The Rock Church - Weekend Messages w/ Pastor Miles McPherson (Audio)
In Part four of this series, Pastor Miles explained "The Gospel Text". He presented the gospel through the "R" framework: created for Relationship with God, our Rebellion led to Ruin. Christ came as the perfect Role model, paid our Ransom through his death, and proved eternal life through his Resurrection—fulfilling God's plan for our redemption.
Today the guys are discussing a significant few verses of the Bible. Tune in as they discuss why Paul is eager to preach the Gospel. These verses are the very verses that helped ignite the Protestant Reformation. Conformed to Christ aims to engage the mind, affect the heart, and call people to follow Christ. Additionally, our aim is to introduce and explain passages of Scripture and difficult theological doctrines in a down-to-earth and easy-to-grasp manner. Theology and the Bible should impact your life, and our goal is that we might play a small part in seeing that happen. Conformed to Christ is a ministry of Christ's Fellowship Church. https://cfclawton.org/ ***Be sure to subscribe on YouTube, iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Podbean, and Amazon Music Youtube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCgQBeT-Mj1CmngPdhZyWybQ iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/conformed-to-christ/id1503247486 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkLnBvZGJlYW4uY29tL2NvbmZvcm1lZHRvY2hyaXN0L2ZlZWQueG1s Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5YruCZu4hla6Ll3rBu7UPY Podbean: https://conformedtochrist.podbean.com

This is a sample episode.
Pastor Chad preaches on the Gospel Text for the week which is hard to read as Good News. While it isn't good news it is an honest look at the way humanities pursuit of power is counter to the vision of God for community. John the Baptist was beheaded as a demonstration of power to avoid looking weak. The honesty of the story does point to Good News: in Jesus there is hope for those without power or prestige. In one of the only stories in Mark's Gospel where Jesus does not appear, (only tales of his work healing and teaching) we see a vision of our world without Jesus, a world where those with prestige destroy lives of their neighbor in order to maintain power at all costs.
The Greatest Text in all the Bible is John 3-16 Twenty five words says it all-
On this Fourth Sunday in Advent Pastor Chad preaches on the Gospel Text. Sometimes called the Magnificat it tells of Mary’s encounter with the angel announcing she would give birth to the Messiah. Mary is called blessed, but what does that really mean? Have we given “blessed” a simpler definition than intended by Luke?
Pastor Peter preaches on the text from Revelation and the Gospel Text for the day. Those who are grieving can choose anger & retribution or they can choose to keep an eye on eternity. When Jesus speaks the beatitudes it is those with an eye on eternity who find blessing.
Biblical Text: Matthew 11:11-19 This was our reformation celebration. I love preaching on what is the alternate Gospel Text for the day. It offers for me an image of both the law and the gospel in John the Baptist and Jesus. We all have compressed images of truth. The sermon looks at some of our … Continue reading Does the Image Still Bear Truth?
Pastor Chad preaches on the Gospel Text for the Third Sunday in Lent. Jesus encounters a Samaritan woman at Jacob's Well. The encounter crosses all sorts of social barriers and in doing so changes everything about our relationship to God.
Pastor Peter preaches on the Gospel Text for the First Sunday of Advent. In today's busy world we aren't always fully present in our faith life. Pastor Peter issued an Advent Challenge to help us be more engaged in connecting to God on a daily basis. The Advent Challenge has 3 parts: Show Up, Speak Up, Listen Up. Show Up: commit to set aside 10 minutes away from all the distractions of life. Speak Up: confide in God as honestly as possible how the day has gone so far, share your hopes for the future, and ask for guidance. Listen Up: chose a Bible verse that brings you hope, read or recite it several times slowly, and then listen for God. “Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41 “You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with glad cries of deliverance. 8 I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 32 “Be still, and know that I am God!” Psalm 46 “Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phillippians 4 "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Mathew 11 “If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.” Psalm 51 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3
Pastor Dee preaches on the Gospel Text for the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost. The Pharisees complain that Jesus is eating with sinners and then Jesus tells them two stories of searching for one lost item. The ridiculous idea that a shepherd would leave his flock behind to search for one lost lamb reveals the length to which God will go to return one lost person into community.
Guest preacher Rev. Chuck Henneman preaches on the Gospel Text for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost. Jesus "breaks the rules" in order to offer freedom to a beloved child of God.
Pastor Dee Pederson preaches on the Gospel Text for the Seventh Sunday in Pentecost. The disciples ask Jesus: "Lord, teach us to pray." What does the example Jesus provide shape our conversations with God in the Lord's Prayer and in all our prayers.
Pastor Chad Peterson preaches on the Gospel Text for the Fourth Sunday of Pentecost. Jesus sends 70 disciples out ahead of him to proclaim that the Kingdom of God has come near. They are sent out without any supplies that would allow them to experience the Kingdom of God in receiving the gifts of hospitality so that they might share the gifts of God's grace more freely.
Pastor Chad preaches on the Gospel Text for the Second Sunday after Pentecost. The names we use in the stories we tell are important. Jesus reminds us that the names we give each other and ourselves do not define us in the eyes of God.

Drawing on the Gospel Text of Luke Chapter 11 verses 32-44, Ian Mobsby explores the spiritual significance of the raising of Lazarus. On this Sunday, All Saints Day, the Church traditionally explores the theological concept of the ‘Communion of the Saints’ that exists outside time. Further Ian explores three applications of the implications of the story of raising of Lazarus. This St Luke's Podcast was recorded on All Saints Day 2015.
