Dijo que... lo había movido... el afán de difundir la palabra de Cristo; de que todos, hasta los que el “mundo” en su frivolidad y los “sabios” en su insensatez califican como los más pequeños, tuvieran la oportunidad de conocer el ejemplo del gran Maestro, de imitarlo y de salvarse.»1 Así cuenta la renombrada escritora mexicana Rosario Castellanos la historia de un traductor bíblico en uno de los cuentos que componen su obra titulada Ciudad real, que se publicó en 1960. Lo cierto es que el desenlace de esa historia ficticia habría de plasmarse en la vida real cuarenta y seis años más tarde, cuando terminó de traducirse la Biblia al idioma tzeltal de Bachajón. El 25 de noviembre de 2006, en la población de Ocosingo, Chiapas, México, se llevó a cabo la presentación de esa Biblia traducida para los indígenas de la zona e impresa en versión bilingüe con el español. Según el informe de José López en labibliaweb.com, «once años de intenso trabajo por parte de traductores de las Sociedades Bíblicas Unidas, misioneros y pastores de iglesias tzeltales vieron su culminación cuando se reunieron más de cuatro mil personas... para, al fin, recibir la Palabra de Dios en un idioma que pueden entender.... »El licenciado Luis Enrique Pérez Bedolla, director de Ministros de Culto... de la Secretaría de Gobernación del país, señaló que era un gran logro para las iglesias de la localidad, e igualmente para la cultura e historia de los chiapanecos.... »Una coral de ciento diez voces, vestida de sus trajes típicos, entonó himnos en su propia lengua para gozo de todos.... »Al final, se veían muy contentos los pastores que llevaban las cajas con su valioso libro para ser usado inmediatamente. »La alegría de todos los que estuvimos presentes —comenta el periodista López— se veía reflejada en una hermosa realidad que repitieron más de una vez: “Ahora Dios también habla tzeltal de Bachajón.” »Sí, gracias al esfuerzo de traductores, misioneros [y] pastores indígenas... —concluye López—, Dios habla, cada vez más, las lenguas de nuestros pueblos.»2 Ya que Dios así ha dispuesto hablarnos, dispongámonos también nosotros, al igual que aquellos pastores indígenas y sus feligreses, a escuchar alegres su voz mediante la lectura de la Biblia que otros se han esforzado por poner en nuestras manos.
