On their weekly podcast, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey react to the Steelers' offseason moves so far. How do moves for names like DK Metcalf, Kenneth Gainwell, Darius Slay and -- potentially -- Aaron Rodgers compare to GM Omar Khan's action in his first two seasons? Does this group compare well with the 2023 NFL free agency class that included Elandon Roberts, Larry Ogunjobi and Isaac Seumalo? Or the 2024 group that included Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Patrick Queen and DeShon Elliott? Will a lack of NFL draft picks naturally lead to a less bountiful offseason? And how should the stockpiling of compensatory picks for 2026 factor into this conversations? Later, the guys get into some college talk with Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia all stating spring practice. Are eyes on Drew Allar in Happy Valley as he looks to shake off a College Football Playoff loss to Notre Dame? Can he get the most out of a loaded roster that includes returnees such as Nick Singleton, Kaytron Allen and more? And are receiver transfers Devonte Ross and Kyron Hudson enough to help the passing game as it loses Tyler Warren to the NFL? In Morgantown, what kind of difference can the return of coach Rich Rodriguez make? And can Eli Holstein, Desmond Reid and the Panthers emerge from mediocrity? Our duo tackles those questions. Then in the third segment, airing on the PG Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason get into predictions for the Pirates and the MLB season. How many wins will manager Derek Shelton's club rack up? Can Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller and the pitching staff push them over the .500 mark? Or will the lineup led by Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds and Ke'Bryan Hayes continue to struggle like it has in years past? What should we make of Carmen Mlodzinski earning a rotation spot? How will the catching situation play out with Endy Rodriguez making the Opening Day roster and Henry Davis starting in Class AAA? And why haven't we hear from owner Bob Nutting this spring?

Steelers insider Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is joined by 93.7 The Fan's Austin Bechtold on the latest episode of Chipped Ham & Football to break down all things NFL free agency. Has GM Omar Khan made enough moves as of Tuesday, and is it now Aaron Rodgers or bust for Pittsburgh's starting QB spot in 2025? The guys discuss the new-look Steelers defense with Monday's signings of Malik Harrison and Darius Slay Jr., as well as the departure of veteran Elandon Roberts. They also touch on a possible Russell Wilson reunion and analyze the decisions of both trading for DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks and letting Justin Fields go to the New York Jets for a reported $30 million guaranteed and $40 million overall. Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the team losing Najee Harris, Elandon Roberts and James Daniels to free agency. The team also signed former Ravens LB Malik Harrison to presumably replace Elandon Roberts and also contribute on special teams. The team still doesn't have their QB signed for 2025, though it'll likely be one of Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson. Should the team instead be looking to swing a trade for Joe Milton, Malik Willis or potentially even Anthony Richardson? What have we made of the early portions of free agency for the Steelers and what do we make of Omar Khan's approach? Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this and more! Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Will the Steelers get Justin Fields back? Ray does not think the door is shut on Russell Wilson and a lot of it depends on the fate of Fields. Ray said he wouldn't leave anything off the table. The Steelers had Tyler Shough in today for a pre-draft visit, but how much interest is actually there? Ray doesn't rule out an Elandon Roberts return, but thinks it would more of a luxury. Ray thinks the Steelers should be interested in DK Metcalf, but he does not see them giving up a 1st round pick. Ray doesn't see Najee Harris back and thinks he will make a few bucks on the open market. Ray predicted the Steelers will go after cornerback early in free agency.
Have the chickens come home to roost on Justin Fields to the Steelers due to his mid-season benching? There's reason for Fields to be skeptical of what the Steelers will do with him if he comes back. How much love is there between Mike Tomlin and Aaron Rodgers? An insider thinks there is definitely something between the two parties. Who is the best to trust when it comes to Steelers QB, the local or national writers? National guys won out last year. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. The Steelers have restructured the contract of Cole Holcomb, which means Elandon Roberts could be the man walking free. So, after allowing 300 yards rushing in a playoff loss, the Steelers are letting their best run stuffer walk in free agency. Roberts will also be a cheap get, so the hope is that he is not done with the Steelers. The Steelers are highlighting the leadership qualities from Holcomb even though Roberts showed plenty of that with the black & gold. A rumor that Najee Harris could be called by the Cowboys on Monday. Someone from the Steelers own website put something out there saying ‘Don't re-sign Najee!' with a graph showing how inefficient Harris is as a runner. There is also news out of Cincinnati that Trey Hendrickson has requested a trade. The Browns have restructured the Deshaun Watson deal yet again. Power Rankings.

