Earlier this year, Jimmy Eat World unveiled the 25th anniversary tour of Bleed American — a landmark album that wrapped their sophisticated, heartfelt storytelling in giant hooks and polished production. Before their headlining run kicks off next week, the frontman stopped by the Artist Friendly studio to discuss the right way to finish a song, growing up in the '90s, and their ability to fit anywhere. “I don't know how, but we've definitely done tours where it's like nine ska bands and us or eight hardcore bands and us,” Adkins tells Madden. “Somehow we don't get chased out of the room.” ------- Listen to their Artist Friendly conversation on Spotify. ------- Follow Artist Friendly! The 2021 EP "These Distractions Are Constant" introduced Box Elder's raw, confessional approach to indie rock. But the self-titled debut LP, arriving April 3, 2026, marks the project's true arrival. For the first time, Box Elder is a full collaborative effort, with each band member contributing to the sound and vision. The result is an album that maintains Archuleta's emotional core while expanding the sonic palette in exciting new directions. These songs don't shy away from difficult territory. The album directly confronts mental health struggles, charting the highs and lows of anxiety, the weight of lost love, and the persistent fear of never quite finding where you belong. Four years of experiences are distilled into urgent, melodic anthems that balance vulnerability with resilience. Drawing influence from The Get Up Kids, Jimmy Eat World, The Menzingers, The Wonder Years, and Silversun Pickups, Box Elder crafts guitar-driven songs that hit with both emotional and sonic impact.Archuleta took on production duties himself for the LP, his first major self-recording undertaking. The learning curve was steep, but the result speaks for itself, an album that captures raw intimacy without sacrificing clarity or power. The striking cover artwork by Stella Vickland-Davis features mannequin pieces controlled by box elder bugs, a visual metaphor the band had always envisioned: the small, unseen forces that guide us through uncertain times.Box Elder has built their reputation through relentless touring and memorable performances. Highlights include appearances at Treefort Music Festival 2023 and Denver Underground Music Showcase 2025, multiple west coast tours, and support slots with Agent Orange and Black Lips. In May/June 2026, they'll embark on their first east coast tour with MK Naomi, bringing these songs to new audiences. After fifteen years of making music, this LP represents Archuleta's most complete artistic statement. It's proof that Box Elder has found their voice, and their place. Thanks for listening!!! Please Follow us on Instagram @hiddentracks99Pre and Post roll music brought to you by @sleepcyclespa

"It's been a slow burn. It's not like a commemoration of a time that we blew up... It's just an album that became more successful later on." Microwave sits down with Brian and Lizzie at the Salt Shed during their Much Love 10-Year Anniversary Tour. The band dives into their slow-burn rise to success following the 2022 Story So Far tour, the hilarious reality of crashing in Hot Mulligan's dorm lobby, and why they relate more to Jimmy Eat World than Midwest emo. Plus, rapid-fire reviews of new releases from The Maine, Enter Shikari, Bilmuri, and more.   Microwave is in the hot seat this week as Brian and Lizzie sit down with Nathan, Tyler, Tito, and Luke live from the Salt Shed to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of Much Love. Despite what their Wikipedia page says, the guys aren't actually influenced by Midwest emo, and they break down tracing their true sound back to Jimmy Eat World rather than Cap'n Jazz. They discuss what it has been like to watch Much Love explode in popularity after their 2022 run with The Story So Far, validating their slow-burn success in the scene. The band also reminisces about the unglamorous realities of early DIY touring, highlighted by a hilarious 2016 story where they slept on the floor of a freshman dorm lobby while Hot Mulligan's roommate vacuumed around them. Following the interview, Lizzie gets sassy as she and Brian dive into rapid-fire reviews of the latest tracks dropping ahead of the spring and summer tours, sharing their unfiltered thoughts on new music from The Maine, Bilmuri, Enter Shikari, and more.    "In 2016 on The Wonder Years tour, we stayed at Chris from Hot Mulligan's freshman dorm. We assumed it was like a house, and we showed up and were sleeping in the lobby. I woke up to somebody just vacuuming right next to me." "We weren't robbed of any of the experiences of developing a band. Some people, their s*** blows up when they're eighteen, and then they have the pressure of having to follow that up and do something just as good immediately." "We kinda got grouped in with bands that are more directly influenced by Cap'n Jazz and American Football and Midwest emo. Our influence is more like Jimmy Eat World type stuff." JOIN THE CLUB! Brian argues that while fans want My Chemical Romance, the price tag might be impossible for the tour to sustain. Plus, we tackle the internet's favorite argument: Gatekeeping. We look back at being "called emo" in 2005 vs. 2026, and why the term "Midwest Emo" might just be a weather pattern rather than a genre. Whether you were in the pit in 2005 or discovered the scene on TikTok, this episode covers the past, present, and future of pop punk.   "I think that a lot of people argue about what emo is because they're trying to protect their own identity as part of it." "I think what happens in the Midwest is generally more influential on emo music than what happens on the coasts." "Realistically, I'm like, Warped Tour cannot afford My Chemical Romance. We talk about her unconventional path into music, from late nights working at a recording studio to catching the attention of Pete Wentz and signing to his label. CARR also reflects on life on the road, touring with Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat World, and more, and how live performance continues to shape her songwriting. The Emo Cult: Forbidden Church Of The 2000s

