Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how the change from Russell Wilson to Aaron Rodgers will change the way offensive coordinator Arthur Smith goes about his business. The relationship between Smith and Wilson had famously deteriorated by the end of the 2024 season, with stories leaking in the media about Smith restricting his ability to make changes to plays at the line of scrimmage. Will things be different with Rodgers under center in 2025? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
June 17 – Ep. 60: On this episode of The Depot Dive, Ross McCorkle and Alex Kozora kick things off with a discussion on DeShon Elliott's extension and what it means for the secondary and the defense overall. Next, we discuss some of the positive reports about the running back room coming out of spring practices. How will the division of labor be divided between Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson? And how does Kenneth Gainwell fit into that equation? For the third topic, we discuss Arthur Smith's "wishbone" comments and what that might mean for the direction of the offense overall. Will Aaron Rodgers' history or Smith's history hold more weight? We also discuss what that might mean for Roman Wilson's role with everything else going on with the offense. To wrap things up, we answer a listener question about Zach Frazier's potential after a great rookie season. On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo recap the team's minicamp at its South Side facility this week. What did we ultimately learn about Aaron Rodgers upon his arrival in Pittsburgh? What should we make of him not practicing with the team? What kind of impact is DK Metcalf making on the passing game? And how will both players shape Arthur Smith's offense in the year ahead? Our duo tackles those questions, then give their thoughts on T.J. Watt's absence, the looming risk of a training camp holdout and the 2023 NFL draft class -- led by Joey Porter Jr., Broderick Jones, Keeanu Benton and Nick Herbig -- starting to step into leadership roles for the team.

Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray shared his initial impressions of Aaron Rodgers, and what changes (if any) Arthur Smith could make to suit Rodgers' strengths. Ray doesn't see too many differences in watching Rodgers vs Mason Rudolph right now. He also notes to be on the lookout for Calvin Austin III to potentially become the WR2. Regarding T.J. Watt, Ray thinks a deal with Watt and the team will eventually get done. Ray says undrafted TE JJ Galbreath has stood out a little so far.

On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko react to the team's first day of minicamp at its South Side facility. What should we make of Aaron Rodgers' first comments since signing last weekend? Particularly his view of himself as a "servant leader." Can he really make a difference in the locker room? Particularly for young players like Will Howard? And how is he fitting into Arthur Smith's offense alongside names like DK Metcalf, Jaylen Warren, Calvin Austin III, Kaleb Johnson and Pat Freiermuth? Our duo tackles those questions; T.J. Watt's absence from the scene as he searches for a new contract; and news that Derrick Harmon has already seized a starting spot along the defensive line next to Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton. What does that mean for his upside as a rookie?
Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Brian Batko and Ray Fittipaldo report from the second day of the team's minicamp at its South Side facility. They recap Arthur Smith's press conference. What did Smith have to say about the popular notion that he and Russell Wilson didn't get along late last season due to Smith not allowing his quarterback to change plays at the line of scrimmage? How does he plan to utilize new weapons like Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf, going so far as to say they didn't bring those guys in to run the wishbone? The guys tackle those questions, then take a deeper look at the offense in general. What will Rodgers' wide receivers look like behind Metcalf. Will Roman Wilson or Calvin Austin III take over that WR2 spot? Or will the Steelers add another receiver via free agency or trade, like Allen Lazard or Keenan Allen? Will the offensive line, including Troy Fautanu and Broderick Jones, be able to step up and protect the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer?
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss if Will Howard's destiny is stamped as a backup following the arrival of Aaron Rodgers, which team has the greatest all-time roster, why fans are pressing the panic button over the TJ Watt contract discussions, Aaron Rodgers' fit with Arthur Smith and if the team is really in the market for Jaire Alexander or Jalen Ramsey. Rodgers and Tom Arth have known each other for 20 years and Rodgers has known Arthur Smith for a while. We hear from Steelers fans on Aaron Rodgers. BREAKING: Mario Lemieux, David Morehouse and Ron Burkle are looking to buy back the Penguins from Fenway Sports Group. We can't help but think this is great news considering the success the team has had under their watch. What could have them coming back in from a business perspective? We also had audio from Arthur Smith and how he sees the marriage going with Aaron Rodgers. The guys did credit some of the realness with Rodgers that we didn't see with Russell Wilson as QB1. How much control will Rodgers have in-game with audibles that we haven't seen for a Steelers QB in quite some time? ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi said Aaron Rodgers is not a statue and can still move around a bit as he gets back more from his Achilles tear. Aditi thinks the time for Rodgers in Green Bay had expired and run its course, which explained his mediocre final season there. She believes Rodgers will clearly give better QB play than Russell Wilson last season. The guys questioned Aditi on why she wanted Justin Fields in Pittsburgh instead of Rodgers. Aditi pushed back at Poni and said not everything is black or white the way he portrays. Why did some of the things for Rodgers with the Jets go so poorly? Aditi quickly said ‘pay the man' when the conversation turned to TJ Watt. She thinks any conversation to trade him is ridiculous for how much he's given to the team. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike reacted to Aaron Rodgers signing and now practicing with the Steelers, and how weird it looks to him. Mike said the mission is clear with the Steelers and hopefully it involves more than just a single playoff win. Mike doesn't think Rodgers wanted his career to end the way things did in New York. He thinks just getting to the playoffs for Rodgers is a success. Mike pointed out a couple of things that made him realize Rodgers had some trouble finding a new team. What happens if this doesn't work out? Mike felt like he's been corrupted by Poni's tweeting habits. Is Mike Tomlin still making chicken salad out of chicken you-know-what?
