In this clip from the Thursday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette insider Christopher Carter to react to the team's roster decisions at the wide receiver position. Have GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin closed the door on a move for an outside WR2? With names like Amari Cooper and Marquez Valdes-Scantling off the market and Gabe Davis still not getting an offer despite multiple visits to the team? Are Roman Wilson, Calvin Austin III and others enough behind DK Metcalf? Especially in the event of injury? How much can OC Arthur Smith's offense really rely on tight ends like Jonnu Smith, Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington in the passing game? And can 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers effectively distribute the ball to all of those targets? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of many teams interested in a trade for Jakobi Meyers. Jarrett Bailey explains why Omar Khan needs to pull it off. Plus, 12 players were cut on Monday and Jarrett goes through each one.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise weighs in on the hottest topics in Pittsburgh sports. Specifically, he gives his thoughts on a suggestion by ESPN's Bill Barnwell that the Steelers could trade for Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson after he lost a competition with Daniel Jones to start. Should GM Omar Khan really consider dealing for the 23-year-old, who's had mixed results so far, as a potential successor to Aaron Rodgers? Are internal options like Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and Will Howard preferable? Or should Khan focus on the 2026 NFL draft in Pittsburgh, that figures to include talented rookie options like Arch Manning, Drew Allar, Nico Iamaleava, Cade Klubnik and Garrett Nussmeier?
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the upcoming cut down to 53-man rosters on Tuesday, and whether general manager Omar Khan might trade away some players instead of releasing them to the waiver wire. The team appears to have surpluses of NFL-caliber players at quarterback, kicker and punter, running back and along the defensive line. Can Khan work his magic again and bring in more draft capital, or even better, a wide receiver? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
KDKA TV's Bob Pompeani joined the show. Bob thinks the Steelers could go into the season with the WR room as it is, but isn't ruling out Omar Khan making a move as roster cuts take place. Pomp said he wanted to see the combo of DK Metcalf and George Pickens this season, but it wasn't meant to be. Would Alec Pierce be a good fit in Pittsburgh? Bob speculated how much of the starters we would see tonight, including the potential first look at Jalen Ramsey in a Steelers uniform. Who is getting cut? Bob thinks Connor Heyward is on the bubble, but expects the team to find a spot for him. Bob talked about some of the intriguing battles that will conclude soon. Will Kaleb Johnson be on the field at the same time as the starting offensive line tonight? The guys asked Bob about preparation for the preseason games.
With multiple WR trades taking place in the last 24 hours – and a third if you go back 72 hours, should the Steelers be active in the market? A new name has risen up – Alec Pierce from the Colts. Pierce could be on his way out in a pretty crowded room in Indy. If it took a 4th round pick or a 4th round pick and a middling player, would you make the deal for the guy that led the league in yards per reception last season? The guys had Jason react to the Bubba Chandler promotion and beginning his Major League career out of the bullpen. Jason described the reasoning behind letting Chandler pitch in a relief role before starting. Is there a sense that Andrew McCutchen is not a fan of Ben Cherington? Jason mentioned Cutch may not be doing himself any favors by ripping Bob Nutting a little bit. Do we think the decision has always been made on Cherington's future with about a month to go in the season? The guys asked Jason about some comments made by Tommy Pham off the cuff.

ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi is surprised the Cam Heyward and Chris Boswell stories popped up so late into the offseason. Aditi isn't too entrenched in the situation, so she didn't want to comment too much on it. Poni pointed out how the Steelers don't put incentives into contracts. Poni and Aditi pondered if Omar Khan would give an honest answer about the situation if they had him on the air right now. Aditi has Eagles-Browns this weekend, so she talked about the injury to Shedeur Sanders after a terrific preseason debut. Where will Kenny Pickett be on the Browns depth chart when the season starts?
The Steelers will play their only home preseason game tomorrow night and Poni is wondering how fans will treat Cam Heyward once he runs out of the tunnel. Would it be outlandish for people to boo? On the Tuesday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette sports columnist welcomes insider Ray Fittipaldo to react to Cam Heyward's comments about his contract dispute with the Steelers. Did Heyward have valid critiques of dealing with GM Omar Khan's front office, a year after signing a contract extension? Why don't his comments seem to have helped his favorability among fans? And will he find a resolution that prevents him from missing regular season games? Later, the guys analyze the preseason victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars and what it tells us about the offense. Specifically, they discuss how valuable Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu can be if they're both healthy and playing well at tackle this season; the encouraging contributions of receivers including Roman Wilson and Scotty Miller; and the importance of quick throws from QBs Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and, eventually, Aaron Rodgers. They also give their thoughts on the overall roster depth and small offseason improvements that may have been overshadowed by big moves for Rodgers, Jonnu Smith, DK Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey.

