RAPPO & DEACS EASTER CUP SPECIAL 18th April 2019 Thank you for listening to another episode of the podcast. This is the 20th episode to become available to download and enjoy. Of course, we’re out a day early this week because of the busy Easter local football programme. It’s always a special time in the football calendar with not only an all but full programme of SWPL matches on the Good Friday, but then cup football takes over with the Cornwall Combination League Cup Final on the Sunday and of course the Cornwall Senior Cup final on the Easter Monday. Our version of the FA Cup as described by three of our guests this week St Austell’s Caretaker Manager Neil Slateford, who is also no stranger to appearing in the final, and we also talk to the two managers involved on the day – Saltash’s Matt Cusack and Falmouth’s Andy Westgarth. Before that however, we also hear from two key people in the build-up to the Combo final on the Sunday – Illogan’s skipper Steve Abbott-Smith and St Day’s assistant manager Rob Hosking. It’s a special cup episode and no apologies for it being just over two hours. You’ve got the whole weekend to listen to it! It’s great that we can get to hear from people who will be involved in the big games coming up and that we can share them with you, our listeners. There’s also the usual features such as Rappo’s “Bet of the Week” and our Predictions on a handful of games throughout the Saturday football programme, from SWPL through to Duchy and Trelawny. We keep in touch with our resident Truro City supporters, Cam and Josh, as well as with the SWPL secretary Phil Hiscox. While Rappo takes his regular look at the Cornwall Combination League scene, we also touch on the MAB ECPL Premier Division title run-in, and more from this league next week with their league cup final taking place. Once again, thanks for listening and please feel free to contact me – davedeacon@cornishsoccer.info with feedback, comments and suggestions for future episodes. It’s a bit of fun talking about Cornish football with some of the people who are making sure local football stays on the map! Don’t forget, you can always leave a voice message for inclusion by going onto the Anchor app and following CORNISH SOCCER talking football. The twists in Brazil's politics recently would shame the most melodramatic TV soap opera - but as she reported on last week's tense stand-off, with ex-President Lula da Silva at bay, Katy Watson was also moved to reflect on how polarised the political climate has become. As some Brazilians blame Lula for everything and profess nostalgia for the days of dictatorship, others denounce the media as lying right-wingers. In South India there's more drama as Andrew Whitehead traces the intimate relationship between the Tamil-language cinema box office, and the ballot box in local elections. Lorraine Mallinder reports from Guinea Bissau on whether international efforts to suppress the cocaine traffic have really driven the drug trade out, or just driven it underground. As the city of Basel prepares to mark the 75th anniversary of history's first LSD trip - with a commemorative bicycle ride - Matt Pickles traces the long and strange relationship between this rather staid place and one of the world's most notorious hallucinogens. And Simon Parker bats his way to cricketing glory - at least briefly - as an international in the Easter Cup, played last week in San Salvador at it sweltered in 40-degree heat.
Get your fix of the Before You Bet Easter preview with Tim as he previews the dual Group 1 meeting at Rosehill, as well as the Easter Cup meeting at Caulfield on Saturday, March 31st.
