Risa Arin doesn't just talk about health literacy. She built the damn platform. As founder and CEO of XpertPatient.com (yes, expert with no E), Risa's taking a wrecking ball to how cancer education is delivered. A Cornell alum, cancer caregiver, and ex-agency insider who once sold Doritos to teens, she now applies that same marketing muscle to helping patients actually understand the garbage fire that is our healthcare system. We talk about why she left the “complacent social safety” of agency life, how her mom unknowingly used her own site during treatment, what it's like to pitch cancer education after someone pitches warm cookies, and why healthcare should come with a map, a translator, and a refund policy. Risa brings data, chutzpah, and Murphy Brown energy to the conversation—and you'll leave smarter, angrier, and maybe even a little more hopeful.RELATED LINKS• XpertPatient.com• Risa Arin on LinkedIn• XpertPatient & Antidote Partnership• XpertPatient Featured on KTLA• 2024 Health Award BioFEEDBACKLike this episode? What if the best leaders of the future aren’t the ones with all the answers — but the ones who ask better questions? In this episode of our Future Fit Spotlight series, trusted advisor and business strategist Michelle Broadbent reflects on the leadership qualities we’ll need most in the decade ahead: adaptability, empathy, and a clear, distraction-proof strategy. Michelle shares why we must shift from being the “expert in the room” to the enabler of others, and why redefining success — away from hustle and towards purpose — is not just a trend, but a necessity.

There's a big difference between asking, “How can I change this?” and asking, “What am I meant to learn from this?” In this episode, Raghunath and Kaustubha explore how asking bigger, zoomed-out questions can unlock real transformation—and how Krishna's pastimes, far from being mere spiritual folklore, offer the deepest answers to the soul's most urgent needs. They discuss how these pastimes are meant to be approached not just through a religious lens, but through an ontological, metaphysical, and Vedantic one—and that's when their true power is revealed. Key Highlights: • How shallow questions keep us stuck, and zoomed-out questions can set us free • Why good questions aren't always comfortable—but they crack things open • How to identify life's summum bonum—and reorient everything around it • Seeing Krishna's life through a metaphysical lens—not just a religious one • The danger of a life built on speed and comfort, but no direction SB 10.1.1-8 ********************************************************************* LOVE THE PODCAST? This episode comes straight from the heart. No filters—just real conversation about what it means to show up. We talk about the power of giving without expecting anything in return… and the humbling experience of learning how to receive. We explore purpose, faith, taking bold steps into the unknown, and the kind of seeds we all plant with the way we treat people. If you've ever wrestled with what it looks like to bet on yourself, live with intention, or stay open to life's curveballs, this one's for you....Five takeaways from this episode: Giving is Easy. Receiving Takes Work. Most high-achievers are natural givers—but learning to receive with humility and openness is just as important. You can't pour into others forever without being willing to let others pour into you.Purpose Leads the Way.Making bold moves—especially when the future is unclear—gets a whole lot easier when you're anchored in your core values and purpose. Purpose doesn't always come with a map, but it gives you the courage to keep moving forward. Stay Curious and Ask Better Questions.Curiosity is a superpower. Whether you're connecting with others, leading a team, or just navigating daily life, asking great questions opens doors to deeper relationships and unexpected opportunities. Abundance is a Mindset.Living from a place of abundance—not fear or scarcity—makes it easier to make tough decisions, try new things, and keep your eyes open for the good around you. What you focus on, you find.Bring Your Glove.Be ready for connection. Be ready to give. Be ready to receive. Life is like a game of catch—those who come prepared, stay engaged, and remain open to the tosses and returns are the ones who grow.... One truthThe way you consistently show up for others will determine who shows up for you when it matters most. That's the harvest. Keep planting.

Asking questions is a powerful way to build trust, exchange ideas, and unlock value in organizations. And it is a skill that can be honed to make work conversations more productive, say Leslie K. John and Alison Wood Brooks, professors at Harvard Business School. In this classic episode, they join former host Sarah Green Carmichael to talk through insights from behavioral science research. They share techniques to adjust the frame, tone, and type of questions to improve results—whether you're looking to get information, find solutions, or just get someone to like you. Brooks and John wrote the article “The Surprising Power of Questions” in the May–June 2018 issue of Harvard Business Review.
David Marquet: Leadership is Language David Marquet is the former commander of the U.S.S. Santa Fe, a nuclear-powered attack submarine. Under David's command, the ship had an impressive turnaround, achieving the highest retention and operational standings in the Navy. David is the author of the bestseller Turn the Ship Around: A True Story of Turning Followers Into Leaders* and his newer book, Leadership is Language: The Hidden Power of What You Say and What You Don't*. In this rebroadcast, David and I explored the seven sins of questioning. David shared the story of the ill-fated El Faro and how we can discover better information in leadership by making the shift from self-affirming to self-educating. Seven Ways to Ask Better Questions Instead of questions stacking, try one and done. Instead of a teaching moment, try and learning moment. Instead of a dirty question, try a clear question. Instead of a binary question, start the question with “what” or “how.” Instead of a “why” question, try “tell me more.” Instead of a self-affirming question, try self-educating questions. Instead of jumping to the future, start with the present, past, then future. His experience spans 25+ years in business and education, as a management consultant to top corporations, a learning facilitator for leaders, and as Chief Learning Officer at Teach For America. He is a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network and is an Edmund Hillary Fellow. Jeff is the author of Ask: Tap Into the Hidden Wisdom of People Around You for Unexpected Breakthroughs in Leadership and Life*. Leaders are not the only people who need to have difficult conversations in the workplace. Yet, leaders set the tone for how much people are willing and able to talk about hard things. In this episode, Jeff and I discuss how leaders can make it easier for those important conversations to happen. Key Points In one study of managers, most people admitted to remaining silent with their bosses and nearly 75% said colleagues also felt uncomfortable speaking up. Meet people on their own turf. Others are more likely to speak up if they are in a setting that's more comfortable for them. Leaders should consider shifting timing and/or medium to one that's of the preference for the person who doesn't have power. Explain why you're asking about a topic and your intention for a conversation at the start. Providing context prevents people from having to guess at your agenda. Set a mutual agenda for a conversation by asking a question like, “In addition to this, what else should be part of our conversation today?” Establish a tone for open communicating by radiating resilience. Words like these might help: “If I were in your shoes, I might be feeling frustrated or even resentful. If that's how you're feeling, I would understand completely. Please don't hold back.” Resources Mentioned Ask: Tap Into the Hidden Wisdom of People Around You for Unexpected Breakthroughs in Leadership and Life* by Jeff Wetzler Interview Notes Download my interview notes in PDF format (free membership required).
