Vonda picks up on episode #8 with a Part 2, giving a little bit of her background, being from Philly, and her education. Vonda talks about her passion and why she mentors leaders. She dives back into learning as a key focus necessary for those who want to move forward to progress and talks about Mrs. Harris, her first grade teacher, and what she learned from her. Take on the gift of learning. Learn from Black women. Connect with Vonda on LinkedIn. https://bit.ly/3qOS4Eo Watch LIVE episodes of The Group Chat here. https://bit.ly/3mfRFrv
In this episode, Vonda kicks off with a message around the value of learning. Vonda says, “Eventually when white people have had enough, you'll learn. Take that pill.” You can you do it. You live, love, cry, loose, bleed, scream, grieve, laugh, choose, pray, ask… “It's unfortunate, white people have not learn to metabolize complex difficult or challenging feelings. However it's important to take that jagged little pill with the recognition that Black people never get the privilege of comfort.” You learn. Do some research into your own family history, get to know who you are and from whom you've come is a part of Vonda's advice in this latest episode of WWPHHE. Ask yourself what is true for you - what do you actually believe? Act on that. Stand on that. Connect with Vonda on LinkedIn. https://bit.ly/3qOS4Eo Watch LIVE episodes of The Group Chat here. https://bit.ly/3mfRFrv
In Vonda's words... "When WWHHE, they'll consider some food for thought and thought for food. When are white people going to unpack your stuff? “White women carry the water and do the dirty work for men.” Those same 40% of women who owned slaves before 1865 are working in HR, Marking and Legal and Government Relations, in hospitals, schools, corporations, banks, and every other industry. Today they are delivering the same punishments as their - but with advanced means. Today the same descendants leverage technology, power and Anti-Blackness to maintain status quo. “When white people have had enough they will treat each other as sisters and stop letting each other get harmed by the patriarchy?" The Body Keeps the Score is a book Vonda recommends to help unpack internal trauma. If you've been abused in the past, you must heal, rather than heap your past trauma on others. Anti-Blackness is the foundation on which we operate and until white people are unhappy with the status quo. The food for thought; how long will we continue a debased society where women hurt other women on purpose!" Connect with Vonda on LinkedIn. https://bit.ly/3qOS4Eo Watch LIVE episodes of The Group Chat here. https://bit.ly/3mfRFrv
In Vonda's words... "One of the things to unpack, with the quickness, is your family history. Understanding and unpacking the truth about your family history is a major key to unlocking your current beliefs, attitudes, actions and the underlying frameworks within. It also serves as an on-ramp for personal healing. Although uncovering your family history is often a painful journey for many, it's critical for growth and I'm glad I've been on a personal healing journey for more than a decade that has changed my life." Vonda says, “You are connected to your history even if you're not in contact with them any more. They are part of who you are right now and today. Look for the truth in your family history to learn more about how you think, feel and act. Unpack your family history and learn to live with and in truth!" In Vonda's words... "President Biden warns that people capable of giving birth will be arrested when they cross the border. Why are people letting these conditions stand? In this episode Vonda breaks down some of the undiscussed issues she feels critical to advancing the efforts of true equity and eventual liberation for all of us. Abortion, deleting period apps and urgent care are among a few points she touches and she asks if white people are happy with heir rights being diminished. Vonda believes that when white people have had enuf they will decide what type of person they want to be and move in that direction. According to Vonda: "When white people have had enuf they will “Unpack Their Sh*t.”" Want to know more about our LinkedIn Learning courses? In Vonda's words... "I am not your token. Coons and Karens got us all the way back in history regarding human rights rights allowing Roe v. Wade. We are back in 1775 and now 10 year-old girls are being told to "get used to being pregnant" by federal and state judges and people are not up in arms about that. Why are people surrendering their power and white women and some Black people going along with it? Where are the white liberals? Where are the voices and resources coming through to make it happen." In Vonda's words... "Closely following the presidency of Jimmy Carter was the beginning of my education and interest in politics, change, leadership, media, economics, government and understanding Beltway shenanigans. I read the newspapers and gave oral and written reports to my grandfather who didn't have time to read much more after he spent hours poring over Dow Jones and Nasdaq end of market close line by line. When it comes to this stuff I know my ish, and sadly we are further down the bad path that most people believe. And something's got to give. I've been trying to think of how to make it plain - I have been struggling for months with construction on my house, finding good cameras, and lighting, etc. This topic, this time, it is far too urgent to wait any longer. It's time to make moves. It's time to shift the standards. It's time to shake the up the structures and it's time to shape the strategies savvily to get this ISH done! Nothing is going to change until white people have had enuf. (Yes, E N U F) Black people do not have power to stop it, this train of trauma, terror and tumult. If so, we would have been done it. This new series, When White People Have Had Enuf, will bridge the gap in understanding what liberal white people face when it comes to taking tactics, tools and techniques to the streets to get real shit done. In Vonda's words… “Being underpaid, undervalued, under-promoted, harassed, demeaned and assaulted are often common and typical experiences of Black women in the corporate American workplace. And how we handle it can mean the difference between comfort and uncertainty; poverty and paying our bills. It can feel like a trap, like shackles, it's nothing less than traumatic. And — the healing takes time. But did you know there are tools and resources available to take back your power and hold workplace decision makers to account for harmful environments? In Vonda's words… “I'm reminded of this painful part of American History, once again when I hear stories like that of author and though leader Jacquie Abram. As I read her daughter's experience with recent racialized trauma resulting from harassment, harm, assault and horrific attacks by of course, a “so-called former-friend (also melanin deficient, of course).
