Bobby Bones and Matt Cassel exchange some car stories before diving into the Broncos advancing without an injured Bo Nix. Matt explains how the team moves forward this week and has the opportunity to rally around Jarrett Stidham. Looking at the head coaching openings, who would be the ideal candidate for the Bills? Matt thinks it's a tough spot because of the immediate Super Bowl expectations. It's Conference Championship Playoff Weekend and the Patriots should feel confident against the Broncos. The Rams visit the Seahawks and Bobby explains why Matthew Stafford is the best QB left playing. Boston Globe Sr. NFL Writer Ben Volin will be in Denver to cover the Patriots. Ben notes the turnaround from New England after Mike Vrabel joined the team. How has Drake Maye established himself as the leader of this locker room? Ben was surprised by the Bills moving on from Sean McDermott because coaching wasn't their issue this season. What is the best candidate for Buffalo? Ben feels like the Seahawks have the advantage of rest against the Rams, but LA has been playing tough. Ben reveals his favorites for MVP this season, before Matt asks for Ben's favorite Tim Tebow story. With 4 QB's left, which one has the best 'story' if they won the Super Bowl? January 21, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 82 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the morning press conference that the Buffalo Bills ownership and front office conducted and some of the jaw-dropping comments that we could not ignore. Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl will reportedly interview with the Atlanta Falcons for their general manager position, so Alex and I make sure to hit on that news early in this show. The Steelers have signed a few more free agent players to Reserve/Future contracts since our last episode, so Alex and I run through that list. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have now hired former Steelers STC Danny Smith, so we make sure to give that bit of news some attention. We also discuss the possibility of S Miles Killebrew following Smith to Tampa Bay this coming offseason with him scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in March. With the Steelers' search for a new head coach now entering its second week, Alex and I discuss the latest concerning that topic. We go over the in-person meeting scheduled for this week with head coach candidates and whether the list of new prospects will grow any this week. Former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger released a new episode of his podcast on Tuesday and that show produced several talking points. We go over Roethlisberger's support for Mike McCarthy to be the Steelers' next head coach and his thoughts on how he thinks the Steelers should handle their quarterback position in 2026 and possibly even 2027. Alex and I have a lengthy discussion about McCarthy potentially being the Steelers next head coach and the pros and cons related to that. We discuss McCarthy's age, how much longer he would likely coach, and whether either of us would be happy if he ultimately gets the job. With Roethlisberger talking about the future of the quarterback position during his recent podcast episode, Alex and I discuss the possibility of QB Will Howard being the starter in Pittsburgh in 2026. We also discuss the possibility of the Steelers taking a hard look at Green Bay Packers QB Malik Willis in free agency this offseason. I make my thoughts known on Howard ultimately being the quarterback the Steelers decide to roll with for at least the 2026 season. Steelers DT Cameron Heyward addressed the departure of HC Mike Tomlin during his recent podcast episode, so Alex and I make sure to recap things he said on that topic. We also address what former Steelers RB Najee Harris said about Tomlin during his appearance on a podcast. This 106-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted above and we close things out by answering a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. RUNDOWN   Mitch and Hotshot Scott reflect on the chaos and anticipation surrounding a third Seahawks–Rams matchup, debating momentum, matchup fatigue, and why this NFC Championship feels destined to be a coin flip despite Seattle's recent dominance. But the segment segues into a January 19th birthday remembrances, including Jean Stapleton, Junior Seau, Walter Jones, and a celebration of Dolly Parton. Mitch and Hotshot Scott relive all three previous NFC Championship Games at Lumen Field, from the 2006 breakthrough to the Miracle in 2014, while setting the stage for a fourth rubber match between the Seahawks and Rams. The discussion centers on the emotional weight of the 12th Man flag tradition following Paul Allen's legacy and the uncertainty around whether Pete Carroll, Jody Allen, or another iconic Seahawk should raise it. Ray Roberts explains why the Seahawks' 41–6 demolition of the 49ers wasn't a surprise, pointing