But Murdo McTaggart doesn't believe in superstitions like that, and he heads out to catch fish while the other villagers go to church. AI is tearing through corporate America — and this time, it's coming for white-collar jobs. Tens of thousands of office workers are being laid off as automation and efficiency pressures reshape how companies operate. Amazon's latest restructuring shows that the era of middle management may be ending, while new data reveals why strong employee experience is the single biggest factor keeping talent from walking out the door. Meanwhile, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon doubles down on the return to office, arguing that mentorship and innovation depend on proximity. Yet, as companies slash management layers to cut costs, research from HR Dive warns productivity and culture are taking a hit. And in the background, a new hiring trend is emerging — one where skills matter more than age, giving older workers a second act in the modern workplace. Across these stories, a clear signal emerges: the future of work is being rebuilt in real time — flatter, faster, and more human than before.

Of the original Fortune 500 list in 1955, only about 49–60 companies are still on the list today, depending on how you count mergers and breakups. That's roughly 10%–12% survival over ~70 years. Put differently, almost 90% of the biggest companies in America in 1955 are no longer there as standalone Fortune 500 companies today. The churn has actually sped up. • More than half of the Fortune 500 companies from the year 2000 are already gone by the mid-2020s, acquired, merged, went private, shrank, or died. • That's 25 years, not 50. On this week's Business Acquisition Podcast, I'll share my thoughts how you can best avoid being on that losing side of the statistics. I'll also give you a challenge! It's all in this week's podcast, so if you think you're ready for some hard truths, give it a listen! To Your Success, Bruce Whipple https://brucewhipple.com/

Strategy doesn't fail for lack of ideas—it fails at the handoff to execution. We bring in OKR expert and Wave Nine founder Philip Schett to show how to close that gap with clear goals, shared rituals, and a culture that trades micromanagement for ownership. Philip's journey from Germany to Silicon Valley reframed his thinking: great companies don't win because they dream better; they win because they execute better. That mindset shift powers the conversation as we dig into OKRs done right—less about perfect wording, more about changing team behavior, building trust through transparency, and making alignment a weekly practice. We unpack the patterns behind “set and forget” goals, and why town halls and slide decks rarely produce real alignment. Philip introduces three simple rituals that compound: Monday calibrate to focus on outcomes for the week, Friday celebrate to make progress visible and energizing, and quarterly resets to protect priorities without hiding behind annual vagueness. We explore accountability with a human tone—say what you'll do, do what you said—using one-on-ones for tough conversations and public forums for recognition. You'll hear how co-creating OKRs prevents dehumanizing top-down mandates, why OKR champions are key to scaling across functions, and how nonprofits can turn passion into measurable impact with the same playbook. If you've ever watched goals vanish by week three, wrestled with cross-functional friction, or confused motion with progress, this episode offers a practical operating system: verify understanding instead of assuming it, make work visible to accelerate trust, and anchor execution in rhythms your team can keep. Subscribe, share this with a leader who needs clearer focus, and leave a review telling us which ritual you'll start this week.Get in Touch with Phillip Schett:https://www.linkedin.com/in/philipp-schett/#OKRs #LeadershipExecution #BuildTrust #TeamAlignment #MondayCalibrate #LeadershipPodcast #ExecutionCultureI'd love to hear from you! There's more about you online than you know. The company Acxiom, for example, has probably determined whether you're a heavy drinker, or if you're overweight, or if you smoke (or all three). The same company has also probably estimated—to the exact dollar—the amount you spend every year on dining out, donating to charities, and traveling domestically. Another company Experian, has probably made a series of decisions about whether you are “Likely,” “Unlikely,” “Highly Likely,” etc., to shop at a mattress store, visit a theme park, or frequent the gym. This isn't the data most people think about when considering their online privacy. Yes, names, addresses, phone numbers, and age are all important and potentially sensitive, and yes, there's a universe of social media posts, photos, videos, and comments that are likely at the harvesting whim of major platforms to collect, package, and sell access to for targeted advertising. But so much of the data that you leave behind online has nothing to do with what you willingly write, post, share, or say. Instead, it is data that is collected from online and offline interactions, like the items you add in a webpage's shopping cart, the articles you read, the searches you make, and the objects you buy at a physical store.Importantly, it is also data that is very hard to get rid of.Today, on the Lock and Code podcast with host David Ruiz, we speak with Peter Dolanjski, director of product at DuckDuckGo, about why the internet is so hungry for your data, how parents can help protect the privacy of their children, and whether it is pointless to try to “disappear” online.“It's not futile… Taking steps now, despite the fact that you already have information out there, will help you into the future.”Tune in today. You can also find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and whatever preferred podcast platform you use.For all our cybersecurity coverage, visit Malwarebytes Labs at malwarebytes.com/blog.Show notes and credits:Intro Music: “Spellbound” by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Outro Music: “Good God” by Wowa (unminus.com)Listen up—Malwarebytes doesn't just talk cybersecurity, we provide it.Protect yourself from online attacks that threaten your identity, your files, your system, and your financial well-being with our exclusive offer for Malwarebytes Premium for Lock and Code listeners.

