Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how large the Steelers need at cornerback is entering the 2025 NFL Draft. Through free agency, Omar Khan has taken two steps to fill in the gaps left behind when Cam Sutton and Donte Jackson departed, bringing in veteran former Philadelphia Eagles starting outside cornerback Darius Slay and ex-New York Jets two-way corner and special teamer Brandin Echols. So Echols can replace Sutton, Slay can replace Jackson, and call it day? Probably not. Slay is 34 and is a short-term solution. Echols, while projects to be a better fit inside, struggled while playing outside cornerback with the Jets. The stop-gap signings will give incumbent depth options like Cory Trice and Beanie Bishop another chance to win a job. But there's no reason they couldn't add a rookie to that mix as well, especially if someone like Michigan's Will Johnson falls to them. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. On their weekly Steelers NFL mock draft tracker video, host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette Steelers insider Christopher Carter analyze the week in projected picks for the team from around the Internet and the impact NFL free agency is having on them. -Should the Steelers still be considering Day 1 WR targets including Emeka Egbuka, Luther Burden III and Matthew Golden? Or did the DK Metcalf trade fill the need at that position alongside names like George Pickens, Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson? -What do the Steelers need in a defensive tackle after choosing not to address the spot in free agency? Are they all in on great run-pass combos like Derrick Harmon and Kenneth Grant? Or will they look at more specialized names like Darius Alexander? -Where could they choose a QB after missing out on younger free agents like Justin Fields and Sam Darnold? Is Jaxson Dart on Day 1 a live option? Or should projected later-round picks like Will Howard still be their focus at this position? How does the signing of Kenneth Gainwell affect plans for the RB room? Will they bring in a big name like Ashton Jeanty or Omarion Hampton? Or are their later-round names to watch who could make sense in a committee with Gainwell and Jaylen Warren? -And will GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin consider drafting a CB early? Or are the Steelers finally well stocked at that spot after signing Darius Slay and Brandin Echols to a group that already included Joey Porter Jr., Cory Trice Jr. and Beanie Bishop?
New Steelers CB Brandin Echols speaks to reporters at his introduction. He explains how he hopes to fit in a defensive backfield that includes names like Joey Porter Jr., Darius Slay, Cory Trice Jr. and Beanie Bishop; the versatility he hopes to show to coaches including Mike Tomlin and DC Teryl Austin; and his hopes to start after joining the team via the New York Jets in NFL free agency.
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the team bringing back QB Mason Rudolph on a two-year contract and what it could mean. Is this strictly a move for a backup or could Mason be in line to start if conversations with Aaron Rodgers don't lead to a deal? The team introduced newcomers Kenny Gainwell, Brandin Echols, Malik Harrison, Darius Slay and DK Metcalf to the media today. What did we learn from them and how they are going to fit in? Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this and more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
. Jeff is on the South Side as the Steelers are announcing some of their new players. Former Jets corner Brandin Echols talked about how he was at first skeptical of Aaron Rodgers, but ended up liking him and is a fun guy. The Steelers are waiting for Rodgers to make a decision and Jeff thinks the Steelers have something in place with Mason if they need him.
We talked about a few things on the Aaron Rodgers docket from yesterday, which included him getting photographed on the beach and ordering clothing from a Pittsburgh based website. Brandin Echols, one of the newest Steelers, wants Rodgers to join the team. More calls on the Steelers QB situation. Power Rankings.

The New League Year is here. The Steelers have signed Brandin Echols to add to their cornerback depth. There is a report that Russell Wilson is visiting the Cleveland Browns. It sounds like Russ is taking a whole tour and may be willing to play for pennies yet again. What will the Steelers do if they end up with neither old QB?

ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi is stunned by the news of Russell Wilson visiting the Browns. She said the Browns will give Kenny Pickett a chance to start in Cleveland. Aditi doesn't think there are more than 4 people on earth that know what Aaron Rodgers will decide. Aditi thinks there is definite interest from the Steelers for Rodgers, but isn't sure if the cost would keep them away. If it doesn't work out with Rodgers, what is the Steelers Plan B? Donny Football Debrief – The Steelers have officially signed Darius Slay. 2 corners added today.

What was once looking to be a promising season, has turned into a monstrous disappointment yet again. Instead of controlling our own playoff destiny, we're now dependent on various outcomes for a shot at the final tourney after losing 5 straight. Skylar Thompson gets the nod this week against the Jets, can he lead Miami to a playoff appearance?!Game Recap: Miami Dolphins 21, New England Patriots 23Gotta Love ItThe game plan was great, leaning on Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. worked wonderfully for most of the game. The defense overall was better, but only because of who the opponent was. While the scoreboard says 23, the defense only allowed 17 of the points.Elandon Roberts had a day, consistently showing up on defense and special teams.Hate to See ItWe could put a wooden toy player out there and they'd play better than Eric Rowe.Teddy Bridgewater makes me long for the return of Jacoby Brissett. The injuries keep on piling up… the offensive line, defensive backfield, and QB room are decimated.Final ThoughtsWe've lost 5-straight with no real answer in sight. This was an extremely winnable game, marred by penalties and undisciplined play, but even that was overshadowed by the embarrassing performances of the Quarterbacks.Game Preview: 8-8 Miami Dolphins vs. 7-9 New York JetsPlayoff UpdateMiami needs to win and the New England Patriots need to lose to the Buffalo Bills for the Dolphins to clinch the final AFC Playoff spot. BLEAV In Jets Podcast hosts Andrew Golden of Jets-X-Factor and former Jet running back LaMont Jordan review the last game of the season for the New York Jets, a hard-fought loss to the Bills with most of New York's starting offense out of the game. The offensive struggles looked worse on the stat sheet than they did on the game film, and fans should still be optimistic despite the unsavory outcome (01:00). Defensively, the Jets did enough to keep the game close early and deserves praise, especially rookie cornerback Brandin Echols for following Bills' receiver Stefon Diggs (03:45). After the Jets review, the pair turns their attention to the playoffs by giving their predictions for the entire postseason (09:45). Finally, LaMont gives his first-hand take on how players handle the start of the offseason (48:00).
