Tennessee Republican State House Rep. Jody Barrett is proposing legislation that would change the discharge process of individuals who are involuntarily committed to mental health facilities in Tennessee. Under Barrett's bill, the CEO of an inpatient treatment facility would be required to notify the court when an individual is eligible for discharge. The court would hold a hearing and decide whether to release or return a patient. Currently, the courts are not notified. Barrett says the legislation will provide much needed oversight and transparency in the discharge process. Those opposed argue these decisions should be made by medical professionals. They fear the court's involvement could result in longer, unnecessary commitments. In this episode of the Spirit of Bipartisanship, Angie Lawless and Brandon Miller sit down with Republican Rep. Jody Barrett and Democratic Rep. Harold Love to discuss this mental health legislation. Two kinds of fathers are there. The one Heavenly, the other earthly. The Lord of Glory, the Carpenter of Nazareth said:“I AND THE FATHER ARE ONE.”What a claim. Blasphemy by a human being if it were not true. But they were ONE, and the carpenter from Nazareth told us in unequivocal terms that the CREATOR OF THIS UNIVERSE AND OUR EARTH was indeed among so many other things a:FATHERTo Him and to us. For otherwise, this Creator would be completely unknown, incapable of being known by us, but HE is. And, the Supreme Creator loves us and cares for us. To me that is a thought incomprehensible were it not for:HIMOur Lord Jesus Christ took something remote, obscure and unfathomable and made it known, personal, deeply meaningful and loving so that we, the creatures of His creation, could understand who we are, why we are, and what we should believe. We are to understand and believe said Jesus, that there is for us an ETERNAL FATHER and not merely a cosmic Creator. We are known as individuals, as sons and daughters by this Father, and we are not mere specks in the universe or dust in the wind. We have meaning. We are in fact SONS AND DAUGHTERS of this Father having claimed our inheritance as such through the SON Jesus Christ. Hard to comprehend but true.We are also told that God the Father is love. GOD IS LOVE, and that love is the essence of God and so available to us. Love is the greatest says the Scriptures, more so than faith and hope, and to know that God is love incarnate is just incredible. And we who are fathers should love the very same way. Even as the eternal Father loves us, so should we love our children. If a Heavenly Father loves unconditionally, so an earthly father should do the same, love the child unconditionally. The highest attributes of any earthly father are the embracing, heartfelt and unconditional loving openness to the child even as the Father loves the child:LOVE NEVER FAILSBut there is another side of love from our Heavenly Father, a TOUGH LOVE. That is, love at work which is ready to:DISCIPLINELove may indeed be meek, warm, gentle and forgiving, kind and open and it should be. But love must also be tough, demanding, disciplined and concerned for all things which are:RIGHTFor there are indeed prodigal sons and daughters who go astray. As such, they honor not the Heavenly Father nor the earthly. Discipline is required, firm and straight. The rod was used in the old days to accomplish discipline and to carryout punishment. But that has been taken away. Discipline today is more on the order of depriving the child of opportunities and pleasures or requiring the child to make up for the wrong and do what is right. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. But fathers can not SPARE THE ROD however the rod is determined for that is a fatherly duty. No child can grow without discipline for there is nothing worse for a father than a child spoiled and bent upon his own way. Demanding standards, the terms and conditions of sonship, are a father's duty which can not be delegated or ignored. And the Scriptures make it perfectly clear:WHOM THE FATHER LOVES HE CHASTENSChastening is real love at work. BY THEIR FRUITS, LOVING DISCIPLINE AT WORK, YE SHALL KNOW THE FATHER AND WHO THE FATHER TRULY IS.The integrity of the father is critical. Dads must do what they say and dads must say what they mean. The father must live by the same standards he requires of the child. The father must be consistent in character, live a life with values and without hypocrisy. Nothing is harder for a child to accept than lectures about right and wrong from a father who lives by neither. So that, a father does not have to explain or justify the demands. The father does not have to negotiate with the child and in the course of discipline ask the child if it is OK.For it matters not if the child agrees with the father. If a child respects a loving father, that is all that is required. So many families seem to have so little respect for each other and rapidly become dysfunctional. But a true father, a real father is head of household. He is the one in charge, so say the Scriptures, kind, loving, considerate and respectful of all including and especially the wife-mother, but head of the household nonetheless. Discharging all of those functions gives the father the right to discipline and demand. But again, the father has earned that right by the way he lives. When the son is old and ready for his own life, the ways of the father will be his and the son in turn will perpetuate, carryon those values for his family. It is so very important for the father to incorporate the son into his life. To train up the child is to involve the child in the life, the career, the work of the father. So many sons carry on, inherit and follow the father. Father and son, or daughter, work together, learn together and the father teaches in practical ways. What the father holds dear and in which he has invested his life becomes part of the child, a very practical and worthy training for the