The Curly Girl's Obsessions Episode 29: Pulling Back The Curtain on Business Decisions Thinking out of the box as a business owner is a must. Things change so often and you always need to reevaluate where you are and what you are doing. Is it stressful? Of course it is. Do I like it? It doesn't matter if I like it or not, it's a must in business to know when to pivot and understand how. I realized that running a platform for education with hair extensions I needed to start with new stylists. Hair school teaches you how to pass the state boards. Hair school gives you the basic knowledge of how to properly perform the essentials of hair. It is up to the individual to seek out the education they want to grow. Learning how to properly install hand-tied hair extensions is going to take a stylist's career to the next level. Learning this service will maximize your earning potential. Creating a niche service within hair extensions makes you even that much more valuable as a stylist. This is why Adored Signature is taking the education to the students at hair school that are about to graduate. We want to help them level up their skills the Adored way. Listen in as Jennifer discusses the very means by which to grow as a business owner. With statistics on the hair industry and what is currently growing by leaps and bounds. The Curl Tour is me, Jennifer Janisch, sharing my knowledge as a curly hair/ hair extension specialist with other hair stylists that want to elevate their career with the knowledge of texture. My experience in the hair industry starts at the age of 12. I started assisting my mom's friend at her salon shampooing her clients. I went to hair school at the age of 16 and started working full time in a hair salon when I was 17. (For full details go back and listen to Episode 1 of the Curly Girl's Obsessions, Who is Jennifer Janisch?) I became a curl specialist 15yrs ago and an extension artist 14yrs ago. I created my own line of naturally textured hand-tied hair 6 yrs ago and starting selling them to stylists across the US 4 1/2 yrs ago and now we are currently in 6 other countries. I soon realized the lack of understanding for textured hair after selling to other stylists and knew I needed to start educating. I started with online classes and then moved into one on one classes. Then I thought it would be fun to take on the road. So here we are! My team and I are traveling to other salons teaching how to install hand-tied hair extensions with the Adored Signature Install Methods for textured hair. Then there is The Blueprint to an Adored Signature Curly Install. We show how to properly install curly hand-tied hair from start to finish. our press release https://www.einpresswire.com/article/680423974/adored-signature-hand-tied-hair-extensions-announces-the-curl-tour-2024 discusses our locations and so much more. Being to comfortable can bring growth to a screeching halt. How do you take accountability? How do you decide your future vs your future deciding you? In the hair industry your future is determined by your willingness to push yourself. As a stylist you create a business within a business and it is your ability to continue to learn new things and step out of your comfort zone that determine your growth. (The screen will turn after 2 minutes and 45 seconds my editing is not perfect yet. As you listen you will understand more.) When I think back on 2023 there were so many things to learn from. The salon industry went a little quiet towards the last half of the year. When all 3 of your businesses revolve around hair you must course correct and cut costs. What I did not realize was the treasures I would uncover in the process. There was so much that I did not want to do but had to do. Now I am over the hump of irritation and moving forward in the direction of growth. In this episode I discuss a new planner I received for Christmas. It is called The Modern Warrior. If you would like to learn more about it you can check out @chrisfinlay3527 on You Tube. He is the creator. (Please know this is not a paid ad for the workbook. You know it's not everyday you get to teach a skill you know so well to someone who does not know anything about it. It's so humbling. I think learning through their eyes gave me a perspective I needed to see once again in my life. We can do things over and over and learn them so well it becomes second nature. Sometimes you get lucky enough to feel it again. This is my challenge to you with the new year upon us. Scare yourself with your goals and life ambitions. Scare yourself to be more. Have you ever heard the phrase, “burn all the boats”? In Viking times they actually did burn all the boats when they settled on new land so they could not go home. Julius Caesar said the same thing when he thought his soldiers were ready to retreat from fear. What better way to make your goals a reality in 2024 by burning all your boats that you no longer wish to sail? This is something I am so passionate about. It's how I live my life. It started with wanting to work more hours in the salon I was at then. I needed to find something more than curly hair to fill that time. I chose hair extensions. I have learned several different methods of installing extensions but learned quickly that the Handtied methods were the best. Fewer points of contact on the hair mean less damage. Once I figured out my favorite method, finding the perfect hair was the only thing that mattered. From there, Adored Signature Hand-tied Hair extensions was created. While there have been many bumps in the road, this career never ceases to amaze me. The places it has taken me have blown my mind, and continue to do so. I hope you enjoy this listen. It happened on New Year's Eve my whole family was sick. I was eating dinner in my PJs and received a call from my friend. She told me that an experienced stylist at her salon quit, and they needed someone to take over her clientele. I knew the minute I hung up that phone, I was getting that position. Summary (AI generated): How she became a curly hair specialist. 0:00 Welcome to the curly girls little sessions podcast. Jennifer is the owner of adored salon and is obsessed with curly hair. Today's topic is how she became a curly hair specialist. She even did nails for eight years, even though she broke her hand in a car accident. She learned how to do nails and took over all the nail clients in the salon. She was working in her house for a long time, working in a salon in New York and getting certified. Getting a job at a salon. 4:44 She was available all the time and there for her children at the drop of a dime because she worked out of her house. She treated it like an actual salon, with boundaries and pricing. She was starved for connection with other stylists and camaraderie in the salon. She was excited to learn a new technique, but was overwhelmed by the amount of time she had to spend in New York. The second day, she asked to take a third model and it was in new york. She was nervous to fly by herself. Putting yourself out there. 9:54 The importance of doing all ethnicities of hair in the salon, and how the first client's hair looked like a sponge. The threshold for patients at that point was zero. She was 21 and her mom always did her hair. She had not come through her hair since she moved to new york. She had a bleached out blonde afro. She had never cut her hair prior to that part of her career, and it was not a thing. She was the sweetest thing. She had faith in you. The first client that scared me and the second. 17:19 The first client, the second client, was a Tennessee girl who loved the whole process and loved where she was. The third client was from Tennessee and wanted her to do exactly what she was taught to do. The second client was easy, the third was a bit of a struggle. She was so happy when she was done that she came home and her family had a newfound appreciation for her. She knew she had to perform and become a six-figure stylist. She would get there on a saturday and get eight hair cuts back to back, with no breaks. The importance of niching down to your specialties. 22:57 She went to a salon without a clientele to maintain her other stylist clientele. She learned the importance of niching down to her specialty to produce the maximum dollar amount for her. When she decided to go out on her own and open her own salon, she knew that her main thing was curly hair. Curly hair is more fragile than straight hair and requires more time and effort to keep it conditioned when doing a lightning service or a color transformation. Adored signature full color. How to become a six-figure stylist. 28:25 With curly hair, there is no in between guesswork on how to cut it. There is a method, a start and an ending point. With the proper curly girls set, you can typically go a good seven days without washing your hair even more if you want. All of these things come with ease after time because you learn and use the same product day in and day out. How to become a six-figure stylist. Next week, jennifer will talk about how she started with hair extensions and how that road was chaotic, but there were so many learning lessons along the way.
