Long time zombie fans will tell you that using zombie outbreaks as a jumping off point for socio-political commentary is a genre staple. At least the one willing to admit George A Romero never made a single zombie film in a vacuum will. Although recent zombiefare tends to be less overt, blending comedy into an apocalyptic happenings is definitely a trend on the rise...again. Brain Freeze, 25th Fantasia Fest's opening night film, offered audiences just such a broad satire.  Set in Quebec, Brain Freeze leans into the zombie outbreak in an isolated community trope for it's central crisis. But unlike in many outbreak scenarios, this story isn't a globe-trotting race for a cure or to isolate patient zero. Instead, director and co-writer Julien Knafo uses this outbreak to take broad swipes at a range of issues like, polluting, xenophobia, classism, poor crisis management by governments, and misinformation campaigns.    It's the middle of winter on Peacock Island and the owners of the local country club see a moneymaking opportunity in being able to offer its affluent members the ability to play golf year round. Naturally, there's a company with a brand new fertilizer designed to grow grass in even the most challenging of conditions. Of course, this experimental chemical got into the water supply. Soon the island community's inhabitants are a bizarre new breed of zombie.  Brain Freeze centers to unlikely zombie apocalypse companions. André (Iani Bédard), the often too on-the-nose embodiment of a disaffected youth, and Dan (Roy Dupuis) a doomsday-prepping security guard.  The dynamic between the too make space for some low-key witty moments with a subtext juxtaposing the different ways neither is exactly the optimal traveling companion in a city overrun with zombies.  André's self-involved obliviousness is both a boon and a curse. While Dan's anti-establishment tendencies cause him to vital clues and dismiss André out of hand. And here's were the story hits its stride because the journey is fraught yet full of out of pocket humor.  In the midst of all this push and pull lies an unexpectedly fun romp as this strange duo attempt to avoid zombification while searching to clues to share with the outside world in hopes of a cure. But beyond the humor and ideologies battling it out in the subtext, Brain Freeze lacks cohesion. Knafo and co-writer Jean Barbe include too many topics to this a social satire. There's an actually sinister storyline lurking just beneath the camp that's repeatedly underserved. I spent quite a lot of this lesson without the camera rolling looking at these pedals and checking out my Gibson J45 which Pedro has also done an excellent job of setting up. We then set the camera rolling, which is a new video camera that I hope will improve the quality of the picture, and I ask Dan to go through some of the sounds which I should be aiming for in an upcoming gig my band and I are doing for my friend's 50th birthday. As always, much of what Dan tells me is stuffed with loads of gems and nuggets and a lot of the general rationale behind music over time and a consideration of what was available then. At just before 36 mins in, we swap my PRS for my Epiphone ES-335 with the Iron Gear Blues Engines (http://www.irongear.co.uk/irongear_pickups_006.htm). Dan gives it a go, but unhelpfully it's in Open G for my Stones parts. I show Dan what I do for Tumbling Dice and Jumpin Jack Flash and we look at the sound which the new pickups give it - pretty much straight away gaining a good tone for those songs. While Dan explains about effects and technologies over time I re-tune the guitar to standard tuning and finally Dan gives it a proper play to hear the different sounds available to it. It seems like a very impressive improvement to this guitar and I couldn't recommend Pedro Martins' work strongly enough. My guest to day is Dan Pugach. Dan is a talented drummer, composer and a recent Grammy-nominated arranger. Dan and his wife Nicole Zuraitis, (who was my guest in December 2018) have been nominated for a Grammy for Best Arrangement with Instruments and Vocals, for their co-arrangement of Dolly Parton’s song Jolene. Dan performs with various artists throughout the NY metropolitan area, but his passion for big band music has been channeled into writing and arranging for his own nonet, a 9 piece ensemble. I just heard Dan and his nonet perform at the 55 Bar in NYC last week and I highly recommend that you hear them for yourself! As an Israeli, Dan had a lot of musical opportunities, before, during, and after his mandatory 3 year service in the army, but he had his heart set on moving to New York City. He was grateful for the quick completion of his music degree at Berklee College in Boston, which cushioned his landing in NYC. Michael Lombardi is an American Football executive and analyst. He also served as an assistant to the coaching staff of the New England Patriots, one of the most successful franchises in the history of the National Football League. While Dan was reading Michael's new book "Gridiron Genius", he realized it wasn't just a book about sports. In many ways, Dan found "Gridiron Genius" to be as much a business book as a football one. For Dan Yarmoluk, Director of IoT for AETK Technologies, work takes him wherever the “rubber hits the road” in Industrial IoT. Based in the Midwest, Dan’s customers include traditional manufacturing firms with a conservative bias toward adoption of new