This episode is extra special because today's guest is the real estate agent who helped my husband and I find our first home. I won't get into the whole story about how we met her but needless to say, you never know who you can meet when you're open to making connections. A random encounter led to us finding Lindsay. Not only did she seamlessly guide us through the homebuying process, making us feel comfortable every step of the way, we've also become friends! Lindsay made a huge career change from software sales to real estate during COVID after realizing she was unhappy with the status quo. After taking all of the necessary steps, cold calling and putting herself out there she landed a job with the Kirsten Jordan team at Douglas Elliman where she is a rising star in the industry and contributed to over $35MM in real estate transactions. But this conversation isn't all about real estate, it's about taking that scary leap into something new, trusting your instincts and claiming your confidence to be in a job that feels right. If you've ever had that gut feeling telling you “this isn't right” then this conversation is for you. We discuss What inspired her to make a big career change, how self reflection helped her figure out what the next step would be and considerations everyone should take into account when assessing their own situation if they're in an unsatisfying job How she knew it was the right time to take the leap The value of transferable skills and how she applied her sales experience to her new career Navigating imposter syndrome and using what she knows to be true to build confidence How she takes care of herself with a busy and demanding schedule Building a support system of like-minded people for inspiration and advice The challenges of maintaining work-life balance in a flexible work environment and strategies for time management and effectively structuring the day Real estate market insights and trends including what to consider when you're looking to buy a home Lindsay reminds us that it's never too late to make a change and pursue the things that you feel passionate about if you just take the right next step. David Jacobowitz is a marketer turned chocolatier…well actually he impressively still does both. He is the founder and sole employee of Nebula snacks. As a self-proclaimed super snacker he found himself taking his sweet tooth to the next level, and maybe a bit too far during COVID….experiencing weight gain, poor sleep and inflammation due to excess sugar intake. It was through this that he had the idea to create Nebula a chocolate free of sugar, sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners. It took him three years of experimenting to develop his treat for today's conscious super snacker - chocolate that delivers the flavor without the sugar. Launched at the end of 2021, Nebula Snacks started with two zero sugar chocolate bars, a dark and an oat milk chocolate. While many enjoyed the chocolates, there was a plethora of feedback from the crew requesting smaller sizes and exciting flavors. Back to the drawing board, it took nearly a full additional year to create the new Nebula Zero Sugar Added Chocolate Bites! He invites us all to join the sweet rebellion and fight for a healthier snacking future. During our conversation we discuss: Falling into entrepreneurship, his journey into the hustle life, and transitioning from marketing to launching his own chocolate brand How his late night COVID chocolate binges, a passion for snacking and a spark of an idea and turning it into a business How he balances his time having a full-time job and being the only employee of Nebula snacks Why he wanted to create a low sugar chocolate that's free from artificial ingredients, which ingredients he uses and the trial and error creating the recipe - how he created the mint flavor is fascinating Gathering customer feedback to define the products and brand The obstacles he faced in starting a business, embracing a learning mindset to navigate the food industry, and learning how to handle a “no” The importance of surrounding yourself with likeminded people and how he leans on fellow entrepreneurs for learning opportunities especially around brand building His future aspirations for Nebula snacks Use code FIO at checkout at Nebulasnacks.com to receive 15% off. From 2009 to 2017, Sarah Hurwitz worked in the White House, serving as head speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama and as a senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama. Prior to working in government, Hurwitz was the chief speechwriter for Hillary Clinton on her 2008 campaign for president and a speechwriter for Senator John Kerry and General Wesley Clark during the 2004 presidential election. Hurwitz is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School. These are really impressive credentials, but without any of these Sarah would still be impressive and praise worthy. She reminds me what it means to be good, and no matter what religion or belief system you identify with, I think you'll find heartwarming inspiration in her words and the lessons she learned from these ancient traditions and practices. We also talk about: How a break-up lead her to discover Judaism How the principles of Judaism are applicable to all of our lives Why words are so powerful even the casual things you say How empathy can make you better equipped for your job Why the ethics of modern american law sets a low bar for morality What it was like working for the Obamas (amazing obviously) Our shared love for the Cooked Media guys And, my favorite, if we can stop fighting ourselves we can find real meaning and joy... Sarah is a really special, not to mention, incredibly smart and talented person with a gift for meaningful thoughts, ideas, and words. I could have chatted with her for hours about life.

In this episode we flash back to my conversation with Dr. Shannon Ritchie, physical therapist, fitness instructor, and owner of the online fitness platform, Evlo. founder of Evlo which has fitness classes and science-based workouts. After years of studying biomechanics, muscle function, and neurology and seeing so many people in pain including herself, Shannon wanted a better way of workout that drives real results for people. She found a formula that helps her to not only feel stronger than ever, but to do it pain-free. This formula is simple: choose exercises and a structured plan that have the best band-for-your-buck, but that stresses joints the least. As a chronic worker-outer, often overdoing it, I could relate to Shannon's own story and felt inspired to take a rest day. During the episode we chat about why going hard or doing the most isn't always the right way to achieve results, why the fitness industry can be misleading, following the good feeling, tips for building strategic workout routines (beginners and advanced), some of Shannon's favorite nutrition recommendations and her own workout, and life in general! This is a week when I'd usually share a solo episode but I had a conversation that I just couldn't wait to let out because it's with my friend Michelle. Michelle and I know each other through our boyfriends who happen to live in the same building. A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through Tik Tok and came across a post from my friend Michelle. Michelle usually shares fun TikTok's of her boyfriend Jackson (sometimes without him knowing – like when he's sleeping!) but this one was different. In this one Michelle shared pictures of her life the past 6 months struggling with topical steroid withdrawal. TSW is XYZ I knew Michelle was going through something and that it was affecting her skin, but I had no idea the severity of it. I thought it was so incredibly brave and knew it would help so many people. I saw her a few hours later watching rugby with a group of friends and she told me it had gone viral with over 2 million views and people asking her questions and saying they were struggling too. As we were chatting about it I realized I wanted to sit down with her to learn more and share her story with others. She was so excited (and nervous to share) but also really wanted to raise awareness about topical steroids and the potential impact that so many people are experiencing but we don't know about. When Michelle was 16 she went to the dermatologist to treat her eczema and left with a low potency topical steroid - very common for treating eczema. Over the next 10 years, the dose stopped working and she continued to get increased doses to the point where it was 650x the potency of hydrocortisone. 650! And then, it stopped working entirely and her body went into withdrawal. For 4 months, she was in pain with bruising all over her body, itchy skin, couldn't wash her hair or get into the shower without pain, and was emotionally withdrawn. She couldn't leave her house and if you know Michelle, you know she is so social - always planning with friends and family. During our chat we talk about: What topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) is How she knew that's what she was experiencing and when it happened Her symptoms How it impacted her life Her support system and how critical it has been for her both mentally and physically Advocating for yourself at the doctor and seeking multiple opinions Gratitude for the little things in life that we often take for granted How she is working to heal and tackling the journey ahead Michelle and I both hope that this conversation raises awareness and any one who is using steroids understands the potential risks and advocates for their health.