child. The child can learn the way of business, work, industry so that like father, the child can be:A WORK MAN OR WOMAN WORTHY OF HIS HIREThat kind of fatherly guidance is so very important and it is the duty of the father to invest the time and effort to train up the child in that way.And so with hobbies, and fun. There are games, trips, sports, theater, dining and all manners of wonderful vacation which must be shared by father and child. Life is difficult and even as there are the demands of work, there must be the pleasures of play. To laugh and cry together. To enjoy the joys of this world as God has indicated is our right. Lasting moments are created in fun and play.Father and child are intimate, or should be. Their dialogue, their caring for each other should be totally open, transparent. Nothing should be hidden. The child should have the confidence and the trust in father to openly reveal, discuss hurts, ask questions, confess doubt, challenge beliefs and otherwise make certain that the father fully understands precisely who the child is. For the child develops independently and individually, a special and unique creation by God, and not merely as the earthly father would have him be. The answers to questions should come first from the father, not from peers or school but from DAD. The son should want to talk to father first and be assured that he knows what the father thinks. They can not always agree but father and son can always be open and honest with each other. That seems so lacking today. There is little communication, virtually no dialogue. Father's preach and lecture but seldom practice one of the most important attributes of good fathering:LISTENINGReally listening. Patiently allowing the child to open the heart, to question, to express love and anger and to know as a child the father will listen and respect. That more than anything builds character and confidence in the child. Fathers are friends and confidants. The father in the mind of the child is the first GO-TO.If not, the child seeks FATHER SURROGATES and substitutes. Today's education can often occur without traditional moral values or the standards of old. No third party education is a substitute for a father's education. Children who are fatherless in actuality or spiritually seek comfort, guidance and acceptance from their peers which can often be secular and even with immoral influences. They are ready to learn and adapt, to be accepted in so many ways different from what the father might believe or want for the child. The conduct of the child can then become permissive, even unlawful as standards or morality are worn down and compromised. That fatherless child goes a different way and the father has forsaken the most important duty of fatherhood, training up that child. If you have a child, if you are a biological father, then you must, YOU MUST be a spiritual, loving father as God would have it. Don't send a child to church. Take him. Worship with him. Love together the Lord of Glory. Study Scripture and pray, together. Talk about spiritual things for the child is even more interested in what the father thinks and believes than perhaps a pastor.Take time for the child's life, school events, sports. Be there, lovingly and with respect for the child growing to adult. Nothing means more than a father BEING THERE. That child is YOU, dad. You can not ignore or deny YOU. The child wants YOU more than anything else. There came to you that little bundle of joy, your very own son, your very own daughter, YOU IN EVERY WAY! You are privileged to be a father of that child and he or she should be a clear priority, a first priority. There will never be better earthly love, nothing comes close, than the love of a father for his child. However strong the bond, and even if the father-child bond is broken, in some deep primal way, love is always there, or at least the hope of that love. There is no child, or father however old or hardened who does not feel that way. What a joy, what a privilege to be a father.Even as an adult, well-educated, perhaps successful, father himself, a son will always seek out a father, for fellowship, for advice, for comfort and caring, and for love. That never changes. Even in death, he the father being dead yet speaketh. All he was and all they were together lives on, it is eternal even as the love of God is eternal. The words, the deeds, the loving deeds will never be forgotten. The understanding, the trust and the respect between father and child will never die.Perhaps a father's proudest moment is when the child, adult and ready, leaves the father and becomes his own man. That is a biblical requirement, and at that time, the father should be proud, very proud of the INVESTMENT he has made in the child. For a father can think back, reminisce and remember all of those things which forged the bond, the training, the education and growth of the child, an investment far more valuable than anything financial. That, says dad, is my son. That, says dad, is my daughter of whom I am so very proud. He or she was worth everything I gave. The loving bond between father and child will sustain, motivate and guide the child for a lifetime. It is the earthly component of the Heavenly Father. What a privilege it is to be a father. So, I and my company the Crawford Broadcasting Company salute fathers, real fathers who love, educate, grow and train up their children in the way in which they should go. You are special, dads like that, very special. The world needs real fathers now more than ever. And, what is so wonderful is that it is never too late to be father no matter what has gone before. Fathering may ebb and flow but the opportunity is always there, always. Never quit, never give up on fathering. So, enjoy your day DAD. Father's Day can show love and respect for dad one day. But real fathers are honored by their children every day. For the most priceless thing any child can have is:A LOVING FATHER!

