On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko to ponder which returning players are under the most pressure when training camp begins next week at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They start with the offense. Is Broderick Jones under real pressure right now? Or does the lack of competition at tackle give him a longer runway to prove himself? How will Jaylen Warren cope with names including Kaleb Johnson, Kenneth Gainwell and Trey Sermon jockeying for carries in the backfield? Does Roman Wilson need to show he can be a contributor in the receiving corps next to DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin III? And are Cordarrelle Patterson and Connor Heyward fighting for their jobs? On defense, Is Beanie Bishop in trouble following the move for Jalen Ramsey? Have DeMarvin Leal and Isaiahh Loudermilk run out of time to prove they deserve rotational spots on the defensive line? Are Cole Holcomb and Mark Robinson fighting for one roster spot? And do Patrick Queen and Keeanu Benton need to do more to live up to lofty expectations? Our duo tackles those questions, plus the challenges facing coach Mike Tomlin and coordinators Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin.

The Steelers offensive line needs to hold up for Aaron Rodgers. Nick thinks they are the key to the Steelers' success and could get them 10-11 wins. The Steelers need to give Rodgers some freedom at the line. Arthur Smith coached with Matt LaFleur and can use similar plays. There could be 4-5 first round quarterbacks next year and the Steelers have to be ok with trading their 2027 first round pick.

On a special Thursday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko joins host Adam Bittner to analyze the team's receiving options following the acquisition of Jonnu Smith. Will OC Arthur Smith use the tight end more as a WR2 behind DK Metcalf? Given that Smith put up big receiving options last year with the Miami Dolphins? How will his presence impact the target share for guys like Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods? And can we put talk of signing free agents like Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, Gabe Davis and Allen Lazard to rest with Smith in the fold? In the second segment, the guys talk safety options. Could GM Omar Khan try to sign one before training camp, with names like Justin Simmons, Julian Blackmon and Marcus Williams still available via NFL free agency? How much will Jalen Ramsey himself fill the void left by Minkah Fitzpatrick? What are reasonable expectations for Juan Thornhill? And what happens to the safety group if DeShon Elliott gets hurt. Our duo tackles those topics, plus some quick-hitters in the third segment. Have the Steelers really been doing things much differently under Khan? Or have they been more aggressive for a while now without perceptions of them keeping u[? Will Aaron Rodgers get any benefit from working with his receivers this week in Malibu, Calif.? And what should fans want to hear from Ramsey at his introduction?
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the team giving GM Omar Khan a new three-year contract extension, moving DeShon Elliott to FS, where the team is at in terms of QB proofing their offense and if Arthur Smith could find himself back in head coaching conversations if the Steelers offense takes the strides they can. Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss all this! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how the trade to acquire tight end Jonnu Smith has continued an offseason-long trend of catering to the personality and scheme of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith -- putting the pressure on him to increase the performance of his offense. The Steelers acquired Smith, making him the third former Smith protege on the current roster, joining Cordarrelle Patterson and Scotty Miller. In addition to players that have played for Smith before, the Steelers have also made moves to help better fit his scheme, grabbing Aaron Rodgers instead of Russell Wilson and drafting Kaleb Johnson instead of keeping Najee Harris. Smith did a good job last year in his first season as the Steelers offensive coordinator, but the unprecedented level of service to his scheme and personality fit this offseason definitely ramps up the pressure to be an above-average offense in 2025. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes long-time Miami-area radio host and podcaster Orlando Alzugaray to react to the blockbuster deal between Pittsburgh and the Miami Dolphins, in which they exchanged CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith and S Minkah Fitzpatrick. Was the deal mutually beneficial? Or just Miami's way of unloading its problems? Could a change of scenery help Ramsey as he joins a secondary that already includes Joey Porter Jr., Darius Slay Jr. and DeShon Elliott? And will Arthur Smith be able to further unlock his new tight end's potential? Especially given the lack of proven receiver options beyond DK Metcalf that includes Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin III? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
This week on LeatherBrainz, we dive into one of the wildest offseasons in recent memory: blockbuster trades, tight end summer camps, surprising retirements, and yes… Aaron Rodgers is still out here getting inspired by work ethic?? Come on in — it's brainz time.
Jonnu Smith is on the move again! The veteran tight end has been traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers, reuniting with former coach Arthur Smith and adding another wrinkle to Pittsburgh's evolving offense. What does this mean for the fantasy football landscape in 2025, especially for the Dolphins? Is Tyreek Hill, De'Von Achane, and Tua Tagovailoa stock up? How about Aaron Rodgers now under center for the Steelers? We break down how Jonnu fits into this new-look Steelers offense, his potential fantasy value, and whether he can emerge as a reliable TE sleeper or streaming option. The Pittsburgh Steelers just turned the NFL upside down by robbing the Miami Dolphins blind in a blockbuster trade. Jalen Ramsey joins a stacked Steelers secondary that now looks downright illegal alongside Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay. Jonnu Smith links back up with Arthur Smith to give Aaron Rodgers another weapon in the two-TE heavy system—meanwhile, Minkah Fitzpatrick's fall-off finally caught up to him. The Dolphins lost their best corner and most underrated offensive mismatch… for a safety who hasn't scared anyone in two seasons. JT has a very strong take on who just got exposed in this trade—don't miss it.

