Pastor Darrison's sermon, The Book of James Part 4: ANYTHING YOU CAN DO I CAN DO BETTER, is a powerful call to step beyond the world's standards of success and into a life fully surrendered to God. Instead of chasing “better” to impress others, he challenges us to choose different—the kind of faith that stands out, not for recognition, but for transformation. Drawing from James 4, Ephesians 2, and other scriptures, he reveals that our struggles often come from misplaced desires, but God's grace is always greater. True fulfillment isn't found in striving but in surrender—dying to self, as Galatians 2:20 and Philippians 1:21 remind us, so that Christ can fully live through us. Though choosing God's way may bring criticism, it also brings an unshakable identity, purpose, and the kind of faith that changes lives. The altar isn't just a place to cry—it's where we lay everything down and step into the anointing God has prepared for us. This message is a bold reminder that when we stop fighting for control and let God lead, He takes us places we never imagined.

Have you ever been so sure of something—only to realize later that you should have listened to the warnings?
When the Lord is calling us into a new season, we are faced with various decisions and postures that will help us navigate that transition with success. One of the most important things we can do is to be fully convinced of God's call, and refuse to go back to the old ways of doing things. In this message, we're going to talk about what happened when Elisha was called to become a prophet, and learn from the example of his life in how to position ourselves for our own transitions.Visit us online at http://www.fathershouseportland.org

Each of us, regardless of our upbringing, must make a decision to follow Jesus. For Shawna it was the moment she prayed, “Even if my family turns away, I will keep following you Jesus.” Perry shares, “The only reason I love Jesus and want to share him with others is because he loved me at my worst. I need to come back to the simplicity of that.” Perry says, “the feelings of shame once told me, ‘what you’ve done wrong is who you are and who you’ll always be.’ I now know for certain that’s a lie; and that’s a gamechanger when I still feel shame.” When we’re going through hard times, we often question God’s goodness. We stand at a crossroads and are forced to choose what we believe about God. Why do some people come through the hardships stronger? There are times when we are so weak, so afraid, that we struggle to even pray. In those times you can pray a powerful one word prayer that Shawna learned when she was afraid.Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In chapter 3 of Galatians, Paul continues his defense of living by faith as opposed to living by the law. God initiates and provides The Way to salvation. Why do we so readily go back to trying to earn it by keeping the law. Paul quotes the Old Testament saying that "Abraham believed God and God counted him as righteous because of his faith." The law was given for a purpose between the promise and the fulfillment of that promise, but now that the promise has been fulfilled there is a "new and better way," and we are not turning back.
In 2nd Samuel 12, David acknowledges his sin of sleeping with Bathsheba and killing Uriah and he pleads that his son would stay alive. When he finds out that his son died, David gets up, washes, eats, and goes to worship the Lord. David recovered quickly and he comfortedBathsheba. When you understand how much Jesus loves you, you won't want to take advantage of Jesus. When we go out of bounds, we will want to quickly get back in the game. David modeled moving forward in life and the importance of going to the Lord.
Katie Rykal - For some, the words Jesus speaks are simply too much and they turn back and no longer follow him. But not the 12. They knew what was in it for them. They knew the gift they received because they chose to stick with Jesus. Our young people have been on a similar journey this Summer. How have they lived out their calling as disciples of Jesus? How have they stuck with it, when it might have been easier to turn back? Support our podcast here Watch the Livestream Follow us on Instagram Visit our Website

Hebrews 12:1-2 I've watched a number of races in my time from 100m to 10,000m. I've seen runners fall unexpectedly and get back up to win gold! I've seen runners have their dreams shattered by an injury mid-way through the race — I've seen them get back up and hobble the final lap to cross the finish line. For sure, I've seen disappointments and setbacks on the track, but there's one thing that I've never yet witnessed and that is a runner running back to the starting line!! Yet what is considered an absurdity in the natural is sadly a common reality in the spiritual. I see Christian athletes turning back all the time. Running in the wrong direction!! This sermon is a call to self-denial, to pick the cross and to follow Christ!
I have driven circles around New Mexico. I know where the best tortilla chips are, and the lighting is magnificent! What a beautiful state! I did overcome my fear of heights driving up and down a mountain with both feet on the brake. What a ride! I won't soon forget that experience, and every morning when I listen to the Foals' “Mountain at My Gates,” I'm reminded that I made it up and back down. I have never prayed harder than in that moment after watching a truck use a runaway truck ramp. That will get your blood pumping.