Despite ongoing staffing struggles, the Defence Force has continued to discharge personnel for failing to get the Covid vaccine. The case of Bonnie, a medic at Burnham Army Camp who was dismissed for not getting vaccinated, has caught media attention. This comes after the Court of Appeal ruled that the Defence Force's 'mandatory retention reviews' were unlawful. Lawyer Matthew Hague says these 'rigid' mandates are costing people their careers and jobs. "To impose a blanket requirement across the entire Defence Force of 10,000 people and rigidly subject people to mandatory retention reviews is completely unjustified." There is perhaps no experience more visceral and soul-consuming than shame. And shame is opportunistic—it can enter our lives and bodies not only through things we've done, but by things done to us. Further, we can often feel absolutely powerless in the face of shame. But we do not have to resign ourselves to hopelessness. A life of flourishing of freedom is available. It requires courage and practices for engaging shame discharge. In this episode, we cover some simple—but not simplistic—practices for discharging shame and living in freedom, authenticity, and resilience.

Zion Baptist Church's history is rooted in the separation from First Baptist Church in Marietta, where segregated services began when a young girl named Dicey became the first African-American member. The museum aims to preserve this history for future generations, emphasizing the connection between the past and present. The church continues to host events during Black History Month to educate its members, particularly the youth, about their heritage and the struggles of the past. The museum and church stand as living witnesses to the significant moments that shaped Marietta's Black community. STORY 5: Fulton Prosecutor Avoids Testifying in Divorce Case Due to Temporary Agreement A divorce hearing in the case of Fulton County special prosecutor Nathan Wade, accused of an affair with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, was canceled as the couple reached a temporary settlement. The agreement addresses temporary issues like fee payments and asset use but leaves final matters unresolved. Wade avoided testifying this week, and future developments may include a full settlement or trial. The divorce case intertwines with the racketeering case filed against former President Donald Trump, where allegations of an improper relationship between Willis and Wade have surfaced. Subpoenas target Willis and Wade for a Feb. 15 hearing. We'll be back in a moment. Break: INGLES 10 STORY 6: Cobb Commission Approves Land Swap to Protect Dobbins Air Reserve Base The Cobb Board of Commissioners reversed its decision to terminate a land swap agreement with Venture Properties, allowing the potential construction of condos in the accident potential zone of Dobbins Air Reserve Base. The 5-0 vote approved the swap, exchanging county-owned land off Terrell Mill Road with Venture's property on Leland Drive. The latter property falls within Dobbins' accident zone, where residential development is discouraged. The Cobb Department of Transportation plans to build a satellite facility on the Leland Drive property, costing over $3 million. A prior rezoning for condos faced backlash, with critics concerned about jeopardizing the base during future Base Realignment and Closure reviews. STORY 7: Gov. Kemp Signs New Cobb School Board Map into Law Governor Brian Kemp signed into law State Senator Ed Setzler's redrawn map of the Cobb County Board of Education's boundaries. Setzler's map replaces the one discarded by U.S. District Court Judge Eleanor Ross in December, following a lawsuit alleging racial gerrymandering. Setzler provided the data set for the new map to the Cobb Board of Elections, which is expected to implement it for this year's elections. Qualifying for four of the seven seats on the school board begins in March. Setzler believes the lawsuit is no longer relevant, and his map complies with the spirit of Judge Ross's order. Critics, including the Georgia Youth Justice Coalition, contend that the redrawn map employs gerrymandering to favor white supremacy. ***LIVE READ GCPS*** Hey, Cobb County! Third-Party Beneficiaries. Introduction to Third-Party Beneficiaries. In contract law, a third-party beneficiary is an individual or entity who benefits from a contract between two other parties but is not one of the contracting parties themselves. The distinction between intended and incidental beneficiaries is critical: Intended Beneficiary: Someone the contract was specifically designed to benefit, giving them the legal right to enforce the contract. Incidental Beneficiary: Someone who benefits from the contract indirectly but has no legal right to enforce it. Rights of Intended Beneficiaries. Understanding the rights and obligations of intended third-party beneficiaries is crucial: Enforcement Rights: Intended beneficiaries typically have the right to enforce the contract and seek remedies for