✨ JOIN ME LIVE THIS WEDNESDAY, Adored. Chosen. Secure. (FREE 3-Day Event) This is the one I only run once a year, and it starts this Wednesday. Three days of live, transformational coaching with me, not more information, real internal shifts. Spots are almost gone, so don't wait: GRAB YOURS NOW!Girl, "time heals all wounds" is a lie and believing it might be the very thing keeping you stuck. In this episode I'm getting a little controversial and calling out the three lies about healing that I see keeping smart, self-aware women trapped in the same patterns, the same heartbreak, for years longer than they need to be. After six-plus years and over a thousand people through my framework, these are the beliefs I'm doubling down on debunking because awareness was never your problem. You've read the books. You've done the surface work. This episode is about going deeper, getting to the root, and finally attracting the secure, healthy love you deserve.Inside the episode:Why "time heals all wounds" is a myth and how waiting without action just sets the pattern deeperThe truth about "dating is a numbers game" (hint: more dates often = more repetition compulsion, not progress)Why traditional therapy is your primary care provider but attachment healing is specialist work, plus a bonus lie about making healing your entire personalityI'm also sharing my own story over a decade in toxic, secret relationships, and the secure marriage I'm so proud of today.

You're successful at work. Calm with your friends. Emotionally regulated in your family. And then you fall for someone… and suddenly you don't recognize the woman in the mirror. Girl, you're not broken, you're caught in a pattern. And in this episode, I'm walking you through exactly why it happens, and what finally got me off the dating roller coaster for good.I'm pulling back the curtain on the two attachment dynamics that quietly run so many women's love lives, the anxious-avoidant trap and the disorganized-disorganized trauma bond, and why your nervous system keeps pulling you toward the one emotionally unavailable person in a room full of secure options. This isn't about shame. It's about awareness, compassion, and finally healing the wound underneath the pattern so you can stop repeating it.Inside the episode:Why your romantic relationships bring out your deepest unhealed wounds (and why this is actually a gift, not a curse)The anxious-avoidant trap explained, including why intermittent reinforcement lights up your brain like a slot machine and gets confused for "this is the one"The disorganized-disorganized trauma bond, why it can feel like a "twin flame," and how trauma cycles (not connection) are what's actually cementing the bondIf you saw yourself in this episode and you're ready to stop repeating the cycle, I've got two ways to support you:

Knowing your attachment style is not the finish line, y'all, it's the starting line. I have a doctorate in clinical psychology and I knew attachment theory inside and out, and I still couldn't attract a healthy relationship until I did the deeper work underneath it.In this episode, I'm getting honest about why so many of you have read all the books, taken all the quizzes, listened to 300 episodes of this podcast and still feel stuck in the same painful patterns. The missing piece is your unconscious relationship belief system. These are the sneaky, below-the-surface beliefs that decide who you're attracted to, what you tolerate, and why secure love can feel "boring" while chaos feels like chemistry. I'm walking you through the most common limiting beliefs I see (love must be earned, inconsistency equals attraction, I have to over-give to be chosen, people always leave me, I'm not enough, I'm too much), why your brain files them away as truth, and the real work it takes to rewire them.Inside the episode:Why attachment theory awareness without belief-level rewiring can actually leave you in more pain, not lessThe "is this serving you?" framework I use with clients to excavate the beliefs running your love life behind the scenesWhy your "type" isn't really your type, it's your unhealed belief system choosing your partners for youIf this episode lit something up in you, your next step is here. I'm hosting my free 3-day live event, Adored. Chosen. Secure. on June 10, 11, and 12 — three days of transformational coaching with me where we go deeper than attachment theory and into the inner work that actually changes your love life. Adored by her family and neighbors, she was known for her humor, generosity, and the simple kindness she extended to those around her. Hello and welcome to our first official We Will Rank You rerun. You may have noticed that we've had to reupload some old episodes recently that were mistakenly taken down for copyright reasons. I looked at our analytics for the first time in ages and noticed that we had the biggest month we've ever had just because of one extra old episode I'd put back up. I mean, I'm already slowly putting up all of the old episodes on Youtube with fun visuals. I guess I can put up an oldie here too.Jim chose the first one to bring back and he picked episode seven on the self-titled debut of the Stone Roses from 2021. He chose to rank each song in the order that they're on the album, which we only did one other time, for Blur's Parklife, before the others agreed that it was anticlimactic when we named our favorite song in the first few minutes. I told ya. At an hour and 57 minutes, it was our longest episode to date but a couple of episodes later, Sinead passed it by one minute and eventually our 1983 wildcard episode was our longest at nearly three hours. For years, this was our most listened to episode until it was recently taken over by our Wildcard Live Album show.Jim writes: "The hosts agree (I think) that this is the group's favorite album they've ever ranked.  I maintain my album picks are the best. No one comes close."  He's not right about his picks being the best but this episode probably is in a very close race with Violent Femmes for our biggest surefire lovefest, except for, spoiler alert, Dan's take on Adored, which became an oft-repeated anecdote. Here it tis.Jim's lemony-fresh pick is by FAR the album that the four of us have all loved the most. That combined with Adam being the singer for a ridiculous Stone Roses coverband means that there was a LOT for us to say, resulting in our longest episode yet. However, it's a FUN one. For fans of podcasts that go track-by-track instead of our usual countdown, today is your lucky day for a special episode on this 1989 classic. Special guests include 33 1/3 Stone Roses author Alex Green from Stereo Embers podcast and F#!kin' In The Bushes DJ Daniel Sant! Instead of following trends, Satisfy chooses to build a brand that's different. Daniel said it best: “The easiest way to do something quite different is to not look at anything at all.”In a landscape where brands benchmark competitors and chase fleeting trends, Satisfy focuses on culture. They hire for it before skill, treat customers as guests, and think in decades rather than moments. This philosophy shines through in the Satisfy Pro Team. It's not just a sponsorship roster, but a reflection of the brand's commitment to process and discipline. The key takeaway: Most brands chase relevance, but Satisfy builds consistency. They react to culture, while Satisfy hires for it. They aim for long-term impact, not short-term hype. This conversation is a masterclass in long-term brand strategy and the discipline of saying no.Watch the video version of this podcast on Youtube ▶️: https://youtu.be/CRUMwdDoj5o