Austin is dealing with a minor abdominal injury that is not expected to cause him to miss regular season playing time. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to a report that DL Cam Heyward is holding in at Steelers training camp in pursuit of a restructured contract. Does the defensive captain deserve a new deal after signing an extension just a year ago? Especially at his advanced age for his position of 36? Should GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin be devoting even more resources to their defense, which also includes highly paid stars like Jalen Ramsey and T.J. Watt? And how should other deals signed around the NFL factor into these conversations? Paul weighs in on those questions, plus Tomlin's list of players that will be held out of the preseason opener Saturday against the Jaguars. Should younger names like Joey Porter Jr. and Nick Herbig be available? What about newer veterans like Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith? And when should we see those players this preseason, if at all?
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. He gives his thoughts on whether Steelers GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin have cultivated enough depth this offseason. Yes, they made aggressive moves for big veteran names like Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith and DK Metcalf to surround existing stars like T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward and Joey Porter Jr. But is the next layer of talent enough to compete with the best in the NFL? Later, he weighs in on the Pirates' latest home win against the San Francisco Giants and the momentum they've built the past couple of weeks despite an MLB trade deadline that disappointed many fans.
93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. How are things beginning to shake out at WR2 for the Steelers? The guys asked Jeff about his chat with Arthur Smith. Jeff explained why tackle could always be in the future for Darnell Washington, but it's definitely too late to do it for this season. Is Broderick Jones really struggling to the level that we are all hearing? Jeff doesn't think a Terry McLaurin trade is likely, but he said it is hard calling anything is impossible under Omar Khan. Is Will Howard the most-hyped 6th round pick of all-time? Jeff said the offense has been a little concerning, but the offensive line has only been fully together for one day of padded practices.

Today, it's whether or not the Steelers could land Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has formally requested a trade amid a contract dispute. McLaurin is seeking a contract in the same range as the one that Omar Khan gave to DK Metcalf earlier this offseason. Would that be something Khan would do, or could afford under the salary cap? In this NBN episode, host Hollay Ghadery chats with the wonderful Saad Omar Khan about his debut novel, Drinking the Ocean (Wolsak & Wynn, 2025). The day after his thirty-third birthday, Murad spots a familiar face at a crowded intersection in downtown Toronto. Shocked, he stands silently as Sofi, a woman he'd fallen in love with almost a decade ago, walks by holding the hand of a small child. Murad turns and descends the subway steps to return home to his wife as the past washes over him and he is taken back to the first time they met. Moving between Lahore, London and Toronto, Drinking the Ocean is a story of connections lost and found and of the many kinds of love that shape a life, whether familial, romantic or spiritual. As Murad's and Sofi's lives touch and separate, we see them encounter challenges with relationships, family and God, and struggle with the complexities facing Muslims in the West. With compassion and elegance, Saad Omar Khan delicately illuminates the arcs of these two haunted lives, moved by fate and by love, as they absorb the impact of their personal spiritual journeys Saad Omar Khan was born in the United Arab Emirates to Pakistani parents and lived in the Philippines, Hong Kong and South Korea before immigrating to Canada. Post-Gazette insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo recap report day for Steelers training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They explain why there's a "new team" energy T.J. Watt spoke of around coach Mike Tomlin's group this summer, following the offseason acquisition of names like Aaron Rodgers, Jonnu Smith, Jalen Ramsey and DK Metcalf by GM Omar Khan. Plus the draft selection of names like Derrick Harmon, Kaleb Johnson, Jack Sawyer and Yaha Black. Then later, the guys look ahead to what can be expected in the first day of practice on Wednesday, when fans will get their first look at Rodgers in a Steelers uniform.