QB Aaron Rodgers speaks to reporters for the first time since signing with the Steelers over the weekend. He explains how he's assimilating to OC Arthur Smith's offense; meshing with near weapons that include DK Metcalf, Pat Freiermuth, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson; and his thoughts on playing for coach Mike Tomlin after years of admiration from afar.

They touch on his relationship with Mike Tomlin, his role as a mentor, and his commitment to learning the Steelers playbook. On the Friday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko react to the team's signing of QB Aaron Rodgers, which finally became official on Thursday. Does OC Arthur Smith have the secret to unlocking the former NFL MVP's full potential? Does he have enough weapons to work with in the form of receivers DK Metcalf, Cavlin Austin III, Roman Wilson; tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington; and running backs Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson? Or will the team still need to add outside names, possibility including Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper? How much sway will Rodgers hold in the organization? Will Smith defer to him in playcalling? Will coach Mike Tomlin include his thoughts in the game plan? And will he have GM Omar Khan's ear regarding possible roster moves? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders whether this team now has what it needs to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens to compete atop the AFC.
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. The guys broke down the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers that finally happened. How much better does he make the Steelers? Poni called out Mark for thinking Russell Wilson was also the answer last season. What will Rodgers do differently? Mark thinks the addition of someone like Keenan Allen makes them a threat to win the AFC North. More w/ Mark – Should the Steelers call the Falcons about Kyle Pitts? It didn't work for him when Arthur Smith was the Falcons head coach, so would it work if he's the Steelers offensive coordinator? Mark says the idea of trading for Terry McLaurin is the Brandon Aiyuk saga all over again. More w/ Mark – Is Aaron Rodgers still going to appear on the Pat McAfee Show every week? Poni wanted a review of the ‘Next Up on The Fan' from last night. What if Rodgers never happened and Mason Rudolph ran the show for the full season? Will Rodgers throw for 30 TDs next season?
On the Wednesday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo react to persisting rumors that the team may be interested in trading for TE Jonnu Smith. Does Smith really fit on a team that already has Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington? How would OC Arthur Smith deploy a trio of talented TEs? Would it help compensate for the lack of a clear No. 2 receiver behind DK Metcalf? What would GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin have to give up in a possible trade? And how would his game mesh with QBs Mason Rudolph Will Howard and -- possibly -- Aaron Rodgers? Our duo tackles those questions; Minkah Fitzpatrick's leadership role that's shown through at OTAs; and Cole Holcomb's return from injury to an ILB mix that includes Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how presumptive starting quarterback Mason Rudolph has looked so far at OTAs. It's a reasonable question, with the quarterback returning to the Black and Gold after one year way in Tennessee, but coming to a new offensive scheme under Arthur Smith. But when talking about a player with as much NFL experience as Rudolph, especially one whose biggest issues in live NFL game-play have come when under the kind of pressure and duress that simply won't be replicated in the practice setting of OTAs, well his performance at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex doesn't really mean that much. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Russ coached with Arthur Smith at Tennessee and Smith likes to run the ball.
Andy and Randy hit the NFL No Huddle as they break down some of the bigger news and stories going on in the league right now.
On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Brian Batko and Christopher Carter react to the end of a busy week of OTAs for coach Mike Tomlin's team. Did Alex Highsmith drop hints about T.J. Watt's contract extension talks? Will that deal get done soon? Or could it drag into the summer as talks with Pat Freiermuth and Cam Heyward did last year? In segment two, the guys ponder the upside Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay Jr. has a top cornerback pairing. And in the final segment, the Brian and Chris digest a brand new trade rumor linking the Steelers to tight end Jonnu Smith. Would he be a good addition to Arthur Smith's offense alongside Freiermuth and Darnell Washington? Or should the Steelers stick with what the have?
The Steelers have had discussions with the Miami Dolphins about a Jonnu Smith trade. Would Jonnu Smith fit in the Arthur Smith offense? Would you trade Ke'Bryan Hayes? Should the Steelers have traded Mike Tomlin? Can the Pens trade Erik Karlsson?
