Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens Scott and Laura welcome special guest Andrew Berkshire to the show! The trio gets right down to breaking down the biggest question facing the Canadiens right now, what will Cole Caufield's next contract look like? The group discusses the merits which might allow Caufield to surpass Nick Suzuki's current deal, but also whether or not they might be able to lock up their star winger at a slight discount as a team favour. The conversation then shifts to Josh Anderson and whether or not Kent Hughes is bluffing in regards to not being in a rush to trade Anderson in the coming weeks. Andrew and Scott debate the reasons why the Habs' big winger could very likely draw a huge return, but also the unique aspect he brings to the Montreal lineup when he's on his best game. Finally, the group previews the back half of the season for the Montreal Canadiens and what they expect to happen. Can Samuel Montembeault keep his stellar season going, or will Jake Allen bounce back to reclaim the starting job? Is Joel Edmundson's time as limited in Montreal as it seems? Well, well, WELL. The Habs played two games since the last time we recorded. With one furious game against the Panthers with plenty of questionable calls on the ice by the officials and then something of a shocker against the Leafs where the Laval Canadiens took the win in overtime! That, and plenty of other talk about the Habs, especially about Caufield!
What a dramatic weekend in the NHL. We watched Bruce Boudreau's time in Vancouver come to an end in a very public way. Frank gave some insight into just how this situation got as toxic as they did. Did management want to make a change earlier? They also talked about the spot that Rick Tocchet is now in as the Canucks new Head Coach. They then went across Canada to talk about the news that Cole Caufield is going to miss the remainder of the season. The Canadiens have been moving up the standings recently, which goes against what a large part of their fan base wants them to do and that's tank for Connor Bedard. From there, Jason and Frank naturally transitioned into the Florida Panthers, who traded their 2023 first round pick to the Canadiens at last season's deadline. Right now, they're on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture. Jason thinks they'll get in while Frank has them as sellers.Darryl Sutter also made some comments about rookie forward Jakob Pelletier, who made his debut on Saturday, that drew criticism. Is too much being made of this or was Sutter out of line? The guys gave their thoughts on it and then got into the current state of the Flames. Should they be looking to add ahead of the deadline?Episode 188 of The DFO Rundown is brought to you by Athletic Brewing Co. With Cole Caufield's season over, Marc Antoine and Arpon discuss developing young players while they are injured. Next, Kirby Dach's physicality emerging in his game. Also, circling back on Caufield, more on his injury and what the long-term effects could be, why not being in on the Bedard sweepstakes isn't worst thing and more. Colorado faces a crossroads as it emerges from a long economic winter and works to reopen businesses, support job creation, and regain a sense of normalcy for its residents. As restrictions loosen and people return to their everyday lives, Coloradans must grapple with how best to steer the state forward and continue to grow. The answer is the same as it has always been: embrace the principles of the free enterprise system. In times of immediate crisis, people naturally look to lawmakers for decisive action and leadership, but as the country moves onward, one constant throughout history has been that individuals working to provide for their families as well as businesses striving to meet the needs of their community—together, and free from intrusive oversight—lead to fuller bellies, bigger paychecks, and greater economic prosperity. A return to those principles can help lead the state through the challenges ahead and back to its full potential. Joining Chairman and Host Earl Wright on this episode to discuss both free enterprise broadly, and the 2023 Free Enterprise Report in specific, are CSI Executive Director Kelly Caufield, Vice President of Policy & Research Chris Brown, and 2022 Mike A. Leprino Fellow & 2021 Terry J. Stevinson Fellow Evelyn Lim. They discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Colorado heading into 2023 in earnest. Thank you for listening to Common Sense Digest. On tonight's episode, we preview Winnipeg's upcoming bout with the Montreal Canadiens. With the Habs looking more than a bit vulnerable this season, what has their approach been with the roster? Is Montreal actively trying to compete, or preparing for future seasons? Will St. Louis be the guy to carry them through the rebuild process, or are the Habs expecting a change in leadership down the road? Who should the Jets be wary of, especially with talented youth like Suzuki and Caufield? Finally, we close out with some thoughts on the game's following the Habs match-up, and try to estimate the number of points Winnipeg might earn. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens: The Montreal Canadiens lost, again. So instead of discussing the game at large Scott and Laura discuss the selection of Nick Suzuki to the NHL All-Star Game for the second time. They also debate whether or not Cole Caufield should have been the actual selection before deciding to launch a show campaign to get Caufield there anyways. Then with it being Friday it's time for the Locked on Canadiens Mailbag! The hosts dive into a number of prospect related questions, namely surrounding the super talented Russian star Matevi Michkov, and whether or not the Habs should take a risk on a player who is unlikely to be in the NHL in the next two years. Scott breaks down why the ultra skilled forward will be in the KHL for the immediate future, and why he might not be the selection if the Canadiens are selecting in the top five. The hosts also discuss wildly unrealistic trade scenarios, which Habs player they would want to be stuck in a plane crash with, and what do the Habs do with vets who just aren't performing at all? We're back at it with not a ton of new news to talk about! The Habs had tilts against the Kings and the Flames, with one of the games being an easy one to forget while the other ended in a shootout for the Habs win! But, that was not without a price as Caufield had to leave the game early after taking a hit. Here's to hope that he's all right! As usual, the first half of this episode has most of the Habs talk, while the second half is... Stuff!

Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens: The Montreal Canadiens were good, then very bad, then pretty good again in a 6-4 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. While the young stars like Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki continued to impress, the veterans struggled mightily again, including Josh Anderson who may also be facing a suspension following his ejection. The hosts break it all down! Then, it's time for Three Up, Three Down! With the veterans struggling, who makes the hosts down list? Is it Josh Anderson who may end up being suspended in the upcoming week? Is it Joel Edmundson who is shaking of the injury rust, and maybe trying to do a bit too much? Certainly on the list is the Boston Bruins for their signing of Mitchell Miller late last week. On the upside there are no shortage of players who could be on the rise this week with the Habs top line in full flight. The trio of Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Kirby Dach is becoming a force to be reckoned with across the NHL as they dominated the score sheet for Montreal. Besides them however, who else in Montreal earned a spot on the up list for this week? Kaiden Guhle had some really strong moments, as did a handful of prospects, but who makes the host's final list? Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
Well, there's no more 82-0 season! The Penguins fell to the Canadiens in overtime on Monday night and Hunter is here to talk all about it. He goes over the goals that were scored first and how Evgeni Malkin continues to have a fire lit within him. He then breaks down what went wrong on the tying goal and then the game-winner. He shows his screen and is able to analyze who is in the wrong in each sequence and what each player should've been doing, especially on the tying goal from Caufield. Hunter also looks at the personnel that as used to defend the lead late in regulation and then during the PK in overtime. Should Mike Sullivan have opted for some different players? Who could've done a better job? After that, Hunter keeps it objective and goes after the top line, along with Kris Letang for their poor performances, even though they'll likely be better on Thursday against the Kings. He then has some positive things to look back on for this game, including the play of POJ, Casey DeSmith's great saves, and Malkin's beast mode gem. Finally, Hunter ends the show with some thoughts about how there isn't much to worry about right now and that this team is still in a great spot. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens: The Montreal Canadiens played an extremely entertaining game on Monday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, winning in overtime thanks to a huge game from a number of players, including Cole Caufield. Despite playing well the team still had to overcome a two-goal deficit and did so with aplomb, capping the comeback off with Kirby Dach's first goal as a Hab to seal the win in overtime. The hosts break it all down and more! Speaking of players stepping up, Kaiden Guhle dominated the game on Monday and looks like a 10 year NHL vet along the blue line. Scott and Laura take a peek at how Guhle played against the Penguins, and at his incredible metrics that back it all up as well! Finally, the defence of the Canadiens that was expected to get lit up night in and night out to start this season, has surprisingly put together a strong start despite four rookies playing heavy minutes. While Kaiden Guhle has been a standout, the play of Jordan Harris, Arber Xhekaj and Jonathan Kovacevic also shouldn't be overlooked. Scott and Laura take a look at how things can only get better once Joel Edmundson and Mike Matheson rejoin the team in the coming months as well. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! MTL, FLA, OTT and TOR! Lots of movement in this one, TOR and FLA got major facelifts. OTT added big pieces, MTL en route to as many picks as humanly possible. What's the outlook here? Matthews getting 65? Tkachuk in FLA, who gets to be the sidecar on that line? Caufield, Suzuki getting underrated... but Martin St. Louis has something to say about that. Matt Murray.... yeah. Tons going on in this episode. Fantasy Positional Rankings coming up next! Let us know what you think
