She boarded a flight to India to learn how to die—and found the wisdom to live. Laurel's journey—from childhood loss and addiction to a stage-4 cancer diagnosis—collides with Bhakti-yoga, kīrtan, and the Bhagavad-gītā at the Govardhan Ecovillage, reframing suffering through devotion and community. With Raghunath and Kaustubha, this episode traces the shift from victimhood to spiritual agency: simple practices, steady philosophy, and a flower-festival moment that changes everything. Key Highlights * “I came to die, but I learned to live.” * Raghu bans pity (but allows chapati—not Chowpatty). * Dog therapy for the soul: Who rescued who? * The sliding-tables cruise ship: how to find steadiness when life tilts. * Kīrtan at 5 a.m., a highway near-miss, and the taste of grace. * From validation-seeking to service and sādhana. * “Maintenance meds” vs. maintenance of the heart. * How the Bhāgavatam reframes impermanence and the “why me?” loop. In this episode, Swamiji explores Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 4, where Shree Krishna unveils the eightfold division of His material energy—earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect, and ego. Listeners will discover how this verse encapsulates the very foundation of creation, revealing a divine blueprint that modern science has only begun to glimpse. Swamiji bridges ancient wisdom with contemporary understanding, showing how all sentient and insentient matter is a manifestation of God's energy. This episode invites seekers to reflect on the sacredness of the world around them and recognize the Divine not just in temples, but in the very elements of existence. Building upon our previous episode about rare souls and relentless effort, this discussion deepens your understanding of the material world as an extension of the Divine. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for spiritual insight, reverence, and cosmic connection.
In this episode, Swamiji continues his exploration of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 5, revealing the three distinct energies of Shree Krishna—material energy (prakriti), spiritual energy (jiva), and divine energy (para shakti). Listeners will discover how these energies interact to form the fabric of existence and how the soul, though bound by matter, remains eternally connected to the Divine. Swamiji explains that while the material body is governed by lower nature, the soul belongs to Krishna's superior energy and is meant to transcend worldly limitations. This episode offers a profound understanding of our spiritual identity and the intimate relationship we share with God as His eternal fragment. Building upon our previous episode about the soul's divine origin, this discussion deepens your understanding of how recognizing these energies can transform your perspective on life, purpose, and devotion. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for spiritual clarity, divine connection, and inner freedom.
In this episode, Swamiji concludes his exploration of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 5, addressing one of the most profound spiritual questions: Are we God, or merely His energy? Listeners will discover how Shree Krishna draws a clear distinction between the soul and the Supreme, resolving centuries of philosophical debate with divine clarity. Swamiji explains that while the soul (jiva) is a fragment of Krishna's superior energy, it is not the Supreme Being itself. This episode dismantles misconceptions about oneness and highlights the soul's eternal dependence on God, emphasizing humility, devotion, and the joy of divine relationship. Building upon our previous episodes on the soul's identity and its connection to Krishna, this discussion deepens your understanding of spiritual individuality and the nature of divine energy. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for truth, clarity, and transcendental wisdom.
In this episode, Swamiji begins his exploration of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 6, where Shree Krishna reveals the ultimate reason behind the creation of the material world. Listeners will discover how both the lower (material) and higher (spiritual) energies originate from the Divine, and how creation itself is an expression of God's purposeful design. Swamiji explains that the world is not a random occurrence but a divine arrangement meant to facilitate the soul's journey toward realization. This episode invites seekers to reflect on their place in the cosmic plan and understand how every experience—joyful or painful—serves a higher spiritual purpose. Building upon our previous episodes on the soul's identity and divine energies, this discussion deepens your understanding of creation as a sacred opportunity for growth, surrender, and reunion with the Divine. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for meaning, devotion, and spiritual awakening.
