Is Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss a QB who should be on GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin's first-round radar? Or would he be a reach in that spot? And where do other QBs including Jalen Milroe of Alabama and Quinn Ewers of Texas belong in the conversation, as the team also weighs free agents including Justin Fields, Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers? Is Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins worthy of first-round consideration? Could cornerbacks including Denzel Burke, Darien Porter and Jahdae Brown make sense as defensive backfield options across from Joey Porter Jr.? Why is Notre Dame's Rylie Mills a name that keeps coming up in multi-round Steelers mocks? And what are Chris's thoughts on trendy first-round WR picks including Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka and Texas' Matthew Golden? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. He gives his thoughts on an analysis post by colleague Brian Batko on the rare examples of QBs like Justin Fields finding success with different teams than they were drafted by. Is Fields capable of following in the footsteps of names like Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield in getting the Steelers to the NFL playoffs after flaming out with the Bears? Or is he destined to be a draft bust like Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones? And how will coach Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan assess that unknown vs. bringing in proven veterans like Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers? Paul tackles those questions and more.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether the Steelers will be able to attract quality free agents. The fanbase has never been more down about Mike Tomlin's team than entering the 2025 season, but potential free agents aren't likely to look at things that way. Pittsburgh is a legendary NFL franchise, with a Hall of Fame-bound head coach, who is very popular, and they just made the playoffs despite having a 36-year-old Russell Wilson at quarterback. Fundamentally, the team isn't in any worse shape entering the season than it has been in any of the last five years, and while the fan frustration about that is understandable, that's not the lens potential free agents will be viewing the team through. On their weekly Thursday podcast, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey react to a busy week in Pittsburgh sports news. Are the Steelers rebuilding, as PG colleague Ray Fittipaldo has argued? Are Mike Tomlin and his coaching staff simply failing with a roster that's built to win? How should the answer to the rebuilding question inform their decision at QB between options including Justin Fields, Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers? Should stars like T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward or Minkah Fitzpatrick be traded if this team does not have serious hopes of Super Bowl contention? And where does the young offensive line, including names like Broderick Jones, Mason McCormick, Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier fit into this conversation? Our duo tackles those questions and also weighs in on some negative reaction to the announcement of next seasons Ireland game at Croke Park in Dublin. Then they tackles some 4 Nations Faceoff questions. Is this tournament involving Penguins standouts including Sidney Crosby, Mike Sullivan and Rickard Rakell compelling and worth watching? And is the event's marketing -- and the NHL's marketing at large -- too focused on Connor McDavid and the league's young stars? At the expense of Crosby and Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin? Then in the third segment, airing on the Post-Gazette's new Pirates channel, Adam and Jason ponder headlines from the first week of spring training in Bradenton. Who is more responsible for the team's disastrous MLB offseason: GM Ben Cherington or owner Bob Nutting? How much scorn do they deserve for the Spencer Horwitz injury situation, which has sidetracked one of the few key moves they did make? What should we make out Bryan Reynolds moving to right field, free agent Tommy Pham playing in left and Oneil Cruz continuing his transition from shortstop in center? Will this be a bad defensive group in totality? And is there reason for optimism about Ke'Bryan Hayes, as team and player express hope that they're better able to manage his chronic back issues?

Ryan Burr, who dropped the Trevor Lawrence rumor earlier today, joined the show. Ryan said he finds it amusing how quickly people pushed down his report from this morning since he has nothing to gain in the NFL business. Ryan said there is zero doubt in his mind that there was a phone call made by the Steelers to the Jags in regards to a Trevor Lawrence trade. Ryan said the Steelers are kicking the tires at every possible spot. Ryan brought up the fact that a lot of things in sports get leaked and will be immediately denied by the team. Ryan said it could have been a 5 second conversation, but even in that case, it's an inquiry. KDKA TV legend Bob Pompeani joined the show. Bob reacted to the Trevor Lawrence rumor and thinks it would only be smart to explore these avenues. Pomp thinks they should be looking for answers. Bob does think Mike Tomlin likes Lawrence and what he brings to the table, regardless of what he's done in Jacksonville. Power Rankings.
