From donating time and resources to sharing skills, compassion, and ideas, Thomas walks listeners through the many ways individuals can make a real difference—no matter their age, background, or availability. Drawing from years of hands-on volunteer experience, Thomas shares powerful stories from soup kitchens, food pantries, community tables, and outreach programs across Southeastern Massachusetts. The conversation highlights organizations such as the South Coast YMCA's Full Plate Project, My Brother's Keeper, Damien's Place Food Pantry, local churches, animal shelters, and initiatives supporting seniors, families, and the unhoused. This episode also explores the unexpected truth about volunteering: those who give often receive just as much in return. Whether you're looking to donate money, volunteer your time, contribute items, or simply spark an idea that leads to change, this discussion offers meaningful insight into how small acts of kindness can ripple outward and strengthen entire communities. Sponsors:BayCoast.Bank – Just right for all your financial needs. Aunties on Air: Community Collaborations & Creating FirstsConnecting across community and the vastness of Wabanaki territory offers opportunity and excitement. Often, when we work together, we can create even bigger and more impactful things than if we worked alone. The story that will be shared today is a powerful one, a story of connection where two organizations came together to create the first ever Wabanaki beadwork exhibit, carefully designed by three powerful indigenous women (Caroline, Keyana, Nancy). The Museum of Beadwork (MOB) is a non-profit in Portland, Maine offering beaded artwork from artists across the world while supporting artists at all levels of skill development. The MOB was created and now led by Kristina Skillin and Heather Kahn. We are thrilled to have Kristina in the Aunties studio with us today. The Aunties will be discussing the power and creativity behind this new exhibit; they will also share when and how you can capture this creation.Wabanaki Words Used:Apc-oc (again in the future, parting, good-bye, farewell) https://pmportal.org/dictionary/apc-oc Topics Discussed:Museum of Beadwork - https://www.museumofbeadwork.org/Kristina Skillin and Heather Kahn - https://www.museumofbeadwork.org/pages/staffFalmouth, Maine - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falmouth,_MaineCoastal Maine Botanical Gardens - https://www.mainegardens.org/San Francisco, California - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_FranciscoDr. Sylvia Torti - https://www.coa.edu/about/administration/president/College of the Atlantic - https://www.coa.edu/about/Caravan Beads - https://www.caravanbeads.com/Jan Huling - https://janhuling.com/Princess Watahwaso (Lucy Nicolar Poolaw) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_Nicolar_PoolawChief Poolaw's/Princess Watahwaso's Teepee - https://www.penobscotnation.org/departments/cultural-historic-preservation/historic-preservation/princess-watahwasos-teepee/Penobscot Indian Island Reservation - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penobscot_Indian_Island_ReservationBangor Beautiful - https://www.bangorbeautiful.org/Friendly's - https://friendlysrestaurants.com/Quiero Cafe - https://quierocafe.online/Higgin's Beach - https://www.higginsbeachmaine.com/Portland, Maine - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland,_MaineMackworth Island - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackworth_IslandAnn Pardilla - Ann Pardilla was born in Old Town, Maine (to a Penobscot mother and a Kiowa father) and grew up on the Penobscot Indian Island Reservation. Ann later travelled the world with her husband George Pardilla and their six children throughout his time in the military. In 1809 on Monday, April 24, a young man named Barnabas Bates came to Falmouth. The sermon he preached would spark a remarkable awakening. But it wasn't just in Falmouth: God was about to stir up revival in Sandwich, Mashpee, Barnstable, and on Martha's Vineyard... It's a story you have to hear.  History may not always repeat itself, but it does tend to rhyme. This is the story of 1809, but it could also be the story of today. In this message, we'll explore what exactly God comes to do, and what an awakening looks like. In their engaging conversation, they dive into the impact of the striper fishery's status on George's business, emphasizing the vital role conservation plays in ensuring its longevity. They discuss how being a well-informed fisherman is key to effective conservation of our fisheries, noting that it's as much a responsibility of fishermen as it is for enforcement agencies to make information accessible. George shares insights on how diversifying fisheries not only benefits conservation efforts but also serves as an effective business strategy. The discussion also touches on George's past research on bonefish, highlighting how fishing can be a long-term research project where observation and being in the moment are key. Together, they explore their deep passion for fishing and the profound connections it fosters, making it a truly special experience to share with others. Parents are left with an impossible decision after an 18-year-old Falmouth student was accused and arrested for threatening a school shooting in Falmouth. Ian Fotheringham is charged with threatening to use a deadly weapon in a public building. While police did not find any weapons upon investigation, it raises concerns over how to handle such threats and the difficult decision for parents over whether they send their kids to school where a shooting threat has been made. At a hearing, a district court judge ruled that the teen can go free if he posts $2500 bail and wears a GPS monitoring device. What would you do as a parent or a student?
