To wrap up our WIND + FIRE series, Pastor Tim Matthews preaches a powerful sermon out of Acts 28. Scripture: Acts 28 We must be unashamed and willing to suffer for the Gospel The grace, power, and calling we receive from the Gospel came from a person, not our performance You can lock up the messenger, but you can't stop the message If we miss Jesus, we miss everything Jesus and His Kingdom is now and forever the unstoppable force The unstoppable force started in the book of Genesis What we do with our lives will impact where and how people will spend in eternity Remember who you are in Christ: a Kingdom-carrier Why live for the anything less than the glory of God, when we know one day the glory of man will fade away If we end this series and we don't see Jesus the way He wants us to see Him, then it was all for nothing In prayer it's not always about the results – it's about the amount of faith you're showing your Father Our lives are a love song back to Him His mercies are new every morning, and there's a mission and holy calling, that by His Spirit, we can walk into and enjoy

Jesus and Genesis- What the New Testament says about creation. Many people mistakenly think that the issue of creation, the Flood, where the different people groups came from and the age of the earth only involve the interpretation of Genesis 1–11. It's important to remember that the teaching of the New Testament is significant to how we understand these issues. The authors of the New Testament refer back to the historicity in Genesis 1–11 in order to make a number of different theological points. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/answerstv/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/answerstv/support

Would sickness and other ailments not have afflicted him? Do you know the number of times the New Testament references things found in Genesis? What are some of the most important areas of studies for homeschool teachers or Sunday School teachers? You mentioned the water canopy theory no longer being believed by most creation-science models, what other incorrect things do biblical creationists commonly believe? Do you make videos of evolution vs. creation for homeschools? Are we (Christians) related to those who don't believe in God? For Full Show Notes Click HereHow to Ask Better Questions of the BibleBe aware of your biases that everyone brings to the bible. There is no such thing as impartiality in biblical studies. It is hard (if not impossible) to read the Bible simply as it is, without reading into the Bible what you already think it is saying. The gold standard of modern biblical scholarship, is to be aware of your biases in studying the bible, so that you can ask better questions of the text. Don't assume just because a passage is familiar, that you understand what you are reading.  Seek out opinions of those that do not completely align with your biases so you can enlarge your thinking.Accept that you might not know what the Bible actually says — this is okay! The bible itself is full of people who are wrestling with what the scriptures say. The Psalms in particular are full of the author trying to wrestle with what the Bible seems to promise, and the reality of their situation. Instead of reading the bible to reinforce what we already think the bible is saying, try to read it as if you are encountering the text for the first time. Put yourself in the story, and try and imagine that you do not have the benefit of knowing the ending. (An interesting exercise is to read through the story of the patriarchs and the matriarchs, and put yourself into the story. What were they thinking while they went through the events that are recounted in Genesis? What would it be like to be them? What would you be feeling? What is your worldview like?)Learn to Read the Bible in its own context. Do not read into the Bible your own context. Remember the Bible was not written to you or for you. The Bible is a collection of books from a different time, from a different socio-political position, and for a different group of people. The example we briefly discussed was the popular misreading of Matthew 24:40. Most people misread this scripture as the believer being swept up into heaven, and the sinner being left behind. This has spawned a number of unfortunate works of fiction and even a few terrible TV shows. When we place Jesus’s words back into its Jewish context (Jesus is Jewish after all) it is more appropriately read that the sinner will be swept and taken away (think flood language from Genesis), and the righteous will be left behind to enjoy the renewal of all things (New Heaven and New Earth) at the end of the age.

Evangelical Christians in the U.S. have had a contentious relationship with science in recent history. But is the "war between faith and science" really necessary? Is there really even a war? In this series, we'll explore questions like:-Can I reconcile modern geology and biology with the book of Genesis?-What does it mean to read the Bible "literally" and have I really been reading the Bible the right way?-Is there a global bias among scientists against Christianity?-Is there such a thing as "theology-less" science?-Do I really have to choose between Darwin or Jesus? In this first episode, Paul will share a bit of his own journey growing up as a Young Earth creationist and explore why learning how to take Biblical inspiration seriously might radically change the way you answer these questions.
