From third grade onwards, Elisheva Schwartz struggled at school. The differences in the way she learned didn't match that of the school system and it landed her in trouble. That's not to say she didn't achieve a lot in life because she has. But like a lot of children, she had to find a different way. Mum of two small children, Elisheva become a dyslexia researcher and now hosts the Dyslexia Quest Podcast. With an academic background Cognitive Science and Education, she helps children and their parents fully understand both the strengths and the difficulties of their own unique processing style. In this episode we talk a little about dyslexia, but then zoom out to the bigger picture of how parents can help their children flourish at school in spite of the variety of learning difficulties that may hinder them. We talk about navigating your role as your child's advocate with the school; how you can help your child overcome stress and anxiety and develop resilience; and how mums can help boost their child's self-esteem. Best of all, you'll be given the tools to teach your child how to develop self-compassion and learn that sometimes, in spite of all the wonderful support available, the best thing you can do is look them in the eye, show them that you care and give them a giant hug.