Nuala McGovern is joined by Elliott Rae founder of Parenting Out Loud and Penny East, chief executive of the Fawcett Society. In 2012, Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old Kenyan woman and mother, was found dead in a septic tank near a British army base in central Kenya. More than a decade later, no one has been charged with her killing. Last month, a Kenyan High Court issued an arrest warrant for a British national suspected of her murder. We hear from Agnes' niece, Esther who is here in London today meeting with the Ministry of Defence calling for answers and for someone to be held responsible. Today would have been Baroness Margaret Thatcher's 100th birthday. Britain's Prime Minister for almost 12 years, she was the first woman ever to hold that position. Adored and revered by many, grudgingly respected by others, reviled by some on the left & criticised by feminists for doing little for women, can her legacy be clearly defined? To discuss Nuala is joined by Baroness Gillian Shephard who served in the ‘Iron Lady's' first government and Sarah Childs, Professor of Gender and Politics at the University of Edinburgh.Over the weekend, we heard that the Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton died at the age of 79. Bette Midler called her "brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary", Goldie Hawn said "You never liked praise, so humble, but now you can't tell me to ‘shut up' honey. There was, and will be, no one like you.” They were two of her co-stars in the huge 1996 film the First Wives Club.... but Diane Keaton made her name decades before in American film classics such as Annie Hall, The Godfather, Reds. Victoria Moss, freelance fashion and lifestyle journalist and Leila Latif, film critic, discuss her impact.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Kirsty Starkey

Andrea Gibson was named Colorado's 2023–25 Poet Laureate for their celebrated verses on love, LGBTQ issues, spirituality, mental health, social justice, and more. Tami Simon speaks with Andrea about their approach to work and how their journey through cancer radically changed that approach. This poignant conversation featuring Andrea's reading of their poem, “Acceptance Speech After Setting the World Record in Goosebumps” and exploring spiritual surrender, finding joy in every instant, facing challenges, moving through grief, the life force of the universe within us, self-love and loving the whole world, trying softer (not harder), the power of relaxation, identifying the keys that open your heart, staying with our fear, activism and loosening our attachment to desired outcomes, being yourself fully, the gift of mortality, giving the present moment the cold shoulder, why authenticity is the most important thing when it comes to writing, the pull of creativity, and more. Back in 2019, John spoke with the celebrated comic novelist Stephen McCauley. Nobody knows more about the comic novel than Steve--his latest is You Only Call When You're in Trouble, but John still holds a candle for his 1987 debut, Object of My Affection, made into a charming Jennifer Aniston Paul Rudd movie. And there is no comic novelist Steve loves better than Barbara Pym, a mid-century British comic genius who found herself forgotten and unpublishable in middle age, only to roar back into print in her sixties with A Quartet in Autumn. Steve and John's friendship over the years has been sealed by the favorite Pym lines they text back and forth to one another, so they are particularly keen to investigate why her career went in this way. In the episode, they talk about some of these favorite sentences from Pym, and then turn to the comic novel as a genre. They talk about the difference between humorous and comic writing, the earthiness of comedy, whether comic novels should have happy or sad endings, and whether the comic novel is a precursor to, or an amoral relief from, the sitcom. They also discuss some of Steve's fiction, including his Rain Mitchell yoga novels. In Recallable Books John recommends Pictures from an Institution by Randall Jarrell and Steve recommends After Claude by Iris Owens. Discussed in this episode: The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, Laurence Sterne Vanity Fair, William Makepeace Thackeray Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain Jude the Obscure, Thomas Hardy “The Beast in the Jungle,” Henry James The Thurber Carnival, James Thurber The Group, Mary McCarthy After Claude, Iris Owens Pictures from an Institution, Randall Jarrell An Unsuitable Attachment, Barbara Pym Less than Angels, Barbara Pym The Sweet Dove Died, Barbara Pym Portnoy's Complaint, Philip Roth The Sellout, Paul Beatty My Ex-Life, Stephen McCauley You can listen here or read here. I have a confession about the 6 Intimacy Skills™ I'm always talking about. At first, I thought they sounded stupid. I remember thinking, “I am NOT going to do THAAAAT!” I thought they were old-fashioned and just plain yucky. I thought if I apologized for being disrespectful, that would be a step back for all womankind. And that's NOT how *I* was raised. Or if I expressed my gratitude for something my husband should do anyway, that would turn me into a Stepford Wife robot. Good thing I was so desperate or I probably never would have tried the 6 Intimacy Skills. Once I did, I saw things so differently. Yes, the Skills were counterintuitive but also compelling. I got excited about how I felt when I experimented with them. I didn't think that was going to happen, but then I actually *tried* them. Which wasn't easy to do all by my lonesome. Fortunately, there's now a whole community of like-minded women, and we have something exciting brewing! I'll tell you all about it on today's episode of The Empowered Wife Podcast, where I'm talking about the 5-Day Adored Wife Challenge. And the Man Panel continues!