For a generation who felt like outsiders in the late 2000s, the emo scene felt like the one place where they could belong—and make sense of the chaos inside, as their favorite artists began to express the pain they held within their hearts: As Bert McCracken of The Used once said, “Music is church, therapy, and philosophy all wrapped up into one.” And that's exactly what this scene became. From the explosive confessions of “Take It Away” to Panic! at the Disco pacing the church aisles in “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” from Hayley Williams of Paramore shouting “The truth never set me free—so I'll do it myself” to My Chemical Romance singing revenge, resurrection, and spiritual crisis across Three Cheers—emo wasn't afraid to rip open the human heart and let everything spill out. But what was quickly learned was that many who saw this as therapy could also take it to a place of no return. After 13-year-old Hannah Bond chose to delete herself, emo became Public Enemy Number 1. In 2008, the Daily Mail fired the headline heard around the globe: “Why No Child Is Safe from the Sinister Cult of Emo.” Suddenly, a culture built for struggling youth was being shown as something dark and dangerous, with fans of the genre fighting against the current of their day attempting to drift people away from the emotional music of the generation. But now it's 2025; those late-2000s outsiders have grown up—and emo is rising again. My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World—the bands who shaped a generation are continuing to play shows, and their fans are right back in their black eyeliner and emotional armor. What was emo really preaching? Because these weren't just break-up anthems—they were songs about identity, guilt, rebellion, spiritual confusion, and the longing for something beyond the pain. What we want to look at is the controversy, the comeback, and the worldview behind the music that became a church, therapy, and philosophy for millions.   Follow Good Fight Ministries on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/goodfightministries  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodfightministries  Twitter/X: https://www.twitter.com/goodfightmin  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@goodfightministries  Support Us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/goodfight

(00:00-22:07) – Query & Company opens on a Thursday with Jake Query and producer Eddie Garrison discussing last night’s Indiana Fever blowout loss to the New York Liberty without Caitlin Clark. Also, they debate whether they would want Victor Oladipo back on the Indiana Pacers if he’s in good enough shape to play every night. (22:07-37:56) – Indiana Fever Head Coach Stephanie White makes her weekly appearance on the show and starts her conversation off with Jake with an update on Caitlin Clark. She evaluates where her team needs to improve in the second half, identifies the team’s resiliency as the thing she’s liked the most through the first 23 games, and comments on if anything is different for her with the All-Star Game being in Indianapolis this weekend versus if it wasn’t. (37:56-41:55) – The first hour of the program concludes with Jake sharing a sports story based out of Westfield that has gone national. (41:55-1:04:50) – Radio voice of the Indianapolis Colts, Matt Taylor, joins the program to discuss how the offseason went for him, his expectations for Tyler Warren in his rookie season, shares that he doesn’t think the lack of production from the tight ends last year was their fault, admits he’s curious to see how Nick Cross will play this season with it being a contract year, and believes that Lou Anarumo will let Charvarius Ward play on an island and blitz a lot more than the defense did with Gus Bradley. (1:04:50-1:17:20) – Mike Niziolek from the Bloomington Herald Times joins Query & Company to discuss Indiana’s decision to back out of its home and home series with Virginia, reminds people that the Hoosiers did get a little lucky last season with down seasons from a couple of the big opponents on their schedule, and explains the difference between what fans saw with Kurtis Rourke last year to what they will see with Fernando Mendoza quarterbacking the Hoosiers. (1:17:20-1:22:30) – Hour number two of the show concludes with Jake and Eddie giving away a pair of tickets for a listener to go see The Offspring with Jimmy Eat World at Ruoff Music Center next weekend! (1:22:30-1:46:36) – Tony East from Forbes Sports and Locked On Pacers makes an appearance on the program to weigh in on the discussion on whether the Pacers should bring in Victor Oladipo. Tony also comments on who impressed him so far in Summer League for the Pacers, evaluates the first half of the season for the Fever, and agrees with Caitlin Clark that her body needs to rest during the All-Star weekend instead of trying to play through something. (1:46:36-1:55:03) – Jake and Eddie give away a pair of courtside tickets for a listener to go see the TBT! In order to do so, the listener has to answer the trivia question about Indiana basketball correctly. Also, they discuss what they liked with the MLB All-Star Game last night. (22:15-37:14) – Jesse Newell from the Kansas City Star joins the show to discuss if the way the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Chiefs exposed a weakness that other teams haven’t seen, highlights some of the lucky wins that Kansas City had last season that masked some of the deficiencies of the team, and evaluates if the Chiefs have taken swings on guys in the draft because of the mindset that Patrick Mahomes can mask a ton of issues and make everyone better. (37:14-41:55) – The first hour of the program concludes with Jake revealing what NBA player could be bought out that could make their way to Indianapolis (again) with the Pacers having one roster spot open. (41:55-1:05:23) – The IndyStar’s Joel Erickson joins Query & Company to discuss some pre-training camp storylines that have his attention outside of the quarterback competition.
