Housepedia Podcasts #HomeIsWhereHouseIsPlaying 140 I K.Mo As a teen in the late 80s, James Kumo's world was opened up by Kiss 100FM - still a pirate station at the time. “I don't know how I got to know about it, actually. It was probably through a friend or someone's brother,” he recounts. Recording shows on cassette decks and envying the friends' older brothers who were old enough to get into clubs, he was enthralled by the rhythms of dance music straight away. Kumo ventured into production for the first time in 2007. Though still learning the ropes, he drew from his lifelong immersion in dance music and quickly landed on his feet; his first releases, Kumomusic Vols 1 and 2, appeared on the Delsin Records imprint Ann Aimee. In more recent years, Kumo has introduced K.Mo, a new platform with which he explores deeper, more soulful house sounds. Under this alias, he released his first LP ‘Vision' in 2020, followed by an impressive run of EPs. The Space Funk EP is the project's latest showing, which features instrumental contributions from Byron the Aquarius, Tim Jules and Chris Bruining. All of this has been under the banner of Wayout Records, Kumo's own label, which he envisions as a vessel for community and collaboration. “I want it to be not like a label who's churning out music all the time, more of a collection of people making music we like,” he says. “More of a friendship group of sorts. For more than ten years now, Robin Koek and Nick Lapien have been creating music together as Artefakt. Since then, they have consistently released music at the intersections of ambient, IDM, techno, with LPs on Svreca's Semantica, Delsin, and Delsin electronica sub-label Ann Aimee in addition to their many EPs. Their next release is 6 track mini album “Floodplain”, landing on the impactful Spanish label Semantica next month. Ranging from brooding ambient on openers and closers “Fugacity” and “Floodplain”, to dance floor-oriented tribal on “Diorama”, “Natura” and “Delta”, the LP showcases the duo's range and further illustrates their commitment to adopt techno “as an art-form rather than a genre.” On “Natant”, we follow the squirming, tenacious bassline's path that is at the forefront of the track, being amplified but never overshadowed by their signature style pad or sturdy kicks. The 3.5-minute track reaches its climax two-thirds of the way in before slowly beginning to disintegrate and letting the bassline say its last words. “Floodplain” comes out on April 7th, 2023 as Semantica's staggering 143rd release. The LP is available for purchase on vinyl (with the digital files included) via Bandcamp. write up by https://soundcloud.com/sabro96 https://soundcloud.com/artefakt-official https://www.instagram.com/artefaktofficial/ https://soundcloud.com/semantica-records https://www.instagram.com/semantica_records/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_____delayed/ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

INTERVIEW > www.inverted-audio.com/sawlin-subjected Sawlin and Subjected are a production duo from Berlin. Since meeting in 2006 courtesy of fellow producer Mørbeck, they have released definitive techno 12"s on Subjected's self-run imprint Vault Series. As a solo producer Sawlin has also released music on Delsin's sub label Ann Aimee and French label Technorama. With such a strong heritage and stable of releases we caught up with the duo to discuss their affair with techno and reasons for starting up their own record label. The mix was recorded at Subjected's studio in Berlin and is 100% live. Sawlin used Ableton, an APC and an iPad, whilst Subjected used Traktor Pro with a Native Instruments Maschine to generate something completely new for us.