In this episode, Swamiji continues his exploration of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 6, revealing the deeper purpose behind life's delays and struggles. Listeners will discover how Shree Krishna's divine plan is not about denial, but preparation—shaping the soul through patience, introspection, and surrender. Swamiji explains that spiritual growth often requires waiting—not as punishment, but as a sacred pause where the soul matures and becomes ready to receive divine grace. Through relatable examples and scriptural clarity, this episode encourages seekers to trust the timing of their journey and embrace every moment as part of Krishna's design. Building upon our previous episode about the divine origin of creation, this discussion deepens your understanding of how God's timing aligns with your spiritual readiness. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for trust, surrender, and divine alignment.
In this episode, Swamiji explores Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 3, where Shree Krishna reveals a sobering truth: among thousands, only a rare soul strives for perfection, and even fewer truly know Him. Listeners will discover how spiritual progress demands relentless effort, unwavering faith, and the courage to rise after every fall. Swamiji emphasizes that failure is not a sign of weakness but a necessary part of the soul's evolution. Through inspiring examples and deep scriptural insight, this episode encourages seekers to persevere—no matter how many times they stumble—because the path to divine realization is reserved for those who never give up. Building upon our previous episodes on devotion and divine wisdom, this discussion deepens your understanding of spiritual resilience and the rarity of true God-realization. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for perseverance, surrender, and the highest truth.
In this episode, Swamiji begins his exploration of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 5, where Shree Krishna reveals the existence of a higher energy—the soul (jiva)—distinct from the eightfold material nature. Listeners will discover how this divine spark animates the body, mind, and intellect, and why science, despite its advances, cannot grasp the essence of consciousness. Swamiji explains that while the material world is governed by prakriti, it is the jiva—God's superior energy—that experiences, chooses, and evolves. This episode invites seekers to reflect on their true identity beyond physical form and recognize the soul's eternal connection with the Divine. Building upon our previous episode about the divine blueprint of creation, this discussion deepens your understanding of the soul's role in the cosmic design and sets the stage for a profound inquiry into spiritual selfhood. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for self-realization, divine connection, and inner awakening.
In this episode, Swamiji explores the essence of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 1, where Shree Krishna reveals the most direct path to divine realization—Bhakti Yoga. Listeners will discover how unwavering devotion, surrender, and attachment to God surpass all other spiritual disciplines, becoming the ultimate means to know Him in truth. Swamiji explains that while many paths exist—meditation, knowledge, rituals—only the bhakta, the loving devotee, truly establishes a relationship with the Divine. Through heartfelt examples and scriptural clarity, this episode unveils Krishna's assurance: that those who practice devotion with sincerity and faith are dearest to Him. As we begin this new series, this foundational verse sets the tone for a journey into divine intimacy, spiritual clarity, and the transformative power of love. Tune in to deepen your understanding of Bhakti Yoga and elevate
In this episode, Swamiji continues his exploration of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 2, illuminating how Shree Krishna's teachings offer timeless clarity in today's age of digital overload. Listeners will discover how spiritual knowledge (jnana) and realized wisdom (vijnana) serve as anchors amidst the distractions of modern life, guiding us toward inner peace and divine connection. Swamiji draws a compelling parallel between the Gita's wisdom and the need for a “digital detox,” urging seekers to turn inward and prioritize spiritual discernment over sensory stimulation. This episode offers practical insights on how to cultivate focus, deepen devotion, and experience God—not through information, but through transformation. Building upon our previous episode about the twin keys of knowledge and devotion, this discussion deepens your understanding of how divine wisdom can be lived, not just learned. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for clarity, surrender, and spiritual fulfillment.
In this episode, Swamiji explores Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7, Verse 2, where Shree Krishna reveals the two essential qualities required to truly experience the Divine: spiritual knowledge (jnana) and realized wisdom (vijnana). Listeners will discover how these two facets—when cultivated through devotion—lead to a deep, experiential understanding of God beyond intellectual grasp. Swamiji explains that while theoretical knowledge introduces us to divine truths, it is only through heartfelt devotion and inner realization that we begin to perceive God's presence in our lives. This episode emphasizes the importance of integrating scriptural study with spiritual practice, allowing divine wisdom to unfold naturally within. Building upon our previous episode about Bhakti Yoga as the supreme path, this discussion deepens your understanding of how knowledge and devotion work in harmony to awaken divine consciousness. Tune in to enrich your journey through the Gita and elevate your quest for truth, wisdom, and spiritual fulfillment.
