Peace on Earth. Can it be??? No, apparently not. Angst and dread continue to reign supreme as we enter the death throes of 2025, so let's just embrace it and have a very happy Crisis-mas! We've stuffed the stocking fit to bursting in this year's special Christmas episode. We welcome back Sammy from the Gentlemen's Guide to Midnite Cinema, and habitual Caliber 9'er, Bryce Hamilton (who never says no to a good bit of stuffing). Together, we'll be delving into a triple feature of sort-of-Christmas movies, starting with Wake in Fright (1971) directed by Ted Kotcheff, taking a detour into classic film noir with Lady in the Lake (1946), directed by Robert Montgomery and accelerating finally up into a Hong Kong action cinema frenzy with City On Fire (1987), directed by Ringo Lam. We will be announcing a Spoiler Territory section for all these films. So if you haven't seen them before you listen, you can nevertheless avoid spoilers for Wake in Fright by skipping ahead to the 1:34:50 mark, for Lady in the Lake by skipping ahead to the 2:27:48 mark and for City On Fire by skipping ahead to 3:30:16. Many historians believe that the first-ever radio broadcast of music and speech was heard by radio operators on US Navy and other ships in the Atlantic on Christmas Eve, 1906. Instead of the usual beeps and pulses to transmit codes, they listened to Reginald Fessenden play a violin solo of the Christmas carol, “O, Holy Night.” Fessenden closed his broadcast by echoing the angels’ praise: “Glory to God in the highest heaven!” (Luke 2:14). The listeners must have been startled by the evocative music and statement of praise over the birth of Jesus. The first people surprised by Jesus’ birth were the shepherds who’d been keeping to their usual business of watching their sheep at night. Then an angel appeared, shining with the glory of God and giving the shepherds a fright. The angel urged them not to be afraid and declared: “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord” (vv. 10–11). The shepherds left their sheep to investigate the angel’s words and found the baby lying in a manger, just as they had been told (vv. 16, 20). The shepherds accepted this good news of great joy. May we too rejoice and share the wonders of Jesus’ birth and life.
Douglas Blank from Festive Fright Lights joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the first annual holiday light competition. Festive Fright Lights lit up the Kewanee area this season with their first-ever community holiday light competition, drawing a strong response from residents. Homeowners competed in categories such as Most Festive, Best Traditional, Most Creative, and the ever-popular People's Choice, which was judged through community votes and a dedicated panel. This year's big winner, William Minton, dazzled with over 100,000 lights and took home both Most Festive and the People's Choice titles. Organizers say the event aims to revive and grow the tradition of festive decorations town-wide, and plans are already in motion to expand the contest next year with prolonged registration and potential new categories. Holiday lights shone bright in our first-ever community competition, as neighbors wowed judges and attendees with dazzling displays. Austin Pettis and family claimed Most Creative for their show at 11850 East 2450 Street, while Chris Lamb's classic arrangement at 615 Midland Drive took home Best Traditional. William Ornelas and family's spectacular setup at 1918 East Prospect Street earned both People's Choice and Most Festive. Each winner received a $100 gift card to a local restaurant and professional-grade Christmas lights, all courtesy of Festive Fright Lights.

On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio previewing an important Fright night home contest against Northwestern. Lead by head coach David Braun, the upstart Wildcats are 5-3 (3-2 in Big Ten play) and had one four-straight games before falling in a close one to Nebraska. The Trojans are coming off a late night win in Lincoln and have a short week to prepare for Northwestern, a program travelling a couple thousand miles to Los Angeles but is also fully rested after a bye week. USC leads the series 5-0 with the last meeting being the 1995 Rose Bowl, a game the Trojans won 41-32. The crew takes a look at some of the key matchups in the game and talk about some of the similarities between the Wildcats and the Cornhuskers. Northwestern has a very effective run game like Nebraska, and both programs excel in pass defense. We saw what the Huskers were able to do to Jayden Maiava, but will the Wildcats be able to do something similar? They also discuss some of the rumors circling around head coach Lincoln Riley regarding the ever turning college football coaching carousel, what it means for the USC/Notre Dame series with the Irish scheduling a home and home with Auburn and the Trojans No. 19 ranking in the college football playoff rankings. 10/31/25: GHOSTING IN THE FAR FRIGHT LANE W/ ANTHONY F. SANCHEZ Throughout history, we have had a preoccupation with contacting entities behind the etheric veil. Today, we have advanced technologies that can pierce into ghostly dimensions with great accuracy. This phenomenon, known as Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) has sparked a movement of paranormal investigators who believe they can capture spirit voices using various recording devices. The electronic world seems to be manipulated by the ghosts in the machine. Through our insatiable desire to communicate with those on the other side, we can hear the vocal expressions of the dead. Our guest tonight is Software developer Anthony F. Sanchez, who has developed a state-of-the-art ghost app - The SCD Archon. https://ghosthunterapps.com/ Listen to Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis M-F from 7-10 pm, pacific time on groundzeroplus.com. The Peaceful Plate: Ending Food Panic After Hormone-Driven Breast Cancer
Trusting yourself around food after breast cancer treatment ends feels risky, but only when you second-guess yourself because you think there's a “right or wrong way” to eat now. Because you don't trust yourself, you create food rules and highly structured order around meals, snacks, grocery shopping and dining out in order to stop feeling like every food decision IS a matter of life or death. In this final episode of my Four-Part Ending Food Fright series, I share why that's not the way to navigate your food and offer options for “doing” your food differently. ___________________________________________________________Click here to apply to my Peaceful Plate program! We'll look at a few newspaper headlines and stories from the past where people were deemed to be scared to death. It wouldn't seem so at first, but it gets that way as the possible explanations come forth. (The Strange Death of Darius N. Flinders) *** Last month a group of disgruntled TikTok witches reportedly got together and combined their online powers to cast a negative spell on the moon. She was, in short, one of the last people anyone would imagine as a victim of one of the creepiest disappearances in American history. (The Disappearance of Dorothy Forstein) *** Allan Pinkerton started the nation's first P.I. firm, saved Abraham Lincoln's life, and led Union spies behind Confederate lines during the Civil War. We'll look at the formation of the Pinkerton Agency.
