Dr. Owen Strachan explores the profound concept of the “Image of God” in this session. He emphasizes the intrinsic worth and dignity of every human being, as each person reflects God's glory. Strachan calls on believers to affirm this truth and to advocate for it in a culture that often devalues human life. The “Image of God” is a theological doctrine and a foundation for understanding humanity's purpose and worth. ★ Support this podcast ★
Questions from the Q&A during this session include the following: Do you have any church recommendations in Tuscon? How far away is Mark Driscoll from you, and how much influence does he have in your area? Could you explain briefly what the "Apostololic Word" is? Do you see any decline in the Prosperity Gospel's influence at all? Has your uncle's ministry declined because he's getting older, or because a new generation has come in and doing newer, more modern things? What kind of money comes into a crusade when you were working with your uncle? In terms of money that comes in, is it large donations by celebrities or high-profile individuals, or smaller donations by the average person? As a cessationist, how do you support a phrase like "Clear-thinking charismatic?" How does one not negate the other? Is there any correlation fo the prosperity gospel movement and the correlation between the Jewish nation and the structure of giving financially to support the priesthood? Is the YouVersion Bible App bad? Luke 18:42 - Does faith heal? Can you talk about the "Baptism of the Holy Spirit?" Why do Pentecostals talk about this? Mark 9:38-41 - is a common argument against calling out false teachers. What do you say? In your opinion, is it ok to stay in a church if a handful of people within the church are hyper-charismatic? How might I approach communicating with friends who have left the truth behind and gone to Bethel School of Ministry? What did the process of grief look like when you were dealing with the loss of community with your family and loved ones? How do you personally teach rightly about "conviction" and "illumination" while at the same time rejecting "God told me." Do you think most of these prosperity preachers genuinely believe what they preach, or are they doing it just for the money? Have you seen any fabricated healings at any of these events? In all your time in that movement, did you ever see any legitimate healings or miracles? What other "faith teachers" have you met? Do you know of anybody else that is like you that has come out of that movement and is now saved and sound in doctrine? ★ Support this podcast ★
Three particular truths, the gospel is powerful, the gospel is propitiation, and the gospel is proclaimed. The Gospel is powerful - It should be trusted to do its job. (Eph. 2:10) The Gospel is propitiation - Christ brought reconciliation and paid the penalty for your sin. (Rom.3:23-25; 2Cor.5:21) The Gospel is proclaimed - The gospel must be shared which is why we are here on this earth. (Acts 16:25) ★ Support this podcast ★

Questions from the Q&A during this session include the following: Would you say that you were saved at your study desk reading John 5, or at another point in your life? Did you have a fake conversion experience when you were younger? As a Hinn, did you have exposure to non-prosperity gospel preaching from MacArthur, Begg, Sprout, etc? How close are you to your Uncle Benny and your parents? Have your family members read any of your books? The God, Greed, and the Prosperity Gospel book, have you had any conversation with your parents about that? Do your dad and your Uncle Benny still talk? How many siblings do you have? And have you had any conversations with them? How much speaking and preaching do you do outside of your church? How many children do you have and their ages? Homeschool? Christian School? Does one of your children have an illness? Have you had discussions with your parents from a theological standpoint regarding the healing of your son? What are your hobbies and non-ministry interests? After John MacArthur's John 1-11 Commentary and Chuck Swindoll's The Church Awakening, what are the 5 books that have radically shaped your life/theology? Have you ever gone back and reconnected with your baseball coach? You mentioned praying for celebrities and athletes during your family vacations. Who are some of them? How did your immediate family become rich? Was it because of your Uncle Benny's ministry or from your dad's ministry? In your book, you talked about your Uncle George dying of cancer. Was there a similar theological crisis for him not being healed? After you came out of the prosperity gospel movement how long did it take you to get over the fear of speaking against your uncle Benny in the sense that it would cause a curse over you or your family? ★ Support this podcast ★