Born into the Brahmins, the highest caste class in India, Ganesh began doubting Hinduism while in college and eventually turned to atheism. While in the United States, the hospitality of a Christian family eventually led to the foot of the cross. Come and see. Ganesh Vankataramanan is a graduate from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology. He works as a Vice President at a software technology company. With his background in science and experience in working with highly analytical teams, Ganesh found that scientific explanations, while fine in themselves, lacked depth and human meaning. In his attempts to better understand life, he stumbled across religion and then Jesus. Out of many, one. We continue our journey with the Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita is more than scripture — it's a timeless playbook for mastering your mind and winning your inner battles. In this episode of The xMonks Drive Podcast, host Gaurav Arora sits down with Prithviraaj Shetty — a young entrepreneur, founder of Bhagavad Gita For All (BGFA), and faith-tech innovator who left behind a career path from Imperial College London and Columbia University to bring spiritual wisdom into the digital age. From his collaborations with Suniel Shetty and Vidyut Jammwal, to his mission of making the Gita accessible for Gen Z and modern professionals, Prithviraaj shares stories, struggles, and shlokas that show why the mind is our greatest friend — or our worst enemy.
Today's episode answers the question, "In our contentious times, should a yogi be somehow above it all?" I received a comment that my discussion of politics in social media was disappointing. I respond with some thoughts based on the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana, and my own contemplation of the issue. I tried to make it general and not defensive. I hope you find it helpful. Please support Peter's Podcast on Patreon. You can take classes and training with Peter at ISHTA Yoga.Namaste

According to the Jewish tradition, we are in the High Holy Days. According to the news, we are in the lowest unholy days. Both are true. As global tensions escalate, this paradox points directly to the teaching of the Bhagavad Gita: The war to be concerned with is the inner battle between your ego and your soul. The Gita has inspired much of modern Western philosophy—from Schopenhauer and Hegel to Nietzsche and beyond—yet none of those thinkers got the real message being transmitted. Accurate understanding of the Gita's profound instructions is essential now for physical survival in this time of tribulation and, more importantly, for spiritual salvation.
More riffing on the Bhagavad Gita!

Most people's activities are impelled by the force of karma. We are forced to take birth, and what is the other end of that? If we're forced to take birth, then what comes after that? (Sorry to bring it up, I know it's a family show). We also are forced to die, and we don't know when. But Krishna appears by his own sweet will. This is one of the main truths of Janmashtami to understand. Why is it important? 'Janma karma ca me divyam evaṁ yo vetti tattvataḥ.' Now here comes the most important part. Are you ready for the most important part of the verse? 'Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti so 'rjuna.' Krishna says, "If you're able to understand this science of God, that God's not an ordinary person. He enters the world, not like us by force. He leaves the world, not by force like us, but that his activities are divyam, transcendental." He says, "tyaktvā deham." Deham means this body. We all have a body, right? And tyaktvā means "at some point we have to give it up." 'Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti.' That means when you leave this body, if you become fully cognizant of God and your relationship with God in this lifetime, you have come to the perfection of human life, and therefore you don't have to take birth again. Because this universe is a classroom. It's for all of us to refine ourselves. And what is the ultimate refinement? It is to reawaken our relationship with Bhagavan. Every single living entity has an eternal relationship with God, and when we are estranged from that relationship, then we feel fear because we think that we are independent or separated. We struggle here in this world to understand our nature, and we have existential angst about our own existence, and we are threatened by non-existence. But when we understand that we are co-eternal with the supreme, Krishna exists eternally. And just like the sun has its sun rays, we are part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. He says in the Bhagavad Gita, "Mamaivāṁśo jīva-loke jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi prakṛti-sthāni karṣati"—that every living being is a spark of God, of