In this week's episode of Your Best Day Yet, Chief Victory Officer, Eric Guy, interviews the CEO of Floyd Consulting and mastermind behind Floyd's Dream Manager program, Kate Volman! Kate shares about her inspiring and exciting book, "Do What You Love," and her and Eric talk about the connections between personal and professional growth, dream storming, and chasing creative passions!Takeaways: Personal and Professional Growth Are One and the Same – Kate emphasizes that people are not separate “work” and “home” versions of themselves. If leaders want their teams to be strategic, engaged, and reliable at work, they need to support their personal growth as well. The Dream Manager Program Transforms Workplace Culture – Kate discusses The Dream Manager book and program, which helps organizations improve engagement and retention by supporting employees in achieving their personal dreams. When employees feel valued, they show up differently at work.Strong Leadership Creates Strong Cultures – Eric and Kate's conversation highlights how leadership plays a key role in fostering a positive work environment. Organizations that invest in coaching and development see higher productivity, better retention, and increased loyalty.Creativity Fuels a More Fulfilling Life – Kate shares insights from her book, "Do What You Love," which encourages people to reconnect with their creative passions. Whether it's music, writing, or another pursuit, creativity brings joy and can positively impact work performance.Action Beats Perfection – A big takeaway from the discussion is that waiting for the "perfect moment" or "ideal inspiration" can keep people stuck. Instead, progress happens when people take action, even if it's imperfect or uncomfortable at first.More from Kate Volman: https://katevolman.com/ (Get her book while you're on her website, too!) 'Little Miss Sunshine' teaches us to accept our absurd existence, and in this acceptance, we can find joy. In this video, I bring in concepts from Albert Camus, Friedrich Nietszche, and Marcel Proust to illustrate that the suffering we feel should not be resisted, but accepted, a powerful concept to anyone who's gone through a dark time in their life.My other videos:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM-cp9Mw810https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Us5_-iiEbEhttps://youtu.be/DdCxER5hoLc?si=HzYPZEPW99Kx268Khttps://youtu.be/rRPkaVtx1_o?si=g9lWy-jbyWHT1l25Website: https://remarkablebooksandfilm.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thestorieswetell303/Email: remarkablebooksandfilm@gmail.comPodcast: https://remarkablebooksandfilm.com/podcastBuy used books from me if you live in Denver: https://remarkablebooksandfilm.com/buy-books0:00 - Sisyphus1:20 - The Power of Acceptance3:40 - Channel Intro4:22 - Dwayne; or Do What You Love & Fuck the Rest9:14 - Frank; or Forgive Yourself11:42 - Richard; or It's Okay to Lose14:47 - Sheryl; or Accept What You Cannot Control16:31 - Olive; or Embrace Yourself19:18 - Accepting the AbsurdSources'The Myth of Sisyphus' by Albert Camus'The Will to Power by Friedrich Nietszche'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' by Friedrich Nietszche'In Search of Lost Time' by Marcel Prousthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4pDUxth5fQ#philosophy #camus #nietzsche #videoessay #proust #filmreview #acceptance #mentalhealth #sisyphus Hosted on Acast. Unleashing Potential: Transforming Mid-Career Stagnation into SuccessIn a recent episode of Josh's podcast, he sat down with Anna Urnova, a career coach helping mid-career men pivot to thrive. Anna, who has worked with executives and leaders at top companies like PwC, Siemens, Visa, and Unilever, shared her expertise on how professionals can navigate the often challenging mid-career phase. This blog post delves into the key themes and actionable advice from their conversation, providing a comprehensive guide for mid-career professionals looking to make a meaningful change.Anna explains that many of her clients, typically men aged 35 to 55, experience a sense of stagnation and lack of motivation, often referred to as the mid-career plateau. This period can be characterized by feeling stuck, a lack of energy, and a desire for change. One of the central themes Anna emphasizes is the importance of aligning one's work with their purpose. She argues that this alignment can be a powerful remedy for burnout and lack of energy, as professionals who find work that resonates with their core values and passions are more likely to feel invigorated and motivated.Anna's approach to helping mid-career professionals pivot involves a structured system that she outlines in her free masterclass, "Do What You Love: 5-Step Formula." The steps include gaining clarity about one's strengths, values, and