breach. Defenses: Contracting parties can raise defenses against intended beneficiaries if those defenses align with the parties' agreement. Landmark Case: Lawrence v Fox (1859). In Lawrence v Fox, the court recognized the rights of intended third-party beneficiaries. The case involved a contract for the sale of a horse between A and B, with the understanding that the horse would be delivered to C. C was considered an intended beneficiary and could enforce the contract. Privity of Contract. Understanding the concept of privity of contract is essential for comprehending third-party beneficiary rights: Traditional Rule: Privity traditionally held that only parties in a direct contractual relationship could enforce or be held liable under the contract. Departure with Third-Party Beneficiaries: The recognition of third-party beneficiaries represents a departure from the privity doctrine. Assignment of Contractual Rights and Delegation of Duties. Assignment of Contractual Rights. Assigning contractual rights involves transferring one's rights under a contract to another party, known as the assignee: Requirements for Valid Assignment: Generally requires a written agreement, an intention to make the assignment, and notification to the other party. Rights of the Assignee: Once rights are assigned, the assignee typically has the right to enforce those rights against the obligor. Revocability: Assignments are often revocable unless they are accompanied by consideration or are expressly irrevocable. Delegation of Duties. Delegating duties involves transferring one's obligations under a contract to another party, known as the delegatee: Requirements for Valid Delegation: A valid delegation does not significantly change the obligor's duties and does not violate the terms of the contract. Liability of the Delegator: The delegator remains liable to the original obligee unless the contract expressly releases them from liability. Novation. Novation involves substituting a new party for one of the original parties to the contract, with the consent of all parties involved: Discharging the Original Party: In a novation, the original party is discharged from their obligations, and the new party assumes them. Conclusion. A comprehensive understanding of third-party beneficiary rights and the assignment of contractual rights and delegation of duties is vital for law students and legal practitioners. By recognizing when third-party beneficiaries have enforceable rights, understanding the principles of valid assignments and delegations, and grasping the concept of novation, students and lawyers can provide valuable legal counsel in complex contract-related matters. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/law-school/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/law-school/support
In the unfolding narrative of the Biden administration, there has been a noted decrease in the number of people eager to join the U.S. armed forces. The core reason seems to be a growing perception of the military as a political proxy rather than a neutral defender of our nation. Indeed, the usual enthusiasm for potentially serving on foreign soils appears reduced. In response to this, the Department of Defense (DoD) is acting swiftly to rectify a mistake that seems to have exacerbated this decline in recruitment, marking a significant development in its COVID-19 vaccination policy. Recently, the DoD decided to rethink its previous insistence on compulsory COVID-19 vaccinations among personnel. Over the past days, numerous letters have been sent to previously dismissed service members, who left their posts due to their reluctance to comply with the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination protocol. The contents of these letters suggest a viable path for these ex-service members via the Army Discharge Review Board or the Army Board for Correction of Military Records to alter their personal records. The aforementioned letter, bearing the signature of Brigadier General Hope C. Rampy, U.S. Army Director of the Military Personnel Management Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, underlines a significant policy shift.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Welcome to Walk Together Fiercely Podcast where today we are joined by the incredibly wise, Sri Madhu Sai, a former Monk, a certified Yoga Therapist, Registered Clinical Counsellor, Vedic Astrologer, founder of the Happyness Centre in Kamloops, BC, and all around amazing and wise being, who shares so much on the journey of transcendence, going deeper within ourselves and to better understand who we are. Madhu Sai says that unless we can learn, that we don't really move forward in life and we learn through the challenges that are presented to us and how we move through the discomfort. How we discharge the negative and we charge the positive and embrace all of it, knowing that we are both. Madhu Sai will tell you that fear thoughts NEVER come from your true self, and that when you go deeper, when