As women, moms, and leaders, we wear every hat — boss, organizer, visionary, and closer. But here's the truth: we cannot build an empire on exhaustion. This week on Mommy, Surviving, and Thriving, we're talking about one of the hardest skills to embrace yet one of the most freeing — delegation. If you've ever said, “It's easier to do it myself” or “They won't do it like I would,” this episode is for you. We'll explore:✨ Why holding on keeps us small✨ The three most common reasons we avoid delegating (and how to overcome them)✨ How systems, checklists, and even AI can give us back time and peace✨ Practical steps to start delegating with confidence todayRemember, delegation isn't just about handing off tasks — it's about building trust, reclaiming energy, and making room for growth.

Could you disappear today? In the Wild West you could roll into a new town, pick a fresh name, change your hat, and start over. Now - not so much. In this episode I compare that fantasy with life in 2025, where cameras, Face ID, fingerprints, passports, and databases keep a steady record of who and where we are. I joke about wanted posters drawn from guesswork, moonshine dentistry, and the idea of trying on new roles the way actors do. We talk about aliases vs biometrics, privacy vs convenience, and why “be yourself” might be the only workable strategy. You can still change paths, learn new skills, and evolve your style. You just probably can't vanish like “Ricky Barbarossa.” Your DNA is everywhere.Seems weird that for most of human history you could walk away and never be seen again. No ties. No responsibility. Nowadays everybody know where you are or where you've been. There is a digital paper trail following you no matter how much you try to get away. Is that a good thing? Or a bad thing?Opening song “Chiptune Fighter" written by SCOREWIZARDS.All production by Cody Maxwell.Opening graphic assets by motionstate.sharkfyn.commaxwellskitchenpodcast.com