passions, exploring new career possibilities, repurposing existing skills, creating a strategic plan, and executing with adaptability. By following these steps, mid-career professionals can find renewed purpose and energy in their careers. For more detailed guidance, consider exploring Anna's free masterclass and take advantage of her free calls to discuss how the system can be applied to your individual situation.About Anna Urnova:An award-winning Career Coach dedicates herself to helping professional mid-career men break free from feeling stuck, stagnant, undervalued, and burned out in soul-sucking jobs. “How can we expect that they're going to show up at work excited to fulfill the mission of an organization if they're going home and they are completely disengaged in their own life, they're not excited about where they are going, and they've lost touch of all of their dreams?” Kate Volman, CEO of Floyd Consulting, is an acclaimed author and leader in fostering environments where dreaming is the framework of transformative professional culture. Her work, grounded in the principles of Matthew Kelly's "The Dream Manager", extends beyond mere motivation but towards building systems within company cultures that help people assess and grow in aspects of their lives, including the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. In this episode of Made for Impact, Kate discusses with host Gretchen Schott, The Dream Manager program and how the transformative power of the Dream List can help tap into your team's personal aspirations, which can exponentially grow an individual's contribution to your company's vision. A dream-filled culture can drive engagement, loyalty, and productivity, and Kate's insightful strategies are designed not just for thought but action—turning aspirations into achievements that resonate both personally and professionally. In this episode, you'll learn: How dreaming bigger can redefine what's imaginable for you and how sharing and prioritizing these dreams can catapult you and your company toward impactful achievements. Why defining your team's superpowers and shifting your focus to empowering employee's personal growth can create ripples of positive change, boosting engagement, loyalty, and workplace culture. How to ditch the myths that keep ambition in check such as the barriers of perfectionism and the belief that we need permission to pursue our goals. In this episode: it's not easy it's simple, the flywheel, being consistent, skilling up, the gift of time, and what money can provide. This week we are joined by founder and creator of ConvertKit, Nathan Barry to discuss his entrepreneurial journey and how the fundamentals of FI helped drive him to create and build a successful business. We often discuss the importance of skill stacking when on the journey to FI, but we sometimes forget to touch on the trial and error that comes with learning and creating something new for yourself. While you can't expect to start something new and be faced with little to no challenges, this leaves more opportunities for personal growth and important lessons! So whether it's learning a new side hustle or starting a business, it's important to remember that you may not always know how to do something perfect when you begin. You should not count yourself out or give up when you don't see instant results, but rather reach out to new communities and take the lessons in stride! What are the principles you use to navigate life's beauty and challenges? Are your principles written down, or are they seamlessly integrated into your subconscious where you know they're there, but haven't quite defined them yet? I find it inspiring to learn about others' principles to help orient myself to the directions of my own soul's compass. I first learned about the Universal Principles by Arnold Patent and Victor R. Beasley from Paul Chek, my long-time friend and mentor. He recommended reading one principle each morning to inspire a thoughtful and productive day ahead. I find it especially effective to read these principles when I feel challenged with one of life's obstacles or stuck in a situation that is difficult to move through. I have noticed that one principle will inevitably “pop out” at me as a helpful tip for how to reframe my situation – an inspiration and reminder to tap into my inner power. They get something done, rather than nothing.(27:10) Something that grows exponentially can become so valuable that it's worth making an extraordinary effort to get it started.(27:30) Taylor Swift (Acquired's Version)(30:00) If you don't try to be the best, you won't even be good. This observation has been made by so many people in so many different fields that it might be worth thinking about why it's true.