you know your true self, that we can understand that and practice that, the challenges become more and more impersonal and more bearable and from that place, we can see truth, we can come back to truth. All learning is unlearning. When you know more about yourself, you begin to unlearn old patterns, while learning new ones. Discharging and recharging, what a beautiful process! Licensed mechanical engineer Tony Amadio joins the podcast to talk about residential exhaust codes and best practices. He also put together a presentation about the topic, which you can view at https://hvacrschool.com/exhaust. When choosing duct materials for residential exhaust, you will want to stick to sheet metal and mind the gauge; flex ductwork can easily be damaged and will rack up a high total equivalent length in a way that sheet metal will not. Exhaust air should always discharge outdoors, not into an attic or crawl space, and that air needs to be replaced by air entering the conditioned space; makeup air is the air we draw in to replace the exhausted air, and we need appropriate undercuts to make sure we're getting the right amount of makeup air. Domestic cooking exhaust may also come in a few different varieties, each of which has different code requirements (with downdrafts needing much more CFM per ASHRAE). Range hood shape is also important for capturing as many particles as possible, but makeup air kits are usually unnecessary (and could be more of a hassle than they're worth). When it comes to bathroom exhaust, the CFM requirements differ between residential and light commercial, as well as intermittent and continuous exhaust. Steam generators may also be present, and they require extra consideration. Tony and Bryan also cover: Tony's education and career background Discharging and terminating exhaust air Insect screens Makeup air in light commercial applications Clothing dryer vs. bathroom vents Ductless clothes dryers and condensate piping Home Ventilation Institute (HVI) guidelines Pressure imbalance in a structure Residential vs. light commercial bathroom exhaust Static pressure, blower sizing, and exhaust duct sizing You can ask Tony questions by email at anthony.amadio@peloadcalcs.com. Something I feel extremely passionate about in my life & truly the reason I do everything I do between my work with Cannabis, the podcasts, etc., is to give people the opportunity to liberate themselves. I see life like a video game & the main challenge amongst this reality is that most of us believe we know the rules of the game called life, yet, as you'll recognize after hearing today's conversation, the amount we don't know about how to truly thrive within this world is absolutely mind-boggling &, to be in alignment with this show, is also quite psychedelic when you sink into what all you'll be hearing today can be applied to your life. Today's guest on the show is a man who I found not because of psychedelics, but because of the subject of sovereignty. He is the owner & founder of “Onestupidfuck”, which is a business dedicated to supplying the world with the true history behind money, banking, law & more. Expressing Feelings When Systems Fail and Frustrate Us I had a meltdown after reaching my frustration limit. Jen & I discuss how to discharge frustration, while navigating inefficient systems. What prevents us from speaking up, and our concern about how we are perceived. How to advocate for yourself, and get support from others, especially when you're dysregulated. How do you stay grounded and focused on getting your needs met when things are breaking down? We also discuss how much healing we've done in our friendship, and how setting boundaries builds trust. CO-HOST Jen Perry, MSEd, MA, LPC HIGHLIGHTS Allowing oneself and others to fully experience and express emotions without judgment or shame has benefits. Brene Brown's video on blaming offers insight into why people sometimes blame others instead of expressing emotions. Discharging emotions in a healthy way, such as through howling or other outlets, can release pent-up energy. Connection in relationships is prioritized over calmness, and supporting others' emotions is important. Advocating for personal needs and setting boundaries is crucial in medical settings. Seeking support from trusted friends or a support system when overwhelmed is valuable. Expressing emotions responsibly can lead to less distress and better emotional well-being. Suppressing emotions can result in anxiety, depression, or chronic stress. Patricia reflects on her upbringing where emotions were often suppressed, while Jen encourages her children to express their feelings. Navigating frustrations and meltdowns can teach resilience, patience, and personal growth. PODCAST HOST Patricia was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but is now exclusively providing coaching. She knows what it's like to feel like an outcast, misfit, and truthteller. Learning about the trait of being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), then learning