Hour 1 with Joe Starkey and Austin Bechtold (behind the glass): The Steelers have had discussions with the Miami Dolphins about a Jonnu Smith trade. Would Jonnu Smith fit in the Arthur Smith offense? Would you trade Ke'Bryan Hayes? Can the Pens trade Erik Karlsson? Would you trade T.J. Watt?
BREAKING NEWS: The Steelers are reportedly interested in trading for Jonnu Smith, the Dolphins TE, that had a career year in 2024. Man, does Arthur Smith love his tight ends? Smith and Smith worked together in Tennessee, which is where their connection sparks.
KDKA TV's Bob Pompeani joined the show. Fresh off the golf course, Pomp reacted to the Jonnu Smith report. Does that make sense for the Steelers? The guys asked Pomp the last time he got moved to tears. Pomp talked about dancing with both of his daughters at their weddings. Pomp gave his marriage advice. Bob said he's not very into movies these days. Bob will not be the big show tonight in town. Power Rankings.
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark told us about his days on the Pirates beat. Instead of telling us if a guy was a bad guy, he just called them ‘interesting.' Mark said there is “no way” Aaron Rodgers was coming out of a Strip District hotel this morning. Mark took a guess at when Rodgers is here. Mark chatted with Mason Rudolph earlier this week, but Mason couldn't say for sure when Rodgers is showing up – they are all just assuming. We also spent some time talking about the Harry Callas political run that fell just shy of a chair seat in Green Tree. More w/ Mark – Mark reacted to Booger McFarland claiming the Steelers are ‘taking years' off the life of their defense. Mark does not think the veterans are upset with Mason Rudolph or will be upset with him if he ends up being the QB. He said the team should be upset at the succession plan since Ben Roethlisberger retired. Mark said we haven't seen Mason work with Arthur Smith or his offense – and added that Aaron Rodgers would want a lot of control. Would Smith have preferred Justin Fields at QB? Mark isn't worried about Cam Heyward or TJ Watt sitting out any practices. More w/ Mark – Poni asked Mark why he was looking up Donny's highlights earlier this week. Does Mark buy into any of the conspiracy theories that Joe Rogan may have talked to Aaron Rodgers about? Did Mark have any other tea on George Pickens following his departure?
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and his ability to mentor the team's next quarterback. The Steelers have a plan to trade up to draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, finally addressing the position after several missteps in the aftermath of the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. But is Smith the right guy for the job to develop a rookie quarterback? It's not anything he's ever done before in his two seasons as Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator and three as Atlanta Falcons head coach, but there are some reasons to think that Smith will be capable of molding a talented passer, especially his success in resurrecting the careers of Ryan Tannehill and Justin Fields. So can Smith be the Steelers' quarterback whisperer? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
May 20 – Ep. 56: On this episode of The Depot Dive, Ross McCorkle and Joe Clark kick things off by discussing some comments made by former Steelers QB Charlie Batch. They debate his opinion about Mason Rudolph potentially gaining an edge over Aaron Rodgers if he waits too long to sign. We talk about that opinion as well as some things said by his biographer at the end of last week. For the second topic, we discuss Mason Rudolph's interview on Kaboly + Mack where he talks about the QB depth chart, getting acclimated to Arthur Smith's offense and more. Finally, we discuss the annual media projections of the Steelers having their first losing season under Mike Tomlin and why that is unlikely to happen regardless of who is at quarterback. Charlie Batch told our buddy Arthur Moats that he thinks Mason Rudolph could have an edge at starting quarterback over Aaron Rodgers. Really? We had some theories about why he would say it. Is this another nudge by the Steelers to get Rodgers to sign soon? The guys talked about Brett Favre playing his cards late in his career and making many people play the guessing game. Poni isn't convinced ‘a lot of people (with the Steelers)' want Rodgers. There was then a ranking of who Arthur Smith may have wanted at QB and how he hasn't had a chance to stand up to Mike Tomlin about his quarterback decisions. There was a discussion about the offense with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson last season and how things changed or stayed the same. How will battles go between Rodgers and Tomlin? Another national voice telling us that Mike Tomlin would have a job in 5 seconds if the Steelers fired him. That has us asking – so what? Donny Football Debrief – Some rule changes will be voted upon this week, including the playoff seeding rule change that doesn't guarantee a home game for division winners.

May 6 – Ep. 54: On this episode of The Depot Dive, Joe Clark and Ross McCorkle kick things off by talking about Arthur Smith admitting that he had to pivot his offensive scheme last year to fit the personnel. We discuss how different the offense might look in 2025 and the various reasons why. For the next topic, we discuss the high level of hype surrounding sixth-round QB Will Howard. How or when will he get his opportunity, and why did he slide to the sixth round? We grapple with all of those questions and more. For the third topic, we talk about some of the top things to watch at Rookie Minicamp this upcoming weekend including drafted rookies, undrafted free agents and tryout players.