(36:00) Originality isn't a process, but a habit of mind. Original thinkers throw off new ideas about whatever they focus on.(38:00) Change breaks the brittle.(43:45) What might seem to be merely the initial step — deciding what to work on — is in a sense the key to the whole game.(45:00) Being prolific is underrated. + Examples of outlandishly prolific people(48:30) Just focus on the really important things and ignore everything else.(50:30) One of the most powerful kinds of copying is to copy something from one field into another. History is so full of chance discoveries of this type that it's probably worth giving chance a hand by deliberately learning about other kinds of work. You can take ideas from quite distant fields if you let them be metaphors.(51:30) Seek out the best colleagues.(54:30) Solving hard problems will always involve some backtracking.(56:30) Don't marry someone who doesn't understand that you need to work, or sees your work as competition for your attention. If you're ambitious, you need to work; it's almost like a medical condition; so someone who won't let you work either doesn't understand you, or does and doesn't care.(57:50) The prestige of a type of work is at best a trailing indicator and sometimes completely mistaken. If you do anything well enough, you'll make it prestigious.(58:00) Curiosity is the best guide. Your curiosity never lies, and it knows more than you do about what's worth paying attention to.If you asked an oracle the secret to doing great work and the oracle replied with a single word, my bet would be on "curiosity."The whole process is a kind of dance with curiosity.----Join Founders AMAMembers of Founders AMA can:-Email me your questions directly (you get a private email address in the confirmation email) -Promote your company to other members by including a link to your website with you question -Unlock 31 Ask Me Anything (AMA) episodes immediately-Listen to new Ask Me Anything (AMA) episodes every week ----“I have listened to every episode released and look forward to every episode that comes out. Stay tuned to the end of the interview where I'll give you some actionable insights that I learned from my guest. These insights are also in the show notes. As always, thanks for listening. Now on to my guest for today, Josh Adler, a serial entrepreneur and founder of Convrtx. Convrtx offers help to startups in four ways: through strategic support, help in raising capital, product development, and launch strategy. Josh comes from a family of successful entrepreneurs in Canada. He started out as young as eleven in accounting and worked his way through various aspects of business, which has given him unique insights into how to build and run a company. He attended the University of Toronto for business and MIT, where he earned a certificate in cybersecurity. He has launched several other businesses, including Open Advisor, a support network to help startups globally and in particular in developing countries. In our talk, Josh shares insights into the ways in which Dubai, where he now lives, contributes to a flourishing culture of entrepreneurship. The government offers financial support for people who go from working for the government to launching a startup. When COVID hit, providing free, regular testing along with tight restrictions around people who tested positive helped the area, which relies heavily on tourism, to stay resilient. Now, let's get better together. Actionable Insights While Josh had the privilege of starting early by working for his family company, he stresses that ultimately it's about putting in the work and continuing to do so until you see results. Though it might not seem like a great time to try to raise money for a business, Josh says it's actually a good time to do so, especially for startups in the early stages. There's a lot of investment to be had for founders in this stage. While not previously an avid reader, Josh now reads two books a week, saying it's important to learn from others as much as possible. Below are the four books Josh recommends for all entrepreneurs, noting that these cover the important areas that entrepreneurs should focus on: The Lean Startup: How Today's Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation To Create Radically Successful Businesses, by Eric Ries The Titanic Effect: Successfully Navigating the Uncertainties That Sink Most Startups, by Tood Saxton, M. Kim Saxton, and Michael Cloran The $100 Startup: Reinvent the Way You Make a Living, Do What You Love, and Create a New Future, by Chris Guillebeau Secrets of Sand Hill Road: Venture Capital and How To Get It, by Scott Kupor Links to Explore Further Convrtx Convrtx on LinkedIn Josh Adler on LinkedIn Convrtx on Facebook Keep In Touch Book or Blog or Twitter or LinkedIn or JSYPR Learn more about your ad choices.
