Get ready for a thrilling ride back to 1985 as we peel back the layers of the memorable horror comedy, Fright Night! This classic movie, skillfully directed by Tom Holland, is a treasure trove of iconic special effects, captivating cinematography, and a star-studded cast that still captures hearts and minds. We'll explore the charismatic character of Jerry Dandridge, his transformation into a vampire, and the film's unique interpretation of voyeurism. Our discussion isn't confined to the borders of Fright Night. We'll shine the spotlight on other characters such as Peter Vincent, portrayed by the legendary Roddy McDowell, and dive into the role of faith within the narrative. Plus, we'll draw comparisons between Fright Night and other late-night horror classics while reminiscing about the amusingly cheesy special effects that defined the 80s cinema. Add to that, a closer look at the transformation scenes of Jerry and Evil Eddie, coupled with an insightful analysis of similarities between Amy's character and Harry Potter's Patronus! And did you know that Charlie Brewster auditioned for the role of Rocky Dennis in Mask? Or that the voice of Jack Skellington isn't Danny Elfman, as popularly believed, but Tom Morrison? We've got these and more interesting trivia about the movie's cast, surprise auditions, and unique vintage props in store. So, buckle up and join us as we journey back to the nostalgic era of vintage horror in Fright Night. This week, we discuss a class of 80s horror that - until now - went somehow unseen by Leland. Tune in to hear how he reacts to this tale of Charlie Brewster, his "evil" friend Ed, a young Marcy Darcy, and the immortal Roddy McDowell. Chris Sarandon is immortal too, in the film at least, as the vampire Jerry Dandridge, out to terrify the suburbs.

In this episode, I dive into two of my favorite films from the 1980s: Reanimator & Fright Night, both from 1985.Reanimator (1985)Directed by Stuart Gordon and produced by Brian Yuzna. Starring Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, and Bruce Abbot. Based on an H.P. Lovecraft novelette. It is baffling, fantastic, bloody, and freaking awesome! Fright Night (1985) Directed by Tom Holland (who directed the first Child's Play film, introducing us to Horror-icon: Chucky!). Starring William Ragsdale, Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall, Amanda Bearse, and Stephen Geoffreys. I mean…do have I to say anymore? Classic. They are VERY different movies, but both have the Gothic aesthetic seeping from their pores! Charlie Brewster has a new neighbor who happens to be a vampire. In this remake of the 1985 classic, we see decent writing choices, some bad CGI, and good actors.
Charlie Brewster has a new neighbor move in named Jerry dandridge he's a dapper fella who may be a vampire.
This episode we watch the 1985 film Fright Night. Charlie Brewster suspects that his new neighbor might be a vampire. Find out what happens next! Theme: Halloween Pumpkin by Purple Planet Music
And Vampire Weekends movie review marathon just keeps on rolling on The Cult of Matt and Mark with Fright Night, a solid mid-80's vampire offering. While the main character of Charlie Brewster merely provides an avatar for the viewer, the power of the film resides in its supporting characters. While Evil Ed and the two-bit Van Helsing Peter Vincent add color, it's Chris Sarandon as the seductive vampire lord Jerry Dandrige that adds an awesome brush stroke of menace. In so doing, it could be argued that Sarandon's performance could go down as one of the greatest cinematic vampires of all time.Download: 218 Fright Night

Jerry and Billy would be great neighbors, were it not for all the apple cores they leave in the yard, and the bodies of dead prostitutes they take out in garbage bags. But while the rest of the neighborhood seems not to notice, Charlie Brewster realizes the truth--Jerry is a vampire. In 1985 Fright Night brought back the Vampire genre from the dead with its mix of horror and comedy. With Chris Sarandon as the evil, yet fashionable, Jerry, and Roddy McDowell as Peter Vincent, the fearless vampire killer, is this film's allure eternal, or should it have been buried in the 80's? Listen to Stuart, Arnie, and Brock to find out! Then come back to NowPlayingPodcast.com as we review all the Fright Night films, culminating with a review of the remake starring Colin Farrell!
