The history of Craig County Oklahoma is filled with stories of sadness and chaos. Today we will be discussing another time that blood was spilled on the dirt of Craig County, but this time there was no massive conflict or war, this was an entirely different kind of modern tragedy for two families in late December of 1999. It was an exciting time, not only was it one of their 16th birthdays but they were on the precipice of new millennium, an exciting new year. To celebrate this the girls planned a sleepover. The night was supposed to be filled with whispered secrets, junk food and laughter, but instead it encompassed their final hours, which were marked by unimaginable terror. Episode 62 The Finale. For over two decades, Lorene Bible has chased whispers through rural Oklahoma—across backroads, into burned-out houses, and deep into the shadows of fear and corruption. In this final chapter, we follow her relentless pursuit as it collides with rumors of meth, murder, and men who believed themselves untouchable. We'll trace the steps of private investigators blocked by politics, uncover the objects that linked killers to the crime, and examine how a mother—just a mother—did what no law enforcement agency would: she kept going. This is the conclusion of our three-part series on the disappearance of Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible. The fire was only the beginning. Episode 61 Whispers. The town of Welch, Oklahoma was full of whispers after the bodies of Danny and Kathy Freeman were located in the burned out Freeman home. Whispers about drugs, wrongful deaths, police involvement, intentionally botched investigations, and whispers about where the girls were and who had taken them. The whispers swirled around allegations related to Shane Freeman's death after a Craig County Sheriff's Deputy shot him on a rural Oklahoma road nearly a year before. The whispers discussed accusations of drug debts and methamphetamine rings. The whispers built theories. And some of the whispers would eventually harden into statements, allegations, and testimony but it would take years, decades even. In this episode of Crime to Burn, we take you through the whispers and the theories swirling around the Freeman's deaths and the disappearances of Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman in the early days of the investigation because whispers can spread through a community like wildfire, and the Bible family was willing to consider every whisper in their relentless search for their missing daughter. In episode 654, Megan chats with Ashley Freeman about professional food styling, including how to embrace ‘mess' and other key elements that make food images visually appealing and unique. Ashley Strickland Freeman is the creator of the blog Little Black Skillet. Just like a "Little Black Dress," she strives to create approachable, everyday recipes her audience can trust and turn to again and again. With over 19 years of experience as a food stylist, cookbook author, recipe developer and tester, and culinary producer (culinary content creator for short), Ashley offers a unique perspective having worked on all sides of culinary publishing. In addition to developing recipes and food styling for some of her favorite brands, she's currently working on her fourth cookbook. In this episode, you'll discover the essential equipment for capturing mouthwatering food photos, how props can make or break your shots, and the role of color theory in food photography. Key points discussed include: - Invest in a quality camera and lens: Having the right equipment, such as a DSLR camera and a versatile zoom lens, can make a significant difference in your food photography. - Use a sturdy tripod: A geared tripod, like the Manfrotto, allows you to achieve precise angles and compositions for your shots. - Experiment with budget-friendly props: Look for unique items at thrift stores, fabric shops, and even your own home to create visually appealing scenes. - Embrace color theory: Understand how complementary colors can enhance the visual appeal of your food photos. - Prioritize composition: Use odd numbers, multiples, and strategic placement to guide the viewer's eye through your images. - Enhance food appearance: Techniques like brushing cheese with oil or using thickened syrups can help make your food look fresh and irresistible. - Embrace the "mess": Don't be afraid to capture the natural imperfections and realistic details that make your food photos more approachable. - Practice and trust your intuition: Continuous practice, studying other photographers' work, and having confidence in your own style are key to improving your food photography. “Nobody was looking for the girls, except my family" -- On December 29th, 1999, as high schooler Ashley Freeman turns 16, she invites her best friend Lauria Bible for a fun sleepover, and what would happen to the entire family during that night, would become a 20-year mystery, involving the cartel, local rings, and even the entire police department as a suspect, a mystery that only Lauria's parents would be able to solve: where are the missing girls? Embark on a journey through the human body with Ashley Freeman, a luminary in the field of human physiology, who makes a special appearance on our podcast to unravel the mysteries of skeletal muscle metabolism, especially within the context of cancer patients. From her transition from nursing assistance to researching the depths of muscle systems, Ashley's narrative is not just educational but peppered with laughter and a nod to her surprising TikTok fame. Together, we tackle the marvels of muscle structure, dissecting the complex processes from the macroscopic fascicles to the sarcomeres' microscopic dance during muscle contraction, all while busting myths about protein powders and the need for steroids.Get ready to flex your brain as well as your biceps, as we sift through the best practices for muscle growth, emphasizing the synergy between resistance training, nutrition, and the often-overlooked superhero of recovery—sleep. Ashley expertly guides us on how to optimize protein intake and why that shaker bottle might just be your best gym buddy. Our conversation isn't limited to the gym goers; we also shed light on the intricacies of electrolyte balance, making sense of the sodium-potassium pump, and calling out the health marketing industry on their sometimes misleading narratives. As we draw a close to this enlightening session, hydration takes center stage. We critically evaluate the strategies behind sports drinks, like Prime and Liquid IV, and even play with the idea of launching our own hydration line—because who wouldn't want a cute bottle that might also contain a fruit infuser? Lastly, we demystify creatine monohydrate supplementation, highlighting its benefits and dismissing the myths that often follow this well-researched supplement. So tune in, not just for the knowledge bombs dropped by Ashley but for a healthy dose of critical thinking and a few laughs along the way.Support the showYou can find us on social media here:Rob TiktokRob InstagramLiam TiktokLiam Instagram
