In a world defined by volatility, disruption and rapid transformation, leaders face a critical question: Do you merely react to disruption, or do you use it to take control of your future? In this episode, Niels Brabandt speaks with Dr. Patrick Leddin — professor at Vanderbilt University, bestselling author, former U.S. Army officer, entrepreneur and one of the world's leading voices on leadership in times of uncertainty. Together, they unpack the core message of Dr. Leddin's new book: Disrupt Everything and Win. This conversation delivers deep insights for executives, board members and organisational decision makers: Why disruption is not a threat but a strategic opportunity How to turn fear of change into constructive action The 27 positive disruptor moves that empower leaders and teams How to manage AI-driven uncertainty without losing credibility Why the best leaders openly acknowledge what they don't know The critical difference between performing today and transforming for tomorrow How to build resilience while still delivering on KPIs What leaders can learn from Dr. Leddin's three-year research study of 350 disruptors Why small experiments outperform big promises How teams become stronger when they decentralise decision making during crisis How mid-level leaders take control even when they cannot control circumstances This episode provides a practical, evidence-based roadmap for leaders who want to thrive — not survive — in an era where disruption has become constant. BT & Sal tear into Hal Steinbrenner's latest comments, arguing his stance suggests "much is going to change" with the Yankees' failed formula. Sal is fed up with Steinbrenner's talk of potentially lowering payroll and his belief that rivals like the Blue Jays simply got "lucky." The hosts demand a "radical" move, specifically the trading of Giancarlo Stanton, arguing it would be "addition by subtraction" to free up the roster and payroll for needed changes, comparing it to the Mets' surprising Nimmo trade. They also slam Hal's defensive response to Aaron Boone's comment about the team being the "least analytical" in the AL East, suggesting it enables the "Department of Nerds" to continue the status quo. Finally, they criticize Hal's take on pursuing Japanese stars—like Yamamoto—acknowledging the business side, but missing the bigger picture of the Yankees losing their status as a destination for elite international talent.

They debate Maeda as a central striker, what to expect from new signings like Tounetki and Balakwisha, and why Kilmarnock's direct, physical style on a plastic pitch could expose Celtic's vulnerabilities. It's a frank look at squad risks, tactical dead ends, and whether Rodgers can adapt before Celtic's European campaign.Want to support the channel? - https://huddlebreakdown.comLike this video and want more content like it? The New Moon in Virgo is not your average New Moon. Virgo is often associated with the humility, routine, decluttering, and wellness - and while these themes certainly apply to this New Moon, this lunation will be exactly square Uranus, the planet of revolution, freedom, and change, in the sign of Gemini. We could feel a need to break with convention or usher in dramatic change under this New Moon. We could also experience unanticipated changes under this lunation as well with unpredictable Uranus. Additionally, this is the first of two New Moons in the sign of Virgo, the second being solar eclipse on September 21st. So this New Moon could feel ‘eclipse-y' meaning there can be an eclipse flavor to this New Moon, pointing to more significant changes occurring in September when we have both a Lunar and Solar eclipse in the signs of Virgo and Pisces. What does this New Moon mean for your sign? Not only is Trump succeeding, he is exceeding expectations as well. But the Left is not going down without a fight. Victor Davis Hanson explains the challenges being poised against Trump's counterrevolution, and what he believes are the next steps on today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “ The symptoms of the progressive project are not just the Democrats exercising power in Congress or holding the White House, it's how they get that power. And they get that power through PBS and NPR, now defunded; cable news and slanted network news, now under assault when they lie and defame and face court ramifications. “ The majority of the American people oppose [Democrats'] agenda. And they do this through the bureaucracies, through the media, through the universities, through the popular culture. And these are the very sources that Donald Trump is asking them to reform. And the government is going to shrink. The government's gonna get out of the media business. The government's gonna take a hard look at universities, who want and obtain federal funds.”