On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to grade GM Omar Khan on his first two seasons of NFL draft picks and free agency signings. How much credit does he deserve for adding contributors including Joey Porter Jr., Zach Frazier, Keeanu Benton, Payton Wilson and Nick Herbig. Can first-round picks Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu still emerge as difference makers? And do the draft classes rely on them to be considered successes? On the free agency and trade front, how should we view moves for names including Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Patrick Queen, Donte Jackson, Larry Ogunjobi, Patrick Peterson, Elandon Roberts, Isaac Seumalo, DeShon Elliott, Van Jefferson and others? Did Khan hit on enough of those guys? Or did the additions end up leaving too much to be desired? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders how much help the offensive line may still need despite heavy investment in it the past couple of offseasons.
On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes Chris Mueller of 93.7 The Fan to ponder decisions GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin will have to make about personnel this offseason. With a specific focus on colleague Ray Fittipaldo's trade, cut or keep analysis on our website. Should Minkah Fitzpatrick and his lucrative contract return to the secondary after it struggled down the stretch? Did Patrick Queen live up to his expensive deal from last year in NFL free agency? And what should be done about George Pickens, who's created some headaches despite strong production? Our duo tackles the fate of those players and a few others including Cordarrelle Patterson, Cam Sutton, Elandon Roberts and Cole Holcomb.
Ray thinks the Steelers might pull a few tricks out of their hat to try and win the game. He believes Lamar will have a more Lamar-like game against the Steelers. Donny spoke to Elandon Roberts who said Patrick Queen is treating it like a regular game and Ray thinks Queen got it out of his system in the earlier matchup.

The Steelers must have thought George Pickens' hamstring wasn't that bad. Mark would keep Pickens out until the playoffs! Mark believes the collective group of receivers needs to step up and there isn't a true No. 2 or 3, but a group effort for this project. Elandon Roberts wants to stay for multiple years and retire a Steeler.
Tomlin Tidbits – Mike Tomlin was waxing poetic about Elandon Roberts.
The Steelers are about to endure 3 games in 11 days, but Mike Tomlin isn't worried about it. The 3 teams they play are all in the top 5 of Super Bowl favorites as of now. What should the expectations be for them in this stretch? What will happen against the Chiefs and how should that impact our thinking the rest of the way? If we're going to give Mike Tomlin a pass for losing games without George Pickens, why didn't he get them for losing playoff games? Tomlin Tidbits – Mike Tomlin was waxing poetic about Elandon Roberts.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the officiating we've seen around the NFL this season, but in particular, between the Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. From George Pickens getting thrown to the ground by his helmet to Elandon Roberts being offside and the call going on Cincinnati, to Orlando Brown leaving early before the snap over and over again to 100 pass interference penalties on both sides, the officials certainly became part of the story Sunday in Cincinnati. When both teams are complaining about the officials after the game, you know it's a problem. But what can be done, and why are things the way they are? Alan breaks it down Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss where the team is at compared to preseason expectations in terms of the QB, ILB and IDL spots. Have Russell Wilson and Justin Fields played at, above or below expectation? How do you feel like they will perform the rest of the way? The ILB room still hopes to get Cole Holcomb back in the fold to mix in with Elandon Roberts, Patrick Queen and Peyton Wilson. Has that group impressed you or been disappointing due to their lack of splash? What about the big boys up front? Cam Heyward certainly had his doubters at his age and coming off of injury. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether Mike Tomlin too frequently allows his teams to play down to their level of competition. The Steelers are facing a 2-5 New York Giants team on Monday Night Football that has scored just 10 points over their last two games. With Pittsburgh owning the No. 2 scoring defense in the league, it could be a bloodbath on that side of the ball. But remember last year, when the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots, two struggling three-win teams, came into Acrisure Stadium and earned victories? Elandon Roberts said on Wednesday that the team is focused on avoiding that outcome this time around. But in general, has that happened too frequently under Tomlin? Alan breaks it down Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Starkey highlights Evgeni