In 1953, an unidentified flying object was spotted on radar as it passed over the Great Lakes. Lt. Felix Moncla and his radar observer were scrambled to investigate the mystery aircraft in an all-weather, twin-engine Northrop F-89 Scorpion... and vanished as they closed in on the UFO. Neither the pilot, his radar observer, nor their aircraft was ever located. The strange disappearance of Felix Moncla has remained a cold case in the history of UFO encounters, inspiring many researchers to go in search of answers. However, some claim that the U.S. Air Force may know more about the Kinross incident, which it says involved not a true UFO, but a Canadian aircraft flying over Lake Superior. Does the official explanation hold up, and are there other concerning incidents involving military aircraft that have disappeared in conjunction with UFO sightings from over the years? In the December 1967 issue of Flying Saucer Review, there appeared an article written by Jerome Clark titled “Why UFOs Are Hostile.” In it, he presents a few cases and a load of speculation as to why UFOs are hostile. One of the stories presented is that of James Flynn, a Florida resident who had been sleeping in a swamp when he was awoken by his dogs barking. He witnessed a craft, and claimed that it rendered him unconscious for 24 hours. The article is largely supported by heavy speculation, and had little to actually back it. By and large, in the United States, UFOs were relatively tame. They seemed more curious than harmful. Thomas Mantell’s death couldn’t be exclusively proven to have been at the hands of a UFO, and the disappearance of Felix Moncla was mysterious, but still remained unknown. In Brazil, however, they started to earn the reputation of a country that suffered from its UFO sightings. In the late 70s, a flap of UFO activity occurred that resulted in serious injury, and even the deaths of Brazilian residents around the city of Colares in northern Brazil. During the early evening of November 23, 1953, 1st Lieutenant Felix Moncla and 2nd Lieutenant Robert Wilson left the Kinross Air Force Base in a F-89C Scorpion fighter jet to investigate a strange radar return that had been picked up. In the control room at the base, radar operators watched the screen as the blip representing the jet got closer to the unidentified blip, and then became one with it. Radar operatives lost contact with the jet and eventually the blip disappeared from the screen. After several days of searching, no trace of the jet, the two men or the unknown object were ever found. It wasn’t long before the Air Force began to backtrack and give different stories about the circumstances of that evening, but there is speculation from many that Felix Moncla and Robert Wilson had come in contact with a UFO. Because there is no plane debris or evidence of the encounter, it has been theorized that their plane was either engulfed by the UFO or they may have gone through an open portal or gateway following the strange craft to an unknown location.
This is one of our favorite podcasts because it is all about ALIENS! We have been looking forward to it for a long time. Felix Moncla's flight near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in 1953 over Lake Superior. Jim Townsend's encounter with some beer can shaped aliens. Some conspiracy discussion regarding aliens in photos! RIP to Grumpy Cat. Also, try some Ruby chocolate!