Accidental Gods
Radical Change: Building a Parallel Economy with Peter Kemp of Citizen Coin

Accidental Gods

Play Episode Listen Later May 7, 2025 80:14

We are living through a time between stories—where the old economic narratives of scarcity, extraction, and separation are crumbling, and a new one is seeking to be born. At the heart of this transition is the question: What do we truly value, and how do we express that value in ways that nourish life?Imagine a society where every act of care, contribution, and kindness is not only appreciated but economically recognised. Schools, councils, and local businesses become part of an ecosystem where value flows back and forth amongst the people who create it. This doesn't replace wages or public services—it enhances them. This is a good step of the way towards a culture that's predicated on solid core values of compassion, integrity and generosity of spirit, and where we value what we care about, rather than what we can grab.  So how do we build this in ways that work - and do so inside the current system? This week's guest, Peter Kemp, calls himself a professional dot-joiner.  Peter is a UK-based digital innovator and social entrepreneur whose career has spanned web technology, media production, civic engagement, and alternative economics. He was a co founder of HullCoin, and currently serves as CEO of Value Squared (V2) Ltd and the Social Value Academy, organisations dedicated to reimagining how we understand, measure, and reward social value. As part of his work, Peter has helped to establish Citizen Coin - a digital, values-led complementary currency designed explicitly to recognise and reward social, environmental, and civic contributions that often go unpaid and undervalued in the mainstream economy.  He says, 'The current economic model—predominantly built around fiat currencies and centralised systems—is increasingly failing to deliver equitable outcomes, community cohesion, or environmental resilience. Citizen Coin offers a new approach: a digital token earned through pro-social actions—such as volunteering, participating in community initiatives, or engaging in sustainable practices. These actions are verified by local authorities, public sector bodies, or accredited third-party partners. Unlike traditional money, which is often scarce and controlled, Citizen Coins are abundant where social value is being generated.'Crucially, Citizen Coin is not a replacement for fiat currency. Instead, it operates as a complementary economy—a parallel system that strengthens local resilience, incentivises positive behaviour, and redistributes recognition for care work and civic participation.  More than a technology, this offers a shift in worldview—a move from scarcity to abundance, from extraction to contribution. As we face overlapping crises of inequality, climate, and mental health, complementary economies like this are no longer radical—they are necessary.  Citizen Coin is not just about digital infrastructure or economic reform. It is about choosing a new story—one where we honour the unseen, uplift the essential, and move from domination to stewardship. It is about birthing an economy in service to life.Value Squared https://www.value-squared.com/#aboutCitizen Coin https://www.citizencoin.uk/If you're interested in joining us at a Gathering, or in the Membership, please follow the links below: Accidental Gods Gatherings https://accidentalgods.life/gatherings-2025/Accidental Gods Membership https://accidentalgods.life/join-us/

Sometimes friendship can be a powerful force for social and political change. This is according to today's guest, Priya Vulchi, author of the newly-released (and AMAZING!) Good Friends: Bonds That Change Us and the World, which offers a resounding cry that friendship is vital, not just for individual well-being, but for humanity itself.Priya is the co-founder of the nonprofit, Choose; was the youngest TED resident ever; has been published in places like The New York Times and Time Magazine; and is pursuing her Ph.D. in African and African American Studies at Harvard as a presidential scholar. In other words, she knows what she's talking about. But here's why I'm excited about this conversation: we talk about how real authentic friendship is actually RADICAL and can change the world, challenging the status quo and causing people to care about issues simply because they impact the people they love.In this episode you'll hear about:Aristotle's three types of friendship – utility, pleasure, and virtue – and how these definitions still apply todayHow friendship challenges capitalistic models of overconsumption and self-reliance by relying on friends for favors instead of Uber or Amazon How friendship can be political, requiring people to challenge their self-interests and deepen relationshipsThe concept of heteros, or political friendship, and how it is as important as philia, or friendship of virtue; plus, the importance of joy in friendshipsResources & LinksBe sure to read Good Friends: Bonds That Change Us and the World by Priya Vulchi and her first book, Tell Me Who You Are: Sharing Our Stories of Race, Culture, and Identity, which she wrote with Winona Guo.Like what you hear? Three years ago, Scaachi Koul went through a divorce, a process that she says was "disorienting." But divorce, the Slate writer says, also offered a framework for rethinking everything: her relationship with men, family, conflict, and herself. Her new book of essays Sucker Punch works through this personal evolution. In today's episode, Koul speaks with NPR's Leila Fadel about one of the primary relationships in these essays: the writer's relationship with her mother. They also discuss Koul's shifting perspective on fights, her interest in speaking with the man who sexually assaulted her, and her loose interpretation of Hindu fables. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