REGISTER HERE! Click the link for DATES, DETAILS, and FAQs! This episode examines a critical 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of 12 randomized controlled trials involving 966 type 2 diabetic participants, revealing a sobering truth about intermittent fasting: while it produces remarkable short-term benefits, these gains completely disappear after discontinuation. Dr. Scott and Tommy analyze how various fasting protocols (time-restricted eating, fast-mimicking diets, periodic fasting) significantly reduced A1C levels, fasting blood glucose, and body weight in under three months - but all parameters returned to pre-intervention levels within three months of stopping. This research powerfully illustrates why fasting must be approached as a permanent lifestyle change rather than a temporary diet solution. The hosts address the staggering diabetes epidemic: 38 million diagnosed Americans, 9 million undiagnosed, and 98 million with prediabetes - totaling 145 million Americans on the diabetes spectrum. Learn why the "rebound effect" occurs when fasting habits aren't sustained, and discover practical strategies for long-term adherence through personal anecdotes about adapting fasting to real-life situations like family dinners and social pressures. The episode introduces the concept of "momentary maintenance" - deliberate pauses in fat loss to build confidence in weight control rather than viewing plateaus as failures. This research validates that consistency trumps perfection, emphasizing that intermittent fasting works brilliantly when maintained but requires the same ongoing commitment as any other health practice to preserve its metabolic benefits. Private equity has made its way into nearly 23% of for-profit US hospitals, despite financial goals that can be at odds with the patient-oriented priorities in health systems.Distressed reporter Samantha Kroontje went to a new “healthcare desert” in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, to speak to some of the people impacted by the closure of its main health system, which came after years of debt-funded growth and dividends led by former private equity owner Leonard Green. In this week's episode of Cloud 9fin, deputy distressed editor Rachel Butt spoke with Kroontje about the reporting process for a recent feature story on the fallout of Prospect Medical's bankruptcy. It delves into the financial maneuvers of Prospect's previous private equity owner that led to the company's unravelling, the healthcare workers who were impacted, and the local vendors likely to get pennies on the dollar.Have any feedback for us? Heatrick Heavy Hitters – Muay Thai Strength and Conditioning
Muay Thai skills can vanish when most needed. Ever heard that fighting is 90% mental and 10% physical? Here's why that's misleading...This common saying assumes three things:That you already have enough 'physical' to be in the game,That it's fight time not training time,That mental and physical aspects work independently. They don't.And this oversimplification is exactly why so many fighters' Muay Thai skills disappear when it matters most.I've spent over three decades both fighting and coaching fighters, and I've discovered there's a systematic process that makes skills actually transfer to fights. It works for everyone, and today I'm going to show you exactly how.
I'll never forget the first time it happened. I was talking with an engineer or coder type at a party. Their cell phone rang. They looked at it, answered it, and walked away without so much as an “excuse me”. In the middle of a sentence.I'd like to say it was the only time it happened. It wasn't. Sadly this kind of thing happens with more and more frequency. Here's the irony - when someone checks out (permanently or for a period of time) from some social media platform or another - they pronounce the departure with great fanfare. As if anyone actually would notice they're gone given the blowtorch blast of content. Our social fabric and basic social contract sometimes feels ripped to shreds, the basic rules being utterly disregarded where it matters (interpersonal connection) and being applied in places they don't even apply (“social” media). So this week, a mea culpa of sorts, and some thoughts on how to stitch that sh*t back together. In a world where what passes for radical honesty usually means someone is just letting things fly outta their pie-hole without much care for others, it's time for radically authentic conversation. Conscious communication is simple, but often isn't easy. That's why Cathy Brooks created Talk, Unleashed – a weekly podcast of radically honest conversation about — everything. Whether her own musings or in conversation with industry leaders, each episode invites curiosity. Curiosity not about what people do, but why they do it. Who they are and what makes them tick. It's about digging underneath to reveal the thing that is most true - that we are more alike than we are not. A mix of solo episodes where Cathy shares her insights and experience or Cathy engaged in conversation with fascinating humans doing amazing things. No matter the format - it's unvarnished, radically honest and entirely unleashed. This podcast compliments Unleashed Leadership, the coaching business through which Cathy works with symphony orchestras, corporate clients, and individuals to help them unleash and untether their leadership and connect with others in a way that truly engages.#responsibility #dontdisappear ##dogbehavior #baddogbehavior #dogtraining #shiftingbehavior #brutalhonesty #radicalhonesty #consciouscommunication #leadership #Conversation #connection #TalkUnleashed #fiercecompassion #UnleashedConversation #UnleashedLeadership #FixYourEndofTheLeash

Genocide scholar Omer Bartov joins The Zach Show for part 1 of this conversation to explain why, by May 2024, it was “no longer possible to deny” Israel's genocidal intent in Gaza. We dig into the Rafah operation, the systematic destruction of homes, hospitals, and schools, bulldozers flattening entire neighborhoods, mass starvation, and leaders invoking biblical calls to wipe out Amalek. Bartov lays out how operational patterns + explicit statements reveal genocide, raising haunting questions about U.S. complicity and the future of Palestinians. Guest bio: Omer Bartov is a historian and genocide scholar at Brown University, specializing in Holocaust studies, genocide, and modern warfare. Born in Israel, he has written extensively on the Holocaust in Eastern Europe and ethnic violence, and is widely recognized as one of the world's leading experts on genocide.