to a confident, physical offensive line and a run game that has fully found its identity. He breaks down Kenneth Walker's late-season burst, the unselfish blocking culture among receivers, and how Sam Darnold's oblique injury hasn't altered Seattle's winning formula. Mitch, Brady Henderson, and Jacson Bevens break down why the Seahawks enter the NFC Championship Game in a stronger position than either previous matchup with the Rams, pointing to rest, home-field advantage, and a run game that has fully come alive. They discuss Sam Darnold's oblique injury, the status of key injuries up front, Kenneth Walker's late-season surge, and how Seattle might better contain Puka Nacua this time around. Mitch and Puck break down the emotional roller coaster of the Rams–Bears game and why the Rams, not Chicago, have always been the Seahawks' true postseason threat. They debate quarterback advantages, Sean McVay's mastery of the Seahawks defense, and whether Seattle's dominant run game and home-field edge can neutralize Matthew Stafford. The conversation also veers into NFC Championship superstitions, the 12th Man flag dilemma, and whether it's too soon for Pete Carroll to make a symbolic return.   GUESTS   Ray Roberts | Former NFL offensive lineman and Seahawks analyst Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN Jacson Bevens | Writer, Cigar Thoughts Jason Puckett | (Pucksports) Seattle Sports Radio Host/Analyst   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Momentum, Memories, and Milestones — Seahawks–Rams III and a Walk Through January 19th History 18:58 | Three NFC Title Games, One Unanswered Question: Who Raises the 12th Man Flag This Time? 35:16 | GUEST: Ray Roberts; Ray Roberts Saw the Blowout Coming — Why the Seahawks Are Peaking at Exactly the Right Time 1:04:35 | GUEST: Seahawks No-Table; Seahawks–Rams Rubber Match Looms — Why Seattle Is Built for This Moment 1:27:02 | GUEST: Jason Puckett; Why the Rams Are the Seahawks' Real Problem — and Why This NFC Title Game Feels Inevitable 1:47:33 | Other Stuff Segment: Lil Jon halftime performance at Lumen Field, Seahawks home atmosphere and crowd energy, Little John diner in Bellevue/Issaquah, 2026 Seahawks outlook and salary cap space, Seahawks pending free agents (Kenneth Walker, Rashid Shaheed, Riq Woolen, Coby Bryant), Denver Broncos quarterback injury and Jarrett Stidham starting AFC Championship, college football playoff expansion debate (12 vs 16 vs 24 teams), Big Ten vs SEC power struggle, Mike Tomlin stepping down as Steelers head coach, Kyle Tucker signing with Dodgers, Dodgers vs Marlins payroll disparity, Mariners spending frustration, Arizona high school basketball player Adrian Stubbs scoring 100 points, KISS internal feud over "Beth" songwriting credit. The calls light the fuse on the coaching chaos: does John Harbaugh regret choosing the Giants now that the Bills job is open, and could Mike Tomlin ever wind up in Buffalo? Evan shuts that down fast, saying Harbaugh wanted the Giants job and knew the Bills opening could be coming if Buffalo lost. From there it turns into full “head coach bingo” for the Bills. The guys weigh big names like Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick, talk through why the mandate in Buffalo is Super Bowl or bust, and land on a prediction that actually makes too much sense: Brian Daboll. They dig into Daboll's history with Josh Allen, what Buffalo would need on defense, and why Giants fans should feel even better knowing Harbaugh chose New York before the Bills vacancy even hit the market.

Jason highlights the notable differences between the departures of Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh. Jason notes that Tomlin hasn't addressed the media expounding on his decision. He failed to lean into faith, which is a hallmark of his personality. Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II speculated that Tomlin's decision was probably more family-related than football-related, without explanation. The Athletic published an article highlighting the players' emotional response to Tomlin's announcement, with Aaron Rodgers and T.J. Watt in tears. Why were the players so taken aback? Did he feel disrespected by the Steelers hierarchy? Just as importantly, could it be because of persistent rumors of issues with his personal life that Tomlin has avoided media interaction? Two years ago, Caitlin Clark was making her WNBA debut. The league was garnering unprecedented media coverage, and TV ratings were soaring, with venues packed to watch Clark. Today, Clark has been minimized, the league is in a labor deadlock, Unrivaled first-week ratings tanked, and Jason claims this is just another matriarchal implosion. Coach J.B. joins Jason to talk about Tomlin's strange departure, the NFL playoffs, head coaching openings, and Lamar Jackson. Today's Sponsors: Relief Factor If you're living with daily aches and pain, Relief Factor might be the real deal for you too.
