This week's Throwback Thursday episode was originally released on July 15th, 2024, and features Ace Enders of The Early November discussing the writing and recording of the fan-favorite single “Decoration,” from the band's ambitious 2006 triple album The Mother, The Mechanic, And The Path, which is an album the band will be touring in celebration of this February and March 2026 alongside Hellogoodbye and Punchline. Hailing from that sprawling concept record, “Decoration” captures a raw, vintage essence that continues to resonate deeply with listeners, and Ace dives into how the song came together both lyrically and sonically. It's a thoughtful, behind-the-scenes look at one of The Early November's most beloved songs and a Throwback Thursday episode you won't want to miss. By 2002, things had kicked into high gear for Punchline. They had decided to pursue music full-time, and relentless touring soon followed. Grassroots promotion and a DIY outlook had helped them gain a strong following, especially in their hometown of Pittsburgh, and a follow-up to 2001's Major Motion Picture album was the next step. The 4 musically ambitious tracks on The Rewind EP would help propel Punchline to the next level, and they soon signed to a growing independent record label. The excitement and spirit of this era is captured by the band members and a variety of friends in this episode. Subscribe to A Band Called Punchline wherever you get your podcasts. This week's Throwback Thursday was originally released on May 30th, 2022, as Episode 105 of Chris DeMakes A Podcast, and it features a conversation with Reese Roper of Five Iron Frenzy about the song “Zen and the Art of Xenophobia.” Chris and Reese unpack how the song came together, why humor and sarcasm were essential tools for tackling heavier themes like faith, hypocrisy, and cultural frustration, and what was happening creatively for the band at the time. It's an interesting look at the mindset behind one of Five Iron Frenzy's most talked-about songs, making this episode a fun listen for fans of thoughtful, socially aware songwriting. In this episode, Chris sits down with Ryan Key of Yellowcard to explore the band's surreal return after what had once been a definitive breakup. Ryan reflects on the emotional and creative spark that led to their comeback single “Better Days” and explains how collaborating with Travis Barker brought a fresh perspective to the studio. He shares how an open and experimental approach shaped the songwriting, why vulnerability fueled some of his strongest vocal work to date, and how kindness within the band has been essential to their evolution. The conversation also looks at the growing generational crossover in their audience, with new fans singing alongside longtime listeners while Yellowcard stays true to the sound that first defined them. Spoiler alert: women have more testosterone than estrogen, and when those levels drop during perimenopause and menopause, it affects more than just libido. Brain fog, disrupted sleep, stubborn belly fat, and a feeling of losing strength and vitality are common symptoms. While men have had access to testosterone therapy for decades, women have been left in the dark until now. Shalin explains the importance of testosterone for various bodily functions, debunks myths that prevent proper treatment, and shares the revolutionary science behind the first effective oral testosterone therapy that aligns with the body's natural rhythms.Episodes Overview (timestamps are approximate):(0:00) Intro/Teaser(3:00) Understanding Testosterone in Men and Women(6:00) Clinical Signs and Symptoms of Low Testosterone(11:00) Testing and Diagnosing Testosterone Levels(13:00) Challenges in Hormone Therapy for Women(21:00) Environmental and Lifestyle Factors Affecting Testosterone(23:00) Increasing Natural Testosterone Levels(30:00) Modes of Testosterone Delivery(35:00) Female Hormone Therapy: Standardized Dosing(39:00) Debunking Myths About Testosterone(44:00) Dosage and Monitoring for Testosterone Therapy(51:00) Challenges in Accessing Hormone Therapy(54:00) Global Availability and Future of Oral Testosterone(58:00) The After-Party with Dr. StephanieResources mentioned in this episode can be found at: https://drstephanieestima.com/podcasts/ep451/We couldn't do it without our sponsors:TIMELINE - A new year means a new gym membership - but you can't out-train low energy; it starts deeper than that. This week, Hit the Lights vocalist Nick Thompson joins the show to discuss the writing and recording of the band's beloved 2006 single “Bodybag.” With tongue-in-cheek lyrics paying tribute to the beatdown hardcore bands that inspired Nick and his bandmates during their formative years in the Ohio suburbs, the song captures the spirit of that era perfectly. Combined with its catchy melodies, memorable guitar riffs, and slick Matt Squire production, “Bodybag” has stood the test of time and continues to resonate with fans decades later. She shows the powerful moment when Nicki Minaj has an awkward flub with Erika Kirk and Kirk's graceful reaction, Minaj's powerful message to girls everywhere that got Vice President JD Vance's attention, plus JD Vance and Jasmine Crockett's war of words, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries lashing out on the Somali story, and Hunter Biden talking immigration. In the final episode of their four-part December series, Chris DeMakes and Chris Fafalios wrap things up with Elton John's festive classic “Step Into Christmas.” They talk about the song's spontaneous feel, the lighthearted lyrics, and the unmistakable style shaped by Elton's longtime collaborators Gus Dudgeon and Bernie Taupin. The conversation touches on the Phil Spector-inspired wall of sound production, the standout bass line, and that gloriously chaotic outro that perfectly captures the energy of early '70s rock. From its iconic music video to its unexpected return to the charts decades later, this episode celebrates how “Step Into Christmas” became one of the all-time holiday favorites. In the 1981 holiday season, The Waitresses delivered a refreshingly offbeat gift with their single “Christmas Wrapping.” Written by Chris Butler, who openly admitted his dislike for the holidays, the song was pieced together from leftover riffs and lyrics he scribbled down in a taxi on the way to the studio. With Patty Donahue's cool, talk-sing delivery and a groove that blended sarcasm with sincerity, the track perfectly captured the chaotic mix of exhaustion and joy that defines the season. Though it was only a modest hit at first, “Christmas Wrapping” has since become a perennial favorite, standing tall among the countless festive tunes that come and go each year. In this episode, Chris DeMakes and Chris Fafalios unpack what makes this unlikely holiday anthem continue to resonate more than four decades later. For this week's Throwback Thursday, we're revisiting Episode 185 from December 11th, 2023. In this episode, Eric Bazilian makes his triumphant return to the show, this time to dive into the fascinating backstory of his iconic song “One Of Us,” made famous by Joan Osborne in 1995. Eric recounts the spontaneous genesis of the track, revealing that he composed it in a single night after his then-girlfriend expressed interest in his recording process. Despite some controversy about the song from a few dimwits of the era, it has endured and continues to resonate today. To add a special touch, Eric even breaks out the very acoustic guitar used in the song's recording, offering an extra layer of authenticity to this can't-miss episode. Darlene Love's 1963 classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” remains one of the most beloved holiday songs of all time, but it wasn't an instant hit. Produced by Phil Spector, the track eventually found success thanks to its heartfelt lyrics and Love's powerful performance, though it took years to catch on. Its release was also overshadowed by the tragic timing of the JFK assassination, which happened on the same day the album came out. Still, the song proves that truly great music always finds a way, and this week, Chris DeMakes and Chris Fafalios explore its backstory, creation, and the musical magic that has kept it a holiday staple for six decades.
