The Carolina's Own crew continues its ACC football preview series with an in-depth look at the Pitt Panthers. The conversation begins with Pat Narduzzi's eleven-year tenure and the consistency he has brought to Pittsburgh, including an ACC Championship and a reputation for fielding some of the nation's toughest defenses. The guys examine Pitt's elite run defense, linebacker play, and the challenges the Panthers face generating pressure on opposing quarterbacks. On offense, the discussion centers around quarterback Mason Heintschel and his impressive freshman campaign. Ronnie, D-Block, and JD analyze whether Heintschel can take the next step in 2026, despite concerns about an offensive line that surrendered 44 sacks last season. The crew also evaluates Pitt's rushing attack, receiver room, and overall offensive ceiling heading into the season. The conversation expands into a broader discussion about modern college football, including NIL, transfer portal rules, roster building, player development, and whether college football should move toward multi-year player contracts. The hosts debate how today's environment compares to their own playing careers and what changes could improve the sport. The crew then makes game-by-game predictions for Pitt's 2026 schedule, debating whether the Panthers will finish above or below their projected win total. Finally, the show wraps up with a discussion about the recent gambling controversy involving Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, the challenges facing young athletes in today's environment, and how professional sports continue to handle gambling-related issues. Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson address the hypothetical where former Pitt men's basketball head coach Jamie Dixon would return to the team if current coach Jeff Capel no longer held the position.
Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt thinks the spring training record means something – something little – but it's a positive with a young team. Konnor Griffin has yet to draw a walk in spring training and there is some question regarding his patience at the plate – Matt thinks that's one of a few reasons the Pirates have right now to send him to Triple A. Matt, who is also the high school coach at Butler, got into some basketball questions as we enter match. He talked about coaching Ethan Morton in high school, who was one of the most-prolific scorers in PIAA history. Is it always the smartest thing to foul when you're up by 3 points late in the game?
A stunning development. We took calls regarding Jeff Capel and there was an unbelievable number of defenders in the listening audience. Poni can't believe there isn't a higher standard to a program that was once the hottest ticket in town.

Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown is sticking with Rickie Collins as his starting quarterback out of the Orange's bye week against Pittsburgh. Can Collins improve from generating nearly 19 points fewer against Power-Four competition for the Orange offense? According to Pro Football Focus, Collins has a turnover-worthy play percentage of 7.5 percent this season, which means that 7.5 percent of his drop backs this season have resulted in plays were likely to end in a turnover. That is the worst rate in the country among quarterbacks who have at least 100 drop backs this season. Despite playing in just four games and only starting two, Collins is tied for 19th in the country with five interceptions, according to PFF. Brent Axe discusses that and how Fran Brown handled a question about his name coming up for bigger jobs (in this case Penn State) at a recent press conference. Axe also chats with Chris Peak from Panther Lair to get a preview of the Pitt Panthers squad that comes to the JMA Dome on Saturday. Peak discusses how the Panthers made a significant quarterback change and how it has changed the trajectory of its season, the SU-Pitt series and what (if anything) SU can exploit in a matchup they come into as 10.5-point underdogs.