God's energy. God is like the sun, and we're like the sun rays. Simultaneously one, but different from the Supreme. He is supremely independent and all-powerful, and we're minutely independent and we are not all-powerful. I'm glad somebody regularly reminds me of that. So Krishna says (BG 4.9), janma karma ca me divyam evaṁ yo vetti tattvataḥ tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti so 'rjuna Okay, who's Kṛṣṇa speaking to in the Bhagavad Gita? (Audience: Arjuna) He says, "Dear Arjuna, if anyone can understand the truth of my appearance in the world and my activities, it's not ordinary, it's divyam. Then they don't have to take birth again here in this material world." So Janmashtami is a celebration of this event, but it's not an yearly event. It's an event that is happening at every moment, if that even makes logical sense. The fact is that Krishna is within the heart of all of us, and he is guiding our movements, giving us intelligence. In the Bhagavad Gita, 15th Chapter (BG 15.15), Kṛṣṇa says, sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭo mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyo vedānta-kṛd veda-vid eva cāham I'm in the heart of every living being, giving knowledge, remembrance and even forgetfulness and so on. So on Janamashtmi we can remember that Krishna is in our heart. He's in the heart of every living being. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------

Spears & Surrender – When Peace Was Older Than Progress Before nations, before bombs, before “progress,” there was another kind of peace—one rooted in ritual, kinship, and restraint. In this episode, we trace the earliest forms of disarmament: warriors who buried weapons before councils, spiritual leaders who practiced nonviolence, and poetic traditions that chose mercy over might. With voices from The Bhagavad Gita, the Rig Veda, and Zulu proverbs, we rediscover surrender as sacred wisdom.

In a world of AI disruption, endless striving, and nonstop noise, what if the real goal isn't progress, power, or even success—what if it's LOVE? Love is the only lesson, the only currency, and the only force strong enough to heal our lives and our world. Through timeless wisdom and radical insight, Derek reveals how love isn't just a feeling—it's a fierce practice, a quantum principle, and the blueprint for personal and global transformation. From Mandela to Martin Luther King Jr., from Jesus to the Bhagavad Gita, he shows how loving the truth within ourselves—and even within our so-called enemies—can resurrect hope, dissolve fear, and spark miracles. Lord Caitanya said 'devotee Vaidya.' The Vaishnava, is a doctor. Doctors got a little black bag. Doctors used to make home calls, and Lord Chaitanya says, 'What does he have in that little bag?' That little black bag? The doctor, the Vaishnava doctor, has hymns and instructions—two things to cure the disease of Maya. And it requires this personal touch. Somebody's going to knock on the door. Otherwise, what are they going to do? I'll give you one guess what they're going to do. It starts with an 'S' and ends with two 'L's: Everyone's scrolling! Used to be watching television, but now it's just scrolling. Nobody's doing anything but scrolling. That's why people can't pass a budget. That's why people can't get along. They're too busy scrolling. So, until we knock on the door and say, 'Hare Krishna, and here, please, please be our friend.Radha Krishna bolo, Sange Cholo, ei matra bhikha chai. Our bhikha is only asking people, 'Why don't you just come and chant Hare Krishna with us?' Because you can't have any more fun than we're having in the Krishna conscious movement. It's impossible, because this is the spiritual world. It's just flat-out fun to be with devotees, to chant Hare Krishna, to read Bhagavad Gita. This is the real life. Everything else is a wanna-be life, and it just isn't working. So Krishna again and again gives opportunity, and his touch is very personal. It's one point I'd like to make today: everything's personal. And I'm charmed, frankly charmed, when I read in the Second Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam, 'kare spṛśan,' which means that Krishna shook Brahma's hand and he said, 'Bhadram te -Good luck, Brahma.' "See, that feels good. Everyone wants to do that. If we go in sankirtan, if you're on a road with busy traffic and you see somebody on the other side of the street and you go like this (shows a fist bump), they'll cross traffic, risking life and limb of being run over just to do this, because everyone's missing that. They don't have the personal touch. They want somebody to reach out to them and say, 'Oh, please, touch my soul. Touch my heart.' They can't get it in the material world because everyone's busy with themselves, being frustrated again and again in the love that's professed here. Maybe there's a glimmer, but we can't hold it. People are looking for that deep, loving exchange with Suhrit, their old friend, Krishna. So when Krishna starts the Sampradaya, he puts his good will into it. He speaks to Brahma; he shakes Brahma's hand. He tells him, 'Good luck with making this creation and also passing down the knowledge so that people can take it,' and it's an unbroken line of discipline succession. There are detours, but it's an eternal message that comes down, and Srila Vyasadeva helps to put it into order so that we can take advantage of it and distribute it to others. So we have a lifetime—or many lifetimes—of service, it's an eternal service to enter into that. