In this episode, I talk sat down with Rhea Mehta. Let me tell you. Rhea is one smart (and inspiring) cookie. She’s a molecular toxicologist - a word I can barely pronounce! I love Rhea because not only is she so smart, but she’s relatable. We all have a story, and I was so inspired by how she’s using her own to make a difference and inspire others. She is a healthcare innovator and the CEO of Bowhead Health, an encrypted health wallet and data sharing platform that enables users to become the managers and vendors of their own data. Rhea has a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Waterloo, a PhD in Molecular Toxicology and Nutritional Biochemistry from the University of Toronto, and is a certified health coach with over 10 years of experience in scientific research and integrative healthcare practice. Rhea also has several years experience in community design and co-creation. She co-founded Reset, a Toronto-based adult summer camp and digital detox and is the founder of Global Smoothie Day, a movement to inspire health ownership. She also serves as an ambassador of Sandbox, a mobile society of trailblazers using technology and conversation to create a better world. Rhea currently sits on the industry advisory board of McGill’s Masters of Management in Analytics program and is a contributing author of the Huffington Post and Mind Body Green. We talk about: What the hell molecular toxicology is The impact of the standard american diet How hitting rock bottom with her health is when she made the shift How our daily behaviors impact our wellness Bridging the gap and creating a dialogue between Eastern and Western medicine Getting back to nature And how her company puts patients in the drivers seat of their health by giving them control over their data www.livingrhea.com www.bowheadhealth.com
While it may not always be visible to the eye toxins are everywhere in our homes, and they can hurt our health over time. Olessa Pindak, mindbodygreen's CCO, sat down with Rhea Mehta, Ph.D., molecular toxicologist, and the CEO and Co-Founder of Bowhead Health on the mbgpodcast to talk about how to clean up our physical spaces for better health. As a scientist with a Ph.D. in Molecular Toxicology and Nutritional Biochemistry, she’s been trained to test different variables and monitor the reaction. For example, she encourages her clients to try out different products, let’s say, nontoxic cleaning products and then has them note any changes to their overall well-being. If you’re thinking, “I’ve made the switch to cleaner products and didn’t notice anything,” that may be because the toxins have not accumulated enough over time to be causing issues but they could be on the way. If you are struggling to find the root cause of a health issue such as adrenal fatigue, you may want to check if your home has mold in it as these may be correlated said, Rhea. It can be overwhelming to think about the sheer number of pollutants, dirt, and toxins that could be hiding all over, so instead of going through every single thing, Rhea makes it easy and shares her top three tips for lowering the chemical load in our spaces. We can’t always pinpoint what may be contributing to our health issues especially when it comes to tiny particles in the air, but these steps are a great place to start if you’re looking to clean up your home. For those of us hoping to find out exactly what’s going on with our toxin levels at home, there are companies that can test the air and water quality so you can get a complete analysis. At mbg, we believe our home is an extension of our self-care and can’t think of a better time to get started on giving it a little TLC.