Ray Fittipaldo joins the show to talk Aaron Rodgers' comments on Pat McAfee yesterday, the respect players across the league have for Mike Tomlin, the leaders on the Steelers roster, who will benefit most from Rodgers being Pittsburgh's QB, if this will be Arthur Smith's last season as the Steelers' OC, if the Steelers will add another wide receiver, and more!

"Would you bet your company's last $5,000 on a hand of blackjack?"That's exactly what Fred Smith—the founder of FedEx—did in 1973. And in this episode of The Ben and Skin Show, Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray unpack the jaw-dropping story of how one man's Vegas gamble saved a now-$50 billion company. The FedEx Origin Story You Won't BelieveKT shares the legendary tale of Fred Smith flying to Vegas with FedEx's last $5,000—and returning with $27,000 after a blackjack hot streak that literally saved the company.Plus, it turns out Fred Smith's son is none other than Arthur Smith, former Falcons head coach and current Steelers OC. “Tough year for Arthur—his dad died, and now he's gotta deal with Aaron Rodgers.”
Aaron Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show that ‘this (year) is probably it' for his NFL career. Chris was oddly optimistic about all of this because it sounded like Rodgers was being a real straight-shooter this time. What went wrong between Arthur Smith and Russell Wilson last season? Chris said the working relationship between himself and the OC is the big question mark going into the season. But it was obvious to us that what Rodgers said today and how he has come across so far with the Steelers is a lot more legitimate than anything we heard with Wilson. If it's his final act, Chris thinks this could work out.

Will this year with Aaron Rodgers be better than the combo of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields from last season? Why were things so bad in New York for Rodgers? One caller doesn't think we see a lot of Rodgers this season.

Brian Batko joins the show to talk about his beer of choice, the passing of Arthur Smith's dad, how the Steelers offense will adjust to Aaron Rodgers, if the running game will be improved or not this year, what we can expect from Pat Freiermuth this year, where things stand with Broderick Jones and Derrick Harmon, when a TJ Watt deal could get done, if Brian is in the Shaler Hall of Fame, Brian's internship at The Fan, and more!
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's how the change from Russell Wilson to Aaron Rodgers will change the way offensive coordinator Arthur Smith goes about his business. The relationship between Smith and Wilson had famously deteriorated by the end of the 2024 season, with stories leaking in the media about Smith restricting his ability to make changes to plays at the line of scrimmage. Will things be different with Rodgers under center in 2025? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
June 17 – Ep. 60: On this episode of The Depot Dive, Ross McCorkle and Alex Kozora kick things off with a discussion on DeShon Elliott's extension and what it means for the secondary and the defense overall. Next, we discuss some of the positive reports about the running back room coming out of spring practices. How will the division of labor be divided between Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson? And how does Kenneth Gainwell fit into that equation? For the third topic, we discuss Arthur Smith's "wishbone" comments and what that might mean for the direction of the offense overall. Will Aaron Rodgers' history or Smith's history hold more weight? We also discuss what that might mean for Roman Wilson's role with everything else going on with the offense. To wrap things up, we answer a listener question about Zach Frazier's potential after a great rookie season. On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo recap the team's minicamp at its South Side facility this week. What did we ultimately learn about Aaron Rodgers upon his arrival in Pittsburgh? What should we make of him not practicing with the team? What kind of impact is DK Metcalf making on the passing game? And how will both players shape Arthur Smith's offense in the year ahead? Our duo tackles those questions, then give their thoughts on T.J. Watt's absence, the looming risk of a training camp holdout and the 2023 NFL draft class -- led by Joey Porter Jr., Broderick Jones, Keeanu Benton and Nick Herbig -- starting to step into leadership roles for the team.

Watt, Ray thinks a deal with Watt and the team will eventually get done. Ray says undrafted TE JJ Galbreath has stood out a little so far.

