In this episode, Millencolin vocalist and bassist Nikola Šarčević discusses the writing and recording of the band's fan-favorite 2000 single "No Cigar." Nikola shares insights into the band's journey from their Swedish roots to their rise in the punk rock scene, propelled by their signing with Epitaph Records and the influence of skate culture. He reflects on the last-minute songwriting process for "No Cigar," which was written just hours before recording, and talks about the boost it received from being featured in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Alex is back from vacation and has stories — including a rental car incident and thoughts on saving pool chairs (is it ever OK?). Plus, Gov. Cox eases Utah's default fireworks ban ahead of Pioneer Day, returning the decision to individual cities while the state forester can still restrict high-risk areas. We break down what that means for the 24th. Also: the internet's new obsession — Jimothy, a raccoon with a short spine syndrome who's taken over Seattle (and our feeds). KSL Brightside streams live weekdays 12–3 PM. YouTube-exclusive live stream from 12–1 PM; radio plus YouTube from 1–3 PM.

Smash Mouth made an instant impact with the release of their 1997 debut single “Walkin' On the Sun.” The song had a unique throwback vibe that stood out, not only from the other songs on the Fush Yu Mang album, but also from the band's radio and MTV contemporaries. What became a launchpad for a huge career started as a years-old forgotten cassette demo in a closet, and in this episode, Smash Mouth guitarist Great Camp makes his return to the show to share how this unforgettable track came to be. If you've ever dismissed a sauna as a spa luxury, this episode will change your mind. In this episode, Connie Zack, co-founder of Sunlighten, breaks down how infrared light interacts with the body at the cellular level — and why it's genuinely different from just getting hot. Connie covers all four wavelengths, the SoloCarbon blood pressure trials, why deliberately exposing yourself to heat can actually reduce hot flash frequency, how infrared shifts you from sympathetic to parasympathetic in minutes, and the full case for sauna as passive cardio. She also gets into the practical stuff: minimum effective dose, habit stacking, morning vs. evening, hydration, and what to expect in week one versus week 100. Emerging as a sort of supergroup of Bay Area punk rockers in the early 2000s, The Plus Ones wrote catchy songs that weren't overthought by any means. After a four album stint in The Mr. T Experience, bassist Joel Reader formed the group, and one of the first songs he brought to the table was “All the Boys,” a fictional look at what playing at The Troubadour might be like for a stereotypical rock n' roller. To the band's surprise, they later received a call from Asian Man Records owner Mike Park informing them that the track was going to be used on a popular network TV show. In this episode, Joel discusses the writing and recording of the song, as well as the vivid memory of experiencing their music through a scripted television teen drama. Did you survive the Fourth without personal fireworks? Today we recap our parade experience and want to hear how YOU celebrated America's 250th — then we dig into the fires that broke out despite Utah's statewide ban: a brush fire in Provo's Slate Canyon, a "near-total loss" at the original Costa Vida in Layton after a suspected firework fire collapsed the roof and caused over $1M in damage, and a Kaysville brush fire started by young adults shooting bottle rockets at each other. And of course, THE wedding — Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tied the knot July 3 at Madison Square Garden with Adam Sandler officiating, Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks performing, and Chiefs coach Andy Reid (who was in Utah this weekend narrating for the Tabernacle Choir's America 250 broadcast) sharing Sandler's best marriage advice: "Keep kissing." What Does America's 250th Birthday Mean for Its Future and Our Faith? To celebrate America's 250th birthday, Curtis Chang is joined by his The After Party partners David French and Russell Moore to ask how Christians should think about patriotism, democracy, and national identity in a divisive age. Comparing the optimism of the 1976 Bicentennial with today's fractured political climate, they explore America's founding ideals, the promises and failures of liberty and equality, the relationship between Christianity and the American experiment, and the dangers of Christian nationalism. Together, they answer listener questions and offer a vision for faithful civic engagement — one marked by gratitude without idolatry, honesty without despair, and allegiance to Christ above every nation. 00:34 - Introduction to America's 250th Birthday 02:07 - Comparing the 250th with the Bicentennial 09:18 - America's Gifts to the World 16:16 - Was America Founded as a Christian Nation? 25:13 - The Pull of Christian Nationalism 29:29 - Project 2025 & What True American Renewal Requires 36:07 - A Bottom Up Christian Influence on Government 40:30 - Politics is Downstream from Culture 45:14 - Guidance for Pastors on the 250th 48:24 - America's Historical Role in the World 52:22 - Defining Christian Patriotism 58:03 - A Closing Prayer For Our Country Sign up for The After Party More to Listen to: Good Faith 199 – David French asks: What the Heck Is a Christian Nationalist? In wild animal news, a string of alligator attacks in Florida has left three people injured and one dead after a 31-year-old woman was killed while swimming in a river near Orlando. We also have a local wildlife alert: HawkWatch International's Harris's Hawk, Stax, has escaped and was last seen near their Salt Lake City offices. If you spot him, contact @hawkwatch on Instagram! Speaking of hawks — Alex shares his experience with hawks. KSL Brightside streams live weekdays 12–3 PM. The feeling of being overwhelmed is something that Sincere Engineer's Deanna Belos can tell you all about. She began her