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------

GOD: An Autobiography, As Told to a Philosopher - The Podcast, S1
Questions? Comments? Text Us!In this wide-ranging conversation, Jerry and Abigail pick up where last week's episode left off, turning from the idea of swadharma — one's unique calling — to how that calling actually plays out in a real life.Jerry reflects on the Bhagavad Gita's teaching that it is better to follow your own duty, even imperfectly, than to live someone else's well. Abigail shares what it feels like when a fight “has her name on it,” telling the story of the battle to save Brooklyn College's core curriculum and how that reluctant fight brought Jerry into her life. They discuss the courage it takes to give up security for meaning, Jerry's choice to twice walk away from tenure, and the role prayer plays in guiding his decisions. Abigail recalls a formative past-life memory of her death in 1930s Germany and how it shaped her lifelong commitment to confronting evil, writing about the nature of evil, and standing up against antisemitism. The conversation turns to the “summons of love,” romance as co-constitutive with divine calling, and the serious work of keeping the romantic quest alive over a lifetime. Abigail explores the challenges of being a woman philosopher, the tension between femininity and academic culture, the dangers of free love, and the need for modesty and discernment.Together they hold love, moral courage, and spiritual purpose in dialogue, seeking a way to live fully in history — with God as partner.Other Series:The podcast began with the Dramatic Adaptation of the book and now has several series:The Life Wisdom Project – Spiritual insights on living a wiser, more meaningful life. From God to Jerry to You – Divine messages and breakthroughs for seekers. Two Philosophers Wrestle With God – A dialogue on God, truth, and reason.Jerry & Abigail: An Intimate Dialogue – Love, faith, and divine presence in partnership. What's Your Spiritual Story – Real stories of people changed by encounters with God.What's On Our Mind – Reflections from Jerry and Scott on recent episodes. What's On Your Mind – Listener questions, divine answers, and open dialogue. You can add this to your portfolio. "I was there. I chanted Hare Kṛṣṇa. I got up early, I dropped what I was doing, and I sat and chanted with the devotees, gave full attention to The Holy Name." This some people don't achieve after millions and millions of lifetimes, but all of you have this conviction: 'Vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti,' Vasudev is everything. You also have śraddhā, which means, "śraddhā-śabde-viśvāsa sudṛḍha niścaya, kṛṣṇe bhakti kaile sarva-karma kṛta haya" (CC Madhya 22.62). That if I chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and I give my full attention to the holy name, then everything else will be perfectly executed in my life. Nothing else is needed. "Vedeṣu yajñeṣu tapaḥsu caiva, dāneṣu yat puṇya-phalaṁ pradiṣṭam, atyeti tat sarvam idaṁ viditvā, yogī paraṁ sthānam upaiti cādyam" (BG 8.28). That is Kṛṣṇa, who assures us at the end of the eighth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, that if you just give yourself to Kṛṣṇa and the process of devotional service, you achieve the results of everything else you're trying to achieve in your life. This is why you're here. This is very deep. So this is no small accomplishment to be able to sit and chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. Most people can't do it. The mind is raging, there's problems to solve. "I feel depressed, I feel attracted to something else." But the fact that you show up means that you have evolved spiritually over many, many lifetimes to come to this position. So take advantage of it, that you know this, and that you know that all the Vedas are pointing to one thing—the holy name. And that is by taking part every day in chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. Finishing 16 rounds, you're following the instructions of the Ācārya, which means you're safe. So stay safe. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
