We're back with the last Superfluous episode of 2019! Dan talks for a bit about the play The Iceman Cometh, as well as the terrible movie The Snowman. Sam talks about the hypnic jerk, a sleep phenomenon that actually happens pretty often. We also open a box of goodies that we received from Geeks Who Drink, and we close out with a brief recap of the infamous Peloton ad. Sam and Dan are back for Episode 12, and the winning streak continues! This week, we went to Ayesha Curry and Michael Mina's International Smoke.  We wanted to see what all the fuss was about.  Spoiler alert: the food was decidedly food; burger was decent but overpriced, and it's a bit of a schlep to get to from our part of town. Dan starts his topic by talking about a tiny subatomic particle called quarks, but there's not a lot of trivia there unless you have a huge amount of physics knowledge, so the discussion pivots to a different topic from a different trivia night.  Ever heard of "Cuffing" season?  It's that time of year where fall turns to winter and millennials start tying themselves to their dating partners just to have a plus-one to the office Christmas party.  We dive into that and more as we explore millennial dating culture. Sam's topic is a best-selling novel called "Where the Crawdad's Sing."  The topic itself was not all that interesting but we found it amusing that we had it right as a joke but decided to go with a more serious-sounding fill-in-the-blank answer.  The book spent 30+ weeks at the top of the New York Times bestseller list, thanks to Reese Witherspoon (which was surprisingly difficult to pronunce today). RIP Whataburger and Schlitterbahn.

Sam and Dan are back for Episode 11. We went to trivia at our normal Little Woodrows, and we had some trouble finding topics for this episode. That is because we finally won!Dan starts off by talking about the group Buckner and Garcia, who sang Pac-Man Fever...and nothing else. We go into detail about how popular arcade games were in the early 80s, as well as their massive decline in the mid-80s.Sam talks about the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration (yes it is really called that) and the discovery of the South Pole by Roald Amundsen (NOT Ernest Shackleton), who became quite the worldwide celebrity. To wrap up the show, we talk about the Netflix show Santa Clarita Diet a band named Minor League, and; we use their song 'This Is Hectic' to close out the show. Thanks again for listening, and make sure to tell your friends and check out our Twitter! @Superfluous_Pod

Sam and Dan are back for episode 10 of Superfluous. Normally we would have some banter before our topics, but we skipped that since each of us had a lot to talk about.Dan starts by talking about the Paper Plane, a whiskey cocktail with aperol, then goes on to talk about The Great Aperol Spritz Debate of 2019. Not knowing anything about it beforehand. we mostly talk about the popularity of spritzes in general, the customary time to drink spritzes, and the exact formula if you want to experiment with spritzes at home. Sam talks about perhaps the most famous Worlds Fair, which took place in 1893 in Chicago. Sam mentions the famous exhibits and attendees, including Helen Keller and H.H. Holmes. We each could have gone into way more detail, but we decided to keep the episode at a tight 40 minutes. For an outro song, we are using "Danger. High Voltage' by Electric Six. You've probably never heard it before, but trust us, you'll be into it.  Make sure to like and listen. and Dont forget: #spritzlife

Sam and Dan are back for episode 9! We went to our usual spot, Darwins, and this time around, we met Joseph from Old Humble Distillery, a distillery in Humble, TX. We came in second place, and lost out to first by only one point. Shocker, I know.Dan's topic starts off with oil; the back of Old Humble Distillery's bottle mentioned Wildcat drillers, so I discuss their importance in the oil industry. I also go on a quick tangent about the movie Bernie. Sam talks about the Domesday Book, which is pronounced 'doomsday', and isn't nearly as apocalyptic as it sounds. We close out with music by Folk Family Revival. Remember to listen and share, and also make sure to visit Old Humble Distillery on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as well as at 311 N Houston Ave in Humble.

Sam and Dan are back for Episode 8. This time around, the format is a little different. We have a quick intro, then we go to trivia and get a topic there instead of coming with a topic prepared. Yet again, we come in second place at Darwins. The idea of this episode came from the Comedy Central show Drunk History, so Sam talks about the Marine Mammals Exemption, which is an very narrow law limiting the sale of beer in Texas.Dan decided to have some good Galveston beer or two before talking at length about Dean Corrll, a serial killer active in the Heights that many people don't seem to know about. He killed more than 25 people, and we talk about his life and the different locations he lived at...many of which are close to our neighborhood! Not much as far as plugs go, Dan mention the tv show New Girl, and Sam mentions Whiskey Cavalier. Also, we're working on something special for the next episode, so be sure to be on the lookout in April. As always, please like us on Facebook, and share the podcast with your friends!

Sam and Dan are back for Episode 7 of Superfluous! Yet again, we come up short; this time, by only one point. This was a special trivia benefiting Undies for Everyone, a local Houston charity. After talking about a DC movie that we refuse to acknowledge, I talk about Dionne Warwick, a 60s soul singer that released a huge single for AIDS research. She also worked on the Psychic Friends Network, one of the 90s most popular party lines that ran into some legal trouble in 2002. Sam has two topics this time around. First up is the pirate William Kidd (not the bandit Billy the Kid), who Dan briefly thought was related to Jason Kidd. Next Frank Zappa and his interesting choices for his childrens' names. As the episode winds down, Sam talks again about his favorite Netflix show, The Kominsky Method. Dan talks about Binging with Babish, a Youtube channel with food recipes from tv and movies. Dan again talks about Undies for Everyone and the important work they do. We close out the show with another song we got wrong, 'Bizzare Love Triangle' by New Order.