technologies. One of the key observations is that early IoT projects often misaligned the type of data collected from machines, for instance lacking the granularity necessary to derive business value from data analytics. He discusses the value of being close to the customer, which is too often overlooked by vendors, as key to driving value from IoT initiatives, as well as his view that we are seeing an inflection in the market as more traditional companies are realizing the value of connected industry projects. Howdy! We did a little something new for this bonus content of the podcast. This is a long-form interview with a friend of mine named Dan about his faith journey from growing up in a nominal Catholic family, to priestly formation, to marriage and now an "almost complete de-conversion from Catholicism." He shares his story & the things that led to where he is now. I was fascinated with the interview because while our stories have taken different paths, I see a lot of similarities between Dan and I in some of the struggles with faith and Church(and personality). Dan Petroski was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and has the swagger and the accent to prove it. After attending Columbia University where he played football, Dan went to work for Time, Inc. While there, he earned his MBA from NYU and worked his way up the ranks towards a promising future in magazine publishing. A good chunk of his tenure at Time was spent managing advertising clients, which involved considerable schmoozing. This is how Dan learned wine, by walking his expense account through the lists of Manhattan’s top restaurants. When the Wall Street Journal tried to poach him, Dan took a moment to reflect. Deciding a change of life was in order, he jettisoned to Sicily for a year, where he interned at Valle dell’Acate. While Dan’s intention was to return to New York to sell wine, a harvest invitation from Andy Smith at DuMOL in 2006 was too good to pass up, and Dan left the city again, this time facing west. After harvest, Andy Smith hired Dan as Cellar Master at Larkmead. The following year, Dan was promoted to Assistant Winemaker, ultimately claiming the Larkmead Winemaker title in 2012. Before cementing his status as a Napa Valley Cabernet winemaker, in 2009 Dan launched a white wine only brand called Massican. Massican is Dan’s ode to the Mediterranean and his time spent living in Italy and drinking white wine. Dan is a gifted, instinctual winemaker, and his old world palate has guided his philosophy on wine. Dan’s approach and ability to craft wines as diverse as Cabernet Sauvignon and Tocai Friulano has earned him the recognition as San Francisco Chronicle’s Winemaker of the Year in 2017. Ryan amps up a future twitch stream he's going to do where he streams for 12 hours plus ! We try and figure out how he can do it with as little breaks as possible so for food he would have to get delivery and for washroom breaks he would just piss in a jug ! Afterwords, Ryan and Crystal play a guessing game against each other to see if Dan knows the answer or not ! Dan gets asked questions like what are the 2 elements in H2O, who was named after the month of July and what is a brothel ! While Dan tries to figure out his answer, Ryan and Crystal try and figure out if Dan knows it or not while Dan is listening to loud music. If they guess that Dan doesn't know it and he doesn't know it then they get a point ! Ryan is the winner Rolf the game and shuts down Crystal on her winning streak !

He even does a Morgan Freeman impression, which he struggles at because he's scared of black people ! What a scamp. The score becomes 6 all and Dan thinks a a quick impression to decide the tie breaker ! Crystal takes the cake and we move on to a segment called Bad Girlfriends. Before that segment starts, Crystal shares a story about a stalker who loved her so much she wanted to kill her and wear her skin ! What a silly goose. We then find some of the worst girlfriend story's ever ! This includes story's about girlfriends and ex girlfriends cutting their wrists, framing their boyfriends for assault, killing their boyfriends cat, breaking and entering and more ! Then we close the show talking about fucking dogs, jerking off, streaming video games and Dan touching Crystals boobs !

I’ll be honest. I was a bit nervous to do this interview. I was big into playing sports in high school, and our guest from the chat room, Dan, is currently a college coach. As you will hear, Dan is an awesome guy who has a great perspective on life and who has been through quite a bit in his trading journey. I personally think he’s being too hard on himself in regards to the awesome progress he has made, but I guess that’s what you’d expect from a college coach who expects the absolute best from his players. Notes: Dan started to get involved in trading and investing while his son was in a finance class. He funded his account but unfortunately his son ultimately lost all the money in there. After not finding too much success in blue chip stocks, Dan started to focus on small cap stocks with lower share prices to control more. While Dan is still trying to determine if he is a better day trader or swing trader, he is starting to apply more focus to risk management techniques to improve his overall consistency and profitability. That recognition alone puts him ahead of the curve by helping him realize that there is not just one way to make money in this market.