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark defended his take that the Steelers had a ‘perfect' offseason. Mark said they, mostly, accomplished everything they wanted to do. Mark gave his reaction to the TJ Watt signing and how the Steelers avoided 4-5 guaranteed years. Mark looked at this deal versus the one Myles Garrett received from the Browns. Mark thinks the Steelers can get ahead of things this season with Watt, even though he doesn't think a holdout would have impacted Watt's production. Mark said moving Watt around on defense will be a key to furthering his longevity. More w/ Mark – Mark believes the TJ Watt ankle injury was worse than what we were hearing late in the season, which impacted him heavily down the stretch. The conversation again went to Watt moving around the defense and how that could lead to a big 2025. Mark doesn't care for the narrative that Watt isn't healthy enough because he's only missed significant time in one season. More w/ Mark – After the ‘perfect' offseason, Mark gave some of his expectations for the season. Will we see a few key players take a step up on the defensive side? Mark still has questions, but likes the talent a lot on the outside. Mark doesn't think Omar Khan is done making moves and still believes safety will be addressed.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to react to the hot topics in Pittsburgh sports this week. Should Steelers GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin make an exception to their rule of not negotiating contracts with players during training camp and into the season when it comes to T.J. Watt? Or should they stick to their guns as he reportedly seeks a contract that would take him to his age 36 season? Is there still time to trade him? And would that defeat the purpose of signing veterans like Aaron Rodgers and trading for names like DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith? And are there any lessons we can learn from the Le'Veon Bell contract holdout close to a decade ago? Our duo tackles those questions, then talks some hockey. What should we make of Penguins GM Kyle Dubas' moves so far this NHL offseason? Does the deal for goalie Arturs Silovs signal big moves coming with Tristan Jarry and/or Erik Karlsson? Should the team tank for a chance to draft Gavin McKenna? Or give Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang a chance for one more Stanley Cup run together? And what should we make of reports that Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle are looking to re-assume ownership of the club? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Then in the third segment, airing on the PG's Pirates YouTube channel, the guys tackle the hot topics surrounding the club this week. Should GM Ben Cherington be allowed to trade big names like Mitch Keller, Bryan Reynolds and Ke'Bryan Hayes while his future is in question? Or should Bob Nutting limit his options for deals to players on expiring contracts like Tommy Pham, Andrew Heaney and Isiah Kiner-Falefa? What should we make of Reynolds' continued struggles? Was Seth Hernandez a good top pick in the MLB draft? Where does Oneil Cruz go from here after his MLB Home Run Derby performance? And how seriously should we take Konnor Griffin as a prospect?

Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news and breaks down why he believes the Pittsburgh Steelers and T.J. Watt are currently playing a game of high-stakes chicken with his deal. Will Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan listen to trade offers from division rivals like the Baltimore Ravens over the next two months, or will they eventually make Watt the highest-paid defensive player in the league above the Cleveland Browns' Myles Garrett? Lastly, Paul dives into more Steelers offseason talk and upcoming training camp thoughts before talking about the slumping Pirates' much-needed MLB All-Star Week break and what it means for Paul Skenes, Oneil Cruz and company. Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news and analyzes whether the Steelers are legit postseason contenders ahead of the 2025 NFL regular season. Paul breaks down why he believes this is the best Steelers team on both sides of the ball since Pittsburgh had Ben Roethlisberger in 2017. Do the additions of Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith, among others, make this team a threat to win the AFC North and actually win a playoff game come winter? Conversely, will the losses of Minkah Fitzpatrick and Najee Harris negate the additions Mike Tomlin, Omar Khan and company made this offseason? July 4, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 156 of the Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday Fourth of July episode, Josh Carney and Alex Kozora discuss the three-year contract extension Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan received yesterday. We discuss the busy offseason Khan and the organization has had and wonder the status of Assistant GM Andy Weidl, too. Josh and I talk about why Khan received his extension, too. Josh shares his thoughts on Monday's mega-deal that sent FS Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins in return for CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith, and a 2027 Day Three pick swap. Josh weighs in if he likes the move and the impact Pittsburgh's aggressive offseason could have on 2025's results. We discuss why Fitzpatrick was dealt and what Ramsey's role on the defense could look like. Josh also shares the free agent addition he'd like to see Pittsburgh make. We briefly discuss the Steelers' Malibu workout that took place earlier this week. Several pass-catchers joined QB Aaron Rodgers in California for at least one practice and we offer our thoughts on how much it will help ahead of training camp. Finishing out our beat writer offseason reviews this week, Browns Zone's Scott Petrak joins myself to recap the Cleveland Browns past few months. We discuss the reason why Cleveland drafted DL Mason Graham in the first round, why the team moved up for QB Shedeur Sanders, and who has the edge in the team's up-for-grabs quarterback battle. We also discuss expectations for the Browns this season and the future of head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry. Be sure to follow Scott here, @ScottPetrak. And thank him for joining us today. This roughly 65-minute episode also covers a few other topics not mentioned above, including the topic of sports betting and the negative impacts felt across sports. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