she is neurodivergent helped Patricia rewrite her history with a deeper understanding, appreciation, and a sense of self-compassion. She created the podcast Unapologetically Sensitive to help other neurodivergent folks know that they aren't alone, and that having a brain that is wired differently comes with amazing gifts, and some challenges. Patricia works online globally working individually with people, and she teaches Online Courses for HSPs that focus on understanding what it means to be an HSP, self-care, self-compassion, boundaries, perfectionism, mindfulness, communication, and creating a lifestyle that honors you CO-HOST BIO Jen Perry, MSEd, MA, LPC has been a psychotherapist for 20 years. She specializes in helping Highly Sensitive People thrive in love, work, and parenting Highly Sensitive Children. Jen is passionate about using mindfulness and compassion-based approaches to ameliorate human suffering. The highest attributes of any earthly father are the embracing, heartfelt and unconditional loving openness to the child even as the Father loves the child:LOVE NEVER FAILS But there is another side of love from our Heavenly Father, a TOUGH LOVE. Talk about spiritual things for the child is even more interested in what the father thinks and believes than perhaps a pastor. Take time for the child's life, school events, sports.

This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher Aristotle's work of moral theory, the Nicomachean Ethics. Specifically it focuses on Aristotle's Rhetoric, and examines his discussion in book 2 about a dynamic he identifies, where a person who is angry with one person may become less so, or entirely calm, when they discharge or expend their anger against another person To support my ongoing work, go to my Patreon site - www.patreon.com/sadler If you'd like to make a direct contribution, you can do so here - www.paypal.me/ReasonIO - or at BuyMeACoffee - www.buymeacoffee.com/A4quYdWoM You can find over 2000 philosophy videos in my main YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/user/gbisadler Purchase Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics - amzn.to/30S00ZT

Entrepreneurs need to create a mental health plan, the same as you create a business plan. No matter how great your business plan is, you will not succeed without a healthy mind. In order to succeed in life and business, every entrepreneur needs a mental health plan. Why, because your thoughts influence your emotions, which influence your behaviors, which in turn influence your outcomes. The healthier your mind, body, and soul connection, the better your business will develop and the better your relationships will be. It is difficult to manage your mental health and well-being while running your own business. There is an intersection between business and mental health. Every entrepreneur needs a mental health plan to avoid burnout. Factors contributing to mental health challenges, hitting a wall, or becoming burnt out throughout entrepreneurial journeys include: High achieving mindset Perfectionism Isolation and loneliness Don't delegate soon enough resulting in burnout It is the cumulative impact of running a business without taking care of yourself. Self-care is a complex concept, especially for high-achieving, busy women. Listen to Episode 126 with Sara Palmer. There is a baseline level of activation in our nervous system that makes us who we are and to have the ability to handle the stresses we are faced with. We all have a baseline level of tolerance and if we are always at the top level of this tolerance when life gets overwhelming, we peak over our personal level of tolerance. This results in burnout. Every entrepreneur needs a mental health plan that includes inexpensive and easy-to-accomplish and repeat self-care ideas: It is important to be able to regulate our level of stress to keep it within our level of tolerance. An idea for self-care to keep you in a positive mental state and be able to handle stresses that arise is to set a timer for every hour. When the timer rings, stand up, stretch, and look out the window. Micro-moments of self-care and regulation of the nervous system are powerful. We all need small doable things that we can do repeatedly. Stimulate creativity and focus with self-care activities When you take a moment to enjoy the world around you, you not only reset your nervous system and mindset but also stimulate your creativity. This will also help us focus on tasks ahead. Listen to episode 171 with Alex on creativity. Steps to create, implement and adhere to a mental health plan Similar to the key performance indicators you have in business, there are lead and Lag indicators for mental health. Lag indicator Impact, effect, or result of lead indicators Lead indicator Tasks and strategies you implement Recognizing lag indicators – signs and symptoms – that reflect something going on in your life or business yesterday, last week, or cumulatively over time Examples of lag indicators Inability to sleep Panic