Jr., as well as the departure of veteran Elandon Roberts. They also touch on a possible Russell Wilson reunion and analyze the decisions of both trading for DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks and letting Justin Fields go to the New York Jets for a reported $30 million guaranteed and $40 million overall. Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the team losing Najee Harris, Elandon Roberts and James Daniels to free agency. The team also signed former Ravens LB Malik Harrison to presumably replace Elandon Roberts and also contribute on special teams. The team still doesn't have their QB signed for 2025, though it'll likely be one of Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson. Should the team instead be looking to swing a trade for Joe Milton, Malik Willis or potentially even Anthony Richardson? What have we made of the early portions of free agency for the Steelers and what do we make of Omar Khan's approach? Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this and more! On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to grade GM Omar Khan on his first two seasons of NFL draft picks and free agency signings. How much credit does he deserve for adding contributors including Joey Porter Jr., Zach Frazier, Keeanu Benton, Payton Wilson and Nick Herbig. Can first-round picks Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu still emerge as difference makers? And do the draft classes rely on them to be considered successes? On the free agency and trade front, how should we view moves for names including Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Patrick Queen, Donte Jackson, Larry Ogunjobi, Patrick Peterson, Elandon Roberts, Isaac Seumalo, DeShon Elliott, Van Jefferson and others? Did Khan hit on enough of those guys? Or did the additions end up leaving too much to be desired? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders how much help the offensive line may still need despite heavy investment in it the past couple of offseasons.
On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes Chris Mueller of 93.7 The Fan to ponder decisions GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin will have to make about personnel this offseason. With a specific focus on colleague Ray Fittipaldo's trade, cut or keep analysis on our website. Should Minkah Fitzpatrick and his lucrative contract return to the secondary after it struggled down the stretch? Did Patrick Queen live up to his expensive deal from last year in NFL free agency? And what should be done about George Pickens, who's created some headaches despite strong production? Our duo tackles the fate of those players and a few others including Cordarrelle Patterson, Cam Sutton, Elandon Roberts and Cole Holcomb.

July 2, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 150 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Tuesday episode, Alex Kozora and I start by talking about a recent post I did on new Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson and his deep passing performance last season as a member of the Denver Broncos. Alex recently posted a video about the play of Steelers ILB Elandon Roberts in 2023 so we go over his findings and he might fit into the 2024 defensive plans and especially if fellow ILB Cole Holcomb is fully healthy to start the regular season. Some early 2024 over/under rushing yardage lines are now out for Steelers running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren so Alex and I have a discussion about those odds and the expected output for each player this upcoming season. San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk made an appearance on the latest episode of The Pivot Podcast, so Alex and I discuss a few things he had to say during that interview. Alex and I then move forward to discuss the next nine players in my 90-In-30 series that has been running on the site for the last few weeks. The nine players we discussed late in this show are S Jalen Elliott, OT Troy Fautanu, DT Breiden Fehoko, QB Justin Fields, OL Joey Fisher, WR Dez Fitzpatrick, S Minkah Fitzpatrick, OC Zach Frazier, and TE Pat Freiermuth. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 93-minute episode, and we end it by answering several questions from listeners that we have received since last Friday. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