Malkin's 500th goal and Sidney Crosby's 1,600th point in the same game as a monumental highlight in Pittsburgh sports. We're close to 20 years of Crosby, Malkin, and Letang together. Are Crosby, Malkin, and Letang the greatest trio in sports history? They've overcome adversity, have longevity, and have won championships together. Russell Wilson took first-team reps Wednesday and is trending toward starting against the Jets. If you're Justin Fields, what are you thinking? Steelers analyst Chris Hoke joined the show. Chris is curious to see how Russell Wilson will play this week, especially with Wilson being a more 'professional passer' than Justin Fields. Chris believes Fields made this decision easier for Mike Tomlin after the Raiders win due to some struggles, especially in the first half. He does not think this move proves that Justin Fields is no longer viewed as a long-term option. Elandon Roberts' forced fumble at the goal line is one of the wildest plays Starkey's ever seen and Hokie gives some context behind big hits he's experienced playing football. Chris Hoke likes the honesty displayed by Justin Fields today, admitting he hasn't played well enough. Chris enjoys the humility and Starkey thinks it's a good thing a Steelers QB is displaying this after Kenny Pickett's comments at the end of last season. Chris predicted a Steelers win in a 23-20 game. MVP of the game: Russell Wilson. Sean Meyers takes over for City Limits to produce the rest of the show. Justin Fields sounds a lot better than Kenny Pickett did when it comes to competition. We hear from Fields, and it sounds like the job was up for the taking if he played well enough. If they were 5-1 and Fields was playing great, would Russ still start? If this is Deal or No Deal, Tomlin wants to go for $1 million and not settle for $50K. Calls on the topic. If the Steelers are going all in this year, they should get a WR too. The Steelers need explosives in the pass game. Continuing on Fields' comments and calls on the topic. When was the last time a run-first QB won a Super Bowl? Quinnen Williams returning for the Jets could be scary for the Steelers. The tough part of the schedule is still to come, and the current level of play isn't good enough against them. Dalton Wasserman of PFF joins to discuss Justin Fields, the good grade for Najee Harris and hideous grade for Broderick Jones, Zach Frazier graded as nearly elite, James Daniels was playing at the highest level of his career, why Minkah still grades so high without creating turnovers, Cam Heyward is the best at his position thus far, Watt having maybe the best year of career, Joey Porter Jr is getting a very low grade. and so is Patrick Queen. who draws some concerns. Jeff Hathhorn joins to react to Fields' comments, what he would've needed to do to keep the job, the latest on injuries - Highsmith, Pruitt, his game prediction against the Jets. Reminiscing about Ron.
The Steelers put all their eggs in one basket to stop Dallas on the final play of the game. Elandon Roberts' forced fumble was incredible and would have gone down in Steelers history if the Steelers recovered. They came up short on 4th down to win at home.
Hour 2 with Joe Starkey and Bob Pompeani: The Steelers put all their eggs in one basket to stop Dallas on the final play of the game. Elandon Roberts' forced fumble was incredible. George Pickens has not been consistent this season and still hasn't caught a touchdown. We share if we're concerned about George Pickens.
The Steelers defensive letdown on Sunday gets compared to what we saw from the defenses in 2008 and 2010 – teams that only allowed 24+ points a few times. Who on the defense deserves the most blame from Sunday? There's some concern with Patrick Queen a few games in. Why didn't we see much of Elandon Roberts against a team that likes to run the football? There was also a shot taken by Chris Canty, who played for the Ravens at the end of his career, calling the Steelers frauds.

Vibe check! Stop Taylor and the Steelers should win. Richardson is so talented though. Will the Steelers/Colts be unwatchable because of the refs? A caller chimes in frustrated still with the offense. JPJ has been good, Broderick Jones had a bounce back game and it needs to continue. The Colts aren't loaded with stars. Freiermuth needs to have a breakout game. The Colts struggle to defend TEs. Steelers play multiple TEs a lot. PFF has a new stat...chip percentage. TJ Watt gets chipped the most. Dorin mentions Elandon Roberts comments about PFF ever being mentioned to him by coaches.

Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo recap Wednesday's eventful and scrappy Steelers training camp practice at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. What caused the practice-field fight making the rounds on social media? How were Elandon Roberts and Patrick Queen involved? What does it say about rookies Troy Fautanu and Mason McCormick that they stepped in to protect Justin Fields? And could that give the team a much needed jolt of energy as it continues through the daily grind of training camp?