On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko react to the team's first day of minicamp at its South Side facility. What should we make of Aaron Rodgers' first comments since signing last weekend? Particularly his view of himself as a "servant leader." Can he really make a difference in the locker room? Particularly for young players like Will Howard? And how is he fitting into Arthur Smith's offense alongside names like DK Metcalf, Jaylen Warren, Calvin Austin III, Kaleb Johnson and Pat Freiermuth? Our duo tackles those questions; T.J. Watt's absence from the scene as he searches for a new contract; and news that Derrick Harmon has already seized a starting spot along the defensive line next to Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton. What does that mean for his upside as a rookie?
Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Brian Batko and Ray Fittipaldo report from the second day of the team's minicamp at its South Side facility. They recap Arthur Smith's press conference. What did Smith have to say about the popular notion that he and Russell Wilson didn't get along late last season due to Smith not allowing his quarterback to change plays at the line of scrimmage? How does he plan to utilize new weapons like Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf, going so far as to say they didn't bring those guys in to run the wishbone? The guys tackle those questions, then take a deeper look at the offense in general. What will Rodgers' wide receivers look like behind Metcalf. Will Roman Wilson or Calvin Austin III take over that WR2 spot? Or will the Steelers add another receiver via free agency or trade, like Allen Lazard or Keenan Allen? Will the offensive line, including Troy Fautanu and Broderick Jones, be able to step up and protect the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer?
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss if Will Howard's destiny is stamped as a backup following the arrival of Aaron Rodgers, which team has the greatest all-time roster, why fans are pressing the panic button over the TJ Watt contract discussions, Aaron Rodgers' fit with Arthur Smith and if the team is really in the market for Jaire Alexander or Jalen Ramsey. Rodgers and Tom Arth have known each other for 20 years and Rodgers has known Arthur Smith for a while. We hear from Steelers fans on Aaron Rodgers. Jeff Patton of Baseball Card Castle joined the show for Starkey's Card of the Week.
BREAKING: Mario Lemieux, David Morehouse and Ron Burkle are looking to buy back the Penguins from Fenway Sports Group. We can't help but think this is great news considering the success the team has had under their watch. What could have them coming back in from a business perspective? We also had audio from Arthur Smith and how he sees the marriage going with Aaron Rodgers. The guys did credit some of the realness with Rodgers that we didn't see with Russell Wilson as QB1. How much control will Rodgers have in-game with audibles that we haven't seen for a Steelers QB in quite some time? ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi said Aaron Rodgers is not a statue and can still move around a bit as he gets back more from his Achilles tear. Aditi thinks the time for Rodgers in Green Bay had expired and run its course, which explained his mediocre final season there. She believes Rodgers will clearly give better QB play than Russell Wilson last season. The guys questioned Aditi on why she wanted Justin Fields in Pittsburgh instead of Rodgers. Aditi pushed back at Poni and said not everything is black or white the way he portrays. Why did some of the things for Rodgers with the Jets go so poorly? Aditi quickly said ‘pay the man' when the conversation turned to TJ Watt. She thinks any conversation to trade him is ridiculous for how much he's given to the team. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike reacted to Aaron Rodgers signing and now practicing with the Steelers, and how weird it looks to him. Mike said the mission is clear with the Steelers and hopefully it involves more than just a single playoff win. Mike doesn't think Rodgers wanted his career to end the way things did in New York. He thinks just getting to the playoffs for Rodgers is a success. Mike pointed out a couple of things that made him realize Rodgers had some trouble finding a new team. What happens if this doesn't work out? Mike felt like he's been corrupted by Poni's tweeting habits. Is Mike Tomlin still making chicken salad out of chicken you-know-what?
QB Aaron Rodgers speaks to reporters for the first time since signing with the Steelers over the weekend. He explains how he's assimilating to OC Arthur Smith's offense; meshing with near weapons that include DK Metcalf, Pat Freiermuth, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson; and his thoughts on playing for coach Mike Tomlin after years of admiration from afar.

On the Friday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko react to the team's signing of QB Aaron Rodgers, which finally became official on Thursday. Does OC Arthur Smith have the secret to unlocking the former NFL MVP's full potential? Does he have enough weapons to work with in the form of receivers DK Metcalf, Cavlin Austin III, Roman Wilson; tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington; and running backs Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson? Or will the team still need to add outside names, possibility including Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper? How much sway will Rodgers hold in the organization? Will Smith defer to him in playcalling? Will coach Mike Tomlin include his thoughts in the game plan? And will he have GM Omar Khan's ear regarding possible roster moves? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders whether this team now has what it needs to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens to compete atop the AFC.