somewhat unexpected music career during a real crossroads in her life, in which she was deciding whether or not to pursue a career in the world of dentistry. It was around this time that she met producer Matt Jordan, who not only helped Deanna reach her musical potential, but also introduced her to the fellow musicians who would become the band. The song “Trust Me” was born out of this era, and within a few years, it was Sincere Engineer's set closer on the main stage at Lollapalooza. This week, Deanna sits in to discuss the writing and recording of the song that has become one of the band's signature tracks. Happy Monday! We're counting down to the country's biggest birthday yet — America is about to turn 250, and the celebration plans are massive. Alex breaks down his America 250 list. Then, Disneyland's iconic Autopia ride — the only original 1955 Tomorrowland attraction still standing — is being forced by California to ditch gas-powered cars and go electric by early 2027 or shut down entirely. And in what might be the greatest act of public shame in sports history, South Korea's national broadcaster KBS blurred out head coach Hong Myung-bo's face during his press conference after the team's World Cup exit. Oh, and fireworks are still banned in Utah... but some cities are finding spots to do them. KSL Brightside streams live weekdays 12–3 PM. He pays homage to the late Jerry Finn, emphasizing Finn's significant contributions to the song's creation. Furthermore, Matt shares the inspiration behind the lyrics, including the surprising, never-before-told backstory behind the infamous "hide the cutlery" line. It's a wild one on KSL Brightside today — literally. We kick things off with a bobcat found inside an apartment. Then, dramatic photos show teenagers hanging out of the windows of a self-driving Waymo robotaxi during rush-hour traffic on Olympic Boulevard in Santa Monica — taking selfies while onlookers pleaded with them to get back inside. We break down what went wrong and the safety questions around driverless vehicles. Plus, what would Madison Square Garden actually look like as a wedding venue? Rumors continue to fly about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding location. And we end with some viral videos: a woman gets fired from her job after being caught stealing a Knicks-themed trash can, and a pilot celebrates his final flight with his daughter riding along as co-pilot. What do Saltair, Antelope Island, and Liberty Park's amusement park have in common? They all have one-star reviews. We dive into the most brutal one-star reviews of Utah landmarks, including the Tooele aviation marker and debate whether these spots are truly overrated or just misunderstood. Plus, the 2026 World Cup's Adidas Trionda match ball is packed with sensors that transmit data 500 times per second… and yes, it has to be plugged in and charged before every game. Then, the median age for a first-time homebuyer just hit 40 — an all-time high — so we're making it our personal mission to help Caitlyn beat the average (even if Ethan has to cover the down payment). And Commodore is back with the Callback 8020, a $500 retro flip phone designed for digital detox that blocks social media but still runs WhatsApp. KSL Brightside streams live weekdays 12–3 PM, with a YouTube-exclusive live stream from 12–1 PM and radio plus YouTube from 1–3 PM.
War On Women are generally known for the politically charged subject matter of their songs, but with the 2026 single “Messages Unsent”, the band couldn't resist the pull of what has inspired musicians and songwriters since the dawn of time: LOVE. Two different types of love came together to inspire vocalist Shawna Potter's lyrics, both the romantic kind that she feels for her partner, as well as the unconditional affection she has for her dog Rosie. In this episode, she discusses how the song came to be, which despite its departure from the band's usual themes, still packs the powerful punch that fans have come to expect from War On Women's musical output. If you've tried therapy, medication, journaling, and every mindset tool available — and you're still anxious — this episode is for you. Dr. Russell Kennedy, physician, neuroscientist, and certified trauma therapist, makes the case that anxiety doesn't start in your mind. It starts in your body, as a physiological alarm that's likely been there since childhood. And until you address the alarm directly, you're only ever managing symptoms. Dr. Kennedy explores why perimenopause turns up the volume on anxiety that felt manageable before, why overachievement is just another way of outrunning the alarm, and what you can actually do — today — to start healing from the body up. Fair warning: Dr. Kennedy takes Dr. Stephanie through a live exercise to find her body alarm. There were tears in the production room.
In this episode of KSL Brightside, Alex and Ethan talk about their Father’s Day. We talk protein and the resurgence of cottage cheese consumption. We also discuss the best Cottage Cheese additions.

Allie was joined by Megan Basham, culture reporter for the Daily Wire, to discuss her investigation into the After Party, a curriculum written by Curtis Chang, David French, and Russell Moore, which is being pushed onto churches in an effort to bring Christians of different political backgrounds together. Megan shares how this curriculum not only fails at its objective but is funded by secular progressives: Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. We discuss why Rockefeller's interest in bankrolling Bible studies is a red flag, including the fact that among the other initiatives funded are organizations that are pro-LGBTQ and pro-abortion. What's in the After Party curriculum and what message is it really sending? We also look at the "AND Campaign" and how it is also funded by the Rockefellers. We explain how politics is a way to love our neighbor and why getting it right matters for the church. --- Timecodes: (01:12) What is The After Party? / Rockefeller funding (07:50) What are their motivations?