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, Alan takes us through the Steelers second day in pads of 2024 training camp. A fight broke out when Elandon Roberts made contact with Justin Fields after a play. Rookies Troy Fautanu and Mason McCormick didn't take too kindly and a fight ensued. July 2, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 150 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Tuesday episode, Alex Kozora and I start by talking about a recent post I did on new Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson and his deep passing performance last season as a member of the Denver Broncos. Alex recently posted a video about the play of Steelers ILB Elandon Roberts in 2023 so we go over his findings and he might fit into the 2024 defensive plans and especially if fellow ILB Cole Holcomb is fully healthy to start the regular season. Some early 2024 over/under rushing yardage lines are now out for Steelers running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren so Alex and I have a discussion about those odds and the expected output for each player this upcoming season. San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk made an appearance on the latest episode of The Pivot Podcast, so Alex and I discuss a few things he had to say during that interview. Alex and I then move forward to discuss the next nine players in my 90-In-30 series that has been running on the site for the last few weeks. The nine players we discussed late in this show are S Jalen Elliott, OT Troy Fautanu, DT Breiden Fehoko, QB Justin Fields, OL Joey Fisher, WR Dez Fitzpatrick, S Minkah Fitzpatrick, OC Zach Frazier, and TE Pat Freiermuth. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 93-minute episode, and we end it by answering several questions from listeners that we have received since last Friday. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to recap the Steelers' picks on Day 2 of the NFL draft after they took Washington OT Troy Fautanu on Day 1. What kind of impact can second-round pick Zach Frazier make from Day 1 at the center position? Is third-rounder Roman Wilson ready to be the No. 2 opposite of George Pickens in new coordinator Arthur Smith's offense? What can fellow third-round pick Payton Wilson add to coach Mike Tomlin's linebacker corps alongside Patrick Queen, Elandon Roberts and possibly a healthy Cole Holcomb? And how much credit does GM Omar Khan deserve for waiting for these players to fall instead of trading up to get them? Our duo tackles those questions and more.

Meanwhile, AFC North looks on fire with the Steelers, Ravens and Cleveland Browns all playing strong late in the season. Is the AFC North the undisputed best division in football? Finally, what matchups are the biggest concern for both the Steelers and the Ravens? Kevin Oestreicher and Chris Carter discuss the potential of the Ravens resting their starting offensive line, and how that could lead to T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and the Steelers' defense feasting on Tyler Huntley and the Ravens' backfield if Baltimore isn't careful. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Josh Taylor of KDKA-TV and 93.7 The Fan.The Pittsburgh Steelers fired Matt Canada, as Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday. His replacement is running backs coach Eddie Faulkner, and his run focus approach, communication and organization skills could be what the Steelers need to help Kenny Pickett get back on track this season. While quarterback coach Mike Sullivan will call the plays, an offense based in the renewed strength of the offensive line, Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, can be just what the doctor ordered. Also, the Indianapolis Colts waived linebacker Shaquille Leonard, and the Steelers could use his help at a depleted linebacker position. Can Omar Khan bring Leonard in to pair with Elandon Roberts and boost the defense?CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com.The Pittsburgh Steelers' run game is working with Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris running behind Broderick Jones and a stronger offensive line. But Kenny Pickett and the passing offense still struggle. Can the run game save the passing offense and help it find its way back to being useful for the Steelers? Also, Chris Carter and Alan Saunders go over the Steelers' Stars and Skulls grades for their week 11 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Pickett and Dan Moore Jr. are among the worst grades, but look at how Warren and Elandon Roberts received very high marks, and why several players on the Steelers' defense are trending in the right direction.CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers lost 13-10 to the Cleveland Browns, and Kenny Pickett is running out of time to figure out the offense. It was another game when the passing offense looks uncoordinated. That's on Pickett, Matt Canada, and Mike Tomlin. But the Steelers' offense ran the ball better than any opponent had against the Browns all season as Jaylen Warren ran behind a line that created a lot of space on the ground, especially behind Broderick Jones. Is time running out for Pickett to figure it out with this offense? Also, Mike Tomlin continues to dodge the issue in the Steelers' press conferences, and won't call out Pickett or Canada for the offensive issues. Najee Harris seemed very frustrated with the offense, and it continues to look like Tomlin is trying to hide what the the problem is with the offense. Could that lead to an implosion of the Steelers' locker room? The defense looks good, and did enough for the Steelers to win. The Steelers' defense continues to trend upwards with Elandon Roberts playing well, Patrick Peterson coming around, and Keeanu Benton improving with the defensive line. Could that be the key for the Steelers to compete down the rest of the season for the AFC North? It might be, but the Steelers will still need Kenny Pickett to at least provide average offensive play.Chris Carter gives his analysis of the loss and the path forward.CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com.The Pittsburgh Steelers are now down two starting off-ball linebackers in Kwon Alexander and Cole Holcomb for the season. Elandon Roberts played very well at linebacker, but next to him will be Mark Robinson, a second year player who lacks the experience both Alexander and Holcomb brought. Could Minkah Fitzpatrick, Keanu Neal, and even Nick Herbig play a role in helping replace them? Also, Chris Carter and Alan Saunders go over the Stars and Skulls grades for the Steelers' Week 10 win over the Green Bay Packers. Top grades go to Broderick Jones, T.J. Watt, and some very good marks go to Patrick Peterson and Joey Porter Jr. in the seconary, but how did Kenny Pickett grade out?CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy.