attacks Difficulty focusing Inability to make decisions Examples of Lead indicators High-stress level Lost a client A dip in revenue Lag indicators help you identify how you are doing well or not doing well with your mental health. Lead indicators are your self-care practices For example, if you are used to running every day but haven't run this week, and you notice that all of a sudden you feel more anxious, aren't sleeping, etc, you realize that you haven't run and that has caused the additional anxiety. Identify your lead indicators, the things that make you feel good, and do a check-in regularly. Look at the results you are getting with the efforts you are putting in. How are you feeling today, what have I been doing, and what has led me to feel this way, good or bad? This insight will help you do more of what is making you feel good and less of what is making you feel less than good. Your thoughts create your feelings Fifty percent of people's distress is caused by what they tell themselves. You can alleviate this by doing a weekly review of how you've felt. For example, if you lost a big client, you can associate that with not feeling good, being anxious, or being down. A lead indicator is something that happens that affects your mood or feelings. Tips for getting back to who you are at the core People are unique and what works for one person may not work for another. Therefore, it is necessary for you to look at your lead indicators and identify what soothes your nervous system, mind, body, and spirit, what nourishes your nervous system, and what discharges thoughts and feelings. Even though every entrepreneur needs a mental health plan, navigating mental health is not a one-size-fits-all. It is a customized individual approach. Robyn shared that her morning practice, is devotions, journaling, reading, and exercise and this helps her stay soothed and nourished. Soothing has to do with invoking the relaxation response, down-regulating the nervous system. Anything that makes you go ahh. Nourishment is a broad category and includes physiological, mental, and spiritual. What uplifts and energizes you and gives you a sense of meaning and connection? Discharging is related to physical movement because stress activates the body to react physiologically. Emotion is the need to be in motion to discharge emotions. Spirituality and mental health for entrepreneurs Faith can be a foundation for everything that we do. Do you feel like something is missing? You do all the things, but there is an ache in your heart, a feeling that you need something more. Even if you don't have a religious affiliation, you can associate these feelings with needing meaning and purpose, or with values. The arc of the universe bends towards justice. – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Finding a foundation of meaning, purpose, and values will help you feel grounded and be able to navigate life and business challenges more positively. This helps us get excited about bringing our values into the world. Having a that there is a greater source in the world is helpful for when the going gets tough. Then you aren't alone in the dark when things get tough. God's hand is present in our neighbor, the sunshine, your pets, etc. Opening your eyes to these presences in the world will nourish you. The importance of values and entrepreneurship Robyn emphasized how important values are. When you are aligned with your values, you experience less stress and anxiety when making decisions. Moral injury is a phrase in the mental health industry that reflects the response people have when they have been forced to live in malalignment with their values. This is traumatic and can lead to burnout and PTSD. If we live by and display our values, we will attract the right people and clients, make better decisions, and feel much better at the end of the day. Mental health and being the CEO of your business CEO self refers to the neuropsychology of mental health. When we are within our window tolerance level, our pre-frontal cortex – the CEO self – is where are higher functions reside. Our creativity, problem-solving, and moral reasoning. When our baseline level of activation goes out of our range of tolerance, our prefrontal cortex stops communicating with the rest of the brain and we lose access to our CEO self, our creativity, our wisdom, and our sense of connectedness. When we can regulate the nervous system, we can access the best of us, our hearts and minds. As entrepreneurs, we have to understand many aspects of our business, marketing, sales, financials, how to manage people, etc. This is an enormous cognitive load, and we need our CEO self available for all of this. Robyn mentioned negativity bias, the way our brain is more likely to hold onto and look for negative things than positive things. The amygdala in the limbic brain works overtime with the flight, fight, or freeze mechanism. Creating a mental health plan will keep your CEO-self healthy and permit you to move forward in your business.