In Galatians, Paul models one excellent way to counter false teaching, whether legalism or Charismaticism: frontal, critical, hammer, and tongs. Paul unmasks the Judaizers as contrary to the Bible in general and the Gospel in particular. Elsewhere, however, the apostle deploys a different weapon from his arsenal. In order to understand any theological movement, it helps to have at least a working knowledge of the origins of the movement. In this session, we will look at some of the main movers and shakers of the Pentecostal movement. We will look at the people, both men and women, who the charismatics claim are their heroes or “God's Generals” as they call them. A brief overview and history of Charles Spurgeon's childhood. A six-year-old Charles confronts a church member of his grandfather's church at a local bar; Spurgeon's grandfather's funeral; memorizing hymns; Charles' upbringing by his father's sister, his Aunt Anne, and more. Questions from this session include: How did you meet your wife? How many kids/grandkids? What do they do? Do they all live near you? How did the Lord save you? What is your testimony? What was your post-High School education? How did you come to meet John MacArthur and end up at Grace Community Church? What is your ministry at Grace? What is your ministry at Grace to You? Where do you find time to teach and be an elder? Was Grace to You already a ministry when you arrived at GCC? Spurgeon was committed to the doctrines of grace (Calvinism). When did you come to those convictions yourself? Was Grace Community Church always known for its commitment to those doctrines? How influential were you in shaping GCC in that area? Has there been growth and development in that theology since you have been there? Of all the elders at Grace, you are probably the most well-known outside John MacArthur. How many other elders are there? Your online presence is quite ubiquitous (Twitter, Facebook, Pyromaniacs Blot, Phil's Bookmarks, Spurgeon Archive). When John is attacked, you seem to be the one who steps to line to defend him? How do you get tasked with that? Why is that so often the case? What are your hobbies outside of Grace to You and Grace Community Church? What do you do to relax? What is your ideal vacation – money no object? Tell me something true about yourself that most people who only know you from a distance (online) would find surprising. Do you have any plans to write a book of your own? What does the retirement plan of John MacArthur and Phil Johnson look like? How do you get saddled with the most controversial topics at Shepherd's Conference. What happened to Too Wretched for Radio? Were you and Jason Duchow separated at birth? Recommended Resources: Spurgeon v. Spurgeon's conversion as a teenager. Spurgeon's recollection of utter depravity prior to his conversion. The influence of his parents and grandparents which ultimately led to his conversion. More on the conversion of Charles Spurgeon as a teenager. The preaching style of Charles Spurgeon. Spurgeon's near-photographic memory. Questions from this session include: For someone wanting to read a biography of Charles Spurgeon, what would you recommend? Can you recommend your three best books on Spurgeon? So many prominent Christian leaders end their lives surrounded by scandal. Either sexual compromise or doctrinal compromise. Many have fallen even within our own lifetime. You work with a man who has been faithful and uncompromising through more than 50 years of pastoral ministry. Q: Was Spurgeon or his ministry ever accused of sexual or financial impropriety? What kinds of accusations, if any, were raised against Spurgeon? Q: How has John MacArthur protected himself against similar temptations and or failure? Spurgeon's productivity is legendary. Describe a typical week for Charles Spurgeon. What motivates a person to that kind of service? The ministry of Grace to You has been similarly productive. It could be argued that there hasn't been a greater force for the propagation of Biblical teaching in the history of the church. What motivates you and John MacArthur and your colleagues to this level of productivity for the kingdom? Obviously, Phil Johnson and Charles Spurgeon would not agree on every point and nuance of theology. If Spurgeon were alive today and you could sit down to persuade him to change his mind on the biggest issue where you would disagree, what would that issue be? How would you present your argument? If you could live in the 1800s and serve alongside Spurgeon as you have for John MacArthur, what counsel would you give him that would: - improve his preaching? - improve his effectiveness? - prolong his life? - protect him? From the Audience: Bonus Questions: What are the historical roots of egalitarianism in the church? Does this connect back to a particular ancient heresy or heretical group, or is it a modern invention? What is the woke movement in evangelicalism, and what does it have to do with the gospel? Recently GCC has been in the headlines because you are gathering to worship in defiance of state restrictions. This seems to have brought about a bit of nuance in GCC stance on civil disobedience. I heard Mike Riccardi reference some of the teachings of the reformers on the doctrine of the lesser magistrate and defying tyrants. Did the view among some of the elders change over this issue?
