Romanek turned himself in at the Larimer County Jail this morning on charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Child, a class IV Felony and Sexual Exploitation of a Child, a class III Felony. The class III felony alleges distribution of child pornography and the class IV felony relates to the possession of more than 20 images of child pornography. A jury first found Romanek guilty of the charge in October 2017 after a three-year legal battle, and he was sentenced to two years in a halfway house and 10 years of sex offender intensive supervised probation.A warrant for Romanek's arrest was filed in May 2018 after his probation was revoked. Romanek had reportedly missed several therapy sessions that he was required to complete as part of his sentence due to a contagious disease, his attorneys previously told 8th Judicial District Judge Susan Blanco. The contagious disease had also prevented him from appearing in court in person, they said.Romanek, resentenced in 2020 after admitting to violating the terms of his probation sentence. The judge expressed concern that Romanek was not taking responsibility for his crimes.
