In early September of 1799, the Stone Expedition reunited deep in the unmapped wilderness beyond the Ohio River. Nine men gathered at the designated rendezvous, carrying fresh provisions and renewed hope. They could not have known that within weeks, two of them would be dead, and the survivors would carry secrets that would haunt their bloodlines for generations. This episode chronicles the expedition's darkest chapter as they pressed deeper into forbidden territory than any Europeans had ventured before. The creatures that had watched them for months began gathering in unprecedented numbers, converging from all directions toward something none of the men could see but all could feel drawing them forward. When the expedition crossed into hostile territory without realizing it, the fragile peace they had built shattered in a single night of violence that left Henri Beaumont scattered across a forest clearing in pieces too small to bury. But the horror of that night was only the beginning. Guided by creatures whose motives remained unknowable, the surviving members discovered a hidden valley—a vast sanctuary concealed between mountain walls where hundreds, perhaps thousands, of these beings had lived in complete isolation since before human civilization began. What they found in the caves of that valley would challenge everything they believed about the natural world and reveal a relationship between humans and these ancient creatures far more terrible than any of them had imagined. The bones told the story. Scattered. Broken. Some fossilized with the weight of millennia, others bearing traces of recent flesh. Teeth marks near the joints. Evidence of breaking for marrow. The native warnings had not been exaggeration. They had been truth. This episode also documents the final descent of Will Harper, the expedition's artist, whose mind had been unraveling since his first encounter with the creatures months before. His death in a forest clearing—surrounded by silent witnesses, his heart simply stopped, his face frozen in an expression of terrible transcendence—remains one of the most haunting passages in the Stone journals. Two men entered that valley who would never leave it. The seven who survived would carry the weight of what they witnessed for the rest of their lives, bound by an oath of secrecy that would echo through their descendants for two hundred years. Some knowledge demands a price. Alan and Mike sit down to process a packed year of theater, trading hot takes and reviews on a massive slate of 2025 productions. From the cult popularity of Teeth and the star power of Audra McDonald in Gypsy to the technical marvel of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, they cover the shows that defined the last twelve months. They also dig into the unique experiences of immersive theater, the polarizing nature of certain plays, and the sheer stamina required to keep up with the New York theater scene. The discussion moves beyond reviews into a look at the state of the industry, debating the potential for simple streaming solutions to build audiences outside of New York City. Mike recounts his year of Cats related travel, including a roller coaster version in Pennsylvania, and they speculate on what 2026 holds for Broadway with upcoming productions like Smash, Schmigadoon!, and the return of Cats: The Jellicle Ball. Mike Abrams is the host and creator of The Wrong Cat Died, a podcast entirely dedicated to the musical Cats. Originally launched as a short comedic exploration of the show's plot holes, it has grown into a long running series featuring interviews with cast members and creatives from productions around the world. Hour 3 features Andrew Egger of The Bulwark breaking down Donald Trump's announcement of U.S. strikes on ISIS targets in northwestern Nigeria, including the fog of war, religious and political tensions, and Nigeria's response. The discussion then turns to the war in Ukraine, Trump's push to quickly end the conflict, concerns from Volodymyr Zelensky and European allies about possible concessions, and Vladimir Putin's continued influence behind the scenes. The hour also includes talk about phones and social media limits, morning routines, and a debate over brushing teeth in the shower and whether hot tap water should be used for drinking or cooking. The show wraps with on-air studio antics and sports discussion, including the Chicago Bears, Luther Burden III's breakout performance, and debate over the Kansas City Chiefs' planned move to a publicly funded stadium in Kansas compared to privately funded stadiums in St. Louis.

Send us a textGet ready to nerd out with your favourite podcast hosts in this Food for Thought episode! Erin explores a study showing that early humans were eating carbs before their teeth were able to chew them. What impact did the food early humans ate have on the teeth we have today? The carbohydrates (grains) available at the time required a lot of chewing, which means these early humans recognized this as a high-energy food source, despite not having teeth to properly chew them. The study shows it actually took about 700,000 more years before the size and shape of human teeth were actually suited to eating this food. Cool, right? Erin, with her background in science, helps tell the story of this research by explaining evolution. Then she goes down a bit of a rabbit hole about wisdom teeth and changes we see in present day humans and our teeth and jaws today. In this episode, I sit down with biological dentist Dr. Mario Parra to uncover how dental issues like old wisdom tooth sites, root canals, metals, and cavitations can quietly fuel chronic inflammation and chronic disease. We break down how hidden infections and dental materials can impact the immune system and when removing old dental work actually makes sense.I also share my own healing story after treating cavitations and an old root canal, and the surprising improvements that followed. If you've been struggling with unexplained symptoms or long-term health issues, this conversation will show why your mouth might be the missing piece.DISCLAIMER: All content posted on this channel is for informational purposes only. In this solo episode of Toni Unleashed, Toni Shelaske breaks down the truth about dental health for dogs and cats—starting with a key myth: kibble does not clean teeth. She explains how fresh food and biologically appropriate chewing play a far bigger role in preventing plaque and tartar. Toni shares her top natural chew recommendations, including roasted bones, raw femur bones, antlers, bully sticks, sheep horns, coffee wood, yak chews, and more. She covers how abrasion-based chewing supports dental hygiene, reduces anxiety, and keeps pets occupied during busy gatherings. She also touches on safe sourcing, choosing the right chews for your pet, and how gut health and fresh food contribute to better breath and overall oral wellness. Toni closes with practical tips for both dogs and cats—and a reminder to share the episode and leave a five-star review.

In this episode, Dr. Will Cole sits down with Katherine Dahl, mom of three and founder of SuperTeeth, the first probiotic oral care company, to talk about how your mouth might be the missing piece in your gut health. After surviving a life-threatening C. diff infection caused by antibiotics, Katherine became fascinated with the microbiome - and later discovered that the same bacterial imbalance affecting the gut can also take root in the mouth. They unpack the science of the oral microbiome, how fluoride and harsh detergents can disrupt healthy bacteria, and why rebuilding balance through probiotics and hydroxyapatite can heal teeth and gums naturally. The American musical is in a state of flux. Today's Broadway offerings are mostly jukebox musicals and blatant I.P. grabs; original ideas are few and far between. Meanwhile, Jon M. Chu's earnest (and lengthy) two-part adaptation of “Wicked”—an origin story for the Wicked Witch of the West that first premièred on the Great White Way over twenty years ago—has struck a chord with today's audiences. On this episode of Critics at Large, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz discuss “Wicked” before stepping back to trace the evolution of the musical form, from the first shows to marry song and story in the nineteen-twenties to the seventies-era innovations of figures like Stephen Sondheim. Amid the massive commercial, technological, and aesthetic shifts of the last century, how has the form changed, and why has it endured? “People who don't like musicals will often criticize their artificiality,” Schwartz says. “Some things in life are so heightened . . . yet they're part of the real. Why not put them to music and have singing be part of it?”This episode originally aired on December 12, 2024.Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“Wicked” (2024)“The Animals That Made It All Worth It,” by Naomi Fry (The New Yorker)“Ben Shapiro Reviews ‘Wicked' ”“Frozen” (2013)“Hair” (1979)“The Sound of Music” (1965)“Anything Goes” (1934)“Show Boat” (1927)“Oklahoma” (1943)“Mean Girls” (2017)“Hamilton” (2015)“Wicked” (2003)“A Strange Loop” (2019)“Teeth” (2024)“Kimberly Akimbo” (2021)New episodes drop every Thursday.
