Keywords: South of Midnight, Thunderbolts, Marvel, Da Schraxx, Blue Eye Samurai, PowerA Fusion Pro, GTA5, Red dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk, Switch 2, Bosch, Spector, Surface Hub, Pocket, immersive Dubbing Der Beitrag 273 Same Same, But Different – Magie, Marvel & Mundart - Episode 273 erschien zuerst auf Sag was! Valentine's Day is supposed to be about love, but leave it to Hollywood to remind us that sometimes your girl gets snatched up by a 500-year-old vampire with a hairline worse than LeBron in 2014. That's right—we're sinking our teeth into Nosferatu (2024), the latest reimagining of the silent horror classic, where the only thing scarier than the bloodsucking is how fast your woman will leave you for a dude rocking a medieval cape. You already know the TruVue Podcast crew had to bring that barbershop energy to the box office, and let's just say we had thoughts on this one. From shadowy corridors to seductive stares, Nosferatu takes romance to a toxic, undead level, proving that no man is safe when a vampire with 500 years of game pulls up. And speaking of legendary cinematic moments, I had to bring up one of my own—yep, my old music video got a mention in this episode. SPOILER WARNING!!! AS WITH ALL SPECIAL EDITIONS WE WILL BE DISCUSSING MAJOR PLOTPOINTSWhen did vampires become tragically romantic figures? They certainly were not when Bram Stoker wrote Dracula. Bela Lugosi brought class to the character, but he did not make anyone swoon. Whether it was Hammer or Anne Rice, by the time Twilight stole hearts, vampires were sexy.Nosferatu is an interesting mix that handles the dark relationship between its two leads in a way that will surprise many. It combines what vampires once were with what they somehow became. At the same time, it can be seen as commentary. This is more than just another vampire movie.Horror is a wide ranging genre. There are creatures, all kinds of exploitation, and slashers, just to name a few. But there is something about gothic horror that stands out. A nostalgia and recognition that is impossible to ignore - at least for us. We discuss Robert Eggers and his approach to horror. What will be the legacy of the 2024 version of Nosferatu? Where will it stand next to The Witch and The Lighthouse? Has Eggers shown that there is another way to depict vampires? We discuss all this and more in our latest episode. In this episode of The Book Fix, Yajaira and Cheli review The Moth Diaries movie adaptation, with a few insights into how it aligns with and diverges from Rachel Klein's novel. The story centers around a sixteen-year-old girl at an exclusive boarding school who keeps a diary filled with her deepest thoughts, particularly about her intense fascination with her roommate, Lucy Blake, and Lucy's growing friendship with a mysterious new student, Ernessa. With pale skin and hypnotic eyes, Ernessa's arrival triggers a series of ominous events, stirring fear and suspicion among the girls. The diary's central mystery—whether Ernessa is truly a vampire or if the narrator's own mind is clouded by jealousy and imagination—creates a gothic atmosphere where fantasy and reality blur in chilling ways. This week on The Learning Curve, co-hosts Alisha Searcy of DFER and Dr. Jocelyn Chadwick interview Jeffrey Meyers, acclaimed literary biographer, about his comprehensive exploration of Edgar Allan Poe's life and work. Meyers delves into Poe's troubled early years, his struggles with abandonment and poverty, and how these shaped his dark, Gothic style. The discussion covers the themes and influences behind Poe's first poetry collection, Tamerlane and Other Poems, as well as his caustic literary criticism, which earned him the moniker “the man with the tomahawk.” Meyers explains Poe's development of detective fiction through the character C. Auguste Dupin in The Murders in the Rue Morgue, as well as the lasting significance of The Tell-Tale Heart in Gothic horror. He also explores Poe's most famous poem, The Raven, its crafting, and mythic resonance, along with The Cask of Amontillado, a revenge-driven tale that mirrors Poe's personal struggles. Meyers discusses Poe's essay The Philosophy of Composition and his belief in the “death of a beautiful woman” as a poetic ideal, analyzing Poe's relationships and what young writers can learn from his methods. Meyers also reflects on what teachers and students can appreciate about Poe's haunting genius and impact on literature. In closing, Meyers reads a passage from his book, Edgar Allan Poe: His Life and Legacy.
