In this episode, Ellen talks about how she decided to trust the promptings of her heart to leave her secure job in corporate America and follow a dream! She literally reinvented herself...and the laughing Buddha! The inspiration for The Suburban Monk came from a time of major transition in Ellen Atkins' life, though she led a “normal” suburban life, married to a great guy, 3 kids and the adorable family dog. Being a CPA in the corporate world was where she lived for 30 years. Perfect job. Great money. Well respected. The day flew by. So, what made her turn her perfect life upside down? There was a constant internal nagging. Logically, it felt like it should be enough. It wasn't. Conversations played in her head such as, “You can do this job with your eyes closed, Ellen. Don't you want to see what else is out there?” Eventually, she couldn't run from herself — or that nagging feeling — any longer. She couldn't figure it out with her head and what she needed was to surrender and just be still. It was in this stillness that something magical began to happen. I admit it. When I speak about making meaningful changes in your life to bring more success, self-confidence and self-awareness, I tend to say it can be a difficult road to follow. Change can be hard, especially when your growth is met with resistance from family and friends. You may second guess your commitment to truly seeking out your Dream Life. But it doesn’t always have to be this way and my guest this week is proof of that. Ellen Atkins was a successful CPA for nearly three decades when she had a nagging feeling that something was missing from her life. She quit her job and went from the security of that well-paying position into the great unknown of rediscovering her purpose and passion in life. In describing her journey she tells us how she:•dealt with her family’s reaction to her new outlook•found joy outside the corporate world•created a new business that brings joy to othersSometimes it’s hard to imagine your own transformation until you get a glimpse of how others managed to do it. Hear Ellen’s powerful story on this edition of Dream Power Radio.Ellen Atkins made it her mission to discover what made her happy after she left the security of her full time job. Chick and Ellen will be sharing two different stories to inspire us and bring a new perspective on how to not only survive during the COVID-19 pandemic but to create a life of love, joy, and prosperity.  Chick Atkins leads a successful family-owned real estate development business his Father founded over 40 years ago. Chick's success in business and joy for life is grounded in 35 years of meditation practice. His meditation practice guided him through the 2008 financial crisis and is guiding him through our financial crisis today. Chick is open to conversation and can be found at catkins@atkinscompanies.com. Ellen Atkins spent most of her life as a typical suburban mother. She had a successful career as a CPA, carpooled kids, and supported her family, friends, and community in various ways. From the outside, she had it all. Internally something was missing. She gave herself permission to take a year off to find herself. What she discovered dormant was an enormously creative woman. She fell in love with happy Buddha statues.  Her love for happy Buddha brought her to a deep awareness of how much joy we all bring to the world, simply by doing and having those things that bring us the most joy. Ellen created The Suburban Monk to share and inspire women to discover how they too can live lives of significance simply by doing and having those things that bring us the most joy.  Ellen is open to conversation and can be found at www.thesuburbanmonk.com.

Are you happy? Do you know what makes you happy? My guest Ellen Atkins was busy living her life (and it was a good life), when she began to question it. She came to understand that while she had achieved success, she didn't know what actually made her come alive, or what truly brought her happiness.  Fast forward, and she's made it her mission to discover the very things that light up her heart. This is no small order of course, but in seeking out that which makes her love and laugh, she's cultivated incredible wisdom about it all, and is helping others find the same for themselves. My guest on this weeks HER Conversations is Ellen Atkins, Founder of The Suburban Monk   After thirty fulfilling years as a CPA in the corporate world, Ellen knew it was time for a change. She was a happy suburban mom of three kids, a great husband and adorable dog. On the outside, what more could she want? Yet in 2007, Ellen turned her life upside down, quit her great job in search of what made her happy. She became hyper-focused on whatever brought her joy: words, quotes, a picture, or even a colour. During her transition, Ellen ordered a few Monk statues, the jolly kind with the big bellies. Surprised with the joy they gave her, she began to dress them up, duck tape quotes to them, take pictures and send them to her friends. From there, Syd was born, Since that life-changing decision, Syd has swept the world. Syd has spread his love to six of our seven continents (Antarctica coming soon) and hangs out with Carlos Santana, Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Mackenzie Phillips, The Dali Lama and even the Pope! By listening to Ellen’s story you will witness an example of the magic that can happen when you choose to follow that persistent silent whisper, start before you feel you are ready and leap into the unknown void of possibility.  Find out more about Ellen here https://thesuburbanmonk.com/about/
